My eyes were fixated on my hand as I worked to gather the few things my parents kept secret in their bedroom. I was a very feeble person, hurting me wasn't hard to do. However, I was quite confused by the way that Julian had reacted," what... uh why did you bite me like that?"
He sat on a small chair in their room,"the scent of your blood called to me. It tasted like the sweetest of candies... Eloise are both of your parents werewolves? Is there anybody in your bloodline that has mixed origins?"
Julian's face grew serious and I shook my head quickly," no, my family has been indentured servants for generations. I don't know much about my first ancestors here, only that they owe a debt my family will never be able to repay. Whatever they did was so bad that the Alpha and Luna aren't even allowed to speak of it."
He studied me hard before gracefully getting to his feet and pulling me closer to him again," you know a vampire saying your blood tastes like candy is a big compliment." I gave a small whimper and closed my eyes as his lips touched my earlobe," it's not something we say to everybody."
"N-No, I uh.. I didn't know that," my voice sounded so weak. How was he managing to keep making me feel this way? Nobody had incited these emotions from me. The room was hit thickly with my scent of arousal, just making me feel shameful. I had never felt worth being desired. This all felt like too much.
Julian inhaled my sent deeply and purred," we should pack." He spoke sounding as if he was trying to convince himself. He pulled away and I crossed the room trying to ignore how uncomfortable my underwear now felt on me.
I stared at my mother's vanity with the broken mirror. It had been passed down from my grandparents. The mirror broke one day when I had fought her while she brushed my hair, flailing my arms. I don't think I had been punished as severely by my parents as I had then. My bruised fingers gently searched underneath, a tiny lock clicking. I quickly grabbed the faded looking photographs and very faded family tree. Once I was gone they would be worthless. There were no other parts of my family alive and once my parents passed away they would just be tossed away.
Julian removed his cloak, draping it over me. Something about his gaze seemed different, but I didn't find it worth asking about.
"I'll transform and hide inside the cloak. Try making it to the well on the east side of town without getting caught. Depending on how long it takes... we may end up getting caught in the beginning of the invasion. Whatever you do, try to stay calm," his tone stayed gentle and he placed his hands on my shoulders.
"I'll be with you the whole time. I promise to keep you safe Eloise," he added quickly, stepping back long enough to disappear in black smoke. Learning from his mistake last time he quickly soared into the cloak, nestling himself onto my back and staying hidden. Something in the way he spoke made my heart flutter. I hesitated, looking around at the house that barely brought me any sort of comfort.
Finally I was going to be free.
-----------------------------------
My pace was quick, not wanting to bring any unnecessary attention. Nobody in my pack wore cloaks so I was already receiving stares from people on the street. The only thing keeping me calm was knowing Julian was attached to me, and the thought of what a new life would be like.
I tried sticking to the back roads and alleyways as much as possible but it made it hard to be quick. The town bells began sounding, signifying that it was 3 o'clock already. The invasion would likely begin any moment. The sound of children's voices rang out and I froze in place. The schools were letting out, which meant that Delmar would likely be near. Julian started squeaking at me, as if saying I needed to hurry up. I couldn't make myself move. I was too overcome by fear of being caught. There's no way Julian could defend me in direct sunlight, especially against a werewolf with alpha blood.I was trapped in my thoughts, beginning to shake. My arms shot up and hugged my body as my knees threatened to buckle. Julian started nipping at my shoulder but it was all in vain. I could only move myself to the shadows of the alley and try to wait it out."Eloise what are you doing? We have to move! They'll be here-" Julian's voice was cut off as a ground shaking blast was heard. I had been so absorbed in fear I hadn't even noticed him crawl out of the cloak. He stood flat against the wall, breathing heavily showing how mortified he was of sunlight. I had to snap out of it!Screaming erupted followed by the sounds of gnashing teeth and growling. Gerwulf's troops were wasting no time in causing complete chaos in the town. Julian was yelling at me, but I could barely hear it. It was like my ears were covered.Somebody entered the alleyway trying to seek refuge in all the chaos. In that moment Julian stopped speaking.Everything happened so quickly I almost couldn't process it. His lips curled back and his fangs extended as his bright yellow eyes lit up. The body of a sandy colored wolf came hurling towards us. I recognized that wolf, it was Delmar. He must've picked up on the scent of a vampire which lead to him finding us.Julian lunged back, forgetting the safety of the shadows. He clawed and tossed Delmar like a ragdoll. His clothing was smoking, his exposed skin was burning and painfully blistering. I realized just how powerful he had to be. Most vampires would just turn to ash within minutes. He eventually manged to overpower Delmar sending him to slam hard into a wall. He'd been knocked unconscious.
