Wild missed the others. Elaine knew he missed Tiffany and Westley. She knew that he knew they belonged where they were. They weren't as far gone as he was. He couldn't quite go back into human society like those two. He knew, and so did Elaine, deep down. That's why she decided that he would be the one to help save the others. That was the initial plan anyway. Now that the news of the hybrids were out, that meant getting the police involved. Get Jon involved. She was going to have Jon and Wild meet. She would invite him tonight and bring him over tomorrow if he agreed.
Elaine stopped by his room, where one of the other employees had brought him something new to read every few days or so. He preferred books over the TV. "Hey, I might be bringing someone over tomorrow, and he's going to ask questions about the facility and the experiments. Is that ok?" Wild looked up from his book. "If it's the first step to freeing the rest, I'll do it." Elaine nodded quietly, bidding Wild goodnight and goodbye before she left to go home for the night.Jon wasn't home when she got home. It gave her time to shower and eat and think through the scenarios regarding how Wild and Jon would meet. How they would interact with each other. Wild was pretty quiet and reserved compared to Jon's rather talkative nature. She wasn't sure if Wild would be scared of it, if he would ignore it, if he would be intrigued in what he had to say. Maybe he would listen to Jon talk. Provide his usual short answers, maybe a few long ones. She heard the front door open and close. Keys were tossed onto the counter. "Is my Mrs. Moore home?""Other room, we have to talk, Jon."Jon went to get dressed with Elaine following. "You've been working pretty long nights. Is it important?" Jon shook his head and shrugged. "The human hybrids have been all over the news. I want to get down to the bottom of it and find out who would do that to children. I need to know if there is more out there..." Elaine smiled a little. Jon was such a good man, and she was glad he was already looking into it. "They call it the W Series. Tiffany and Westley were 2 of 644 experimented on children within the facility." Jon looked at Elaine in surprise before realization dawned on him. "The thing you had to keep secret..." She nodded. "Tiffany, Westley, and Wild were the only three we've gotten out so far. We are working out how to get the rest of the survivors out." Jon blinked. "Wait, Wild? There were three?""Sit down, I'll start from the beginning."Elaine told Jon everything from beginning to where they were now. About the different experimentation labs around the world that had been popping up and her mission to infiltrate the closest one, the W Series, as a therapist. She told him about meeting all the children who were kidnapped and forced to go through genetic modification and how some of them didn't make it out. She told him about of the 644 remaining children, Wild, Westley, and Tiffany were the best choices to pull out and save first and how although Westley and Tiffany were given back to their families, Wild was still in their custody. Finally, she told him how Wild wanted to save his fellow hybrids and get them back to where they belonged. Jon listened to every detail.Elaine waited as Jon mauled over the information he'd been given. "Can I talk to him? Wild? Can I help take this place, this W Series, down?" Jon asked, to which Elaine smiled. "Yes. I was wondering if you wanted to meet him tomorrow? He's a good kid. He's a bit reserved and territorial, but he doesn't bite." Elaine mused. "Wait, is that a possibility?""They had wolf DNA forced into their genetic code. Of course, it's a possibility." She pointed out. "Oh." That was nice to know. "He won't. He's older than the other two were." Elaine reassured Jon. "Well. We should probably get to sleep if I'm going to meet him, hm?" Elaine beamed and gave a quick, happy kiss."Yes, of course!"Wild's nose twitched to the powdery smell of doughnuts. It woke him up instantly. Doughnuts, shave cream, and the familiar scent of perfume. Elaine was in his room with a man and a bag of doughnuts. His ears