Max ran his hand along her jaw, wanting her to wake up but afraid of what she was going to say. Once the shock wore off, she was going to be pissed that he didn't tell her about Zander. In his defense, he was about to tell her but then Lisandra's issue came up. That was a lame excuse considering he'd known Zander was alive for three weeks. He had been afraid to tell her because he knew she would hate his mother more than she already did and maybe despise him a little.

Not that he'd been okay with what his mother had done. Hiding their son and having them believe he was dead for two years wasn't right. For a moment there he'd hated her, especially when he thought she had something to do with his death. But in his books, she was still his mother. He couldn't completely resent her and Zander being alive was more important than dwelling on the whys. Whatever she had done didn't matter. His son was alive and well and healthy. Hadn't he spent day and night praying for that?

He only wish

Swallowing he went to the kitchen. Gaby was in his mother's arms, sleeping peacefully. He remembered that day in the hotel room when he'd wondered if it was right to tell her about his daughter. How long ago was that? It felt as if it was another lifetime. "She's beautiful Max" his mother whispered looking down at Gaby in awe. "She's an angel. I'll put her to bed. If you're hungry I suggest you eat because Emilia's shock is starting to wear off. My guess is that she's going to be pissed" "And she has every right to" Gwen spat out. He glanced over at her and was shocked to see the look in her eyes directed at their mother. They were close and rarely had any disagreements. For the first time, he wondered what had happened to her. She didn't look like the same little sister he knew. "I'll put the baby in bed then you and I are going to have a talk, Gwen" "I would like that very much because I have a lot to say to you both" As he was lifting Gaby into his arms, he noticed TC's hand w

"Don't you think you should calm down a little before we get there? You barely slept last night" TC said. Gwen threw him a glare before saying, "You should concentrate on driving. If we get in an accident, I will kill you first before I get to them" "You're really scary right now. Remind me not to get on your bad side, Miss Carter" "You already did. I let you off easy" "Why? Because I'm hot, sexy, have intense eyes, nice long fingers, goodness, I could go on all day" he mocked making her duck her head to avoid the embarrassment. She still couldn't believe he'd heard all that. If she hadn't been so angry last night she would have probably died from mortification. For the hundredth time, she wondered how that monitor had turned itself on. Gaby hadn't been playing with it and Emilia had been busy dressing her. Had it been on all that time? "Can you please pretend you didn't hear anything?" "Why? I like what I heard Gwen. I like knowing you've had dirty dreams about me because I

Gwen!" Max tried to slap her but Emilia stopped him. "Don't stop him, Emilia. Go ahead Max, slap me" "I know you're angry but you have no right to insult our mother. Apologize to her right now" "Why? Will apologizing give me back the two years I lost?" "What are you talking about?" "That's right. You were grieving for your son so the rest of the world didn't exist. But while you were doing that, I was popping sleeping pill after sleeping pill so I could sleep for a few hours. I was so scared Max, scared that those men would find me and finish what they'd started. I spent months locked in the house because the sound of tires screeching scared the hell out of me. If TC hadn't come for me, I would still be in that house, alienated from the outside world. Why did I have to go through that if it could have been avoided? Why did I have to get shot twice if mom could have prevented it?" "I didn't know honey, I really didn't" Genevieve cried but all Gwen could see was how no one cared a

Emilia hadn't thought Gwen was capable of being so angry and lashing out. She was the kind of person who followed what others told her to do. Lisandra had manipulated her so easily because she saw the best in people. Maybe that was the reason she'd never held a grudge against her. Most of the time, she didn't know what was going on until the last minute then she played along just to support her mother or best friend. But the Gwen that had told off Genevieve was a different person. For the first time, she had acted like a grown-up and spoken her mind.It was true that they'd all abandoned her. Granted they were all grieving for Zander but still, she was the one who'd woken up alone in a hospital room. Not only with two holes in her body but also ridden with guilt. Now that Emilia thought about it, the past two years must have been hard for her. The trauma of being shot must have taken a toll on her. She'd read about how victims of traumatic incidents needed assistance, both professiona

Oksana felt as if her head was going to burst. She had decided that Darren was too important to her. He loved her and she loved him, that was enough. She could put everything behind her as long as she had him. But she also couldn't let her brothers down. Not after everything they'd done for her. Other than her grandmother, they were the only people who had protected her, adored and spoiled her. If she didn't kill the man who killed them, wasn't she being disloyal? They deserved better. She couldn't let that man go. She also didn't want to let Darren go. After her brothers, he was the only man who loved her. She knew finding someone like him again was impossible. So it came down to her making a choice between the two. Her brothers or the man she loved. She could have her revenge and leave. Disappear without a trace. Thanks to her background, she knew people who could erase any evidence of her existence in New York. No matter how much money Darren had, if she wanted to, she could make

