Author's POV
It was the last break for that day. They all went out, Kehna was the last person to get out of the classroom.
When she finally got out everyone was already in their cliques and she was all alone, till a lady approached her. She looked very pretty and young.
"Hey! Aren't you the new student?"
"Yes, I am".
"Kehna right?"
She nodded "Hi Kehna, I'm Alexandria". She smiled in response, not knowing what to do or say. "You don't talk too much, do you?" She thought for a moment, was she supposed to tell her, the main reason why?
"Well, I do, it's just that, I don't know what to say. I've said a lot, that I'm starting to regret".
"Look you don't have to be shy around me, I know you probably won't immediately feel comfortable with me but that's why I'm here, so you can feel free to talk about anything you want''.
"Okay, so, you mean you're like a teacher I can come to at any time and pour out my problems?"
"Yes, something in that way. I'm not a teacher but, what you said was correct". "Is this a part-time kind of job?"
"No, you won't understand, I work here as a normal worker, I'm just not a teacher, for example, the cleaner's in this school also work here just not as teachers".
"Oh, okay, now I understand"
"Do you want to tell me anything? Feel free to do so" Alexandria was the only person, she had at that moment to talk with.
And she wanted to get rid of everything she was thinking of, maybe talking to her isn't a bad idea after all.
"Um... so the thing is, I don't know how to explain it because I don't even know what happened. So when I came here, I'm new here obviously. I made a friend, on my first day of school and her name is Ruby. When I got to school, everyone was staring and glaring at me, and once I tried explaining to one of my classmates, the kind of relationship I had with this friend of mine she completely lost it. I've tried not to get into conclusions yet, but what am I supposed to do? The bad thing here isn't that I almost don't have any friends, it's I can't make any, because I get ignored by literally everyone".
"Wow, that was a lot for the first day of school. I'm sorry but you seriously can't blame them... look, I know Ruby isn't in school right now but tomorrow she surely will, so you can talk to her tomorrow, okay?" With that, Alexandria quickly tried to change the subject and left.
She didn't want to get into trouble with the director because she couldn't keep my mouth shut. Alexandria was a very loyal person and answering Kehna's questions would make her seem the opposite of that.
Alexandria didn't act any different from Olivia. 'What's wrong with this school... No! What's wrong with this place in general?'
The bell rang, Kehna wanted to enter but she was pushed away and couldn't enter.
She waited till everyone else was gone.
She finally got in, but there were students everywhere and she couldn't come through, she knew for sure that she was going to be late for class.
Kehna ran as fast as she could. She finally reached the classroom and tried to apologize quickly.
"I'm sorry that I'm late there were so many people in the hallway, I couldn't come through". She said still panting, the teacher looked at her with disbelieve, meanwhile, the others were either laughing or looking at each other with confused looks.
"Go take your seat, Ms. Arellalo". She'd rather be buried in the ground than have to sit there till class was over.
It has been like 15min but it felt like years "Kehna!" She was paying attention, the whole time but when Ms. Kelly called her, it totally caught her off guard.
"What is a Cytoplasm"?
'Cyto- what?' She thought. "Uh, an animal cell?"
"You could have also answered that in a full sentence," Kehna thought Ms. Kelly didn't mean what she said, so she didn't say anything but, Ms. Kelly kept on looking at her.
"A Cytopla-"
"You know what, forget it, let's continue". She took a deep breath and sighed. At that point no one cared and just acted like, it was all normal.
She started writing on the board and she was so fast Kehna couldn't follow her, she cleared the board after every sentence.
And then, out of all moments, the bell rang, and she was still trying to figure out what she had written down before, canceling it from the board. She felt dumb at that moment. It was only her and a few students that were remaining in the classroom.
"You made a good first impression of, yourself to miss Kelly" a boy, she didn't recognize whispered, he chuckled and left.
She didn't know his name because she hadn't had the chance to get to know them... yet.
Then she realized that she had to get on the bus before she missed it.
She was so sure that she was going to miss the bus this time and she already had a miserable day.
Kehna ran like she was running for her life, the bus was about to move but she still got there on time.
She was breathing hard because she ran so fast.
