I pace the short length of my room with my thoughts whirring furiously. I wish I saw wrong, but no, my eyes did not deceive me. I saw Aden in the castle as one of the king’s guards. I’m strung out tight with worry and disbelief and I stride to the door as I’ve done countless times, wanting to storm out of here and demand answers. As each time, my fingers curl with frustration and I let go of the door handle. I am nothing, no one in here. I definitely cannot storm into the king’s presence and question anyone.

I groan and drop my head into my hands. That hotheaded fool! What has he done?! Who asked him to follow me here like some lost puppy? Or a misguided knight in shining armour? At least the king will not be asking blood from him, I can console myself with that. He will be safe for now, he will blend in well with the rest of the guards until I can think of a way to get him out. I know the first place to start.

Maria is not at her huge library seat so I start looking around the

NeemMia corners me in the hallway, eyes glittering with excitement. “Where have you been?!” She asks, gripping my arm. I wince at her strength and sign. “Why, what’s going on?” “You’ve forgotten we are going to watch the execution have you?” Oh! I actually forgot about that. Somehow, my days have been pretty pre-occupied. I’ve been running from one thing to the other without pause. “That’s right. But the bell has not tolled.”“It will soon, silly. And if you want to avoid the stampede and get the front seat, you had better start coming.”I’m not sure I want the front seat, to be up close and personal with the person being hacked up. Mia on the other hand looks like it’s the front seat or nothing.Suddenly, there is loud tolling of bells that makes me wince and Mia claps her hands excitedly. “It’s time! Come on!”I change direction and follow Mia out to the arena. “What could the prisoner have done to warrant the death sentence?” I ask and she shrugs. “Who knows. He got on the

Celine“I heard.” I’m startled out of my revelry by the voice, familiar and unwanted. Derille joins me on the balcony overlooking the woods, looking as good as he ever did. Here in my father’s pack, I was notorious for my vices, including jumping from one sexy wolf’s bed to the next. Life was too good for the living for me and I wanted as much as I could taste in a go. Derille was one of the vices I kept coming back to. It was either the sexy smile that always turned me on or the insatiety of his hard cock. I always told myself I wouldn’t go back to him and I always went back on my promise. He chased after me relentlessly, addicted to me to a degree that even disgusted me. I take a long hard look at him now, waiting to feel the familiar stir of lust in my belly but all I feel is the gentle breeze on my cheek. I’m dry as a cactus. Finding my mate has ruined me for other males, a development I can work with. Compared to Lor’s skill, Derille is only a young pup. “You heard what?” I as

Celine“The demon wolf must be punished.” The wiry male says, practically vibrating on his feet. “He was welcomed as a guest to this pack and he has abused our hospitality to target one of our allies. What is his purpose if not to destroy our goodwill with the Night Jewel pack?”I stifle a groan. He is the ambassador from said pack and he dares a lot, standing before my father and demanding for Lor to be punished considering his scent reeks with fear and he hasn’t glanced at Lor for even a second.“I disagree.” I say, stepping forward. From the expression on his face, my father is surprised at my interception, and so is Annika but I can’t very well take my words back. “Derille was overstepping his boundaries as an old friend, disrespecting both me and my mate. Lor stepped in only to protect my dignity and he has every right to. In my opinion, Derille should fall on his knees and thank the goddess he didn’t punch his heart out of his chest. It is no secret how viscerally wolves react w

Celine“I have one condition.” I say as I blow into Lor’s chambers. He and Ken look like they were in the middle of a deep conversation and I grin at him. It’s always good to see Ken, and I know the feeling is reciprocated when he stands and drags me into a hug, despite Lor’s intimidating glare. Ken’s aura feels like that of the older brother I never had. “You look damn good.” He says appreciatively and I turn around in a circle for him. “My secret is inner peace and happiness.” I say and he snorts. “No wonder I can’t seem to hit. I’ll excuse you two.” He says and turns for the door. “Don’t say, but I think I saw Annika on the training ground” I call after him. He pauses and looks back at me and I smirk. I’ve seen his eyes glued to my sister since he came. If he was any more obvious, he would be humping her. Not surprisingly, I’m rooting for them. They could both use the distraction, even though Annika treats him with no little amount of disdain. He shakes his head and leaves an

EmmaFour hundred years agoI rinse off my hands and sigh, done with the last dish. My feet hurt from standing since dawn broke and when I look around and find none of the matrons, I think about sneaking back to my room and getting some sleep. I’ll be beaten for it later but how good it will feel. It will be worth it. I dry my hands and approach the back door on silent foot. I squeak in alarm when it slams in and Geirda’s girth fills the doorway. “Where were you sneaking off to, you wench?” She says and her palm smacks hard into my face. The force of the slap throws me against the wall and I clutch my cheek on fire and lower my eyes. “Nowhere.” I say, shaking. “Then get back in the kitchen and start cutting the vegetables.” “Yes ma’am.” I squeak and hurry back. When I grab the kitchen knife and the carrots, I wonder how easy it will be to sink it into her gut. She is the reason why my life is so hard here. Ever since Alpha Reenan dumped me in the kitchen and ordered her to give

