After several somersaults down the cliff into the woods, their vehicle finally came to a halt when it collided with a tree trunk in the forest. Their vehicle now laid upside down in the middle of nowhere, the four wheels still rotating around the axles as the engines went ablaze.
No one was conscious after the crash, but coincidentally a young boy happened to be close by. His name was Henry, the youngest member of the Carter werewolf family. Once he noticed the accident, he went over to offer some help but it was too late for Nicole’s parents, they had already succumbed to their injuries.
Henry could hear Nicole’s heart beat faintly, she was in the rear seats still stuck to her seat belts. He was able to yank her out of the burning vehicle, Nicole was on the brink of death and that left Henry with no other choice. Without any hesitation, he slashed his palms with his claws and poured a few drops into her mouth.
He was careful not to give her so much of his blood because it could be toxic to a human. Henry had no other way of ensuring her survival without turning her into a werewolf. Henry had to find a place to keep her for the time being while she recovered.
He took her to his family’s cabin quite a distance away, carrying her on his back. Henry made sure that none of his family members had an idea about her, he secretly brought her meals.
“Hey Henry, are you okay?” Henry’s mom, Agatha, asked him. She noticed that his eating habits had changed a lot plus he was eating twice as much as he used to earlier.
“I am,” he uttered
“I have never felt better,” he added, as he wore a fake smile on his face.
“I just need to be sure that you are not going through any phase alone, we are here for you,” she told him. Agatha imagined that he was going through depression since he had been spending most of his time in the cabin, for some weeks now.
“I know all that mum, but as I said I am fine,” he told her, trying to convince her.
“I guess I would have to take your word for it,” Agatha replied to him.
It had been two whole days and the mystery girl he saved was still recovering, she had not woken up. He could only feed her with liquid food since she could not chew. That morning, he returned to the cabin to find out that Nicole was not present.
He began to panic, because he thought that perhaps his mom found out what he was hiding and he felt it was the reason behind the sudden show of care earlier.
Henry walked a few meters from the cabin in search of the mystery girl and he was relieved to find her.
“what are you doing here?” he questioned her. She looked confused and tired, she obviously had no idea where she was going to.
“who are you?” she asked him, “where am I?” Nicole added. She glanced around in different directions, as she placed her palms on her face trying to feel her own body.
Her body was readjusting after she regained consciousness, her senses seemed strangely elevated. She slowly walked up to a puddle of water close by and just as she took a glance to see the reflection of herself, her legs trembled and she fell. Henry was able to grip her just before she hit the ground.
Henry escorted her back to the cabin, holding her hands across his shoulders to help her walk through the stumpy woods. He was actually happy to see her awake, but his fear was that she would want to know the whereabouts of her parents.
“what is your name?” Henry asked her out of curiosity.
After a pause, she uttered “My name is..., Nicole,” she sounded quite uncertain.
“are you sure?” Henry probed.
“yes, I think so,” Nicole replied to him.
“So, what are you doing around here?” he inquired, Henry wanted to know how much she remembered.
“I...,” she paused for a while, “Do not know,” Nicole said to Henry, she gazed at him completely confused.
Henry did not want to break the news to her about the accident and her parents, he felt that it would be too much for her since she was just recovering. Later that day Henry decided to return to the crash site, he wanted to clear the wreckage and bury the bodies of Nicole’s parents.
He could not find the crash site anymore when he returned, at first he thought that it was just him unable to remember the location of the crash. Soon Henry realized that someone else was already there and they did not leave any trace of an accident behind. Down to the trees and the grasses that had been destroyed were completely replaced with props.
Henry began to think that there was more to the accident, it did not in anyway random.
“where have you been?” Nicole asked Henry as he returned.
“I went for a walk in the woods,” he replied, for some reason he did not also want her to find out about his family.
“why do I feel so blank, like I’m meant to know something but nothing adds up,” she questioned.
“I have no idea but there is nothing to worry about, you’ll be fine,” Henry assured her.
Once Peter realized that the tracker placed on Nicole had stopped transmitting, he sent some of his men to see what happened. Nicole had enrolled into the University of Denver just few months before the incident happened. After she was gifted an iPhone, a present no one would refuse.
When Peter’s men arrived at the crash site some hours later, they saw the crash but could not find Nicole. Peter was more bothered about the wreckage rather than the young girl, and he needed to cover up the accident.
