Rhea's POV
I stared in fascination at the gorgeous chick in front of me. She had her long auburn hair in a braid and her strange but pretty silver eyes were narrowed in my direction.
What fascinated me the most was not her looks, but the fact that she was wearing a knee-length black and silver tunic and a black leather armour vest. She carried a bow and arrows too. Everything looked real and if they were props, they were damn good ones.
Overall, she looked as if she has appeared straight from the cover of a fantasy book. And she popped up in the middle of my living room?
I liked to read fantasy books, and maybe recently I read books with characters like these. I racked my brain to find if I had ready any with gorgeous huntress heroines but couldn’t remember any.
I blinked again and pinched myself. I had a helluva fine imagination, but it was time to wake up from this crazy dream. I yelped when I felt the pain from the pinch. Okay, maybe I was still awake, and it was not a dream. I stared up to see that the girl was still standing there, and it didn't seem as if she was going anywhere, anytime soon.
I stared doubtfully at the water I was drinking. Maybe if I was in a club, I would have thought that someone spiked my drink and I was hallucinating. But this was my home, and there was no one else here to drug me.
The chick looked irritated at me now. I raised my brows, considering my options. Maybe I was tired and my mental health was more affected from my amnesia than I thought. I reached the conclusion that I just needed to sleep it off.
I turned back to my television after I decided that I would just ignore my imaginary guest, complete watching the episode and go to sleep.
I heard a scream of frustration and looked up to see that the girl looked really pissed off at me. I narrowed my eyes at her, but then my attention went to Morris as I saw that he was standing up with his fur on edge. He was hissing in the direction where I saw the girl. Did that mean he could see her too? Now I was just plain confused and didn’t know what to think.
“Two years! We were searching all the worlds for you in the last two years! What are you doing in Earth frolicking with the humans?” she asked.
I stared at her in utter confusion. What on Earth was she talking about?
Seeing the expression on my face, she glared at me.
“Why are you looking at me as if you are seeing me for the first time?” she snapped at me.
Maybe because I was? I wanted to say that, but I was too dumbstruck to even think of speaking.
But it didn't seem as if she was waiting for me to answer because she continued her rambling.
"What were you thinking? Were you even thinking at all? How could you just disappear like that? We thought something happened to you! All this time, you were here acting like a simple human? And the trackers never received the signal of you using your powers in the last two years. How did you manage that? It was just recently that they managed to get your signal and reported to me," she snapped at me.
Then she heaved a breath.
"Be glad it was me who found you and not Athena or Persephone. They both are really cross with you," she said in a softer tone.
It was the first time in my life I let someone speak to me this long without interrupting them. Well, in the two years I could remember, anyway.
Was this girl really here and what was she talking about? And why is she speaking to me like we know each other?
She sighed and looked tired suddenly.
"Nemesis, stop playing and come back to Olympus. We need you there. Without you, everything is on chaos. You may think it doesn’t matter, but there is no justice served without vengeance. Whatever made you leave, we can find a solution," she said.
I continued staring at her with a dubious expression.
“But now, we have bigger problems. The Titans in hiding are planning a war on Olympians, and they are trying to release Cronus from Tartarus. If that happens, everything we Olympians built will be lost! And the entire race of humans you seem to love would also be eradicated simply because they worship us!” she said with urgency.
I didn’t comprehend anything she said, and it all felt like gibberish to me. I kept a blank expression on my face as I stared at her.
She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Why won’t you say anything? I know that you like Earth. I do too. It’s fascinating with different cultures, languages, and different type of people. I too visited here often and learned their languages, slangs and technologies. But it is not our place. We are meant to be worshipped by them, not to live with them. Two years doesn't mean much to us immortals, but it is time to end this game of yours," she continued her tirade.
I had enough of her nonsense, and finally I snapped. Even if she was actually just my imagination, she deserved my wrath for pestering me all this while.
“Who are you, crazy armour wearing lady?” I asked angrily.
"Nemesis, stop playing around. It was fun while it lasted, but I don’t have time for your games anymore," she said.
“Who the hell is Nemesis? My name is Rhea!” I shrieked.
She flinched hearing that, and I didn’t know if it was because of my shouting or because I swore.
“You really don’t remember me?” she asked with shock.
“Well, I don't remember anything from before two years ago. Do you really know who I was before the last two years?” I asked curiously. I hoped that she could shed some light on my identity.
“You mean, you thought you were just a human? You really don’t have any idea that you are a Goddess?” she asked.
Now I was sure that she was just teasing me.
"This complicates matters, but things make sense now. You thought you were human, and that's why your power couldn’t be tracked because you didn’t even know you had powers," she said, more to herself.
"We are both Goddesses. You are Nemesis, the Goddess of vengeance, and I am Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt," she said.
I just looked at her with narrowed eyes.
She stared at my doubtful expression.
"I have been talking to you in the language of the Gods and you are also talking in the same language," she pointed out.
But I was just talking in English! Wasn’t I?
She rolled her eyes.
"Tell me, have you even aged a day in the last two years? And you must have used your power in the last week when the trackers received your signal," she said.
