Two Years Later
FREYAI lifted my head to the mirror. To say I was shocked was an understatement—I couldn't recognize the woman staring back at me.
My once long, black hair was now short and blonde. My curvy physique had transformed into a slim, youthful figure, making me look even more beautiful. My once pale skin was now rich, glossy, and well-tanned. There was no way the Shadow-Moons would recognize me, not with the change in my eye color.
I used to have brown eyes, but with the help of contacts, they were now ocean blue.
My lips curled into a smirk as I admired my perfection. Last year, I began this transformation, and now it is finally complete.
I started by going on a strict diet and working out regularly to lose weight. To eliminate any trace of my past identity, I even added a small dark scar near my left ear. It was subtle but added to my new, more confident persona.
Just as I finished packing my suitcase and was about to leave, my phone rang. It was Aster Shadow-Moon—the man who had saved my life two years ago.
After I had broken his head with a lampstand and escaped, Aster found me and took me to the hospital. That was when I met Rico, a movie costumier and Aster's best friend. He took me in, trained me, and turned me into someone capable of transforming into anyone I wanted. I had risen above the wretched standard I had been left in after the Shadow-Moons destroyed my pack.
I picked up my phone, wondering why Aster was calling.
"Aster," I said as I answered.
"Freya," he replied. I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Rico told me you're coming back today?"
"Yeah, I was just about to head to the airport before you called."
"Let me know when you arrive—I’ll pick you up."
I paused. Aster was one of the reasons I had come back. He would be a tool in my hands to bring down the Shadow-Moons. A part of me felt guilty—he was innocent, unaware of his family's crimes. But I didn't care. He was a Shadow-Moon—my only way in.
I wouldn't rest until they paid for what they did to me. To my pack. To my people.
Aster had always despised his family's manipulative ways and had distanced himself from them, only getting involved when absolutely necessary.
However, I had recently heard a rumor that he was to be crowned the next Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack—something he was actually eager about. He wanted to change the corrupt system that the pack had operated under for so long.
Despite my initial refusal to get close to him, Aster had never stopped trying.
"Freya, are you there?"
"Yes... um, I'll let you know when I arrive."
"See you then." He ended the call.
I grabbed my suitcase and walked out the door.
The flight home was smooth, and Aster was already waiting for me at the airport when I arrived. A wide smile spread across his face when he saw me. For a moment, he was taken aback.
"What happened to you? What has Rico been feeding you all this time with? Did he overwork you?"
I laughed. "Not at all. Don't I look good?"
"You look... fabulous. I was just so shocked that I started babbling nonsense. Honestly, no one from two years ago would ever recognize you."
"Well, that was the goal. I don’t want anything to remind me of the past." My expression darkened, and Aster immediately pulled me into a hug.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories."
I pulled away and forced a smile. "It’s not your fault, Aster. Now, let’s go."
"Of course."
Aster drove me to the four-bedroom apartment Rico had helped me rent. The ground floor was my studio, while I lived upstairs.
My life had become a success, and I owed Aster for introducing me to Rico, my former boss.
"Here we are," Aster said, placing my last suitcase on the floor.
"Thank you, Aster. For everything."
He nodded, then hesitated before speaking again.
"Freya, there's something I’ve been meaning to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Can we talk about it over dinner tomorrow night?"
I thought for a moment before responding. "Okay. Tomorrow night it is."
Aster's face lit up. "Thank you, Freya. I'll pick you up at 8 PM."
"That sounds great."
He leaned in and kissed my forehead.
"See you tomorrow, then." With that, he left.
I collapsed onto the couch, exhausted—not from the trip, but from Aster, my plans, and the storm brewing inside me.
I quickly stood up and left the house, driving straight to my former pack—The Crescent Moon.
As I entered, my eyes welled with tears. Everything has changed. The land was ruined.
Miners drilled into the soil. I had heard the Shadow-Moons had discovered oil here, along with gold and precious stones in the northern hills. That was why my people had been destroyed.
