Chapter 6

Ambrose's POV

I gripped the wine cup with ferocious intensity, my teeth clenched in rage. The cup shattered in my hand, shards piercing my skin. The pain was nothing compared to the fury burning within me. Freya's audacity to raise her hand at me, simply because she was with Michael, was infuriating.

A sly smile spread across my face as I wondered how they had met. "I'll crush you both," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Just then, I heard the soft sound of footsteps. Composing myself, I plastered a smile on my face. After all, the host of a party shouldn't appear irritated.

"Ambrose," a familiar voice called out.

I turned to see Emma, her eyes red and puffy from crying. I had never liked Emma, but at that moment, I preferred to see her with Michael than Freya.

"The party's over, Emma. Why are you still here?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Emma approached me, her mascara-smudged face showing how much she had cried.

"Have you been crying?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Michael's gone," she said, her voice trembling. "That woman took him from me. I'll make her pay for humiliating me."

I laughed, raising my bruised hand to hers. "You see this? What I feel inside is far worse than these cuts."

Emma's eyes widened in surprise. "Did you two get into a fight again?" she asked, reminding me of our past. Michael and I had a history of fighting, and it hurt me to see Emma taking his side. I've always hated anyone who clings to Michael.

"Emma, this isn't important right now. I can help you get revenge. Michael has hurt and humiliated you. You deserve better," I said, trying to fuel her anger.

But instead, Emma's eyes filled with guilt. "Ambrose, I was the bad guy," she whispered.

I looked away, disgusted by her weakness. "No, Emma. Don't blame yourself for what happened five years ago. You ran away out of fear."

"Ambrose..I left him without a word...and,..I ..I never returned his calls nor his messages. Even when I left for Hungary, I never called him once. Ambrose you don't understand, he was hurting and I never cared. Sometimes, I feel I was actually the bad guy" she cried as I looked away, the problem with women, they were so stupid.

"So, you are the bad guy. Then I think you're paying for your crimes" I concluded, I didn't think she wanted to get back at them. She was going to ruin my plans anyways.

"Of course I hurt him, but don't you think Michael's going too far by falling inlove and getting married with a woman like that? I won't let a woman like that take what belongs to me. I will crush her and make life miserable for her" Emma said as I looked away.

A part of me felt so pained. Was it the fact that I was angry over Michael's marriage or the fact that she happened to be Freya. The only woman who will do anything for me before pleasing herself. She was so stupid that I really missed her stupidity. How did a woman like that happen to be the mother of my son?

"I want to see her pay . I want to see the marriage crumble. I know Michael still loves me. I feel it in me, that filthy bitch is the leech" she said as I smiled.

I smiled, a plan forming in my mind. "You're right, Emma. Michael's not in love with Freya. He only married her for the inheritance. When I'm done with my plans, you'll get your Michael back."

Emma's face lit up with determination.

"I'll make sure she pays." She said gritting her teeth before putting up a happy face.

"You have a cute looking son. His mother will be so lucky to have him" she said, showing a smile as I felt a pang in my chest. You don't wanna know the mother, I thought.

I watched Emma leave, as I took a deep breathe. I hadn't seen Waylen in a while. Right now, I think it high time I kept him locked away in the mansion. I never had any problem with confining and locking people; infact, it was a habit I'd grown accustomed to.

I took a deep breath, my mind racing with strategies. It was time to put my plans into action.

.......

Michael's POV

I sat in the car for ten minutes, the silence between us oppressive. I felt ashamed, having revealed my ugly side to this nosy woman. The last person I wanted to show that to was her. The fact that I'd asked her to stay with me creeps me the most. She might have gotten the wrong impression, and I needed to clarify everything.

"Miss Rogers, please forget what just happened. I wasn't in my right mind," I said, not looking at her face. There was nothing to see.

"I'm sorry about what happened. I'm really sorry. But I think it's time to move on," she replied, her words grating on my nerves. Was she intentionally trying to annoy me?

I couldn't shake off thoughts of Emma and how I'd dismissed her. She'd hurt me deeply, but I couldn't get her out of my head. Emma should be the one beside me, not this woman. But I couldn't go to her, not with Ambrose suspicious of my marriage.

"You don't get to tell me what to do," I snapped, cursing the rain for forcing me to spend time with this woman.

As the rain ceased, I breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out of the car. I spotted a branch that had fallen inside and retrieved my phone to dial Jason's number. My secretary answered promptly, and I waited for what felt like an eternity ;forty-five minutes for him to arrive.