I managed to snap out of it, reality finally hitting me. Julian was injured and badly. I had to get him to safety, fast. I ran to him, helping him into the shadows once more. Ragged breaths escaped him as he doubled over in pain. His body was covered in gashes and his skin was seared.I steadied my shaking hands, moving his chin to force him to look at me," shift! I'll run the rest of the way." He hesiated shifting, his bat looking just as bad. I picked him up, this time placing him into my backpack. He seemed so weak that I was afraid he'd die while I ran. I carefully zipped the bag and took off.My body was so malnourished that I was barely faster than a human. I pushed myself passed the pain. Tears began falling from my eyes as my body screamed at me. Something deep down inside of me wanted badly to protect this man just like he had protected me.Just when I was thinking of giving up, strong arms grabbed me and began speeding. Loud howling echoed through the squares as wolves formed a circle around us, guiding us passed the well and quickly into the thick woods. My vision was blurring with tears and I was speaking in a hysterical manner as the stranger carried me. I could only repeat Julian's name over and over. Begging whatever gods would listen to save him.----------------------------------
The smell of food woke me. I groaned loudly as I tried to move. Every muscle in my body still screamed in agony. Slowly I opened my eyes, letting them adjust.
Night air fluttered through the cracks in the tent I found myself currently in. Somebody had covered me in warm furs. I yelped hard as I sat up. My back was threatening to give out on me. One by one I swung my legs over, looking across the room and seeing Julian's cloak neatly folded up."Hello?" I started calling out as I was fearful of even trying to walk. I could hear many voices and the crackling of campfires outside. Yet nobody responded to me.Reluctantly I picked myself up, snatching the cloak from across the room. I struggled with the tent's zipper and stepped outside. My knees felt like they were going to give out on me any second. I took many wobbly steps. Conversations stopped as people turned to look at me.I didn't make it far before a medic found me, barely having to use force," woah there, who let you out of bed? You've been out for almost three days! You can't just get up and walk off. I'm surprised your legs are even working."He began trying to redirect me back to the tent and I looked around frantically," where am I? Where's Gerwulf? Where's Julian?"He didn't respond, and instead left me to my thoughts as I was sat back onto the bed. He pulled the clipboard from the table the cloak had been sat on.My legs bounced frantically as my patience wore thin," excuse me-""Gerwulf is somewhere around the camp," the medic looked up at me finally. His eyes fogged over for a second and I knew he was speaking to somebody in the mind link. " Julian is still unstable. These grounds are off limits for hunting and we've exhausted our blood supply feeding the other vampires that had come to fight in the night. Most of them fed on the werewolves they'd killed and gone home with full bellies. Not the ideal meal but... you'll eat anything when you're hungry enough."My eyes widened in shock, making the medic laugh," they're worse than wolves. At least we still have our humanity, they're just... a creature inhabiting a barely human body." My cheeks slightly heated. How could he say such a thing about Julian?!Footsteps sounded outside the door and a throat cleared," Eloise?" It was timid, but I knew exactly who it was. Gerwulf. I would recognize that voice anywhere. The medic jumped up perfectly straight and quickly opened the tent. I first saw his blood red hair, as he'd bent down to step through. He'd changed so much. The lanky boy I knew now was thick with muscles and masculine. It's what happened when one grew into their wolf, they went through many physical changes. He'd let his hair grow and no longer kept it combed so neatly. His face sculpted itself and his jaw was strong. I'd almost forgotten how tall he was, there was no way he'd blend in with humans on a street."Are you alright?" Gerwulf broke the silence with a smirk. He knew I was checking him out. It made my face heat up tremendously. I quickly looked away down to my hands," y-yeah I'm fine." He chuckled and sat on the edge of the bed extending his arms to give me a metal tray piled generously with food. A small piece of cake with a crooked candle was placed on a bowl in the corner."What time is it?" My eyes met his again," please say I didn't miss my birthday!""No no no. It is only about 9. I wouldn't let you miss it for anything," he reassured me as his eyes held a strange emotion within them. The medic left to give us privacy to catch up. I happily ate. We shared the cake as I felt too full to finish it. It had been so long since I'd seen my friend that I was overcome with happiness.I had spoken more to him in the last few hours than I had in years. Gerwulf told me of the creation of the Ash Walker pack and how he'd struggled in the beginning. His pack had been mainly composed of rogues he felt he'd trusted in the beginning. Now they had a beautiful town, and he'd begun expanding the territory. I didn't have to be told to know that meant he'd absorbed the packs he'd defeated. I knew he would change either from being an alpha or living a rogue life but a part of me hoped he'd always be a gentle soul.My skin started to itch and I became uncomfortable. It felt like I couldn't sit still at all. Gerwulf glanced down at his watch, letting me know it was closing in on midnight. He gently scooped me up, and hastily walked through the c
