The Last Night

Laura knelt before the iron bars. The bottom of her beige dress spread across the dirty floor.

"Lady Laura!" cried Merri.

"...Laura."

Although I could smell the fragrance of the perfume she was wearing, the fragrance was soon replaced by a strong sour smell. And because I switched off my magic, the bad smell pierced the nose even more.

Merri was still begging Laura not to kneel in this place. Merri's hand reached out of the prison through the narrow gap of the iron bars. She tried to reach Laura's hand which was tightly clenched above her thigh.

"Come on, get up please, Lady Laura."

While Merry was frantically trying to make Laura move, Laura kept her gaze on me instead. I saw her gaze is so firm and sure. Then after a long silence, she opened her mouth again.

“Your Highness, please...”

I let out a short breath. “First, I am no longer a Crown Princess. And second, I won't do it."

Laura had a better life
