Emily’s POV

The cabin smelled like damp wood and old dust, the kind of scent that clung to the air after a long rain. A single lantern was on the nightstand, its light was weak over the room. The floorboards creaked beneath my bare feet as I moved, the old wooden walls doing little to keep out the cold that seeped through the cracks.

Cole sat on the edge of the worn-out bed, his shirt discarded on the floor, leaving his torso bare. The gash on his side stretched across his ribs, an ugly, jagged wound that sent a sick feeling rolling through my stomach. Blood had dried in uneven patches across his tanned skin, but fresh crimson still oozed from the deeper parts, trailing down toward his waistband.

I knelt beside him, forcing my hands to stay steady as I dug through the first-aid kit. The scent of alcohol filled my nose as I ripped open a packet of wipes.

"You should’ve let me handle it," I muttered, my voice tight with frustration.

Cole huffed out a low laugh, but his jaw was tight, hi

Cole’s POVThe air inside the cabin felt heavy, charged with something I couldn’t shake. It wasn’t fear…no, that was something I’d left behind a long time ago. This was something else. The calmness before the storm. The knowledge that, by this time tomorrow, everything would change.I sat at the wooden table, my phone pressed to my ear as I listened to a low, gravelly voice on the other end. A man I trusted, but only to a certain extent. In this world, trust had limits."Mateo isn’t where you think he is," the voice said. "He’s moving around. Paranoid. That little stunt you pulled must’ve rattled him."Good. That meant we were getting under his skin. I let out a slow exhale, running a hand down my face. Emily sat across from me, arms crossed, watching me like a hawk. Her foot tapped against the floor, a restless rhythm that told me she was barely holding onto her patience.I leaned forward, elbows on the table. "I don’t care if he’s paranoid. I want his exact location before sunrise."

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   97: Change Of Plan

Cole’s POV.I couldn't get any sleep after being intimate with Emily. I was still up, staring at my phone, the screen glowing in the cabin light. A message. Just two words."He knows."My jaw clenched. For a second, I didn’t move. Didn’t breathe. My mind ran through every possibility. Every way this could have happened. We’d been careful…meticulous, even. No leaks, no loose ends. And yet, somehow, Mateo was a step ahead.I shut my eyes briefly, forcing my pulse to slow. I needed to think. Fast. The air in the cabin suddenly felt too thick, the walls too close. I pushed up from the chair, grabbing my jacket off the back of it and stepping outside. The cold night air hit me instantly, sharp and unforgiving, but I welcomed it. It kept me grounded. Kept my mind from spiraling. The trees around the cabin swayed slightly in the breeze, their branches casting long shadows under the moonlight. It was dead quiet out here, the kind of silence that felt unnatural…like the whole forest was holdin

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   98: Taken Away

Emily's POVThe second Cole left, the room felt different. It wasn’t anything obvious…nothing in the cabin had actually changed. The furniture was still where it was. The fire still crackled in the small fireplace. The faint scent of burning wood and old pine still hung in the air. But the energy? That had shifted completely. It felt heavier. Tighter. Like the walls had moved in just a little, enough to make my skin itch.Cole’s men weren’t exactly making it any better. They weren’t talking. Hell, they weren’t even looking at me unless they had to. One of them stood stiff by the door, arms crossed over his chest like he was guarding something priceless. The other, leaner but just as intense, kept glancing out the window every few seconds, his fingers twitching near his gun.I exhaled, dragging my fingers through my hair, then leaned back into the worn-out couch. "You guys always this fun, or is this just special treatment for me?"Silence.Buzz-cut guy at the door didn’t even blink. H

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   99: Meeting With Mateo

Emily’s POVThe van lurched to a stop, jerking my body forward. My hands, still bound behind my back, strained against the rough rope cutting into my wrists. My shoulders ached from being in the same position for too long, and my head was still foggy from whatever they had drugged me with earlier. I clenched my fists, flexing my fingers to get some blood flow back. The back doors creaked open, and the sharp scent of gasoline and damp concrete hit me. It was dark outside, the only light coming from flickering streetlamps and the glow of a distant neon sign. Warehouse. Predictable. These kinds of men always picked the same dingy, abandoned places, like they had some unspoken rule about keeping things as cliché as possible.A voice cut through the silence. "Get her out."A pair of rough hands grabbed my arm, yanking me forward. My feet hit the ground hard, knees buckling slightly before I steadied myself. The men surrounding me were armed, their fingers twitching near their weapons. Thei

Emily’s POVThe sound of the gunshot still rang in my ears, but my brain struggled to process what had just happened. My father…Richard Hart…lay sprawled on the cold concrete floor. Blood spread from his chest, soaking into his once-neat suit. His eyes were open, but there was no life left in them.He was dead.I stared at his body, my breath coming in short, sharp gasps. My chest felt tight, like something heavy had settled on top of it, making it impossible to breathe.A strange, choking noise left my throat before I realized it was me.Mateo chuckled, spinning the gun on his finger before handing it back to one of his men. "Well, that was dramatic," he muttered, wiping his hands on his pants like Richard’s death had somehow dirtied them.My head snapped up."You…" My voice cracked, raw with fury. "You son of a bitch!"Mateo barely spared me a glance. "Oh, don’t act like you cared, Emily. The man treated you like trash your whole life."I jerked forward, but the ropes held me back.