'What?!' I screamed at my wolf. Surely there was no way.'Mate! He is also mate!' Praline began loudly howling.Yeah, it made things make much more sense... but she had to be wrong.Everybody around me spoke to him trying to get him to calm down, all attempts in vain. Even the voice of Gerwulf did nothing. He ran to the front where we were standing barrelling himself against it over and over again.Julian's shaking figure breathed deeply. His warm breath looking like smoke in the cool night air. His yellow eyes glowed like a demon as he stared at me. I whimpered, feeling my heart rate speed up at his intense stare.'Touch him. It will comfort him' my wolf urged.I slowly reached out a shaking hand. Gerwulf was far too distracted to notice as he was barking orders to the guards to sedate him.As soon as my palm touched his cheek his body r
Julian was the first to move, turning his head as if he wanted to kiss me again but I quickly moved my face to the other side. This was the worst place possible for something like that."What.... in the... fuck?" Simon was the first to speak up. Confusion was etched into everybody's faces as they watched Julian return affection being turned into a giant kitten again. His loud purring erupted and I smiled as I went along with it scratching behind his ears and making baby sounds at him.Vance began uncontrollably laughing, and not long after Dietrich followed. Simon dared to get closer as he pulled out his phone all to happy to record Julian's purely blissfully smiling face and cat like purring."Julian weren't you just calling yourself a killing machine last week?" Beth managed to speak between laughs, holding onto her pregnant belly as she wiped tears away.I just smiled more, re
We'd talked for hours, the night droning on as the TV in the background barely even mattered anymore. Halfway through whatever movie was playing we had stopped paying attention.Instead I had my hot blooded Alpha on top of me hungrily kissing away at my neck. I was a mess of moans and panting. Never in my life had I felt this absolutely stuck with a feeling of desire. His lips were warm against my skin as he sucked and nipped teasing me where I knew his mark would go. He'd made it very clear his intentions of mating as soon as we could.I sucked in a ragged breath feeling his hands travel down my body as he tried his best to remove what little clothing I had decided was good enough for bed. He ripped my panties and pajama bottoms off in one swipe, only caring to push the top up and completely expose my chest before his hand made warm circles on my skin dipping lower and lower towards my womanhood."Please be gentle with
I had hurt him, he felt it all.My parents always told me it was an agonizing feeling for any mated and marked wolf to feel their other being unfaithful.Gerwulf's face was filled with anger, trying to disguise the hurt that he was feeling. The flood gates opened and I put my head into my hands, not wanting to cry while I looked at him," I couldn't... I couldn't push him away. It's like my mind wanted to but my body was physically incapable." Anger slipped through my voice.Gerwulf's eyes turned black slowly and he turned his back to me beginning to pace. His arms and hands kept moving, sometimes rubbing his hands through his hair and other times pulling it. He was fighting with his wolf, whatever was being said was angering them both. It seemed even years later his wolf was powerful enough to slip through and take over.I watched for a few minutes as he paced the room, becoming more sporadic. It was
I had awoken early. For the first time ever I felt completely well rested and decided to take a walk around the outside of the house to get a little exercise in before the sun came up completely.I quickly looked through my clothing finding a warm looking cream colored sweater and black leggings. The fall air was always a little too cold for me. It was normal for werewolves to be naturally very warm but I wasn't as fortunate and neither were my parents for some reason.I put on a beanie and quickly slipped into some athletic looking shoes. The streetlamps were still on and barely anybody was moving around the house at this point. Gerwulf had left hours before to begin his morning training. When I gained some strength and weight he expected me to start training with the rest of the pack. For now he was content treating me like a delicate flower.I huffed, thinking to myself as I descended down the cleared pathway around t