Tears burned my eyes as I clenched my fists, turned around, and ran back to my car.
ASTERI knotted my tie and looked at my reflection in the mirror.
Tonight, I would finally tell Freya my intentions.
I had waited for so long. I needed to gain her trust first and allow her to heal. After what happened to her and her pack—by unknown individuals—I knew she needed time to heal.
My father had been too busy with his new project to accept the Alpha position, so he had pushed it onto me. He knew I refused to involve myself in his shady business, so he had no choice.
My little brother, Darren, and my sister, Linnet, had taken over the family’s activities. I had no idea what they even traded.
I had always preferred my quiet, simple life, but I couldn’t turn down the offer to lead my people. They needed someone to protect them from the corrupt packs surrounding us.
But I couldn’t be an Alpha without a Luna.
Since I hadn’t found my fated mate, Freya was the only woman I wanted by my side.
I took one last look at myself and headed out the door.
At 7:56 PM, I was at her apartment.
When Freya opened the door, I forgot my manners for a moment.
"Holy shit, you look gorgeous."
She smirked. "And you’re not looking bad yourself."
She took my hand, and I kissed her cheek before leading her out.
Freya
Aster had great taste, just like his family.
The five-star hotel he chose for dinner belonged to his family—though he didn’t know it.
Darren had once taken me here when we were dating, boasting about his family’s wealth. It was then I learned that he had an older brother who had left home as a teenager to study abroad.
Few people even knew about Aster.
He had only returned six months before my supposed wedding to Darren. He had lived in isolation in a private cabin, far from his pack.
It had been a miracle that he found me that night. Otherwise, I would have been dead.
Darren and his family thought I had perished with my people.
They had no idea.
I had come back to reclaim what was mine.
And tonight, my plan would truly begin.
FREYAA waiter stopped by and handed us the menu. I placed my order, and Aster followed suit. After serving us wine, the waiter took the menu away.I took a sip, savoring the rich, smooth, silky liquid as it flowed down my throat."It's a great wine," I said."Yeah, Italy’s finest. I'm glad you like it," Aster replied."So, about this meeting, what do you want us to talk about?""Freya," Aster said, placing his hand over mine on the table. His tone soft and gentle. From my seat, I can see the lustful desire burning inside his brown iris. Is as if I'm seeing through his soul. He swallowed the lump in his throat, making his Adam apple to pop up."I want you to be my Luna."I choked, spilling the liquor in my mouth."W-what... did you just say?" I stuttered, my eyes widening in shock. I knew Aster wanted me close. I knew he had feelings for me. But I never imagined he would make my job so easy—so achievable."Aster...""Shhh," he hushed me, pressing a finger to my lips."Don't say anythi
FREYAIt was the same council leader I had reported the incident to. The same man who called me a lunatic. The one who dismissed my claims, as if a poor girl from a lower pack could ever expect justice from men whose pockets were filled by the Shadow-Moon family wealth.Linnet’s voice pulled me back to the present."Mr. Cornello, I can’t keep doing this. How long will you keep forcing me to sleep with you because of what happened in the past?""Think about what will happen to your family if the council learns the truth," Cornello sneered. "You killed Alpha Darius' daughter, Evelyn, just so you could marry Alpha Eric. Evelyn was his mate, and you murdered her before her wedding night. I saw you, Linnet. I saw you lure her into this room."Linnet broke down in tears."Is that why you always insist on using this room whenever we meet?" she asked.&nbs
Aster wrapped his arms around me, his hands resting on my waist. If Aster had been from any other family, I might have been charmed by his looks and thoughtful nature. His affectionate touches might have broken the walls I had built around myself. But he was a Shadow-Moon, and his family had wronged me in ways I could never forgive.I felt nothing for him—only the anticipation of meeting his cruel family.“Will that be okay with you?” Aster asked, pulling me from my thoughts.“Hm? Excuse me—what did you just say?”“Will two weeks be convenient for you?”“Of course,” I replied. “That will be fine.”“I’ll pick you up at the weekend.”“Okay.”He kissed me one last time before heading for his car.As soon as I shut the door behind me, I slowly slide on the floor holding my knees tightly. I wasn't weak or reconsidering my actions, instead I was excited. Can't stop imagining how destructive my revenge will be on the Shadow -Moon's. By the time I finish dealing with them, Aster will have no r