When Jason finally showed up, I noticed the nosy woman had dozed off. I didn't bother examining her face; I'd never been drawn to brunettes. Emma, my first love, was the only one who had ever truly captured my attention. And I was determined to win her back; there was no point in pursuing anyone else.

"Boss, I'm sorry you got stuck in the rain," Jason said, as I ran my fingers through my blonde hair.

"No apologies necessary, Jason," I said, pointing at Freya. "My beautiful wife here should be the one apologizing for her questionable driving skills."

As I gestured, my hand momentarily caught on something, and for an instant, I thought I saw a different expression on Freya's face. But it must have been just a trick of the light.

Jason's eyes widened. "Michael, is your wife crying?"

As I gazed at Freya's face, I noticed two lines of tears trickling down her cheeks. I'd never been comfortable with seeing women cry. Freya, in particular, seemed like the epitome of happiness, making it seem all alarming. Was it all an act? Had she ever truly been happy?

Jason's presence reminded me to console her. "Freya," I called, the name feeling foreign on my lips. I'd never addressed her by her first name before.

"Is she alright? Did you two have a fight?" Jason asked.

"Of course not, Jason," I replied, feeling guilty for hiding the truth about my marriage from him. He was more than just a secretary. I carefully pulled Freya out of the car, carrying her to Jason's vehicle.

As I held her, she clung to my shirt, her grip tight. It was as if she was begging me never to let her go.

My chest constricted, and my heart racing accelerated. This feeling was unfamiliar, yet unsettling.

As I held her, she continued to cling to me, her grip tight. I gently placed my hand on her back, trying to comfort her with soothing pats. But my attempt at solace was interrupted by the name she whispered,

"Ambrose!"

I still couldn't pinpoint which trait he got from me. As I stood up, I realized I was wearing a completely different outfit. Confused, I glanced around the room. My gaze landed on the familiar portrait, confirming that I was indeed in Michael's room. But I wondered, had he changed my clothes? I pushed the thought aside, knowing he wasn't capable of such behavior. "Finally, she wakes," Michael said, emerging from the bathroom. I knew the truth was hard to swallow, but it was the only way for me to claim my inheritance ; the last thing I had left, at least until Emma's unexpected return. Jason's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowed in concern. "What if Grandpa demands a legitimate heir before handing everything over to you? What if he doesn't approve of your six-month divorce plan?" I let out a low, mirthless chuckle. "Enough of the what ifs," I said, my fingers drumming a restless rhythm on my thigh. "Do you think Grandpa bought the fabricated story about my marriage to Freya? I'm certain he saw right through it, even if he's pretending otherwise." Jason's expression turned thoughtful. "Why be so hard on yourself, then? And who knows, you might actually fall for this woman." He said as I burst out laughing at the absurdity of the suggestion. The idea was almost too ridiculous to consider. "Fall in love? Have I ever

Chapter 9 Michael's POV As soon as I read Grandpa's message, I sent a text to Jason. Given that everyone would be busy preparing for dinner, there was no need to track Ambrose today. That task would have to wait until tomorrow. I waited for what felt like an eternity before Freya finally walked into the house. I couldn't help but wonder where she had gone without a car. I gazed out the window, catching a glimpse of her face, they weren't the usual face she carried. I looked away as I glanced at my phone [7:49]. I still couldn't get my mind off the name she had called that night. If I could think correctly, she was calling the name in her sleep with tears in her eyes. "Mr. Smith," I heard her voice, which snapped me out of my thoughts as she knocked on the door before entering. My gaze rested on the short denim skirt she wore, and that was definitely the first time I saw her dressed that way. Well, I wouldn't call it attractive ; at least, not to me. He had already threatened to oppress me tonight if I didn't hold his hand. But my mind was fixed: I would make my son recognize me, even without joining hands with him. But I couldn't understand why my heart shattered again the moment Michael caught Emma from falling. I swallowed a large lump of saliva. At that instant, I felt stupid as I gulped my drink. "Oh, I'm so sorry. Sorry I slipped...I...am sorry," Emma said shakily before walking swiftly away. I knew she made it all up. Michael had done nothing wrong; we weren't in love, nor were we committed to each other. But why did I feel cheated on? I wasn't in love with him, was I? No, not again, not a billionaire again, and certainly not Ambrose's brother. Alexis finally broke the silence. "What was that, cousin?" But I couldn't muster the

He didn't seem embarrassed or shy, which only confused me. I thought love was supposed to make you vulnerable and self-conscious."And...we were wrong to have...done this," he said, his voice trailing off. His words cut deep, and I felt a pang of disappointment. Didn't he realize I wasn't angry about what happened? Didn't he see that I wanted more?"Yea, I'm sorry too," I said, meeting his gaze.