Cole’s POVFew hours earlier. The second my phone rang, I knew something was wrong.I was already on edge, my gut telling me that something didn’t sit right. Emily was supposed to be safe at the cabin. It wasn’t a permanent place, just a temporary stop while we figured out our next move. But the second I saw the name flashing on my screen…one of my men guarding her…something inside me tensed.I swiped to answer. “Talk.”Heavy breathing. Then a voice, rushed and strained. “Boss, we’ve got a problem.”My grip tightened around the phone. “What kind of problem?”A pause. Then, “Two of our guys are dead. Execution style. Emily was taken.”Everything around me blurred. The chatter in the car, the hum of the engine, even the weight of my gun resting on my thigh…it all faded.“What?” My voice was low, deadly.“We didn’t see them coming. It was clean, professional. They hit fast and hard. Emily’s gone, and we’ve got no idea where they took her.”I exhaled through my nose, trying to keep my ang

Emily’s POVThe rain was everywhere. In my hair, in my eyes, soaking through my clothes like a second skin. The wind howled so loud it felt like the whole world was screaming, but nothing was louder than the storm inside me. My pulse pounded in my ears, my breathing was uneven, and my body ached from the bruises and cuts Mateo had left on me.But none of that mattered.Because right now, all I saw was my father’s blood on Mateo’s hands. His grip on my arm was tight, his fingers pressing into my already sore skin as he dragged me toward the edge of the cliff. My boots struggled against the wet ground, slipping on the mud, but he yanked me forward without care.“Fucking hell, you are the most difficult young woman I’ve ever dealt with,” Mateo growled, his voice strained with frustration. His grip tightened painfully, his breath ragged. “Never in my life have I gone through this much shit just for a pussy.”I saw red.I twisted in his grip, my free hand swinging up. Slap. Ruthless strategist. And now, a dead man.White lilies surrounded the altar, their scent thick in the air, almost suffocating. The coffin sat in the center, gleaming under the dim lights of the church. A masterpiece of craftsmanship, polished to perfection. Everything about this funeral was excessive, grand, like Richard had planned it himself.I kept my eyes on Emily. She stood at the front, beside her mother, her back straight, her jaw tight. • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   126: Epilogue

Emily's POV.Six years later.I couldn't believe how much everything had changedm..and how much I had changed. I used to be a woman who could take on anything with a smile, fighting tooth and nail for what I wanted, getting my way, keeping my guard up. Now, I was a wife, a mother to two wild kids who were way too much like me for comfort, and I was somehow still trying to find the balance. Cole and I had two little monsters. I meant that in the most loving way, of course. A five-year-old girl who thought she knew everything, and a three-year-old boy who was already calm enough to be mistaken for a mini version of his father.I looked over at Mia, our daughter, as she flipped through her book on the couch, muttering to herself. “Mom, you know you can’t just say things like that. The truth is like…” She paused, squinting up at me, “...it’s like a key. It opens doors. And if you don’t have the key, well, you’re locked out. Simple logic. Honestly.”I blinked, my fork halfway to my mouth

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   125: The Endgame

Emily's POV.I could feel the tightness in my chest as I walked into the hospital room. The usual weird smell of the hospital hit me instantly, but it didn’t matter. My feet were heavy, like each step took more out of me than it should. I didn’t know what I expected walking in here, but seeing him like this…injured, bruised, bandaged…was almost too much.Cole was sitting upright in the bed, his broad shoulders hunched slightly as he adjusted the position of the IV that was attached to his arm. His face, though familiar, looked a little different. His skin was pale, almost sickly, and his hair was messy, falling loosely across his forehead. His eyes…those eyes that could melt anyone with a single glance…were narrowed at the screen in front of him. His left hand was holding a small tablet, and I saw the footage of the trial. It was the video of what happened in court …Vanessa, shackled, dragged in like she was nothing. I saw the shot of her standing in the courtroom, struggling to keep

Vanessa's POV.They brought me in through the back. Shackled. Dressed in orange. I could feel every damn eye in that courtroom the moment the doors opened.Phones were out. Cameras. People whispering. Judging. Hating.I used to walk through halls with power in my step, people hanging onto my words, afraid to cross me. Now, the guards shoved me forward like I was nothing. Like I wasn’t the Vanessa Monroe. The courtroom was colder than I remembered. The lights too bright. Too many people. Too many eyes. My throat was dry, and not a soul here gave a damn. The judge didn’t look up as I was led to the defendant’s table. He was flipping through a file…my file…thicker than a Bible.I sat. Hands cuffed. Ankles chained. Heart racing. Face burning. And then I saw her.Emily.Sitting there in the front row like she owned the damn place. Like she wasn’t two months pregnant with the child I tried to erase along with her.Her head was high. Shoulders back. Lips painted blood red. Her arms crossed l

