Chapter 2 dungeon

POV of Freya

Lupa mockingly said, "Yes, Luna, it's me," a smug smirk appearing on her face. She no longer resembled the innocent, pathetic girl who stared down at me at the banquet with hatred dancing in her eyes. Her hair had lost its lovely chestnut hue and had suddenly and mysteriously turned a bold shade of red.

Fuck! Was Lupa a witch in reality? The wine, crimson! She must have recently poisoned me with red wine.

Why are you doing that? What do you require of me? I questioned hesitantly as I made a valiant effort to speak with Chloe. I could not communicate with her, so obviously, the poison affected her as well. Despite how much I wouldn't say I liked it, there was nothing I could do. I was entirely in Lupa's hands.

"Pathetic, Luna. I bet you never thought that something like this would happen to you, did you?" Lupa grinned as she drew a dagger from a holster on her side and pointed it in my direction.

"Lupa, don't do this. Lobo would never forgive you if you killed me.

When Lupa laughed, she trembled with laughter and cocked her head back. "Oh, you two are too cute. Maybe you should have been Lobo's Luna instead of a comic. I am Lobo's fated mate, not you, she whispered as she wiped a tear from the corner of her eye and sneered down at me again, the anger blazing in her eyes. I now own everything you formerly owned. She snarled as she brought the dagger's point close to my face and let it puncture my skin. My skin was cruelly splitting beneath the pressure, and I could feel blood dripping down my face, but I was too weak to raise my arms to push her away.

"I'll tell you another thing, Miss Freya Brown, this relationship between me and Lobo... everyone knew," As I felt my heart break, she grinned maliciously and said, "His Beta, all the members of the pack... they have known for such a long time. You were the only one who didn't know.

The minute she held the dagger above her head with a nasty glitter in her eye, the poisonous sneer and venom in her words pierced my heart. I gazed up at her with wide eyes and bewilderment written all over my face as she lowered the blade, slashing through the skin of my chest and breaking my breastbone as the cold metal stabbed through my heart. When I saw what she intended to do, a rush of frigid dread washed over me.

"Everyone you ever loved and cared about abandoned you for me, Freya."

I was rendered numb as the astonishing vision in front of me seemed to vanish. I never would have thought that I would pass away in this manner. I was incensed by the injustice of it all, and I vowed that if the Moon Goddess would grant me one more chance, I would ensure that Lobo and Lupa would pay with their lives for their betrayal.

I had wandered in a mist-engulfed woodland without knowing where to go. A brilliant light suddenly flooded the woods before me, cutting through the fog and driving it away as its gentle rays danced across my face.

Am I dead? Was this a life beyond death?

I reached out to touch the light as I proceeded towards it, but suddenly, a loud noise seemed to explode in my ears.

"Luna! Please get up; it's time.

"What?" I yelled in shock as I sat bolt upright in my bed in a room I knew all too well. I attempted to process what was happening as I stared in amazement at Omega Amy.

"I'm so pleased you're finally awake. You were sleeping like a log!" She laughed. "There's still a lot to do today in preparation for your third wedding anniversary tomorrow with Lobo, not to mention the preparations that need to be made for the banquet."

Wait, what?" Do you mean to say that the banquet is tomorrow?

"Well, yes, don't you remember?"

The dagger had pierced my chest so forcefully that I reached up and placed my palm there, but there was no visible damage. Maybe everything that had happened was just a dream.

I promptly hopped out of bed and went directly to my desk, pulling my diary from the drawer. This journal helped me immensely with day-to-day life management. I kept track of official events and pack-related activities in there, as well as my mood and a summary of the day's activities so I wouldn't forget anything. I made a list of everything I needed to get done that day every morning.

I opened the page that was supposed to contain the list I was sure I had written as soon as I got up the morning of my anniversary, but it was empty. I flipped back through the entries from the day before in confusion, but they were just as I recalled them.

Could I have received my desire from the Moon Goddess after all?

I followed Amy to the banquet setup in ignorance, thinking that this time would be different as the image of Lupa and Lobo hugging kept playing in my head. Her last words to me before leaving rang in my ears in agony. "Everyone that you ever loved and cared about abandoned you for me,"

Had it happened, or was it just a dream? Why did the sorrow in my heart feel so genuine if it was simply a dream?

"My dear pack brethren, I wanted to say hello to everyone and thank you for coming on such short notice. I am pleased to formally announce that Lupa, my destined mate, will join our pack today. I genuinely hope that Lupa and Luna Freya will receive the same respect.

The meal went on exactly as it had in my dream, and Lobo verbatim recited his remarks. Could it be that I genuinely had a fresh life because the Moon Goddess had heard my cries for justice?

"Freya! Freya!"

"Yes... is that you, Chloe?"

"Oh, thank the goddess that I can finally talk with you again!"

"Chloe, what in the world is happening? We..." In utter shock, I stuttered.

Listen, my love, I'm as perplexed as you are, but there is one thing I know: we did die before. Your dreams were not accurate.

"Then why didn't you answer me when I called for you?"

"Due to that harlot!" We must exercise extreme caution, Freya.

Lobo pushed Lupa towards me this time before I could collect my thoughts.

Lupa here, Freya. I'm sorry, but I have to admit that I've discovered my true partner.

I attentively observed Lupa as she took up the wine glass from the table, walked to me with dignity, and held herself with respect.

Please have mercy on me, Luna, and let me dwell in your home. Allow me to thank you with this glass of red wine, please.

I cautiously grabbed the glass before me and gazed into it, squinting and examining the liquid within, but it appeared to be regular red wine. There were no visible indications that it had been tampered with, and if she hadn't already used this tactic to kill me, I would not have suspected that it contained such a potent poison.

I gave a head shake and returned the glass to her hand.

"No. I won't drink this glass because you have already contaminated it with filthy hands.

For a split second, Lupa's face flashed with a hint of rage as she appeared to freeze in shock at my refusal. The wrath vanished the next instant and was replaced by that convincingly manufactured, innocent, pitiful expression with tear-filled eyes. "Luna, you're correct. My standing is much lower than yours; thus, I shouldn't have...

Lupa, that's enough. You don't need to apologize," Lobo replied softly before turning to face me and yelling, "Freya, watch your words!"

This little whore with two faces shocked me! This excellent, gentle, and sensitive mask that she was currently putting on would have fooled me entirely if I hadn't previously recognized her for who she was.

Lupa quickly raised the glass to her lips as she glanced at me with the slightest hint of a smirk on her lips and drank the glass of red wine that she had just offered to me moments before. I scowled at Lobo and was about to respond with a caustic reply when Lupa interrupted me. I gasped and blinked at her.

This time, did she not taint the wine?

Lupa collapsed to the ground in a flash, coughing up blood, and I jumped back in panic as horrified screams erupted around me. In an instant, Lobo stood by her side, a panicked look imprinted on his lovely features.

"Lupa! What just happened?

Lupa stared at me with the perfect impersonation of anguish written all over her, her bottom lip shaking as she spoke as she collapsed into Lobo's arms. "Luna, I didn't want to destroy your marriage... why would you do this to me?!"

The moment Lobo turned to face me, his eyes locked into mine with an icy rage. He drew Lupa into the safety of his arms as his eyes grew threateningly narrow.

"Guards! The Luna should be detained and taken to the dungeon.

"Lobo?!"
