Dr. Levi's warm smile reassured us as he delivered the news. "Mrs. Barrington, your baby is fine, with a healthy heartbeat and growing nicely." His gaze shifted to James. "But the two of you..." He shook his head, concern etched on his face. "I will have to involve the police. Maybe a social worker as well."

James nodded, determination in his eyes. "Do what you must, Dr. Levi. I have to speak to Inspector Gordon regarding my wife's kidnapping."

Dr. Levi's frown deepened as he glanced at our bruised bodies. "Is it relevant to this?" he asked, motioning to our injuries.

"James, are you sure?" Anxiety clenched my chest, the weight of potential consequences weighing heavily. This could cause a rift between him and his family, not to mention the trouble he'd face with the police. And the media attention... it could turn into a circus.

He squeezed my hand reassuringly. "I've never been more convinced, Sugar. This must end."

After the constable arrived to take our statements, we left
