She was the one, wasn’t she? Larissa had lied about the dreams and the names were transposed, damn it.

Jake broke the trance with, “Ahem.”

As her lips parted to speak, she had a delectable, innocent, and charming appearance. “I smelled the meal and decided that I would feel more energized if I ate something.”

Tom moved quickly to lead her to his side of the table. Jake brought her a dish and overflowed it with sausages and eggs. Darien fixed his gaze on her frizzy, glossy hair. He tried his best to suppress his affections for the woman, but he was powerless to do so. He shuffled uneasily beneath the table and was already as solid as a rock.

Tom seated Lelandi in the seat he had previously moved for her before returning with the coffeepot and a mug. “Black?”

She said, “Milk and sugar,” in such a subdued tone that Darien got the impression that something wasn’t quite right inside that gorgeous head of hers.

“I’d want to visit the fair.”

Darien sat back hard into his chair, not anticipat