perked, and his eyes glowed in the dark as he turned to face the two. "Good morning, Wild." Elaine greeted him quietly, though she knew he heard her as if she said it out loud. "Good morning..." He greeted back, sitting up and stretching. "You said he was a kid?" The male asked in startled surprise. "He is still a child until he turns eighteen in a few weeks." The male carried Elaine's scent. They were mates, he realized. "This is your husband. Jon?" Elaine smiled. "Yes, he is. He's going to help us free the others." His eyes traveled to the bag. Elaine's gaze followed. "Come on over for breakfast." She invited. Wild got up in an instant and got the lights so the humans could see.Jon had seen the other two. The boys' nose, claws , and fangs. The girls' tongue. But Wild was a whole other level that he hadn't been able to see in the darkness. That boy had literal fucking paws, a tail, ears, eyes. Jon watched Elaine give him a doughnut and watched Wild reveal literal wolf teeth in his mouth. "H-how long have you..." Wild's ear twitched, and he turned to Jon. "Long enough to know I'm not human." He took another doughnut from Elaine. "Wild was very little when he was kidnapped. I don't know what his exact age was." Jon felt sick. Who would do this..?Wild was waiting for more questions. Whether it be something like if his hair was actually hair or fur like Richard had asked or another like if he remembered his time before. Until the question would be asked, he enjoyed the powdery doughnuts Elaine was providing. "Who hurt you? Any names will do." That wasn't a question Wild was expecting. His body tensed in reaction, his tail tucking itself firmly between his legs and his ears folding down. Wild whined lowly, backing up a few steps as he remembered W-16-D. The man, the director. "Woah woah, it's ok, Wild, it's ok!""He will hurt you, don't go after him, he will hurt you..." He hugged himself tightly. "He's hurt someone before?" Jon asked. "She... she tried to leave... he made an example of her. He will make an example of you, too..." Wild flinched as Elaine touched him, then pulled him into a loose hug. "We need his name, or we can't save the others. What is his name, Wild?" Elaine was good to him. He could tell her. She would protect him."His name is Michael... Michael Jonah...""Jonah, Michael, age 43, height 5'9", hair brunette, eyes green. CEO to Algam Industries Co. Pioneer to genetic modification technology. This dude here is your classic evil villain. He's got a lot of influence on our world and a lot of money to put us all in the ground. It's like if Tony Stark and Wilson Fisk had a baby. That's this guy." Jon arched an eyebrow at Richard. "Did you just do a Marvel comparison?" Richard grinned. "I'm not sorry." Elaine tried not to chuckle. "Boys, focus. How do we get evidence linking him to the W Series?" Richard chuckled nervously. "That's the million dollar question, isn't it? I couldn't tell you. His record is suspiciously clean. Not even a DWI as a teenager." Jon hummed. "Safe to say this is a classic case of the Oliver Queen." Richard grinned. "DC, niiiice." "Can we stop with the hero talk and use normal words?" Elaine requested. "One, Oliver Queen is a vigilante. Two, he's saying that it's possible his family is powerful enough to pay off the po
Wild got a new read today. The Incredible Journey is what it was called, and it was the story of two dogs and a cat trying to go home to their humans by crossing the Himalayan mountains. They faced many dangers and hardships, but eventually, they got home. It was a heartwarming story that Wild enjoyed while he waited for Elaine and Jon to get back to the facility. It was nothing like Call of the Wild or White Fang, but the kinship was much appreciated, so he liked it. It reminded him of his own kin that he was going to save, one way or another.Wild's nose twitched at the faint, fresh traces of Elaine's perfume. He sometimes wondered if she would ever switch it up or if she used the same scent on purpose, so he knew when she was coming. Either way, she was here now, hopefully setting up that waffle maker. He felt like he hadn't had waffles in forever. Wild boosted himself to his paws and left his room in favor of seeing if that was indeed what she was doing. As he drew closer, he pick