Peter was not directly involved in the crash but if there were any investigations, it could lead to him and other incriminating information would eventually be discovered.
The clouds had darkened and thunder rumbled. The trees rustled, the sky dusked and the shadows grew long. “Is it about to rain?” Nicole asked Henry, who was just standing by the window glaring into the woods. “I think so,” he replied to her. “Oh! I do not like rains though, I might catch a cold,” she told Henry, “maybe some of your warmth could help,” Nicole suggested to him, she wanted a curdle from him. Henry paused for a while, he pretended as if he could not hear a word she said before he suggested, “I could get you a blanket or something,” “that would be suitable, I guess.” She told him. “I would be back, please do not go anywhere,” he begged of her. “I will not, but why can you leave and I can not?” she asked him, as she fixed her confused look upon him. “it is not quite safe for you to be out alone in this treacherous forests,” he explained to her, “moreover, you are still recovering from your injuries,” he said. “I definitely
Nicole was just woken up by the crow of a hen, it had become quite a normal. Stretching and yawning, she turned to her side but Henry was not there even if he was with her late the previous night. She had never really wondered what he always went to do deep in the woods, Henry never told her about his family, probably because she never asked. Henry did his best to avoid any suspicions that about the stranger he harboured in his family’s cabin, he was scared that if his family members would freak out if they found out that there was a human in their cabin. As werewolves they were very particular about him getting too close to humans, to avoid anyone from knowing the truth about him. As Nicole got out of bed, she decided to take a short walk inside the woods. Even though Henry warned her against leaving the cabin, her curiosity would not let her stay back. Just a few meters and she began feeling a bit weak and dizzy, she initially ignored it but soon her legs could barely su
“Hmm, so what could this mysterious thing that you want me to see be?” Nicole questioned him. “You will know,” he replied to her, deep down Henry was conflicted about telling her the truth. “We would take a walk into the woods, it is probably going to be our first walk since you recovered,” he told her. Once he uttered the word ‘recovered’ it seemed to have triggered some sort of memory loop in her mind. Another set of memories flashed through her head, this time it seemed to be the last moments just before an accident. She froze in her tracks for a while, unable to speak or move. “are you alright?” Henry asked her, it seemed like Nicole had blanked out yet she was still awake but she made no reply to him. “what is wrong?” he asked again in a more worried tone, this time he grabbed her by the shoulders and tried getting her attention. She snapped out from what seemed to be a trance, her memories were returning and they were returning fast. “what the hell was t
Just a moment ago, Henry and Nicole seemed to be having a good time and all of a it was a race to prevent Nicole from going to the bottom of the river. Fortunately, Henry acted very fast. Without hesitation, he immediately dove into the river and reached out to Nicole. Her black out episodes were getting increasingly frequent and persistent, initially she would experience flashes of her memories but now she was blacking out for minutes. It scared him and Henry blamed himself, since he thought that it was the werewolf blood he had introduced into Nicole's body. Once he brought her to the shore, he began applying some pressure to her chest trying his best to resuscitate her but she was not responding. He panicked when he realized that his efforts to enable her regain consciousness was not working. Even if she had the blood of a wolf, she had never turned so Nicole was still a mere mortal human. “achoo!” Nicole sneezed as she opened her eyes slightly, “Henry, what hap
Just as Nicole was trying avoid waking Henry up, she unknowingly nudged him a little bit waking him up. Twisting and turning, Henry woke up. His eyes struggling to remain steady as he tried holding them open, “Good morning,” Nicole uttered quietly, “I did not mean to wake you up,” she added, feeling quite remorseful for breaking his beauty sleep. “Oh please, it is fine. Moreover I seem to have overslept a bit,” he replied to Nicole. “Anyway, I hope you had a good night sleep?” he inquired. “Of course dear, staying by your side always keeps me at peace,” she said to him, “You look handsome when you sleep,” she commented. “really? You are even more attractive regardless of the situation,” he replied, “Wait a minute!” Henry exclaimed as he began turning his head around like he was in search of something. “what is it?” Nicole asked Henry, she was confused with the sudden mood change. “Do you know what the time is?” he asked, “I think I am already late fo
Henry had not yet gotten a license yet, but that was the only option if they were going to make it in time."hop in, will you?" Henry asked, gesturing at the front seat.Nicole nodded and slid into t.he passenger seat of Henry's car. He hadn't really been expecting much from him when Adam first The seats were covered with a couple of books, that she tossed behind. She sat crisscrossed on one, watching him buckle his seatbelt and turn on the engine. He smiled, then started the car, shifting gears and taking off down the street. It'd be a long drive, but the sooner they got there the better. They wouldn't have time for the usual small talk between friends.Nicole watched him carefully while he drove, until they were on the main road."I just hope we don't meet the cops on our way," Henry uttered, glancing over. He turned towards Nicole briefly, giving her a quick smile.Nicole returned the gesture and looked down at the book she was holding. It wasn't something important or particular