This time again, she was given weird looks from each side. She sat down bored waiting like a little kid to finally get home, she looked out of the window thinking of the "Amazing" day she had behind her.
"I'm home!" Kehna said exhausted, she met her mom alone in the kitchen.
"Afternoon" she smiled and said, "How was your day?" She hummed trying to distract her mother from the question, but it didn't seem to work.
"So are you going to tell me?"
"Where's dad?"
"He's asleep because you remember, he's going to work a bit earlier today, so how was your day?"
"Fine, and yours?" She blurted out like every normal sentence just, in an annoying way. "I just want to know how your day was, you didn't have to use kind that of tone on me. Look today has been a busy and stressful day for me, apparently for you too. You can warm your food by yourself, I'm going to rest my head".
At that moment she started asking herself what had come upon her.
Kehna did as her mom had told her and went straight for her homework. She finished late but didn't want to go to bed, because she just wasn't tired.
She also wasn't ready to face her mom after, what happened that afternoon. She then went to bed, not forgetting to pack her stuff. She had difficulties sleeping.
It was "finally" morning.
"Morning mom," she said lazily "Morning how was your night?"
"I'm sorry that I talked back at you like that yesterday, I was just having a bad day"
"It's okay, here's your breakfast, I wasn't having the best day either but I'm sure today is going to be different. I'm going to that boutique and I'm going to ask if there is a free space for work, I have a good feeling about it."
"Okay, I wish you lots of luck but, why boutique you could also go to a restaurant or bakery"
"You're right but I need a job. I can't stay home all day and you know the money your dad earns won't reach for us as a family".
"Okay, wish you lots of luck" and with that, she left for school.
"Morning sir," Kehna said entering the bus.
"Can I have your bus card?" he said rudely.
"Sure" Kehna felt like everyone was so fed up with her.
She entered after showing her card and fortunately, she saw Ruby and she waved at her, signaling me to come to sit with her. "Hey long time no see," she said sarcastically, Kehna just laughed a little. "Hi," Kehna said lazily. "Are you okay?" she took a deep breath and "Yeah, it's just it's been a long week, I mean I've been in school since the day before yesterday, but these have been my worse days in school".
"I couldn't even make any friends, because everyone ignored me," Kehna said pouting but Ruby was looking out of the window like she didn't hear any of it.
'Was she also ignoring her?'.
She just ignored that, they both sat silent the whole ride long.
"Everyone going to Amsterdam high school, get out!" The bus driver shouted they all got out, at least most of them.
"Come on we've got to hurry, we've got biology"
"Ugh" Kehna groaned, Ruby looked at her with a confused look not knowing why she did that.
They went to their locker and they were opposite each other. "Come quickly" she rushed, this time the students made way for her and Ruby but the day before she had to wait until everyone was gone.
Kehna just sighed and followed her. "Good morning, class" miss Kelly said without even looking at the class "Good morning miss Kelly," the class replied, lazily. "Today we're going to be talking about our previous topic so I'll explain it to you again and you'll do the exercises I prepared for you"
"Is she always so excited about teaching? " Kehna asked sarcastically, but also annoyed. "You want to get thrown out of this class, don't you?" Was she mad? Her facial expression said it all, after that we both stayed quiet for the rest of the lesson.
After the lesson ended, Kehna didn't bother to wait for Ruby.
"Hey, Kehna," she said after breathing out loudly "Look I know we haven't known each other for long, but you've got to understand that my family and Ms. Kelly are kind of friendly you know, so I've got to make a good impression of myself to her, and with that attitude of yours you're never going to pass in her classes she's strict, so be careful how you talk or do things around her or around here in general".
That was a long speech she thought, but she also was going to listen to her. Ms. Kelly seemed to have a bad temper, she wasn't going to let her mouth or thoughts ruin her education.
Normally she wasn't like this, all sassy and moody, maybe it was puberty? They both went to their lockers preparing for the next lesson.
They were on break, so Ruby took Kehna to the cafeteria, all eyes were on them again, or on her or Ruby or-. Ugh, she couldn't decide, it was already full, she was about to tap Ruby on her shoulder, when she walked to a table she had been staring at for a while.