"Trent, I just sent you a photo. Do a background check and let me know what you find" "Cool. We're out of beer. Buy some on your way home" "I'm not your wife" TC grumbled hanging up but still remembered to buy the beer because he'd asked Trent for a favor. Any other day he would have ignored him. The guy always had demands whenever he called but the problem was TC couldn't ignore him because sometimes he needed him to dig up important information. Not that he'd disobey orders. They were a team and worked well together because they had a tacit understanding. But teams weren't always permanent. If Trent felt like it, he could request another agent to work with. And anyone would take him because, despite everything, he was excellent at his job. Having grown up in a rich family, he was accustomed to getting whatever he wanted. That was up until his parents found out the reason he was so interested in computers. Trent had tried to hack into the FBI database. He would have succeeded if

Shaking his head, TC sidestepped them, going around the house to collect her hidden weapons. Oksana had to have been well-trained by her brothers. They must have told her to always be prepared for a fight and it wasn't a bad thing. Most women could benefit from that kind of advice. Especially those who lived in an unfavorable or abusive environment. He found a knife under one of the chairs, another gun in the kitchen, and two in the bedroom. The one in the closet caught his attention. A sniper rifle. She could have easily taken him out anytime. What was she waiting for? Assembling all of them, he went back to the living room and put them on the table then took the one in her hand. "I think that's right about it. Did I miss anything else?" He asked observing her and coming to the conclusion that he had. Stepping closer to her, TC stared into her eyes then leaned towards her and took out the pins in her hair. After taking the weapons belonging to the dead guys, he nodded. Only then did

The guards were acting strangely. Lisandra had been keeping an eye on them and that's how she knew something was up. Ever since she stepped foot in that house, they hadn't let her out of their sight. Everywhere she went they followed. Kitchen, living room, bedroom, and even the bathroom. Their excuse? Her benefactor had told them to keep an eye on her so she wouldn't escape. It didn't make sense that she'd want to escape when she had nowhere to go but that bitch had insisted on having her men there. But before going to bed she noticed how they all sat in the living room watching TV. She had never seen them all together in one place so she thought maybe they were celebrating something or they had come to trust her. However, before she could get to her room, one of them got up and made it there ahead of her. He checked the windows to make sure they were locked then stood outside her door, telling her to hurry up. Normally they just let her do whatever she wanted. Lisandra dragged her

EMILIA & MAX He didn't have to worry about the kids. They loved staying with the Jennings, especially now that they'd adopted a little girl. Zander was fascinated by Blossom while Gabby treated her as her doll. Soon Max was sure they were going to have sleepovers and joint parties. He had an hour before his flight so he called Darren. Gwen's outburst had reminded him how he'd neglected them over the years compared to when they were young. He thought they were grown-ups and didn't need him anymore but they were still his siblings. Even when he was grieving, he still had to remember he wasn't the only one who'd lost a mother. They both had. Now three of them only had each other. There was also the fact that his girlfriend had lied about who she was and her actions had led to their mother's death. He couldn't imagine the kind of pain Darren was going through. "Hey, what's up?" "I brought the kids to the Jennings for the weekend and I have an hour. Wanna have a drink?" "No thanks. I

If you wake her up with your big mouth I will push you off the balcony" Sawyer bit back a laugh "My watch, I'm looking for my watch" "You have more than twenty watches, babe. Why do you bother looking for one?" "The one Em and Zander gave me when he was two. Remember?" "You lost it?" He screeched in a whisper. "I misplaced it. That's why I'm asking if you have seen it" "Why are you so careless? Have Cosima help you find it. I'm going to catch some sleep before that little devil wakes up" Sawyer watched him head to their bedroom thinking that he was thriving as a parent. It suited him. He loved being a dad and every time Blossom made a sound, he'd rush to see what their daughter wanted. The adoption process had been hard but it was worth it. He couldn't ask for anything more out of life. Well, except for having his friend back. No one could have expected t