FREYA My gaze swept across the landscape, taking in the breathtaking scenery. The Blood Moon Pack was the envy of other packs—it was the wealthiest and most powerful, thanks to its ruthless methods of acquiring land and resources.Aster stepped out of the car and immediately pulled me into his arms. His smile deepened when our eyes met. He kissed my cheek and rubbed my shoulder."You don't have to be scared. My people won't bite," he whispered, leading me toward the massive mansion in front of us.I smiled, then frowned."Do I look scared to you?" I challenged.Aster didn't know that I was no longer the vulnerable woman he had helped two years ago. I was Valeria—their worst nightmare. He chuckled. "No, you don’t. If anything, I think they should be the ones scared—of your undeniable beauty and sharp mind."I smiled. He wasn’t wrong.I had dressed in a red, form-fitting gown hugged my curves. I had intentionally darkened my scar, making it resemble a small star tattoo. My blonde hair
A smirk playing on his lips.Aster cleared his throat, prompting Darren to release my hand."Forgive my manners, Valeria," Darren said smoothly. "It's in our blood to misbehave when we meet a woman as beautiful and captivating as you."Despite myself, I smiled. Darren found me attractive. That was a bonus.Casper cleared his throat, casting a pointed look at his son."Don't you agree, Father?" Darren challenged. "Who would've thought Aster would choose someone like her? Classy, elegant, and beautiful—just the way we like our women.""He is my son, after all," Casper mused. "Why wouldn't he? Look at your mother, look at Thalia. Don't they both look amazing? And now Valeria. We know how to choose the right women."They laughed."Yeah, we sure do," Darren added.Aster squeezed my hand, his face glowing with the silent message: I told you they would love you."Shameless," Abigail scolded. "Stop embarrassing the poor girl." Then she turned to me. "Don't mind them. That’s just how my boys
“You couldn't help what?” I asked. Before he could answer, a voice called his name.“Darren, is that you?”He turned—and there stood Thaila. Once beautiful and perfect, she now looked pale and disheveled.“Thia, what are you doing downstairs?” Darren asked, pulling her into his arms.“I wanted some fresh air and thought I could step outside.” She turned to me briefly before shifting her gaze back to her husband.“Who is she?” she asked.“Oh, that’s Valeria—Aster’s fiancée,” Darren replied. Then, turning to me, he added, “Meet my wife, Thaila. She’s been having a hard time because of our baby.”“Nice to meet you, Thaila. And congratulations,” I said.&nb
ASTERWhen Freya said those words, I thought to myself—she never really knew my family. She called them great; I called them greedy monsters who would do anything for money, with no exceptions for anyone—except me.I don't want to raise my children under such influence. But I also don’t want to hurt Freya or condemn my family in front of her. She seemed to love them, and they loved her too. Let things stay that way until after the coronation—then I’ll find a reason to move her into the Alpha quarters with me."But I still want us to have our privacy," I said and she frowned."Don't worry it won't be now"“When?” she asked.“We won’t move out right away, maybe after the mating ceremony and coronation.”“But I don’t want to move out. I want to live with your family,” Freya insisted. There was something in the way she said it, that made me st
I took the last brownie out of the oven and placed it on the kitchen counter. Then, I dished out the vegetable salad I had made for myself along with fried chicken. On another plate, I served the white rice and sauce I had prepared for Ryder. Carefully balancing the tray, I carried the food to the table.Ryder had already finished setting up by the time I walked in. He helped place the plates down before heading back to the kitchen to grab two bottles of water.By the time he returned, I had already started eating."Can’t you wait for me?" he asked."Why would I? I’m starving, and you were taking too long.""I told you, starving yourself doesn’t suit you," Ryder said, shoveling a heap of rice into his mouth. "I mean, look at what you're eating—just to be something you’re not."I envied him. It wasn’t that I wasn’t allowed to eat rice, but I had consumed far too many calories in the past few days with Aster