When she finally managed to regain consciousness the next day, her memories had fully been regained. The first thing that occurred to her was the fact that everything hurt. Everything throbbed in pain. She tried to move but it all felt wrong. When she attempted to turn over, a wave of nausea overtook her and she felt something wet dripping down her chin. That's when her eyes snapped open, staring at nothing. Her head felt like someone had jammed cotton balls inside it, and she could barely move. Where am I? As if summoned by her thoughts, there was a soft, familiar voice speaking. She strained her ears, trying to catch what was being said. “Hey, Nicole. How are you feeling?” Who… She tried to speak, but found that her mouth felt incredibly dry. The sound only came out as a croak. Her throat was burning. As she opened her mouth again, however, another unfamiliar voice spoke up. “Don't strain yourself just yet, Nicole." Henry said to her, "you blacked out since yesterday, I've ne
After a long time, Nicole was finally ready to go back to her previous life to search for the answers she needed. Henry was quite supportive, they both had already planned the journey but Henry could not possibly leave his family just like that only to follow Nicole in her endeavours. He didn't open up to Nicole about him being part of it, he just supported everything she did and helped her make plans. When the day came around for them to set off on their travels, Nicole felt uneasy and she didn't know why. She felt scared as well but she wanted to do this. She needed to do it, even if she would never admit it out loud. She knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, that her mind may try to convince her otherwise. She was even more agitated once Henry explained to her why he could not actually join in her journey, she was sad and a bit angry since he was just telling her after all these while."why did you make me think you would come?" She said looking down at the ground, tears begin
“Jason, is that you or am I just seeing things?” she uttered breaking the silence that had ensued when she saw him.Without even saying a word he immediately stepped forward and gave her a hug, just then tears built up within her eye lids and began to roll down her cheeks. It was such an emotional moment that even Nicole could not help but tear up, shortly after that Nicole walked into the apartment leaving the couple, they stayed there for sometime.“when did you even return? I thought that you said you would be back in a months time, so how come you changed your mind, I hope everything is okay.” Josephine said to him, she was still comfortable in his embrace as his arms wrapped around Josephine like a father holding his baby.Jason was a hunk of a man, a little above 6 feet tall but Josephine was quite petit.“everything is fine dear, I just wanted to surprise you. Honestly all the while I told you that I would be returning in a months time, it was all in the bid to do this and it w
Josephine boyfriend had been on a business trip for a few months now and he was finally about to return back to Denver to catch up with her. It was going to be a surprise visit and even though they talked every now and then since he embarked on the trip, Jason never wanted to tell her about his return. He made it seem like he would not be back until the next month, that way she was anticipating to meet him in a few weeks time.He had already planned everything, and arrived the previous night. Jason went quite early the next morning to her apartment, but by the time he arrived she had already left for campus and there was no one at home. Instead of returning to his hotel room, he hung around for several hours at a restaurant across the road. That way he would know when she returned, moreover he was able to predict when she was meant to return because they had discussed about her schedule a lot of times. It was a few minutes past 10 O’clock, he had about a few hours before Josephine wou
Once Henry was done with his assessment the next week, he set his distance from Cassidy again. It always baffled him why she was hell bent on getting him into her bed, there were so many other guys on campus that would not even resist one but yet she rather put up with his attitude. Any time he brought it up, she kept saying that she was in love with him but deep down Henry could see through her and could easily tell that she was just lying.Henry was not going to keep someone with such negative energy around him, he needed to be focused through out the duration of his time in college and women issues was something that would easily impede on his success. He had already made up with Nicole, but he was not quite confident in his test performance earlier since he had a bad preparation phase leading up to the assessment. Well that was his first and he made a promise to himself that he would be ready next time, Henry had to find a way to balance his romance and his studies. He knew that i
