THE PROPHECY

CHAPTER TWO

Jaydon’s POV

The days that followed the first transformation were a blur of new experiences and emotions. I would wake up every morning and feel different, more in touch with the world around me, but at the same time, I couldn't reconcile it with my old life.

These words of Alex and the others were echoing in my mind: “I was part of something ancient, something much larger than myself.”

And I had a destiny to fulfill.

"Jaydon," Alex called out, his voice a steady anchor amidst my swirling thoughts. "Diana is ready to see you."

Diana, the pack's elder, was a figure shrouded in mystery and reverence. I heard eavesdropped earlier of unending praises of her wisdom and the depth of her knowledge, but meeting her face-to-face filled me with a mix of anticipation and unease.

It felt like the way Alex was leading me parted trees, acknowledgment of our passage humming through the air with almost tangible energy.

And there she was, in the middle of a clearing bathed in soft light filtering from the canopy— Diana. Surrounded by symbols etched into the earth, silver fur glinting as if in the moonlight, aged eyes still sharp and piercing.

"Welcome, Jaydon," she said to me, her voice bearing the weight of centuries. "Sit down with me."

I settled across from her, feeling the earth cool beneath me. The symbols around us pulsed faintly, a reminder of the power that ran through this place.

"You have questions," Diana said, her eyes locking onto mine. "And rightly so. Your transformation was not just a physical change but the awakening of your true self. You are the Alpha, destined to lead and protect our kind. But there is more you must understand.

“We werewolves were used as instruments of folklores and tales of any kind, but were ultimately passed to be a myth, nothing more, nothing less.

“Werewolves are of different races, and the different races have their origins different from one another.

“We have the Maledictus: the werewolf race born from the curse of a powerful witch; the Sanctis: divine wolves created by the ancient supernatural deity; the Ferox: Werewolves connected deeply to nature’s spirits and elemental forces and the list goes on.

“We wolves, though of different tribes, were ideally bound to live in harmony. It was so until the Nocturnus wolves turned against the natural order. Wielding their powers from dark rituals, they feast on humans to gain power and cross their hearts to good in order to wipe out every single werewolf race until they reign supreme.

“They are the reason why the deities separated the supernaturals from the common creations. But, the prophecy of the ancient times spoke of an Alpha who would bring balance back at all cost, and that Alpha is you.”

"It's more than a story, Jaydon," Diana spoke again. "It's our prophecy, a guiding light. You're the one chosen because of the strength, the bravery, and heart you have. And with that great power, comes great responsibility. You will have to be ready for the trials."

I listened, all ears but believing half. How the hell could I, just a regular guy, ever measure up? She read my mind, I suppose, because she leaned closer as I hesitated.

"Do not doubt yourself, Jaydon. The path will be difficult and you shall face many challenges. But remember you are not alone; the pack stands with you, and so do the spirits of our ancestors.

Alex, who had been standing silently nearby, stepped forward. "We will train you, Jaydon. Teach you everything you need to know. But first, you must accept your destiny."

I looked around at them all, and felt the weight of expectation. This was a lot to take in; the fear of failure gnawed within me. But deep down, a fire had been set. A will to protect my new family and live up to the legacy of the Alpha.

"I accept," I said finally, my voice steady. "I'll do whatever it takes."

Diana nodded, a glimmer of approval in her eyes. "Good. Then let us begin."

My training began in earnest over the coming days. In many aspects, Alex forced me to learn to control my transformations and harness what strength there was within me. We would spar in the moonlit forest, our movements a blur of speed and power. Each training session got tougher, and with each challenge, I became stronger.

However, it wasn't just physical. Diana taught me all about the spiritual side of our existence; she taught me how to become one with nature and the spirits of our ancestors. We spent hours meditating in the sacred glade, the symbols around us glowing softly as we connected with the world beyond.

We were in the glade one night when Diana told me more about the malevolent forces that threatened us. "There is an ancient enemy, a dark sorcerer who has long sought to destroy our kind. He commands powerful forces, creatures twisted by his magic. You will face him, Jaydon, and it will be the ultimate test of your strength and resolve."

It was daunting at the thought of such a foe, but at the same time, it fueled my determination. I had to be ready, not for me but the whole pack. The weight of the prophecy loomed over me like a shadow, yet I did not bend.

At this point in time, my connection with the pack became deeper. Alex grew to be way more than the mentor; he was a brother, the confidant who understood all of my struggles.

Maya, the pack's healer, showed me balance and compassion with her gentle nature, a soothing presence amidst chaos. Even Sky, who had been skeptical about my role the whole time, began to respect me for all he saw I was doing.

One evening, after one particularly grueling training session, Alex and I sat by a fire, the flames casting flickering shadows around us. "You're doing well, Jaydon," he said, his voice carrying a note of pride. "You have the makings of a great Alpha."

I appreciated his words, but I still felt the enormity of what lay ahead. "Do you ever worry, Alex? About what's coming?"

He looked into the fire, his expression contemplative. "Every day. But that's why we prepare. That's why we stand together. The strength of the pack is in our unity, and with you leading us, I believe we have a chance."

I felt his words resonate with me, for they confirmed the same bond that kept us connected.

Gazing at the flames, I had a feeling of purpose settling into place. Our journey was just starting, and in our way, there would be too many challenges to count.

However, I knew - positively sure - that I would face them head-on. There was a prophecy; the one by the fateful shadow wasn't looming, but this was a guiding light, a promise of what I could become. And as an Alpha, I'd make sure to protect my pack, come what may.
