Selene's POV
I sat quietly under the tree lost in my thoughts and only turned when Riven tapped me. “I've trying to get your attention, but it seems you were thinking of something else. What's bothering you?” he asked sitting next to me. I sighed wondering if I should just escape the question or simply say I was tired. “Where do you think those twenty rogues will be? Do you think they would have been caught?” Riven shrugged hitting my shoulder lightly. “Why are you bothered about them. They made their decisions. They were arrogant looking down on you. So, I careless about them right from.” “Oh come on Riven. You shouldn't say that. They were only scared. They've been in pain, and we're not just patient enough. That's all I see. I don't blame them, they were just desperate to have revenge.” I muttered. Riven picked up a stone throwing it playfully. “So any plans? Because according to Caleb, Bryan will be attacking in two days. Have you thought of a way forward?” I nodded though unsure. “Remember the rogue you told me about. The one with an abandoned pack filled with rogues.” Riven Express suddenly changed. He shook his head refusing my idea instantly. “But why? Just imagine we go to him, he could help us. Besides, it's a win-win for both sides if Bryan is defeated.” I tried to reason with him. Riven refused the idea still. “Even Bryan will think twice to attack that man. He's crazy. Only gives a fuck about his people. As long as Bryan doesn't disturb him he won't disturb Bryan either. It's like an agreement from both sides, so I doubt that idea of yours is going to work.” he diverted his gaze. His warm expression gone. Silas and Dara approached us. Dara gave Riven a killer stare. “Why did you bring her out alone? What are you doing?” she demanded eyeing him suspiciously. Riven was in no mood for jokes, he told them what I was up to immediately, and they also refused. “Come on guys, you have to tell me why. You can't just say no and hide things from me, how do you persuade me that way?” I looked at their faces one by one. They were holding back, so definitely they were hiding some truth. “Riven had an encounter with him once, but he's barely escaped with his life.” Dara began. “I thought he helps rogues. Isn't he one too?” Dara nodded. “Yes he is a rogue and according to what we all heard, he was banished by his father since he was still a young boy.” The revelation shocked me to the core. Why would a father banish his young son? How does he expect him to survive alone? “He's name is Caius, but he prefers to be called Dark, a name he gave himself and lived to its reputation.” Dara continued. “Dark is surrounded by an army of rogues. There are no weak or old. Thinking of going to him is like approaching your death. Dark is merciless especially to women. He gives them to his rogue soldiers to have fun with.” Dara's explanation sent a cold chill down my spine. I was suddenly having second thoughts, but how do we fight against Bryan when we are just four? It feels impossible, but there was nothing wrong In trying. Dara stared at my face with a sigh. “You still don't understand who this man is with my explanation. He won't spare us if we trespass.” “We aren't trespassing, we are going there willingly to see him. And I have just the perfect plan to convince him.” “Convince him?” Riven who had been silent since finally spoke up. “I'll go wherever Selene choose to. I believe in her.” Silas said, and they looked at him like he had just betrayed them. Dara muttered in a low tone. “You should know Riven can't come with us.” I nodded. “I'll think of something. But I want us to leave quickly. Let's leave tonight, who is in?” Dara and Riven looked at each other with hesitance. Silas declared he was ready. Dara and Riven let out a deep sigh before declaring they were ready too. “But make sure your plan is superb. Dark is not someone to joke with.” Riven said he's normal warm demeanor retuning. I felt stronger with their support. To be honest, my idea was a brutal one. But as it seems, it was the option we had. ****** At night, we left for Dark's territory. We slept on our way as the journey was far. Finally, at dawn. We reached Dark's territory. The place flooded with rough-looking rogue. Their sights were scary. I swallowed hard. “Are we going now?” Dara asked. I brought out the clothes in the bag handing it over to Dara. ”What for?“ she whispered. Dark doesn't take women. The best was to go in disguise. “And you are suggesting that?” Dara stared at me in disbelief. Riven and Silas grinned, trying to hide their laughter. Dara shot them a hard glare and turned to me. ”We don't have a choice Dara, this is our only solution." She reluctantly stood up and left to change. ****** “What do you want?“ Bryan asked Mathew. ”Why have you returned?“ Mathew gave him a shocking expression and chuckled. ”Don't I belong here anymore? Am I no longer welcomed?“ ”You should watch your tongue then. I'll be attacking the eastern packs and expanding our territory. You should sit back and watch me don't stir trouble.” Bryan warned. Mathew looked at him amused. "When is this attack?