THEA & PRESTON Thea looked around sighing. While newly married women were on their honeymoon, she was busy at the office trying to solve the latest crime which just happened to be a breaking and entering case. Because she'd held her wedding out of the blue, her boss had told her to first tie up some loose ends before taking her vacation days. She'd never wanted to punch the man so bad. It wasn't as if she was the only cop in the building and she was only taking two weeks off. At one point she'd even thought of resigning but she loved being a cop. So she was busy debating whether to ask for a transfer to another division. Could she be better at something else? Say traffic police or... The thought of it had her shivering. She would rather quit than join another division and start all over again. But as much as she loved her job, it wasn't fair to Preston. He was the one who had convinced her to get married hastily in an attempt to cheer up their friends. They'd only been engaged for a

DARREN Even though he knew the streets of New York like the back of his hand, Darren felt lost. Every time he looked up, it took him a moment to remember where he was and why he was there. Sometimes he'd find himself in a place but not recall how he got there. If he'd listened to Preston and not rushed to fall in love, he wouldn't be in that situation. A few days after his mother's death, Nadia, no, Oksana had gone to him and confessed everything. She thought he needed to know who she was and why she'd approached him. As if knowing she was the one who got Lisandra out of prison would make him feel better. If he had known what she was going to say, he would have chosen not to listen. He would have decided to only know his Nadia and not the woman she claimed to be. He didn't want to believe she was capable of lying and killing. Or that she had family ties to a Russian criminal organization. He'd fallen in love with her because she was different from the women he'd known. Innocent, c

GWEN & TC "Am I allowed to ask where you're coming from?" "I would tell you but then I'd have to kill you" TC replied. Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed her, a light peck on the mouth, and then deciding it wasn't enough, he pried her lips open with his tongue. Gwen sighed, opening up to him. He needed to come up with new ways to distract her from asking about his job. Although she wasn't complaining. He had a way of making her forget everything with only a simple touch. She tried to remember if anyone had ever made her feel that way. Was there anyone before him? She couldn't recall. No one could compare to the way he made her feel. "How long until we can go on that vacation? I want to be able to do this all day without worrying about..." Her phone rang. He jerked his head back smiling but she knew he was annoyed. "Damn phone calls" "What happened to being a supportive partner?" He drew his lower lip between his teeth. A sign that his patience was thinning. She answ

It was easy to picture them having a girls' day out together with Gwen and Thea. Gabby too. They would go to spas, have their hair and nails done, and do all the girly things she'd missed out on doing with her mother. Her mind conjured the perfect family gathering. With all her friends and family. Wouldn't that be something? "I felt the same way about Max. He looks so much like his father. I couldn't believe it" "Honestly I always feel proud whenever people tell me how much Gaby resembles me. It's so satisfying to know she at least takes after me and not her father" "She does. Down to the shape of your nose. She will break a lot of hearts when she grows up" "Hush, don't let Max hear that. He's embraced this Texan lifestyle. Next thing you know he's going to buy a shotgun to keep boys away from his daughter" Emilia had no doubt he would do that in a few years. The thought of him fighting with teenagers over his daughter excited her. She couldn't wait to see who would win. "I don

Seeing that man had made her feel uneasy. All throughout yesterday she was nervous and kept jumping at the smallest sound. Sleep evaded her because she couldn't stop worrying about her children. What if someone broke in and hurt them? She just got Zander back. Losing him would destroy her. Max must have noticed how on edge she was because he took the kids and Mel out, telling her to relax. It was his way of giving her a day off. But all it did was give her more nerves. Instead of resting, she went around the house, looking for something out of the ordinary. A broken window or door. Anything to indicate she wasn't overreacting. Her search stopped outside Genevieve's door. Since Gwen went off on her, she hadn't left her room. Emilia wondered if the woman was repenting. That was if she was capable of repenting. She wasn't a saint but she knew she couldn't ignore her child, especially if he was in the hospital. How had she done it? Genevieve sure was one of a kind. Emilia couldn't believ

Lisandra's heart skipped a beat just as realization dawned on her. She wasn't free. Those guards had known the police were on their way and they had left after getting rid of any evidence that could point to any of them being there. That was why the house was so clean. They'd scrubbed down every inch of it, probably getting rid of evidence like fingerprints and stray hairs. Son of a bitch, her benefactor had really called the police on her. But why? Their deal was to distract the Carters while she took her revenge. Had she had a change of mind? Damn that bitch to hell. Spinning around, she ran the other way, swearing she would rather die than go back to prison. When she got to the road, her legs quickened, hoping the police cars wouldn't catch up with her. The second they realized the house was empty, they would know she had escaped and start chasing her. As she speed walked, she tried to think of reasons why her benefactor had cast her aside.