Wild took in every sight and every sound with curious intrigue. His second time on a car ride and his first time actually seeing everything, he kinda held like a kid in a candy store. He looked like one too, with his face pressed up against the glass as he took in everything that he'd read in books and seen on cartoons but hardly ever saw himself. Jon was confused at first, but remembering the kids' orgins... it made sense that he was so excited about things people like Jon took advantage of every single day. Elaine said to him once that none of the hybrids had seen the light of day before. It made him wonder how they got the essential vitamins and minerals that one got when outside. Jon wanted to ask, but he didn't want to ruin the moment for Wild. Perhaps at a later time...They stopped at a Kwik Trip. "Stay here, I'll be right back." Jon left Wild in the car, moving to the back to refuel the car. Wild immediately recoiled at the disgusting scent of gasoline and covered his nose wit
It was about what Wild expected. They sat in the car, watching and waiting for someone to come out of that big, stupidly tall building. Wild munched slowly on the burrito he'd been given as he stared down the rotating doors of this giant, clearly expensive apartment complex. He was scared to look away. He didn't want to miss out on the director and lose him and any chance of finding the other hybrids. "Don't look so obvious, kid. We have to look casual, or the target will know something is up." Jon warned Wild. "Hard to act casual, being victim to his crimes.""I'm sure, but you have to. Please don't make me regret taking you along..." Jon looked pointedly at Wild, who leaned back and tore his eyes away from the doors. The hours passed slowly and endlessly. Wild tried to keep himself distracted with the idea and freeing the others, them all going home to their families. This was the best case scenario. Wild knew from the books he read that nothing ever went as planned. There were goi
It had grown dark again as they stopped at a hotel for the night. They, naturally, were going to be sleeping in the car again while Michael Jonah slept blissfully unaware of them inside the hotel. "It's getting very cramped in here..." Wild sighed as he crawled into the back, trying to keep his lower half from going numb sitting in the car as long as he had been. "I'm sure... you haven't exactly gotten to get out since we started. Wanna, I don't know, take a walk or something?" Jon offered. "I thought I couldn't be seen?" Wild twisted around, hearing his back pop a good many times. "You can't be seen by Jonah. It's dark, Wild, very few people are awake at this time of night." Jon pointed out. "Besides, you need it. You'll cramp up if you don't, and that hurts a lot. Trust me." Wild sighed and popped the back door open. "Let's go take a walk then." He tucked his tail uncomfortably into his jeans, so he looked a little less like a freak. He couldn't cover up his paws, but otherwise, he
It was a bit weird, driving off the road. Jon had told Wild it was so they couldn't be spotted by the director on his way out. They would be watching what he was doing from the surrounding forest. Jon took a camera and a small recorder with before leading Wild away from his car and in the direction the director's vehicle had been heading. The leaflitter felt natural on Wild's paws. This was where he felt he belonged. He could feel it deep inside. His nostrils flared, and his ears twitched as he took in every sight and sound. He wanted to run. He pushed the idea down. He knew he couldn't, but he wanted to. He always had and always would. "Wild, keep up, kid." Jon called. He caught up quickly, slightly distracted. He smelled vanilla and coconut body wash with a slight hint of musk. It made him stop again. "Wild -" "We aren't alone out here." He sniffed again, trying to locate that smell. It was above them somewhere. in the trees. A female. Copper. He was picking up a coppery smell now.