Well, I didn’t age in the last two years, but I thought that I was just blessed with good genes. I thought of how people seemed to be attracted to my very presence.
When I heard the word power, my mind flashed back to the day when I saw the black mist flying towards Eric. Was it actually my doing?
I shook my head. It was impossible. I just couldn’t imagine myself as a Goddess.
The girl who claimed to be the Goddess Artemis sighed.
"I will solve this problem. I will find out what really happened to you two years ago. It must be linked to the problems in Olympus. I will see how I can get your memories back. Meanwhile, you stay here and focus on getting your powers back," she said.
“Be careful, if I found you, others can find you too. If you face any trouble, call out my name three times and I will come to your aid. See you soon!” she said and then vanished as if she was never there in the first place.
After she vanished, I sat in a daze. I would have checked for hidden cameras if it was anywhere else, but this was my home! And she literally popped up into existence in front of my eyes.
There were only two options. Either I was going bat shit crazy or she was telling the truth. I was leaning towards the first option simply because Gods and Goddesses did not exist in the real world, right?
Rhea's POV The next day, I woke up feeling tired. I couldn’t sleep till late into the night because of the excitement I felt. When I finally slept, I kept dreaming about Gods and powers. As I thought of the events of the last night, I chose the path of denial. I decided that I should just blame my overactive imagination. Accepting myself as crazy was better than the alternative that was believing that mythical beings that should have stayed in just books and films existed in real life. I could live as a crazy human, but I didn’t want to be a Goddess. I mean, I was the least Goddess like woman among all the ladies I had known in the last two years. I admit, I was pretty enough to be one though. I laughed at my own joke and rolled my eyes. This was what would happen when you are alone with just your own company for too long. You would talk to yourself and laugh at your own jokes. Not to forget, you would start imagining Goddess friends popping up in you
Rhea’s POV I stood still as I pondered the options I had. I could either run screaming for my life as any sane person in my situation would do, or I could try the martial arts I learned to fight them. As it had already been established that I was not a sane person, I chose to try and fight them. But before that, I gave one last chance to my theory of denial. Slowly, I pinched myself to see if I was really awake. I flinched when I felt the pain. I guess I shouldn’t have pinched that hard. I rubbed my hand as I stared at the shadow creatures. As a last resort, I closed my eyes and stood for a moment before opening my eyes. I blinked when I saw that the creatures were still there and they were closer than before. Well, it was worth a try. I sighed as I realised that there was no way out of the mess other than trying to fight. I wouldn’t go down without a fight. If these things thought that they had an easy prey, they are going to realise the hard way that they had it wrong. I dropped
Rhea’s POV I reached my apartment, but I couldn't remember walking home. My body must have been on autopilot mode while my thoughts wandered over. I had a bath in hot water and felt my tense muscles relax. My body was aching and even after the bath, I felt as if I came from a war zone. Well, I kind of did. After I settled on the couch with Morris, and got a moment to breathe freely, the events of the night registered in my mind. Until then, it was as if I was having an out of the body experience and I was watching it all happening to someone else. Now, in the safety of my home, with my trusted companion, it was settling in that I really had fought demonic creatures, and a wolf, of all things, came to my rescue. Not to forget the demonic creature I had a date with! And most importantly, I used powers? In the heat of the moment, while fighting for my life, it felt like a good thing when I suddenly manifested the ability to throw black mist and fling dem
Rhea's POVThe next morning, I woke up feeling tired. I was so confused and stressed by the events of the day that I couldn’t bring myself to sleep. It was late in the night when I finally fell asleep, and even then; it was a restless sleep filled with dreams. I couldn’t remember the exact details of the dream other than the fact that it seemed to be otherworldly. I had been having such dreams from as far as I could remember, but I never paid much heed to it thinking they were just dreams. Now, I was not so sure. I had the feeling that there was more to it. Maybe they were glimpses of my forgotten past. Maybe I was really a Goddess in that world...I felt the beginning of a headache and got up from the bed with a yawn. I guessed that I would have to get used to sleepless nights at the rate things were going. I really needed a cup of coffee before I could act like a human rather than the zombie I was feeling like. I start
Rhea’s POVIn the night, I kept tossing around in the bed and couldn’t bring myself to sleep. Whenever I closed my eyes, the moments when the demon sucked off Claire’s life force played in mind like a scene from a horror movie. I didn’t feel this scared even when I was attacked by the demons. But seeing my friend almost die in front of me
The next day, I stood looking around my apartment, the only home I had ever known. I had already informed the owner that I would be away for a while and paid the rent for six months in advance, just in case. I had packed a few dresses, my cosmetics, snacks, cat food for Morris, and a
Rhea's POVI felt like a kid visiting Disneyland for the first time as I explored the room. It was the first time I was staying in a hotel room and the experience was new for me. The room was furnished with a king sized bed, a couch, and a beautifully designed table. It had a flat
I went to the bathroom and took a shower. I felt dirty from just being touched by him and wanted to scrub off the filth from my skin. I still felt phantom fingers on my mouth and his breath on my neck. I still felt dirty even after scrubbing my skin raw to the point where it turned pink. I gave up on it and just got dressed.