Beth helped me hide the cloak in an unused room and forced me into the tub to scrub me clean of any scent. I swear my skin was almost ready to come off from how ridiculously hard she scrubbed at me.By the the time she'd finished I had a light green turtleneck on and a pair of black skinny jeans. She'd brushed my short chocolate locks and parted them neatly."How are you eighteen and don't have your ears pierced?" Beth laughed to herself as she was about to let me borrow a pair. She closed the lid of her jewelry box.I shrug, feeling self conscious suddenly. I didn't feel like ruining the mood and mentioning that my mother barely talked to me let alone let me have a luxury like a pair of earrings. It seemed that nobody other than Gerwulf and Julian were aware that I had been a servant before becoming their Luna.Beth spun me around and forced me to look at myself in the mirror. I hadn't spent much ti
My body ached as I started morning stretches on the front lawn of the pack house. Gerwulf and I seemed to not be able to keep our hands off one another for the last week. Between that and the increase of how much I was pushing myself to exercise, my body definitely needed a break. He had finally agreed to schedule my Luna ceremony this weekend and the entire pack was ecstatic. Even though we were only a few hundred people at the moment the community seemed tight-knit. Gerwulf would be leaving soon to stage another attack and hopefully bring down Harvest Moon this time. Afterwards he planned on expanding more and taking down somebody who'd started a pack made of some of the most ruthless rogues.I got up and took a deep breath starting my early morning jog. Today I'd decided on a tight pair of leggings and a sports bra. The air was chilly but I knew by the end of the jog I'd be drenched in sweat if I wore anything more.I
"Quinn moved on already Gideon," his words stung. I looked up from the photos and straight into his eyes that were the same shade of amber as mine. He wore a pained look. I knew how he felt about the situation with Quinn and I. I knew he still blamed himself for me losing my mate. "I know," I couldn't hold back the growl that ripp
I want to give a big thank you to everybody who followed along with this story. It took a lot for me to upload it in the first place and it makes me incredibly happy to see that people were interested in it. :) This will be continued in my second book "Love Thy Hellhound"! I have already started uploading chapters on it but I will give a sneak peak into the book for those who might be interested. LTHH is going to be a lot darker and include some of the characters from this story. It starts off nine years from the time the last "Aftermath" chapter takes place. It is currently only available through the mobile site because it hasn't been signed yet. I've already uploaded nine chapters of it. Again a big thank you for anybody who gave this book a chance! I appreciate each and every one of you. -INSECT
GIDEON There are very few times I can ever remember my mother crying in front of us. After the birth of my other siblings and when dad said overly sweet things to her. Other than that were the times my father was involved. Whether it be he came home from one of the council's missions in ill health or they had one of their many arguments... she cried. "There has to be something you can do," my mother's broken voice filled our kitchen. As I stared into her red eyes my heart ached. I had been the one to make her cry this time. Was I just as bad as my father? Quinn's warm hand was placed onto my shoulder and I relaxed a bit. My father grabbed his glass of dark liquid again and downed it. He looked awful, having just come back from a mission days ago. Deep red hair a shaggy mess around his shoulders and dark bags beneath his eyes. He stood in front of me at the kitchen island, staring down at m
QUINNI just knew that leaving would be a bad idea. Everyday away for the last three months it's felt like I'm losing my mind. His smell, touch... all of it. I craved it so much. Slipping up and giving into my darkest desires during that party ruined everything. It completely broke all the rules my pack and his parents had given me.I wasn't allowed to make a move on Gideon until he had his first shift. It was forbidden amongst most werewolves and lycans to let a mate know you're theirs until they come of age.The moment he left my mother had confronted me. His thick scent of sandalwood was now intertwined with mine. Soaking up every bit of my being and making me dizzy.Being sent away for 'training' was her form of punishment. She was worried I was going to mess up everything they'd planned. Gerwulf had become unpredictable once the council started contracting him for work.