"Let's go," she said Kehna hesitated but followed.
Students were sitting there already, like I said the cafeteria was full. "Ruby we can'-" the students immediately stood up when they saw Ruby approach. They left their table. Kehna seemed shocked but was also dumbfounded by Ruby who was already sitting.
She didn't want to ask anything because she felt like no one was listening to her or wanted to give her attention so, she'd better stay caught up in her thoughts than always say something wrong.
The bell rang, all of a sudden. She couldn't eat because, of the eyes that were on them. Two lessons were over, that day just felt like forever.
"Ruby?" She called out. "Do you mind explaining to me, why every time I'm with you people keep running away from me?" she chuckled softly "Are you trying to say, that I'm the reason why you can't find friends?"
"No, that's not what I meant"
"Well, technically it is"
"You're right, I'm sorry it's just that I hate the fact I can't make friends an-"
"What about me?"
"Sure, I just meant everyone is ignoring me and I'm sorry to say this but I mostly get arrogant stares and mumbling, when I'm with you".
"Yeah, you're right about the staring of the students and they also have the right to do so." She sighed heavily "I don't know you, I just want to be friends with you. Since it's going to difficult, to make friends with others".
Ruby looked like she was at the edge of crying "Sorry I didn't mean to" with that, the bell rang and she didn't care waiting for her. It wouldn't be a surprise to Kehna if Ruby didn't want to be friends anymore, were they even friends in the first place?
The school was over, they could, now finally go home "hurrah!!" She almost forgot she was going to apologize to Ruby, Kehna looked around for her but couldn't find her till... She saw the same black-tinted car from last time. "Ruby! Hey, are you going home already?"
"What do you think, that I was going to sleep in school?"
"No, that's not I meant I... I'm... Just -"
"Are you going to get to the point already, or are we going to stay here till evening?",
"I'm sorry that I said those things to you, even if we've only known each other for two days, I shouldn't have judged you"
"Okay, bye" before she entered the car, Kehna quickly stopped her.
"Is that it?"
"Yeah, what else do you want? We're good, see you on Monday" so she left after saying that.
She once again almost missed the bus. She still managed to get on the bus this time. Her parents would kill her if she missed the bus even just once.
Kehna luckily entered the bus once again and immediately looked for a seat.
"Hey, can I sit here?"
"Yeah, sure" after she sat down and there was a bit of silence then... "Are you a new student?" She faced her and said "Umm... yeah I think so" she nodded.
They entered this awkward silence again "So you go to Amsterdam high school?"
"Yeah"
"By the way, I'm Kehna what about you?"
"I'm Stella Garcia my dad owns a big restaurant, I like boosting about it, you know?" She chuckled before saying... "Can't really, relate"
"Sorry, didn't want to seem pompous"
"No, what I meant is I can't boast about anything right now, we're new here and we've still got to get used to this place and 'the people' here" the last part she said out loud "I know what you mean when you say 'the people'"
"Really?"
"Yeah, they're sometimes rude you hardly find nice people in this place. I mean you've probably noticed, it almost seems like a dead city" she thought a bit about what she said. "You know what, I'll soon get off so give your number or tell me how I can contact you," Stella asked.
"You want my number?" When she said that, Stella almost broke out in laughter.
"You've got to see your face right now, I'm not asking you if you want to get married I just want your number, so we can get to know each other better" At this moment Kehna didn't want to act desperate for a friend so she hesitated a bit. "You know what? Could you maybe give me your phone number, my phone is at home"
"Okay no problem" she smiled, it was nice to someone to talk with someone like her "Stella?"
"Hmm"
"Your parents- no forget it" "You don't have to be scared of asking me something."
"No, it's not a big deal"
"Okay, as you wish"
"Everyone going to Old street, get out!"
"Bye," she waved back as an answer. The bus arrived at my destination "Have a good day, sir" Kehna was so excited and happy that she didn't care if he answered or not.
"I'm home!"
"How was your day?" My dad said with his full concentration on the newspaper.