“ Bryan was reluctant, he knows the kind of person he calls brother what he's capable of, but Mathew will find out anyway. ”it's in two days.“ Bryan replied.Selene's POV“So?” Dara came out with a frown.Riven burst into laughter. Silas grinned secretly.“What is it?” Dara groaned, eyeing them.“You look like those manly cruel soldiers. You look even scarier now." Riven said amidst laughter. Dara raised her fist threatening to hit him. He stood up running to hide behind me.”Hey, I still need to change. We need to get this over with quickly. We have little time left.“ Dara withdrew her fist, she still had that unsatisfied look on her face.I returned a few minutes later in men's clothing. That was the plan, to dress like a man.”So how is it?“Riven exclaimed in a dramatic way. ”You still look pretty even as a man. Perhaps we add a mustache. Dark's men might start to make passes on you.“I furrowed my brows. ”Am I not convincing enough as a man now?“Riven shook his head. He searched through his bag bringing out a rough mustache.”Why do you have that?“”I sometimes change my identity too.“ he smiled, placing the mustache on his philtr
Selene POV The four men ran as fast as they could. Dark released the first arrow, it struck one at his back and he fell dead. He released the second, it hit one on his leg. Despite that he continued to run towards the door, his freedom. My fist clenched tightly, my nails digging Into my palm. The room was large and so the door was far from where the men started to run. I finally understood why Riven was fully against us coming here. This man was really nothing but a heartless monster. He released the third arrow at the second man who was running despite the hit on his leg. The arrow struck the back of his head coming out through the front. I wanted to step forward, but Dara's grip on me tightened. I just couldn't watch him treat these men this way. What was their offense? Dark had a wide smile enjoying his cruelty. His men laughed at the way the remaining two men ran. They ran like chickens for their life. Dark struck the third man and just when he released the f
Selene POVWe were given some clothes, more like a uniform, to put on. A symbol to show we were now one of Dark's members was imprinted on our arm. “You all will share this room. Wake as early as six for morning exercise. Go to the cafeteria and take your food by 8 then training starts from 10 until 4." Jaxon said, and we nodded in understanding. The moment Jaxon left, Dara breathed out exasperatedly. She quickly pulled out the clothes from her chest. ” Woah, finally it feels good to be free. I almost pulled everything out before Dark.“ she muttered, walking towards the window. She let her hair down, taking in the cold breeze.Riven looked around the room, there were four bunkers. Two on the left and two on the right. He sat on one of the beds by the left, his head bent in worry. He sighed out, rubbing his face with his palm before looking up at me. Silas also went to sit on one of the bunkers. They all looked down, and worried.”We never intended to stay, Selene. This is all messe
Caius (Dark) POVRuthless, evil, monster. What other names haven't I been called?I walked in the midst of dead bodies unfazed. With a strike from my claws I sent heads rolling.Everyone fears me, Alphas tremble at the mention of my name. No one dares say a word without my permission when I'm in the room.I installed fear in the hearts of people but surprisingly, one man was able to stand up to me. Even dared to look me straight in the eye. While his friends trembled, he remained standing with no fear in his eye.He looks timid, but with a heart of stone.Cutting a man's cock and dipping it in his mouth? How wonderful. My room was connected to my library, a place no one was allowed to walk into. The library was a place I come to clear my head whenever I'm in need of silence.I perceived a presence, my wolf knew someone was here too. The person back was turned to me and not until he turned in my direction and I caught a glimpse of tears slipping from his eyes.“What was Sal doing her
Selene's POV Everyone turned to face me, their faces filled with curiosity. “What is it?” Dara asked, her voice sounding eager. I smiled, “Dark has agreed to help. He's sending men to fight with us, but......." "Did something else happen?" Riven said with worry. I shook my head looking up to him. " He I’ll be leading them.” Silas blinked, stunned. “Wait, he agreed? Just like that?” I shook my head. “Yes he did, I was surprised too." “Or he saw something in you,” Riven muttered under his breath, barely audible, but I caught it. My eyes met his, but he quickly looked away, pretending to focus on something else. His hands fiddled with the edge of the book he’d used to fan me moments ago. “I know it sounds unbelievable,” I continued, “but this is our chance. We’ll hit Bryan’s forces before they gain any more ground. We’re not just protecting the eastern packs… we’re protecting every rogue who's ever had to hide or run.” Dara’s face lit up with pride. “You were amazin
