chapter one hundred and sixty one

Tyler's POV

As the maids serve the dishes, Olivia, as always, prefers to serve her own food, or rather, her own portion of greens. Who would have thought that picky little eater would become so strict about her diet?

"Did you arrest anyone today, Dad?" Louis asks.

"I arrested six guys," I respond.

"Wow, when I grow up, I want to be just like you."

"You should want to be yourself, Lou, not Daddy," Olivia interjects, her voice dripping with provocation.

Well, there goes our peaceful lunch. Still, amen.

"Dad, how did you decide what you wanted to be?" Lou asks.

"Relax, son, you have many years ahead to decide."

Silence consumes us for a few moments. It wasn't a good time to announce the engagement dinner, but if I didn't say it now, I might not have another chance.

"Tonight," I begin, "Angel and your uncles are coming over for dinner."

"What's the occasion?" Olivia immediately asks.

"It's a dinner to formalize our engagement."

She drops her utensils onto her plate with force.
