CONNOR
“Yo, Connor! You’re late dude!” Leonard called as I walked into the auditorium for our music rehearsal. I headed towards the stage, with my hands in the pockets of my leather jacket and a smirk on my face. He looked at me with an eyebrow raised, probably wondering what my smirk was all about.
“What did you do?” he asked. I shrugged my shoulders and grabbed my electric guitar, passing my hands softly against it.
“She accepted to be my girlfriend,” I replied, a sudden happiness taking over my body. Putting the strap around my neck, I touched the strings and started to play.
Today, I asked Ximena to be my girlfriend. I was a bit skeptical, me being human in a wolf pack, it was really hard to find someone to fall in love with you. They all chose a mate, but I was a lucky guy.
“Are you sure you want this, man? I mean when we all turn eighteen, we are going to find a mate, and we’re not sure if you’re her real mate,” he said, concerned.
“You know I don’t really care about that. We like each other and we plan on staying together,” I replied, resuming the music. Leonard joined with his drums, not saying another word.
When I was ten years old, my parents and I moved to this town, not knowing it was a wolf pack at first. They received us with open arms. It was a total shock when we found out, but it turned out not to be a big deal. Dad had to pass a series of tests, which for a human was hard, but he successfully got through all of them, earning the respect of the pack and even the Alpha.
Alpha Jedrick and Luna Adira were strict, but kind. They made sure we stayed safe since we were the only humans here. Well, except for Margery and her family who were Wizards and Witches. They were a good addition since they helped them defend themselves against enemy packs.
“Well, don’t come crying to me when she finds her mate. It won’t be easy fighting against a wolf for a girl’s love.”
I turned my back on him, ignoring the words that kept coming from his mouth while rolling my eyes in annoyance. Leonard took the hint and decided to keep quiet. We both resumed our music until we heard the door open and Ximena walked in, as beautiful as ever. She was just like a porcelain doll, delicate and adorable.
Blonde hair, big blue eyes and luscious lips were the highlight of her existence. She was the sweetest girl in this place and I was glad she was mine. I wasn’t sure for how long I stared at her, when I saw Leonard waving his hand in front of me.
“You are whipped, dude. She really has you hooked,” he stated, and I nodded. There was no point in denying it, I had the prettiest girl in the whole school as my girlfriend.
“Hello, Connor,” she greeted from the bottom of the stage, her pearly whites showing and her eyes glimmering with the light of the afternoon sun that snuck in through the auditorium window. I didn’t even bother using the stairs to get off the stage, so I jumped down and took her in my arms, kissing her cheek.
“Hello, beautiful. Ready to go home?” I asked, putting my forehead against hers before I kissed her lips softly. We pulled away and I noticed her looking at Leonard.
“Hi, Leonard. Hope you’re also doing okay,” she greeted him. He looked at her with an acknowledging nod and walked back to his drums, sitting in the small stool and resuming the music. It was really strange to see them looking at each other, but I ignored it.
“Shall we go?” I asked, extending my arm to show her the way. Giving Leonard one more glance, she looked at me and with a soft smile, she walked ahead. We finally made it outside of school grounds and towards my car, a black ‘96 Pontiac Firebird that my father used to own.
“How about we go grab something to eat. I’m starving,” I said, opening my car door to let her in. Walking around, I got into the driver’s seat and turned the ignition on, backing up the school parking lot and driving off. The ride was mostly silent, but there was still that curiosity itching to be scratched.
“Why were you looking at Leonard the way you were?” I asked. Ximena’s head turned towards me and her eyes were wide open in surprise.
“Looking at him like what?”
“Like you like him,” I replied, taking my eyes off the road for a second to look at her, “Ximena, you accepted to be my girlfriend this morning. Why do I feel like it was all a mistake?”
Ximena grabbed my hand and with her other hand, she pulled back a strand of hair that fell on my forehead before caressing my cheek.
“It was not a mistake. I like you Connor, and I always looked forward to being your girlfriend,” she replied, smiling at me. I knew she wanted to reassure me, but what Leonard told me was not leaving my mind. He was right, as soon as they turned eighteen, it might all change.
Unless she rejects whoever is her mate and chooses me. Holding my hand, she looked out the window, admiring the nature. I knew she was lost in thought, but I would not push the issue any further. I wanted her to be comfortable and happy with me.We arrived at her favorite restaurant and I parked right in front of it, getting out to open the door for her. As she got out of the car, she kissed my lips before walking inside, bringing a smile on my face while closing the car door and heading in.