“She has everything to do with this,” Darius hissed without looking back. He continued brushing his hand through the girl’s hair, his tone sharpening like a blade. “You came into our land. You threatened our people. You thought there’d be no consequences?”He gripped the back of the girl’s neck, wrenching a cry from her lips.“You fucker! Stop it!” Emos shouted, trying again to break free. But the ropes held.Darius turned his head slightly, his voice now thick with contempt. “You dared come here to hurt our daughters. And now you beg me to spare yours?” He shook his head. “Why should I show mercy when you showed none?”The two adult women and the the boy stood frozen in horror as Darius manhandled the girl, their eyes wide and helpless.Emos’s gaze darted around the room, frantic, desperate for help—anything that could turn the tide. But Miguel and Alex stood still, arms behind their backs and their expressions unreadable. No help would come from them.Defeated, Emos dropped his head
“Because,” I said coldly, “my man shattered your spine.”Darius grinned wickedly.Without wasting another word on him, he turned to the second man. This one was quieter, more composed, but clearly in pain. His dark hair was tied into a ponytail, and tattoos covered his broad chest and arms. His sharp blue eyes fixed on Darius with silent defiance. The brown-haired one started thrashing again, desperate and futile. Even paralyzed, he tried to fight. He pulled against the restraints until his energy finally drained and his body sagged forward in defeat.“Now that that’s over with,” Darius muttered. He dragged a chair across the room and positioned it directly in front of the man with the ponytail. Then he sat down, one leg crossed over the other, and leaned back, studying his prey like a predator deciding when to strike.“Do you know who I am?” he asked softly. The man said nothing, his jaw tight, teeth grinding in pain. He refused to look away, but he wasn’t speaking either. I’d dealt
“Then make them talk,” I thundered, slamming my hand down on the desk. “Don’t make me think you’re useless, Darius.”The words echoed in the small room like a threat, and the tension thickened. My glare sharpened, my eyes darkened with the weight of my power. A frosty energy rippled through the air, curling into the corners of the room like smoke. But Darius didn’t flinch. Not because he was defying me, but because something in my outburst sparked a memory—something from a life he once lived, a title he once bore. The shadows deepened, swallowing the light, and I felt a sweaty drip on my forehead despite the cold.He clenched his fists, jaw tight, teeth grinding with a sound that filled the heavy silence between us. For a moment, we stared at each other, locked in thought—me, simmering with barely restrained anger, and him, standing with quiet resolve. Then, slowly, a small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, softening the tension like a sudden breeze. The darkness receded. And
I kissed her gently, her soft breaths growing steady as sleep claimed her. She curled around me like an octopus, wrapping herself around my body, drawing in my warmth as if it could chase away the ghosts of the night. I sighed, staring at the ceiling, the guilt settling deeper in my chest. I felt worse than I had before—worse than I deserved. Claiming her had been selfish, cruel even. And it had been her first time.Carefully, I slipped out of bed, unable to bear the weight of my guilt. My feet carried me toward the woods, blindly, instinctively, running until dawn began to stain the sky with pale light.I was just returning to my lounge, the chill of morning clinging to my skin, when Darius called. His voice was urgent. Our pack was under attack. This would be my first battle as Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack.Darius had been on patrol when he spotted the rogues. He’d rushed ahead to the scene and urged me to bring reinforcements. As I sprinted toward the pack house to arm myself, I ca