Emily's POV.Hours passed. Again. The ICU lights didn’t dim. Nurses kept coming in and out. Adjusting tubes. Checking monitors. Writing things down without saying a word to me. One of them offered me a blanket. Another brought me water I didn’t touch. I couldn’t drink. Couldn’t eat. My stomach was twisted into a hundred knots.Cole hadn’t moved. Not even a twitch.I kept waiting for something. A flick of his fingers. A twitch of an eyelid. A miracle. But the machines kept beeping the same way. Monotonous. Cold. Consistent. My fingers stayed laced with his. Even though he couldn’t squeeze back. The door creaked open again.Footsteps. Not rushed. Not hesitant. Just... steady.I turned, and there she was.Lena.Smith's mom.She looked like she’d driven straight from hell to get here. Hair in a bun that had long since given up. Dark circles under her eyes. Clothes wrinkled, boots dusty. Her eyes locked on me, then flicked to Cole. Her jaw clenched."Is he…?" she didn’t finish the question

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   122: By His Side

Emily's POV.Time didn’t move. Not really. It dragged like my heart was being pulled through broken glass.Smith had fallen asleep with his head in my lap, his fingers still knotted in my blouse. My eyes burned from crying but I couldn't stop. Every time I blinked, I saw Cole. Lying there. Pale. Covered in blood. My mind kept replaying it like some sick, broken reel on loop. I could still feel the heat of his body when he collapsed against me. The sound he made when the bullets hit. That guttural noise. Like his soul was yanked out of him.Hours passed. Or maybe it was just one. I didn’t know anymore. Finally, a nurse appeared in the hallway. She looked young, maybe twenty-six or so, blonde hair tied back messily, glasses slightly askew on her nose. Her expression was serious. Focused.“Mrs. Greyson?” she asked.I stood so fast I almost dropped Smith. “Yes?”She gave me a quick nod. “The surgery is done. He made it through. The bullets are out. There was some internal bleeding and a n

Emily's POV.I didn’t even remember how we got into the ambulance. Everything happened too fast. There was blood everywhere…on my hands, on his shirt, on the floor of the van. Cole’s blood. His body was limp on the stretcher, eyes shut, lips pale. My hands were still clutching his like if I held on tight enough, he’d open his eyes and smile at me and tell me he was okay. But he wasn’t.“Cole… please…please don’t do this to me,” I whispered, barely breathing, tears rolling down both cheeks. “You said you’d protect me… but not like this. Not like this.”The paramedics were talking over each other, one pressing gauze against the wound, another yelling into a radio. I couldn’t keep up. My chest was burning. I felt like I was going to throw up.Smith sat beside me, his face frozen like a statue. He had stopped crying. He just kept staring at Cole with wide, terrified eyes, like he couldn’t believe what was happening. Like he couldn’t believe the man who hugged him this morning and teased h

  • Married To The Billionaire I Hate   120: Three Shots, One Heart

Emily's POV.I knew what Cole was doing, even though he didn’t say it out loud. He wasn’t the type to spell things out when his actions already screamed what his heart was trying to say. He saw the way my eyes were drifting too often to the windows. He caught how my fingers always hovered over my phone screen. The nightmares. The way I snapped at him over breakfast yesterday because the eggs were too salty when they weren’t. I knew he saw it all.So when he knocked on the bathroom door and said, “You’ve got ten minutes or I’m dragging you out in sweatpants,” I smiled. It was a genuine one. Not forced. Not rehearsed. Just a small smile that told me... he was trying to bring me back. And maybe I needed that.I stepped out of the bathroom, hair still damp, wrapped in a towel. He looked up from where he was tying Smith’s shoelaces, and the second our eyes met, his face softened.“Hey,” he said, standing.“Hey,” I murmured back, letting my towel drop to the floor to grab the outfit I laid

Vanessa's POV.I didn’t need anyone to tell me something was wrong. The knock came slower than usual. Three soft taps. Not urgent. Careful. I already knew what it meant before I pulled the door open.Nico stood there with that face…the one he wore when something had gone terribly wrong. Like everything had changed. My stomach twisted."What?" I asked, voice dry.He hesitated, his eyes moving toward the small, dim lamp in the corner of the abandoned office space we now used as a safehouse. This place stunk of bleach, old dust, and regret. The carpet was torn. The windows sealed with thick curtains. It was the kind of place where ghosts would feel at home. A fitting place for a fugitive like me."It’s done," he said. "They caught him."My heart stalled.I took a slow breath, stared at him. "Who?""The guy feeding us Cole’s movements. The driver. The one you bribed days ago."I shut the door and turned around. My fingers trembled, just a little. But I walked with purpose. Sat down on the