Selene's POV“Sit.” Lady Havana ordered with a short smile.I did as was told, stylishly looking around the room. Plus her sudden kindness and warm smiles through out made me feel weird.I just do not feel myself around her. I'm even more scared of her than Dark. She was seated in front of a round table under a tree outside her large quarters. She had a portion of the territory to herself. I guess Dark respects his mother a lot anyway.“So, you said your name is Sal. Right?” she asked why she poured tea from the kettle in her hand into the small cup in front of me.“Yes ma'am.” I replied.“Please, go ahead.” she muttered. I was skeptical about taking the tea at first, I glanced at her, she still had that same warm smile.I quickly took the cup, blew air round the surface and took a sip. Then I forced a small smile, muttering a thank you as I placed the cup back on the table.Lady Havana stared at me for a while. She looked as if she wanted to see beneath me. I was feeling very uncomf
Selene's POVI returned to the room. Dara and the others had a worried look on their faces. Riven was the first to approach me as I entered. He made sure to look at me from head to toe to ensure I was alright.“Did she try to do anything?” Dara asked.I turned to her with an exhausted expression. Then I shook my head. “No, she only wanted to talk over tea.” I muttered, dragging my feet towards the bunkers.“What did you guys talk about?” Riven asked and I shrugged. “Something silly. She claimed that she wanted to find out what Dark sees in me.” I muttered a thank you as Silas stood up for me to lie on the bed below. I couldn't climb to the bed above.I fell heavily on it, sighing exasperatedly.I didn't realize I slept off not until a few hours later when Riven woke me up. “Selene, we need to get ready. It's almost sunset.” I quickly sprang up from the bed. Shaking my head trying to keep myself awake. Dara and Silas were also ready. I was the only one left. I hurriedly got up a
Selene's POVA fight started between the both of us. Bryan was strong in terms of strength. He could over power me with his large physique. But I was smart. I knew most of his attacks. I've watched him fight, waiting for a day like this.I got a moment of distraction and pricked his neck with a small needle.“What have you done?” he muttered, trying to step forward but fell to the ground instead. He could not move his body. “That needle is poisoned. You won't be able to move your body, you'll be paralyzed for a short while.” I looked down at him where he fell helplessly.“What pack are you from? Who sent you?” I crouched down and whispered. “I belong to no pack. No one controls me. You should be glad I don't intend on shedding blood today. Else, your blood will be the first on my blade.” I brought out a small knife, pointing the sharp edge to his throat.“You can kill me now. Why don't you?” I grinned. “Death is too simple for someone like you. I want you to suffer, and you'll be
Selene's POV The mate selection, such an interesting time of the year as I've heard the men talk about.Dark's men were more like soldiers; they trained and fought, having little time for women. Then, his mother brought up the suggestion of inviting every maiden around for a grand bouquet once a year. It worked, and most of Dark’s men found their mates in this bouquet. But for Dark, it was different. He never found a mate.I sat before Dara and Silas. Riven had gone to see Dark after he was called. Luckily, I arrived just in time—right when Jaxon was about to pass a sentence on the three of them. Jaxon was about to have me caught, and just then, Dark walked in and saved me.Throughout the night, I explained to Dara, Silas, and Riven that nothing had transpired between Dark and me. I couldn’t tell them about Dark’s strange behavior. I only said he got injured, and curiosity had led me to follow him. The story was hard to piece together, especially with the questions they threw at me,
Dark’s POVSal entered the water with me. At first, he was reluctant, staring at me like something forbidden.“Aren’t you going to take your bath too?”“No, I won’t. I’ll just wait till I return to my room. I’m okay this way.” He forced a smile, one I could clearly see didn’t reach his eyes.A few hours later, after eating the little fruit Sal had plucked from the trees around, and then the meat he had caught and we roasted—He was very good at hunting. I’ll give him that.Night came. He sat a few meters away from me, just staring into the sky.“You didn’t ask what made me go rogue a day ago,” I muttered.“It’s not in my position to ask questions. I am merely your assistant and nothing more.”I scoffed at his reply. He was obviously being sarcastic right now. “Even your words sound like you’re pushing yourself not to ask. Your left arm—was I the one?”He covered the arm with his palm, looking downward.“I hope it leaves a mark, for you to always remember never to step closer next time