ASTERI looked at Valeria’s face as it battered in blood; her once smooth and flawless face turned brutal and masked with the blood of the rouge's, which made it look even more alluring. I wanted to touch her, to have her there and now, but she refused saying she was filthy. Did she know how intoxicating that word is? Yeah, I love my women filthy in every bedroom sense.Thinking of these, my heart clenched as I recall last night when she sat so close to my brother Darren. I can't stop feeling that she is drawn to Darren, or rather, Darren was drawn to her. Such thinking makes my heart clenched. When I came back home from the office last night and couldn't find her, I had to call her line more than twenty times. She left us at the hospital and rushed off, and I thought she was devastated because of Linnet's health condition and needed some time alone to process it, so I let her be, but when it passed midnight, and she wasn't home, I became worried and started calling her line. I
VALERIA My words must have caught Aster off guard. He stared at me for a beat, then a slow, dark smile crept onto his lips. His fingers grazed my cheek.“Alright then,” he murmured. “Let’s finish this.”He halted in front of a heavy steel door, punched in a string of numbers, and with a metallic click, the lock disengaged. The door swung open to reveal a private armory—walls lined with weapons, each one deadlier than the last. The room smelled of oil and blood, as if it had witnessed violence too often.Aster strode forward, selecting his gear with chilling efficiency. Guns, blades, explosives. War lived in his bones.“Take what you need,” he said, his voice low, urgent.I didn’t need to be told twice. I reached for the knives—long, silver, and razor-sharp. I’ve always preferred steel that sings when it meets flesh. There's something intimate about killing up close, about watching the light fade from your enemy's eyes. I strapped on as many as I could carry, changing swiftly into gear
By morning, my body ached in places I didn’t know could ache.Damn that wild animal. Aster had ravaged me in the most wicked way—and I had loved every second of it.The room was quiet when I woke, but he was gone. I forced myself out of bed and dragged my sore body into the bathroom. After a long shower, I returned to find breakfast waiting, delivered by the new chef, Enzo. I didn’t have the energy to face the Shadow Moons today. When Enzo returned to collect the tray, he handed me a folded note.It was from Thalia.“Meet me in my room in ten minutes.”I smirked. Little bitch, I thought, crumpling the paper and tossing it in the trash.Still, I decided to visit her before heading out to the pack house.Thalia was lounging on the couch sipping some nourishing herbal tea. Like ours, their suite had a separate sitting room, bedroom, private bathrooms, and even a mini kitchen. She looked up and smiled—calculated and fake.“Sit, Valeria,” she said sweetly. I obeyed, watching her carefully.
Darren recoiled instantly, pushing me gently aside as he rose to his feet. His eyes were wide—shock painted across his face.I didn’t have to turn to know who was behind us.Thalia.I wasn’t sure how long she had been standing there, but judging by the tight line of her lips and the distant flicker in her eyes, she'd heard more than enough. My stomach twisted—but not with guilt. Let her feel what I felt two years ago. The pain of betrayal.“Thalia?” Darren stammered, already moving toward her, his voice heavy with panic. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you asleep?”“I had a bad dream,” she murmured, stepping into his arms like she belonged there. “I woke up and couldn’t find you, so I came looking. I was about to head into the kitchen when I heard your voice… Valeria—is she okay?”Her voice trembled—just slightly. Enough to make her sound fragile, concerned and perfectly innocent. She was good.Too good for her acting. And Darren, ever the fool for her, bought it—like he always did.
"Are you really sending me away tonight? You're such a heartless brother-in-law.""You should have thought of that before trying to seduce me," Eric said coldly, walking into the house without sparing me another glance.I smiled faintly and turned toward my car. It was clear now—someone else was after Linnet. But who? When I arrived at the Shadow Moon mansion, the whole place was cloaked in silence. It looked deserted, the only signs of life being the guards stationed at the entrance. They nodded in greeting, and I returned the gesture before heading inside.Just as I stepped onto the staircase, I spotted Darren in the hallway. He appeared to be returning to his room but stopped when he saw me. He waited at the top of the stairs until I reached him.“Darren,” I called softly.“Valeria? What are you doing awake at this hour? Are you just getting back?”There was no point denying it. I sighed. “Yes. I went to see Eric. I wanted to know why he abandoned Linnet at such a critical time.”A
