Chapter 4

I slided on neat underwear and then wore the dirty one I'd prepare afterwards. As I finished up with a coat, I deliberately made myself look pale with powder then I grabbed the only thing I had of value in my room. A piece of ruby chain. I was told the Alpha had someone put it there as a token of appreciation for our night together.

To me, it was worth nothing compared to what I'd given so I did not mind giving it away as bribe.

I boldly walked down the hallway of dozing guards but as I reached the pathway leading outside, I encountered a guard, poised and diligent to his work.

"What are you doing here?" He asked sternly, "You're supposed to prepare to bathe, as with the other girls."

I immediately went down to my knees, as planned.

"Sir, please have mercy on me! I smell, and the other girls won't stop making fun of me. I've heard of healer Vanessa just outside of the mansion. If I can just meet with her, my problem would be solved!"

The officer gave me a odd look but when the smell hit him, I saw the look of uncomfortability cross his face.

"T-that smell is you?" He asked, a little bit of shock and sympathy on his face.

"I am ashamed but that is the truth, sir! My Alpha already took a liking to me in bed," I removed the ruby chain on my side and handed it to the officer. "But if he finds out of my condition, he will hate me forever! So please, have this, In exchange, I'll be healed and I'll be indebted to you and give you whatever jewels you need in the future!"

The officer sighed, and I could tell he was deliberating on my story.

"What medical condition do you have that makes you smell this bad?"

"It's… toilet infection and—"

"—Nevermind, I don't care!" He interupted, almost horrifically. "You can go, but don't take too long or else I can't cover for you!"

I bowed deeply until my forehead was almost touching the ground. "You're very kind! Thank you sir, for saving my life. I'll be indebted to you forever."

"Just go!"

I scurried up from the ground as he opened up the door and walked out, feeling the cold wind hit my face for the first time in a long time.

It had been too long, since I felt the fresh air caressing my hair so beautifully and wonderfully.

I clutched the front of my shirt, feeling my heart burn at the thought of leaving the encampment of my mate. But I couldn't cry over it either knowing I hadn't even seen him in a while, and he hadn't looked at my face since the first night.

I still wondered what could have made him suddenly lose interest in me. I was certain of the lustful look he'd given and the raw emotions in his eyes when we'd made love. But now, it all didn't matter. It was going to fall apart because I let it, but it was for a good cause. To raise my baby.

I may have lost my Chasity and purity in the hands of my mate, but I wasn't completely hopeless because I'd gained something back. A child of my own.

May the moon goddess bless it and make me lucky.

I deliberately raced info the fields where the grasses and tulips would hide my scent. I quickly took off my dirty underwear and dug the ground to bury it so I wouldn't be tracked through the offensive smell but when I turned around to leave, I jumped at the sight of whom was watching me.

Auburn hair, and flushed cheeks with brown teary eyes.

"R-rose," I stuttered. It was very unexpected that I was seeing her here but what I was worried about most was the fact that she now knew my secret.

"Adriana, you don't have toilet infection, you're pregnant."

All the blood seemed to disappear from my face. I took a step towards Rose threatenly, "If you tell anyone I swear—"

"—I won't tell anyone," she said as she took a step back. "You're making the right decision. You'd die with the baby in your womb if the girls find out you're with child. And the Alpha would never find out because he's too busy,"

I made note of the brightening sky and said, "I have to go. But promise me you won't tell anyone about what you know."

Rose looked around us, the dark orange hoodie she was wearing flapping around her face as the wind suddenly hit us where we were standing.

I was about to walk past Rose but she grabbed my hand, her eyes looking as though they were contemplating something as she met my eye.

All of a sudden, she released my hand and unzipped her hoodle before putting it around me and covering my head properly.

Then he dug into her pocket and handed me a key. "This is a token the Alpha gave me. You can show a guard this when you want to leave the mansion and they're giving you a hard time."

I collected the key out of desperation, feeling my heart pound due to its anticipation for something to happen.

"The hoodie is also a gift from the Alpha, they will let you go when they recognize it. But if they don't, just use the key. Hurry up and go before it's too late."

"Why are you helping me?" I asked, knowing I hadn't been exactly good to Rose even when she made efforts to reach out to me.

"Because I liked you. But also because you're the Alpha's mate."

My eyes widened in shock and I clenched the front of the hoodie in fear and horror, "H-how?" I stumbled back feeling as though I'd been knocked off balance. "How do you know that?"

"Because the night the Alpha choose me, he was miserable, and he kept calling your name. So we didn't have sex. Instead, he kept me alive to spy on you and make sure you're well in exchange for little freedom, but he's still too busy so instead he has officers watch you in secret."

I swallowed, feeling overwhelmed with this new source of information.

Did that mean the Alpha was trying to protect me all this while which was why he kept a distance from me?

Even though this information gave me a sense of relief, it didn't dispute the fact that I had to leave for my baby's safety if he couldn't put us first.

"I understand now, Rose." I said with a smile, "Thank you for your help, I'll get going now."

Rose sighed and nodded, "It's for the best, you should leave. Bye,"

I gave a final look at Rose before turning around and running.