EmmaThree hundred and ninety six years agoI watch from the shadows as they feast. Their laughters are loud and grating as they gorge themselves on the food I’ve spent the last few hours preparing. I no longer have the energy for resentment, I’ve fully accepted my life of servitude for now. Only a few years until my Shifting now, when I can fulfill my objective and leave. Over the years, I’ve researched everything I need to know about being a lone wolf. If is not a very comfortable lifestyle, seeing as how you have to be constantly watching your back. You are under the protection of no pack so you are easy picking for predators that may overpower you. And the most dangerous of them all, the high probability of going rogue. Without a pack’s support, even if it is one as terrible as this one, I am in danger of succumbing to the madness. And yet I will choose that life over the one I have here. I stare at Alpha Reenan, having to beat down my boiling hatred to a manageable level. I st

Emma Three hundred and ninety six years ago “That is enough.” Alpha Kristen says. “Father. That bitch just attempted to poison me to avenge her parents. Step aside.” Alpha Reenan says, rolling the sleeves of his blood-splattered white shirt up. “Have you forgotten yourself, Alpha Reenan? Look at her.” He steps aside and I peer at the lot of them through the slits that is left of my eyes. Lent has finally stepped forward to stand beside his family, staring down at me with an impassive expression. “She is not yet immortal, son, and she will die if you hit her one more time. Will you throw away everything you have worked so hard to build just to show some servant a lesson?” Alpha Reenan breathes heavily behind his father, peering at me with so much hatred my heart quakes. “The bitch fed me fish bones. I will be justified if I end her life for her insolence.” “You are right, such insolence must not go unchecked. Someone must be held accountable for the disaster of the evening.

EmmaThree hundred and ninety five years agoNot a single person is speaking to me in the kitchens any longer. It’s as if they blame me for the whole thing that happened to Gierda, how can they? I am the one that was unfairly framed and beaten within an inch of my life. I remember two days later when I was finally well enough to go to the kitchen. I grabbed Monica by her shirt and pulled her to a stop. “You are a liar and a coward. Why did you not tell the king the truth?” It wasn’t the rapport that Alpha Kristen advised me to have with the kitchen staff but I was boiling over with so much hatred I had to get that out of my chest. She was pale and shaky but her lips were pressed tight with stubbornness. The other wolves came in then and her eyes glittered as she sneered. “What truth? What are you talking about?”My jaw dropped. The insolence and shamelessness to look into my eyes and lie so blatantly. “You bitch! You are the one that got fishbone into the alpha’s meal. It is becau

I say, amused. "There are only fifteen."Our clothes in Lyria never had buttons and it's always amusing that something so simple always gives him so much trouble. "Might as well be a hundred." He mutters and shaking my head, I go to help. He stares down at me as I work one button to the next. "You are staring.""I can't help it, you're beautiful." He says and I smile. "One would think you were only seeing me for the first time.""It feels like that sometimes." He says. "Sometimes I wake up amazed to have you by my side.""Only sometimes?" I tease him and he laughs. "Come here." He pulls my lips to his and kisses me and I forget about the buttons as I hold on, revelling in the movement of his lips on mine. I moan when his tongue darts in to taste me and his hands clench conclusively on my ass. "D

Control them and end this wretched war.”She shakes her head. “It’s not that easy anymore. I was able to control them when my cat was dominant, when they absorbed my wolf. Someone donated her energy to bring back my wolf, but she neglected to mention that I would lose control of the soldiers when she is restored. I wouldn’t have it any other way anyway.”I sneer. “How pathetic. Of what use are you with your wolf then? You should sacrifice her to save hundreds of lives if need be but you are nothing but selfish as ever.”Her brows rise. “I’m not receiving a lecture on selflessness from you, am I? Now I have seen it all.”Behind us, Lor finally rips the king’s heart out with a roar. The war seems to stop for a second, everyone watching as he twists his head off his throat and sends it flying. Celine They are unending. It is as if the entire world has moved against the Island. My soldiers are not enough, and so people of Lyria have joined, fighting against the enemy but they are lacking in spirit. Perhaps because they have been broken down by the economy but they fall like corn stalk against the enemy. I keep soldiers on their leader constantly, but he is not the only one to be worried about. My soldiers tear into most of the soldiers before they have a chance to defend themselves but too many of them are experienced killers, cutting through our numbers in swaths. I glance behind me but the king and the Whisperer are now gone from their perch, and then finally the harpies are released. Terrible terrible creatures that can ice the blood in your veins with a touch. Where they go, death follows, immortals shrivelling up and dying in numbers. And yet more of their army comes. No. I look back, knowing I will not find him at he balcony he once occupied with his father and the Whisperer. My eyes meet his father’s and I wonder if he knows. My distraction costs me. Strong arms wrap around me from behind and I’m plastered hard against a male chest. “Stand back.” He orders the creatures, keeping them in front of us and me as a shield between them. They angle and pace, the front liners reluctant to attack and skewer me. “What do you think you are doing?” I grit out, trying to break out of his grip but he’s too strong. “You’re coming back with me.” He says, shuffling back. I burst into laughter, a little hysterical. “Are you daft as fuck? You want to leap through the barrier to freedom? The both of us will die before our next breath.”“I passed through the barrier to get here.” He says, his voice resolved. “By some freak accident. You will not be so

