CHAPTER 57

Routine operations. Everyone acted accordingly as Sam planned the drinks in the dining room, Tom planned the side dishes, Jake oversaw the turkey deliveries, and Lelandi, Carol, and Silva completed the pie making. Lelandi’s stomach grumbled as the aroma of roasted turkey and gravy filled the air, but she didn’t believe she would be able to eat because she was so tense.

The table was in an alcove in the kitchen, and Carol gazed out the window. Snow continues to fall. The ski season in Silver Town will be the finest in the past five years.

Lelandi was given a suspicious glance by Silva, but despite seeing it, she chose not to respond. Everyone was smiling politely, and there was no discussion of the purpose for the feast—only the weather, a hunt, and some whispered rumors about Sam and Silva. Lelandi was certain that those discussions had already taken place in private.

Lelandi was greeted with a smile by Darien as he entered the kitchen and raised his arms above his head.
