Dad was agitated but he wasn't acting like someone who just heard his daughter is missing and by supernaturals.

He was pacing around but that wasn't an action.

"What are we going to do?" I asked him, dialing Kristy again.

Pick, I prayed.

"I've called the court, They are working on it."

"And we are going to sit and watch? She could be in danger!"

My father shot me dirty looks but I was having none of it.

I was going to court.

"If you're going to do nothing, I'm going there myself."

"You will do no such thing!" My father warned.

His voice echoed in the room making the window glasses shake reminding me he was in authority.

"But Dad?"

"I've given you an answer. The court will get us a reply soon."

Like a good little girl that I was, I raced upstairs.

Slamming myself unto the bed hoping I hit my head on the bedstead and bled to death.

I wished.

My eyes went to the photo frame laying on my dressing table. A photo of me and Krista. Her purple hair dancing in the wind.

"We promised to be together until the end. What happened?"

Seeing Krista's photo gallery me a burning passion to disobey my father. Whether he liked it or not, I was going to the court, they had a lot of explaining to do.

My phone vibrated. I swiped seeing 'Nicole'.

Nicole was the head of 36 Diner and my best friend next to Kristy.

"Hello."

"How are you doing?" Her tender voice answered.

"Good."

"I came to the diner and you weren't there. Anything wrong?"

A tiny part of me wants to pour my heart out to her but she was human and would be taken out by cleaners, a mysterious supernatural sect who as their name implied cleaned supernatural messes.

"Just tired."

"Oh really." She sounded perturbed, "Should I visit?"

"No! Just a bit tired. I'll come later. I just need to rest."

"Ok." Was her plain reply and she did me a great favor cutting the phone before I burst all I has kept inside me to her.

Glancing to my phone's wallpaper which was another photo of Kristy holding a shell and grinning like the happiest being in the world.

"I'll find you, Kristy."

"Where are you going?" Father insisted on taking my luggage.

Dragging it back I told him point-blank,

"Going to Radiant court. If you won't do it, I will."

"You are going nowhere young woman."

"I am!" I snapped.

We both exchanged stares.

"And what are you going to do? Question them? A powerless fae questioning the authorities that could make her life miserable." His intimidating voice uttered.

"Stop it, Dad! You always blame me for being powerless but is it my fault? You're powerless too!"

I didn't know where that courage came from but it did and it brought a feeling of freedom. Freedom from that shackles I had carried since childhood.

"Oh, so this is about me now." Father mocked.

I knew I should back off and just leave but no! I was enjoying this feeling.

"Yes. Because of you, I was born without magic and you've always blamed me for being born this way when in fact you are at fault."

"Good then." Was father's sudden reply. "I guess you should leave then. And—tell me how it goes."

I didn't miss his sarcastic tone but I did not turn back.

The transit was a busy one and being my second time leaving town, I got the fuzzy feeling plus I was also lonely.

"Hey." Some pervert whistled, staring at me in an uncomfortable Way.

I ignored him and went to get my ticket, then sat down for the next train going to Fayash.

"Fayash." A gentleman nudged me.

I hadn't realized I had slept in that short time.

"Thanks." I acknowledged.

The ride was humdrum and I couldn't get the smell of onions off me. The person near to me obviously enjoyed them.

I was glad I got out an hour later.

The court of Radiance was hidden right in plain sight. To the mundanes, it was just an average duplex but inside was a different world.

Cranking the door anticlockwise and murmuring the gibberish we were forced to master as the password to the portal.

Turning right and left to see if anyone was watching, I opened the door seeing no mundane around.

An abyss of pink and purple hue looking like energy balls welcomed me, it magic slowly singing to me in melodious tunes, enchanting so I hopped in.

***

"What do you need?" A woman demanded, pure white hair made into a ponytail and focused on her monitor screen.

Her voice, she must be the rude bitch I conversed with over the phone.

"I'm here to see the Troika.

My reply made the woman turn up and adjust her glasses. She had snow-white eyes to complement the hair.

"I'm sorry but the elders can only be seen for important situations."

"My sister is freaking missing. Isn't that dire enough for you bunch of—adamantine..."

"No need for the insult Miss Swanson."

I turned to meet a green-haired man class in a black suit, ironed, and hugging to his body like a second skin. If one focused enough you could see the dick print.

He had a smile that would make one melt and his eyes black and mysterious like his dick print.

"I'll take it from here Clarisse." He informed the woman I had been talking to earlier.

"Follow me." The man instructed and I did.

"You look a lot like your sister."

I didn't know what I should make of his compliment, I resented being compared to Kristy so I did the best to enjoy the building decor.

The massive structure was coated in gold. The lights making them shimmer. The staircase rails adorned with enamel that made it soothing to the touch.

"You seem lost."

His emerald eyes brought me back to reality.

"Sorry. Was enjoying the view."

He smiled,

"Wait till you see the garden."

He was really friendly and wasn't reminding me I was less. Probably because he was being professional.

"We're here." He said and opened two oak doors ancient as time.

He didn't enter, instead, he directed me inside.

I took a lungful of air and entered.

The room was a small room, it didn't even deserve to be called a room. It looked like a glasshouse. Greens and shrubs are grown like it was a garden and not a room.

Golden irises monitored me until I took my seat.

Three individuals dressed in nature at its rawest and green hair, something that meant faes were closer with nature. The only distinct thing about them was their golden eyes.

"What do you want quotidian!"

It was a question. It was an order.

"I've—come here to know more about my sister."

"Ah! Swanson." They said in unison, "The technicals have been investigating her disappearance from the transit. We suggest you go there."

It was like they hardly even cared about what happened to her. The hate in their eyes told me they wanted me out of their sight as soon as possible.

"Frank, Take the quotidian to the technicals if she has anything useful to help them with."

My luggage was getting heavy to hold and I was already thinking about which motel to Lodge in for the night.

I didn't have much money so it was worrisome to think of.

Frank, the green-haired hunk came to my rescue directing me out of the room.

He noticed my luggage was heavy and he helped me with much to the chagrin of his superiors.

"And—don't be a slut, Frank."

Their last sentence disgusted me. They must really think I'm cheap. It was simple to them. You don't have abilities, you're basically the epitome of everything bad.

Frank flushed genuinely embarrassed or maybe it wasn't an insult to me but a warning. He was awful nice to me and as his name implied I was Frank-ly attracted to him.

The technicals were a one-man group. A brainy sixteen years old talented in hijackery, a type of magic that allowed a fae to siphon mainframe intelligence.

"Join me." He instructed sinking his teeth into a burger.

Straight to the point, I liked him already.

"Checking your sister through the CCTV, I noticed something strange." His fingers touching his mouse and Fae dust working their magic. He managed to hack into the security system. Going through the video files, I saw my sister and almost screamed 'Kristy'.

She was getting out of the train and when a car highlighted before her blocking her from view for a few seconds. The strange thing when the car was gone, Kristy was also gone.

I was right. She had been taken and in the midst of people. Who were we dealing with?

"But there is something else."

The man's word got my attention.

"What?"

He played the clip again only a tad slower this time.

"Now look at when the car passes by."

I obeyed the man. When the car passed by Krista I saw something, a speck, dust, Fae dust to be precise.

"You don't mean—"

"She teleported."

He was right but teleporting was a dangerous feat for a Fae as they could get trapped in the in-between.

Was Kristy stuck in the in-between?