EmmaHe has grown so much in three days alone, this baby that has become my last surviving shield.“Dan!” I snap, heading to the balcony. “Yes, Emma.” She says from where she balances precariously on the ledge, not even bothering to look up. I thought the female stuck to my side because she had grown a soft side for me, as I have worked hard to lower her guard. I should have known better, she is an omega herself, an emotional fortress. Since the end of the three days that we raised Alaric, she has completely withdrawn, not even bothering to stand for any other person but the little brat. ”You said the three days were all we needed to ensure his survival.”“Yes. Your boy is stronger than a horse.” She says, raising her face to the sun. “Mama!” The culprit comes toddling out, holding chubby little hands out to me with a grin. I stare at him, my face going sour. “So why the hell does he still follow me around everywhere?!” I ask in dismay. I can’t look across a room without finding h

Neem“You found the source.” He says. His voice is cold and the way he is looking at me scares me. I affect a light tone. “Prince Ismir-““I cannot allow you to live.” Chills race down my spine and I laugh awkwardly. “What are you talking about?” I say, my voice pleading. I always knew my inquisitiveness would land me in trouble one day. I cannot believe the day is finally here. “Why do you always have to go around snooping and putting yourself in situations you have no business being in?”“I’m sorry!” I say, taking a step forward. “I’m sorry okay? This will never happen again.”“You are right, it won’t.” He says and then he shifts. I scream and dive to the side as he leaps, coming up on my knee and watching him nearly crash into the crystals. He sidesteps them in a precarious move in the last second and spins around, furious. I’ve never seen him shift, and for good reason, I realise. That is no wolf, he looks like he belongs amongst the deformities on the front line. He is thre

NeemI burst into the library, unconcerned about the racket I’m making as I race through the shelves to the back. Maria is reading a book and doesn’t bother to put it down. “Ordinarily, you should be banned from coming into the library.” She says placidly. “Outside.” I say urgently. “They are engaged in a fight. Celine and-““I know.” She cuts me off, not taking her eyes off the book. I gape at her. “You do? Then how can you be so calm?”“I am calm. I would recommend some to you too. What concern is it of mine if two idiots want to kill each other?”She’s right, she doesn’t give a fuck. She has said it enough times and yet she was the first person I thought of when I needed help.“I need your help.” I say and she finally puts the book down and pins with a stare piercing enough to make me squirm. “I see you got your tongue back.”“I need your help.” I say again, refusing to be redirected. “No.” She says, making me gape again. “No? Prince Ismir“How did he come through the barrier?” Father snarls, finally thrown off his feet by the unexpected happening. “I don’t know.” The Whisperer says, my first time hearing him utter those words. “It should be impossible.”Apparently not, if he’s right there. “What do you know about him?” I ask. There is something about him that has my hair standing on end. It is simply my most primitive instincts recognising a threat, a major one.“Nothing,” The Whisperer says. “But judging by his power and the fact that he entered the barrier unscathed, there are only a few people that come to mind. I believe that is her mate, the one commonly known as the demon wolf.”“What?” I say, startled out of the blue. Is that where the sense of familiarity comes from? Am I feeling her familiarity with him? “She does not look like she recognises him.” I say, tracing her location.“Not with the the amount of poison we had to pump into her system.” He says. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t ev

LorFor the umpteenth time, I put a hand on the barrier and it goes straight through. My hand curls into a tight fist and I punch it hard. Nothing. It is just air. The demarcation that shows the island of Lyria, a slight shimmer in the air is quite obvious if you know what you are looking for. Otherwise, your eyes would probably skip right over it. We have besieged this perimeter for two days now and to my frustration, we have nothing to show for it. Not a soul has stepped out of it, and neither can we step inside either. If I didn’t have a strong gut feeling that she is behind that barrier, I would have believed that it is all a conjecture of my deranged mind.Maddilla comes to a stop beside me and peers into the barrier. It is not just Bloodbound pack but nearly every damn pack this side of the world out here. There are more than a hundred and fifty packs here, each one of them as eager and enthusiastic to pierce the barrier of the island as the next. I didn’t have much convincing