“I am no stalker, I just did what I thought was right and even if it was silly, I just wanted to feel compassion and love.” Cassidy told him. “I know that in a few days or weeks, you would get over this and we would be back to our normal talking.” She put it to him.“oh really, is that what you think? You know I was actually beginning to consider your words but this has probably showed me more of how you think and believe me it is not a good picture that has been painted in my head about you.” Henry uttered, he picked up his stuff and went over to another chair.Cassidy did not bother following him, although she was going to keep on trying her luck until she would eventually calm him down. She was going to keep on using his good will to her advantage, since he knew that within Henry was a great guy that found it easy to forgive. Well unknown to her, she was past forgiving with regards to her behavior earlier, Henry could not take the
Nicole jerked up from her sleep, and rolled a little bit then fell of the couch.“oww!”Nicole exclaimed, she had past the night in the living room. “what the fuck was that? Why am I on the floor?” Nicole mumbled to herself as she picked herself off the ground. She was a bit shocked as she tried to recollect herself, then Josephine stepped into the sitting room.“oh, there you are Nicole. I thought that you had already steeped out, since you said yesterday that you would be going to campus today.” Josephine said to her, “moreover, it is kind of weird that you slept on the ground when you have got the softest bed in the world.” Josephine said to Nicole, teasing her a bit as she approached her.“I would never sleep on the ground, I think I fell off the couch and that was exactly why I woke up.” Nicole pointed out to Josephine, “I had the weirdest dream ever, and it seemed to real and so sweet at firs
She was so nervous as she prepared for the day, it was the best day if her life but her heart was in her mouth. She was visiblyuneasy, yet happy but Josephine was there to save her from a heart attack because she had been panicking through out that day, all because of a ceremony. Josephine got Nicole dressed and made her up, as they laughed over a couple of experiences in the past between each other. They eventually got carried away with their conversation as they went down memory lanes, just then they realized that they were almost running late. They began to hurry up and get the finishing touches of Nicole’s appearance done, they hurried downstairs were her limo was supposed to wait for her but the chauffeur had not yet arrived there.“You said he was already at the apartment, but where is he?” Nicole asked Josephine, she was quite confused and impatient because she did not want Henry to feel like he had been stood up.“I have no idea, l
“you were really incredible today, you seemed like a superhero. You reminded me of how selfless your dad was, you are truly just like him aren’t you?” he commended her amazing efforts, the storm has died down well enough for them to began going back home.“thank you so much, I just could not let anything happen to those two back there and I felt I was the only one who could take such a risk.” She uttered to Jeremy, “I would not lie, I felt so good when I was being praised as a hero. The feeling was just out if this world and I would really love to experience more of that, you know, getting recognized as a hero buy an even more larger crowd bit I guess not all dreams could be actualized.” Nicole uttered to Jeremy, she was emotional at that point in time.“yea that would be nice for you, but I think we better get going fast because it seems like the weather is not just done yet,” Jeremy warned, it was still drizzling
Nicole and here my were still talking when the weather began to change and the thunders rumbled, it was quick and in just minutes the cumulonimbus clouds surface and began to block out the afternoon sun little by little until everywhere grew dark. It was obvious even to a blind man that the storm was bound to be intense, in Denver it was normal for there to be a massive set of storms just before the winter. Each sitting platform had a large umbrella-like roof, that was able to cover who ever was with in it. Apart from the fact that they were stuck in the park, both if them were fine where they were, although the storm was getting increasingly aggressive. Josephine was also there with her friend, but she kept her distance not wanting to get noticed by Jeremy.“oh boy… this storm does not feel like something that is about to end anytime soon, I guess we would just have to sit this one out and let nature do its thing.” Jeremy uttered to Nicole, trying t
Nicole and Josephine were at the Polo club park, by noon. Once they arrive the informed the stranger behind the phone call and they gave him the location of their meeting and the timing was in the next thirty minutes, it was quite sudden but that was the only way that they could ensure the best possible way of staying safe. Surprisingly he accepted the invitation, once the individual arrived at the Polo club park, Nicole and Josephine were notified of his presence. The two girls hid their presence the entire time until they were sure that it was Jeremy that had honored the meeting, that was when Nicole approached him on the table were she had told him that the meeting would hold. Nicole could not hide her joy when she saw Jeremy, she literally ran up to him and gave him the warmest hug ever.“I thought I would never set my eyes on you again, but I guess that I was wrong.” Nicole said to him, expressing her happiness. “the only thing that made me deny