"Umm... It was okay"
"Your mom isn't back yet, you can warm the food and eat I've already eaten" after warming the food, she sat down to eat. She and her dad didn't exchange a word with each other. It was normal, he waited till her mom came back so he could go to bed. The next thing they heard was the doorknob twisting.
"So exhausting" they could hear her say from the lobby.
"Okay! I almost thought there were no people in this house, you know you can talk with each other, it's not a crime"
"Hi mom"
"Hi dear, how was your day?"
"To be honest at first horrible, but then great"
"Well, I'm happy you had such a wonderful day, mine didn't go as planned" she was about to say something when her dad interrupted. "Hello, I'm also here don't forget me" with that her mom pecked father on the lips. "Ewww! Don't do that in front of me!"
"You're going to do stuff like this in the future so get used to it. Anyway have fun you two, I'm going to bed now".
"So why was your day so bad?"
"Remember I told you I was going to ask if there was space at that boutique? They told me there is no space for me, I even went to supermarkets, but no"
"Oh, that's bad why don't you try asking at restaurants?"
"Yes, I already thought of that, I'll try asking".
After she was done eating and putting her things, in her room she suddenly remembered that Stella had given her, her number so she quickly took out her phone and went back to the kitchen "Mom today I kind of exchanged numbers with someone, I didn't give her my number but she gave me her's"
"What's her name?"
"Umm... Stella Garcia"
" Ahh okay."
Meanwhile at the Garcia's
"Papi I'm home!" Stella searched for her dad "Nenita you're back, how was school?" "Umm... Papi as usual but I met someone today"
"Oh, you made a friend?"
"Something like that Papi, anyways I gave her my number. I think she's friends with Ruby"
"Que?"
"I know Papi, we shouldn't mix ourselves with the William family, but she doesn't seem to know anything about them or Ruby"
"Okay".

Stella's POV Still at the Garcia's, "Stella I'll be off to the restaurant now'' my dad shouted from downstairs, while I was in my room, I quickly ran downstairs "Dad but you promised, we would have our game night today'' I whined, "Yes, nenita I almost forgot, I'll make sure to be back before 9 PM okay?" "Yeah Papi," I said disappointed. "Don't fall asleep before I come back" I hummed in response. When my dad was gone I suddenly remembered that Kehna hadn't called yet. So I started looking for something to eat, even if I knew what I was looking for wasn't available. Kehna's POV At the Arellalo's, I did, as I said I was going to. The phone had been ringing for the past five minutes I was going to end the call but she picked up. "Hello?" "Hi it's Kehna, we met today on the bus" "Yeah, I already thought you weren't going to ca
After the lesson was over, Kehna's POV " -And that's how you hit a high note. Well, that's all for today, you can start packing your stuff " I could for some kind of reason understand why Ruby was drooling over a teacher, because the bell hadn't rung yet but he's already asking us to pack. And not just that, he looks like he actually knows what he's doing. Everyone already went out, as usual. I also finally came out of the classroom, I was walking peacefully to my locker, when someone tapped my shoulder I turned around and to my surprise, it was Stella. "Already forgot about me?" we hugged each other "So?", "What do you mean by, so?" "Are we picking you up today?" "Oh, yeah about, that my mom is also coming" "Okay, great" "Want to go outside?" she asked. "Umm...what about the cafeteria, I mean I'm also okay, with going out but-" "Let's g
Kehna's POV "Mr. Garcia, I've been coming here to help out a lot, since my mother started working here. I thought maybe, it would be better if I asked for a job here" "You're right, you've been helping a lot, but does your mother know about this?" "Of course, I'm going to tell her once you accept to give me a job". "I'm not sure Kehna" "Sir, I can do anything, washing dishes, sweeping, or even serving" "I know, but what I mean is that your mother won't like that, and except for that you're close to my daughter" he had too many good reasons for him not to give me a job. So I had to think quickly about how to persuade him. "Sir, you have a point, I and your daughter are close but come to think of it, my mom won't have a choice because the money both my mother and father earn won't be enough for us as a family". I was thankful he was kind of convinced with my speech. When