We sat on a booth in the corner, by the floor to ceiling window and enjoyed each other’s company. Ximena grabbed my hand once again and rubbed my knuckles lovingly, looking at me under hooded eyes. She surely made my heart beat fast.
“What do you want to eat?” I asked, opening the menu with my free hand and scanning the laminated pages.
“I’m craving some steak and salad. Ruelle is very hungry,” she replied, letting out a sudden low growl. I knew it was her wolf letting us know how hungry she was. We both kept looking at the menu when Mildred, our waitress approached us.
“Good evening, kids. What can I get for you today?” She greeted us with a sweet smile. We gave her our drink and food orders, Ximena opting for the steak and salad and I ordered a plate with Shrimp and Pasta. Mildred walked away and I leaned against the table, holding Ximena’s hand.
“What are you doing? Are you going to act all cheesy with me?” she joked, making me laugh.
“No, I’m not. I was just thinking.”
“Connor, don’t think too much, okay? If I ever get a mate, I will definitely reject him so you and I can be together, don’t worry about it,” she said. For some reason I was not believing it. I knew how this worked.
“Of course, I’m not really worried,” I replied as I rubbed her palm, feeling an angry growl from Ruelle. She had been growling at me since I asked Ximena to be my girlfriend, but I just wanted to ignore it. It was gettin louder with each touch and kiss we gave each other, and every time, Ximena would give me an apologetic look.
Mildred arrived with the food and as we were about to eat our meal, everyone’s phones went off at the same time. That only meant one thing, the Alpha wanted to gather every member of the pack.
“That’s weird. This message seems urgent, I wonder what it is?” Ximena asked. I didn’t have time to think about it when I was getting up from the booth, dropping a few dollars on the table and extending my hand to her.
“Only one way to find out. Let’s go,” I replied. We walked out of the restaurant and into my car, driving towards the pack house. It must be something important. I just hoped it was not bad news. Swerving through traffic, Ximena was holding on to the console in the middle, her nails elongated, scratching the leather cover.
“Slow down, Connor!” she screamed.
“Sorry, but we have to get there.”
As soon as we arrived, she didn’t wait for me to open the door before she did it herself and headed towards the pack house. I couldn’t even apologize for scaring her like that. Bad idea, Connor. I walked towards the house and dad was already there with mom, waiting for me.
“What’s going on, dad?” I asked as I looked around and all the pack members were murmuring with each other. He was about to answer, but Alpha Jedrick appeared at the top of the stairs.
“Good evening everyone. I apologize to you all for calling you on such short notice, but I have news to share with you. There will be a new addition to the pack, and just a few hours ago they arrived. I waited until they got settled before I gave you all the news. Students will have a new principal, and he moved up here with his family, so I would love for you all to welcome The Morales family.”
They all turned around, when the family Alpha Jedrick mentioned stood by the door. My heart skipped a beat as soon as they met those gray eyes, looking straight at me.
ZAIRE A baby’s cry was heard as she was carried through the woods by a mysterious man in a hooded cloak. The moonlight shining his path, leading him away from the pack and everything that baby might know. The man reached the edge of the woods, outside of pack lands and a black car waited for him on the side of the road.
CONNOR I saw her walk out to one of the balconies and I wanted to follow her. Her family was enjoying the party and they mingled with the guests as if they knew them for a while. I wasn’t sure what it was, but as soon as I saw her eyes, something was telling me I should get to know her. But, should I? I was confused, not knowing what to do.
ZAIREI walked inside to join my family. Meeting Connor and Ximena was just a bit awkward for me, not to mention how annoying that growli
CONNORWe arrived at Ximena’s house and I parked the car on her driveway, turning the ignition off. There was an uncomfortable silence between us, and I didn’t know where to start.“Ximena…”
ZAIREI woke up early this morning, not even realizing at what time I had fallen asleep. With everything that happened yesterday, I was really exhausted. I looked to the side and the books were still scattered all over the floor. Why didn’t I just pick it up last night?
CONNOR It was already night and I was in the woods near Ximena’s house, waiting for her. She agreed to meet with me, but made it clear she was not happy about what I did. I leaned against a ma
ZAIREMy whole body was aching, and all I wanted was to sleep. But I also wanted to go to school and meet new people. Mom was preparing pancakes today, Daniel’s favorite thing.