Jon had to talk to the cops. Wild did a bit of taking as well, only to confirm that Jon was helping him rather than hurting him. After that, he got to see the other hybrid. The puma girl was still asleep, out due to sedatives. He swore he could still smell it in her system. He took the time to examine her more, beyond the feline features the puma DNA had given her. He could see small scars and scratches, maybe from herself, maybe from another hybrid. He knew how hard it was to get used to claws. He wondered what was next for her. Would she go home too? Join the cause to save their kind? "Idaho man, they are really something." Jon sighed as he came in. At this point in time, Wild was simply staring out the window, watching the cars on the highway zoom by. His ear twitched, though, signifying that he was, in fact, listening to Jon. "What's next? When she gets out?" Wild asked, shifting in his spot to look at the detective. "Technically, that's up to her and Elaine. I did call her about
Elaine and Jon hadn't truly fathomed how much Wild had been stressed out until check out around eight. He was out the doors the moment he saw them and didn't turn around to look at the building once. Wild felt like he could breathe again, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly. He'd survived the night. That was good. He was ready to check on Kat again and see how her night had gone. "Wild!" He glanced at Elaine, ears down in an attempt to ignore all the noise around them. "Elaine?" "Are you ok? You seemed to be in a hurry to get out..." Elaine commented. Jon came out with the they few bags of luggage he and Elaine had brought. "I didn't like it in there. Reminded me of the Series..." Wild replied as he opened the car door and got on the back."Why didn't you say anything? If you were uncomfortable, we could've slept somewhere else." Jon was saying as they drove back to the hospital. "You guys seemed fine with it. It's not like staying a night killed me..." Wild replied as he looked out
Wild was separated from the others to get x-rays done. It turned out he'd fractured one of the bones in his legs, but that was the worst of his damage. Jon had broken his arm and his nose. He also had a concussion that had put him in his comatose state, and he needed stitches. All three of them did, actually. Kat had the least amount of damage, only needing three stitches compared to Wild's fifteen and Jon's forty-two. They found Elaine's contact in Jon's phone, so she was now on her way Montana, where they had ended up crashing. The good news was that they were close to the Wyoming border. Wild was almost back to his home territory. It made him feel better. "Good afternoon, Wild." He sat up in his bed, regarding the doctor uneasily. White coats didn't exactly associate with good things, but this doctor only checked his fluids before listening to his heartbeat and breathing as well as taking his blood pressure. "Afternoon..." Wild watched him go about his business as usual and let him
"What do we do?" Kat questioned as they looked up. "... it might be a while before we are found... we need to survive." Wild staggered to his paws and peered up. "Starting with patching ourselves up with what we can use and finding or making a shelter. I sense rain in the air." Kat was immediately pushing Wild back onto the ground. "Rest! I can take care of building a shelter. You need to focus on your injuries." The puma hybrid dashed off after that, presumably to find material for a shelter or some sort. Wild glanced back up at the incline. Would Kat have done it if he asked her to climb up for help? She wasn't the most trusting of humans. Wild got to work, picking glass out of the cuts on his skin and using the hem of his shirt to dab away blood. A small part of him wanted to lick it, but he shoved that thought far back as he moved onto Jon. He had small cuts from glass, too, and bruises everywhere like Wild. The worst of it was the buising gash on his head from it bouncing off the
It was a little more than a month before Kat was discharged. The local police had gone after Michael Jonah for what he did, and he was now wanted in both Idaho and Wyoming. Only the P Series was located, the federal authorities of the state taking them while Kat was allowed to go to Wyoming to help free others like herself and Wild. Elaine knew it wouldn't be long before Michael Jonah was wanted in most, if not all, the US. If he was smart, he would turn himself in and give up the locations of all the Series. Wild and Kat knew better, though. He would probably leave the country and go to one of the Series out of the country where he wasn't wanted. That would become a problem for the UN, and it would be out of their hands. Things were finally picking up on the Series's case. Most of the neighboring states were looking for any sort of facilities that could house Series. Nothing had been found yet, but it wouldn't be long...This time, with Kat not dying, They had two hybrids staring out
Wild had never been in a house before. Taking to an airbnb as their temporary housing until Kat got better. Wild... didn't know how to describe the place other than "better." It was so strange to see a real kitchen and a living room and all the rooms told in stories, but now he was there. The couple that was housing them immediately felt bad for the animal boy, seeing how he was and how utterly confused and shocked he was to see it all. Even more so when he could make himself at home here. Home was a concept he'd never understood before. He'd never had it, but to relax on the living room couch and read was nice. He left the room mostly dark besides the lamp behind him as he enjoyed himself I the relative silence to let the adults talk and figure out sleeping arrangements with their hosts. A long-haired, silver weasel-cat hybrid watched him wearily from the dark, making growl like noises on occasion, but Wild couldn't be bothered. He was in the zone now. Nothing could pull him away fro