Stella's POV Ruby took Kehna out for fresh air, I couldn't comfort Kehna since Ruby was clinging onto Kehna. I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to start a fight, it wouldn't do her any good at the moment. My dad went out to get us food, we had been in the hospital for a while. "Stella!" I tried looking for where the voice came from. "Oh, dad you took a bit longer than planned, where were you?" "Well as I said, I went to get food for you guys, before you all get grumpy" "Do you think we are interested in eating right now?" "Stella, I know but are you going to starve yourself?" he whispered. "You should be less worried about me not eating. because have you thought about how I'm going to get to school tomorrow? And except for that, you can stop whispering, we are not planning an assassin" I was about to leave but he grabbed me by the wrist. "Why are you so mad? I'm trying to make sure
Kehna's POV I and Stella talked for a long time, everyone else was asleep. After a while, Stella also slept off. I still couldn't fall asleep, after turning and grumbling around, I sat down with my back facing the wall. "Kehna, you aren't asleep yet?" "No" "Are you hungry now?" "No thank you, Mr. Garcia" I knew how much he was trying to make a difference out of everything, but I was kind of traumatised and nothing was going to change that anytime soon. "Mr. Garcia thank you for caring so much. Can I maybe go outside again? I think fresh air would do me some good" "I would love to say yes, but it's already late and dark outside. The doors already closed... So you can't go out now" I understood what he was trying to say. "But can I just walk around?" "Kehna... I'm not so sure about, that I mean there are a lot of patients here and I don't see it as safe" "Okay" I agreed with him, but I wasn't
Kehna's POV After Ruby was done forcing me to eat the food she bought, we were preparing to leave when Stella came in. "Oh, great Stella is here," Ruby said sarcastically "Kehna where have you been?" She said almost out of breath "Did you run in a marathon?". "Very funny, Ruby," Stella said annoyed "We woke up and you were nowhere to be found, so we all split up to search for you" "So everyone is looking for me right now?" "Yeah" she finally sat down and started eating the leftovers. "What do you think you are doing?" Ruby asked with curiosity. "Eating, what you were going to throw away!" "You're so annoying" it was entertaining seeing them rebel against each other. I couldn't stop grinning and they, fortunately, noticed after a long while. "What?" Ruby asked "Well, if I only had my phone with me, I would record you" they both glared at me after I said that. "Have you
Stella's POV I realized acting like I hate Ruby, which I did, didn't help Kehna acknowledge that Ruby isn't a person she should be mingling with. "So? Can I come with you?" I knew this was a bad idea. "Yeah, sure if you need to" I also knew how much she despised it and that made it even more fascinating. "But, Stella don't you think asking your dad would be a good start?" Ruby, you're such a sly fox, I kept on thinking. "You're right, I should probably go look for him and the staffs, there's the possibility that they are still looking for you" "I don't think so, it's been hours" Kehna added "Yeah, but he hasn't reached out to me, so go I'll look for them" "Or you could also just call him?" "Good idea, Ruby!" I slightly glared at her. "I'll call him right now" I dialled he's number waiting for him to finally pick up the phone. "Hey, dad" "Stella where are
Author's POVAfter Kehna and her father left, Ruby quickly went to look for the 'so-called shadow' Kehna saw."Seriously?" She shouted furiously as she waited for an answer."You really have to learn how to knock," the 'so-called shadow' said in a surprisingly calm tone "Look, I'm not here to joke around with you, just tell if you went out today""Yeah, I did. And so what?" Ruby groaned slightly knowing how stubborn the 'so-called shadow' was "You're not-" she proceeded on saying but was interrupted halfway "Yes, I know I have nothing to do out there, most especially not when 'you' have guests" he said as he let Ruby figure out her next argument "But you do know that dad doesn't really care about that man right? I don't know what he's planning this time, but it can't be anything good" he added. "I don't care and except for that should be an irrelevant matter for you" the 'so-called shadow' chuckled looking at Ruby
Author's POV "Oh my Gosh, Dad! I've been looking for you all over. Where were you?" He looked at her with disbelief "What? Can't I just go out for a second? Are you now my bodyguard?" "I was worried" she whispered but her father ignored it and went to the living room. She was left in the kitchen with her thoughts but what she realized next was that she had to make breakfast for her and her father. So she decided to make fried egg so they could eat it with toast. "Dad I made breakfast," she said proudly as she walked into the living room. "I already ate," he said emotionless and at that moment Kehna lost her appetite and went back to the kitchen with the food she had prepared. She started asking herself where her father must have been that early in the morning and he also already had breakfast. This made Kehna think so much even if she shouldn't. After a long time of eating, Kehna finally finished her meal a