Selene's POVSo soft.I twirled to a comfortable position and hummed in satisfaction. He smelt warm, the kind of scent that made you want to lean in without meaning to. My eyelids opened slowly, and I almost screamed at the sight before me.Dark was looking straight at me, and my head was resting on his chest. I blinked profusely—perhaps it was just a bad dream.“You seemed to have had a nice sleep,” he grinned.Embarrassment hit me hard. It definitely was reality and not a dream. My head was fucking resting on Dark's chest.I felt like the ground should split open in two and swallow me whole.Quickly, I arranged my hair and fake mustache. I hoped I didn't snore and neither did he figure out anything.“You seem to enjoy sleeping on a man, Sal.”I shook my head in response and stood up, bowing halfway. “I am sorry for any inconveniences caused. I must've fallen asleep after the stress last night.”I had no idea if the last part was necessary, but Dark had actually stressed me. I could
Selene POVDark suddenly asked everyone out. I had thought it was one of his crazy sides. Although, it was my first time seeing him that scary.Dark had ordered me to leave after asking where I came from.Sighs. I can't tell him anything, and besides, I'm still under a fake identity. We waited outside behind the door for minutes. No sound from inside, and neither was he coming out. No one wanted to go in—everyone was scared. For their lives.I glanced at the guards and Dark's few men, but the moment our eyes met, they diverted their gaze.I decided to go in—something kept pushing me to go.I pushed open the door and peeped through. Then, I saw someone leaving the palace through another door behind his chair.I recognized it was Dark from his back. I rushed after him, taking the same path as him. Who would believe there is a secret passage inside Dark's palace? But why has he come here? Does he secretly visit somewhere? My brows furrowed and I wiped the bead of sweat from my face.I mo
Caius (Dark's) POVI stepped out of the bathroom expecting to see him. I thought he had left not until I went to check my clothes then I saw him standing before the mirror. Testing my clothes on him with different poses. I tried hard to suppress my chuckle.Sal never ceased to amuse me. He tried on one of my caps and gave a sweet smile. I could barely take my eyes off it. Then he added one of my glasses. I shook my head watching him, mesmerized by his boldness. “Are you done?” I said, and he almost screamed seeing me, surprised.I only had a towel tied to my waist, but my hair was still dripping. I wasn't on my eye patch this time. He stared at me and I had to step closer, snapping my finger in his face bringing him back to reality.“Are you into men?” I had to ask because the way he stared was alarming. He suddenly turned his gaze downwards. “Forgive me, Dark.”“The clothes.” I ordered. He gave them to me, and I was still standing. “Are you going to watch me get dressed?” He qu
Selene's POV“We don't get to see her this way. She looks funny.” Riven chuckled.I rested my head on Dara's shoulder , completely drunk. Dara smiled, stared at my face and then at Riven.“You shouldn't chase her away with your feelings.” Dara muttered to him.Riven raised his brow at her like he didn't understand what she meant.“I know you have feelings for her. But don't be hard on her. She is only trying her best to keep us safe. You can see how much she's trying to handle Dark.”Riven poured himself a drink and gulped it down. “I don't know what you are talking about.”Dara shook her head. “How do you feel when you see her around Dark?” Riven clutched the cup in his hand tightly.Dara sighed, “See? It makes you want to kill him. You have feelings for Selene, Dark, and I wouldn't want you to hurt her because of it.”He banged the cup on the table, raising his head to look at Dara. “There is no way I will ever hurt Selene. I can't do that.”“But yes, you are. Being grumpy and frus
Selene's POV I followed Jaxon to Dark's room in anticipation. Some part of me was excited to see him. Perhaps it's because I couldn't wait to let him know of my win. But of course, he must've been informed already.“Wait here, he'll join you shortly.” Jaxon said when we got to his room. I waited in the outer room because there was a room before his main room.Dark stepped out after I waited for a few minutes. His beautiful pair of blue eyes fell on him. I didn't realize I was still standing when he offered me a seat.“So, you won,” he said like he hadn't expected that.“Yes, Dark.” He nodded. “Congratulations. Bryan would rest a bit from war. You can worry less now.” he said and I nodded.“What do you intend to do now? Are you and your friends leaving?” I shook my head in reply. “We want to train under your men to become better and stronger. If you permit, we would like to stay in your territory.” “That's fine,” he said immediately. He was quiet for a while, leaning back in his c