GIDEON My foot pressed down harder as I started to speed carelessly through the traffic. Who was he to tell me what to do?! My anger was flaring as Otto was fighting against me to stay calmed down. If I got too pissed I'd shift and being this publicly exposed would be bad. Humans frequented this town as much as the supernaturals. "Yes we are!" I swerved recklessly, pulling into the first parking spot at the mall. I went to jump out of the car, but Quinn pulled me back in hard. His nostrils were flaring with his canines elongated. He wasn't trying to hide just how absolutely pissed off he was in this moment. "We. Are. Not. Going," he pronounced each words hard. His grip on my wrist tightening. "Stop treating me like a child!" I was yelling at this point. "You ARE a child! Maybe you aren't five, but if you want me to treat you li
GIDEON'You should really cut your hair,' Otto, my shifter spirit hissed at me.I rolled my eyes, staring into the mirror. I'd just gotten out of the shower after morning training with the pack. Did I really look that bad? My large hands twisted through my long brown locks. Maybe? Demeter said she liked guys with longer hair.'Yes you do. Don't listen to that girl,' he grew more impatient.Otto had been a constant source of annoyance my entire life. He'd been awake in my mind since childhood. Something that I never told my parents about. Mom doesn't know about the deal that my father made with the council. It's better if neither of them know about this. When both of my sides awaken then I have to start my service. Five years, no exceptions. It was a thought that had haunted me for a long time. Father told me about it on my thirteenth bi
7 years later..."Please please try not to break anything this time!" Gerwulf was in full on dad mode as we all piled out of the car. Gideon was the first to jump out of the vehicle with the big bag of cookies he'd made for dinner. His younger brothers followed behind him quickly. Our family had grown rapidly since everything went down. Since things had become calm. Things had changed drastically for the pack. Some for the better... some for the worst possible. Wolves were being born with abilities beyond what should be possible. Ash Walker was now on a gag order from Gerwulf. People weren't to talk about our family and I was strictly banned from attending anything with him. Both Julian and Gerwulf were too afraid of another rebellion happening.Aldric Stoll's pack was now under close watch while we waited for his grandson to come of age. Mason, the pack Beta was left alive and tasked w
"Alright alright. Give him back," Julian was pouting like a child as he watched his parents take turns holding Max. Forrest laughed at his son while Colette hissed lightly and hugged her grandson tighter. "You'll get him back when we're ready to give him back," she snapped. I couldn't hold in the laughter watching Julian deflate and sulk back over to our bed. My head pounded as my muscles tensed up with laughter. "It's not fair. All of you guys have had hours to be with him and I've only had minutes," he lay his head into my lap and puffed out his bottom lip. "Guess we'll just have to make another so you always have a baby to hold," I used my free hand to pet at his hair. The other was currently occupied with Gideon who slept soundly curled against my chest. He'd cried so hard when Gerwulf put him down that it felt like my ear drums were ready to burst. Thankfully some milk had fixed that problem. Jack from the cou
Aldric. Fucking. Stoll.Bane of my goddess given existence.Julian's warnings of Robin had sent me into a panic, but never did I think that it would be this bad. I had been on my way back from breaking up the fight between Ross and Simon when I heard her getting sick. One look at her features and the puddle of blood on the floor let me know she had been poisoned. What I hadn't expected was what I saw when my mother lifted her shirt. Whatever had entered her system was working fast.I hated myself for leaving her alone to finish decorating the houses. If I hadn't left...Julian's cries were echoing in the hollowed out chamber that was my mother's apothecary area. He hadn't stopped sobbing and exhausting himself trying to move since he'd been tossed down here with the rest of us. Dietrich, Vance, my mother, my father, and Robin were all out cold. Twenty minutes after tossing us down here they threw dow