Author's POVAfter the discussion between Ruby and Kehna, there was a bit of tension, in as much as Ruby tried to break that tension Kehna always refused."Please take as much as you want," Mrs. William said before sitting down like everyone else. The food looked delicious and it also was, but Kehna couldn't bring herself to eat much she knew she would regret it because that was probably the only meal she would have for that day. And she couldn't bring herself to believe that she would never taste her mom's breathtaking food ever again. She stopped eating and stared at the food in front of her unknowingly till... "Hey, you okay?" She tilted her in the direction of Ruby and nodded "Do you want to go out after we finish?" Ruby asked again and Kehna said nothing but nodded. It was starting to piss Ruby off, but she had to put herself in Kehna's shoes. A couple of minutes passed by and both teens didn't spare a glance at eac
Author's POV Kehna and her father went home, that day with grieve. Ruby, Stella and their families proposed to follow them home, but after they saw how stressed they looked, they didn't bother asking them anymore. On their way home Kehna and her father didn't exchange a word with each other. As they got home both of them didn't bother to dinner or talk to each other. When Kehna reached her room she laid on her bed waiting for her to be woken up by her mother, so she could tell her all about the crazy nightmare she had, but unfortunately, that never happened so she decided to go to bed. Surprisingly, she slept without any struggle. The next day, the first thing she woke up to was the ringing of her phone. She was going to decline the call, but remembered that no one calls so early in the morning for nothing, so she picked up. "Hello?" She said in a sleepy voice "Hi, Kehn
Author's POV "So how and when do we discuss everything? Do you already have an idea of how it's going to be?" He was certain, that to Kehna's father, took his offer as very spontaneous and uncomfortable to accept. "Sir, I-" "Don't address me like that, I'm not even older than you" he chuckled before answering. "Well, I'll try not to address you like that anymore. But we planned on making it small, I mean it's not something we should celebrate." He wasn't ready to give in and Mr. William wasn't ready to give up either. "If possible, we would appreciate it, if only family members could be there, but none of our families will be able to show up" the more he talked, the more curious Mr. William became. "Why wouldn't they come? I mean it's a serious matter, and it's probably the least they can do" he nodded. He was about to answer the question when Rachel appeared out of nowhere. "Sorry, t
Mr. William POV Mr. William on the phone, "Pablo! What did you say about the mission? It didn't go as planned, but no one died during the process, right?" a long silence processed "Pablo! Answer me!" "I'm sorry, Mr. William. But it wasn't our intention, we got a stranger instead of him" I took a deep breath and exhaled "Was that stranger a woman?" He hesitated before saying "Yes, sir she was, but you don't have to worry. We took her to the hospital and the doctor promised to say, nothing" "And you think that will do" I shouted out of my lungs. "Pablo, do you realize how much you messed up? I'm sure you know what the consequence is" "I'm very much, aware of that" I hung up having that said. It was already hard enough for me to convince my own daughter, now I had to think of a strategy to convince everyone else, till I've settled this case. And I know exactly how.
Kehna's POV It's been two days now, It's been two days since my dad burst into rage and since then we haven't exchanged a word with each other. My dad and I never had a father, daughter relationship, but when he arrived at the hospital and said those things he said, I felt like I'd been living with a stranger. Stella, Ruby, Mr. Garcia and the staffs were supposed to wait downstairs for us because, what my dad was going to discuss, with the so-called doctor was personal. I was hopelessly standing in front of the doctor's office waiting for my dad.Suddenly the guy I met in the cafeteria, came out of nowhere. "Hey, you're still here?" I was a bit shocked to see him. "Yeah, we still have a few things to settle" "Oh, I see! So... How are you feeling?" He asked in a very weird way, so I knew something wasn't right "You also heard my dad that day, didn't
