The cries were unbearable. The entire house was in an uproar because for the umpteenth time that weekend, the Lockwood’s latest additions, Jillian and Julian, were crying in their cribs. Claire managed to get one asleep, but then the other would cry, waking the other twin up. She was about to give up hope when she put both babies together in the same crib. Five minutes later, both were fast asleep, cuddling one another. She softly closed the nursery door and turned to meet the thankful eyes of Marian’s sister and the Luna of the Lockwood Pack, Jordyn.“How did you get both of them asleep? We’ve been trying for weeks!” she asked, impressed.Claire shrugged her shoulders, “When you felt bad when you were little and your mom wasn’t around, who did you turn to? I always think of my siblings, Steph and Zach. So why wouldn’t the babies?” Claire placed a hand on the Luna’s shoulders, directing her down the hall. “Come on now. You asked for some help with the babies, so I’m here to help. Go r
The conference room held a small group of wolves and one lone vampire as they sat around a small walnut table. One by one, the screens along the far wall clicked on. The rag-tag bunch of Mythicals definitely looked worse for wear. Everyone but Marian and Jack had minor cuts, bruises, and stitches that were already healing. The Alpha, Beta, and Gamma nursed their wounds, heads in their hands, when a small cough caught their attention.“Ahem. If you all are ready, would you mind explaining what in the fuck happened?” Leader Xavier was fuming. His eyes turned black as he looked to the Lockwoods for answers. Alpha Matt glared back at the screens. “We were attacked. Rogue wolves and vamps showed up. They hit our armory first, then took out the security towers before they went straight to the bunkers at the packhouse. Thankfully, they didn’t find the bunker, but they took on the Luna, MY LUNA, and went after my pups! They are lucky we didn’t find any of them alive.” His fists clinched, tur
“Hello, summer! Here we come! Mark my words, this will be epic!” Quinn screamed while bursting into the living room. She dropped her backpack next to the couch before pouncing on Claire, who was napping on the couch. “Ooooompffff. What the fuck, Quinn? Some warning next time would be nice.” Quinn rolled off of her and plopped on the floor. “What’s got your panties in a bunch? We’re supposed to go to the mall.” Her voice changed to one of concern when she saw her friend’s face.Claire’s eyes focused on the bright red envelope sitting on the coffee table. Quinn noticed and dove for it. “What the fuck is this? From Malachy.” Her eyes grew three times their size as she shouted. “THE Malachy??” With a shaky breath, Claire nodded her head in agreement. “I think it’s his wedding invitation…” “WHAAAAT????!!!” Quinn’s voice seemed to echo in the house. “You were messing around with an engaged man? Claire, what in the actual fuck?!” Claire clapped a hand over Quinn’s ridiculously loud mout
Marian loaded the bags into the back seat of her sedan.“Just don’t go crazy. No parties. No boys. No booze. In any form, in any order, and especially not together.” Jack pointed at a finger at his daughter, Sean and Steph. The teens all nodded their heads in agreement. “Yes, sir.”“Scouts’ honor, sir.” Steph held up three fingers on her right hand. “You were never a girl scout…” Claire stated with a questioning look.“I was a brownie for like four months when I was like 7. Once a brownie, always a brownie.” Steph cooed with a shrug of her shoulders. This caused everyone to burst into laughter.“Don’t worry Pops. You’ll be back before you know it. Tell everyone we said hi and you two enjoy Spain. I’m sure it’ll be lovely.” Claire hugged her father before he and Marian got into the car to leave for the wedding. They agreed to leave a few days early to enjoy themselves before the celebration began. Everyone stood on the front porch as they waved goodbye, watching until the car disappea
The palm trees swayed in the salty breeze, cool as it came off the ocean’s surface. Taking a deep breath, Jack took in the intoxicating scent as he sipped his whiskey. He perched himself along the white stone railing that overlooked the ocean from the steep cliff face. Xavier and Ramona walked up beside Jack with their glasses of champagne. “I’m surprised to not see your little family in attendance. Especially the little Claire. Is she doing well?” Xavier took a sip of his glass, waiting for Jack’s response.Ramona gave a knowing smile as he answered, “She had a lot going on and it isn’t the right timing for her to be away right now. But I will let her know of your concern for her absence.” He gave a half smile at Xavier, causing him to turn and walk away.“She will be fine, Jack. She’s a tough cookie and she will do wonders. You’ve raised an amazing young woman and you should be proud.” Ramona softly touched Jack on the back as she noticed Malachy walking towards them. “Your Highnes
“Good Morning, Sweetie.”“Morning Pops.”Jack was pleasantly surprised to find Claire awake and functioning this early. She was out pretty late at the cast party with Sean and Quinn last night. “I thought you’d still be asleep with Quinn and Sean. Y’all were out pretty late last night.”Claire took a sip of her coffee. “yeah well, I’ve been trained to wake up early and unlike those two, I didn’t drink. My stomach is killing me, though.” She tentatively rubbed her stomach slowly. It was tender, and she didn’t want it to feel worse. “I think I ate too much.”Jack just stared openmouthed at his daughter, “You? Ate too much?” He rushed to the window, plastering his face against it as he looked to the skies. “What are you doing, Pops?” He didn’t look at her, but kept his gaze outside. “Looking for the flying pigs…” He turned his head just in time for the towel Claire threw to smack him in the face. “You’re funny old man.”Walking to the coffeemaker, he poured himself a cup before sittin
The stage was set.The diplomas centered on the table, and the lectern placed on the far side. Aluminum folding chairs arranged into two columns and multiple rows with an aisle down the middle. The graduating seniors waited in the end zone to make their walk to the 50 yard line and leave their high school years behind them. Parents and loved ones filled the stands as they watched the sea of black gowns and hats, took pictures, and yelled at their graduates.Jack and Marian had a good vantage point of the stage as they waited for the ceremony to start. They were scanning the crowd while glancing at their phones.“I can’t believe she’d be late for this, of all things! Come on Steph. Pick up your damn phone.” Jack shook his phone in his hand when Marian put it between both her hands. “Calm down. Today is a happy day! Steph will be here before... Look, there she is!!” Marian shot up, waving her hands above her head, catching Steph’s eyes. Steph grabbed Brad’s arm and dragged him up to wh
The golden rays peaked through the leaves of the trees, the breeze causing the light to flicker through the branches. The clouds overhead were a beautiful mix of deep purple, lavender, and fuchsia.Claire sat on the deck with a cup of coffee in her hands, trying to take in as much of this beautiful, calm scene as she could. Everyone was still asleep in the house. Quinn stayed the night, so they could leave somewhat early. They loaded the cars with the essentials and filled them with gas, ready for the long journey to Chicago. They were hoping to get to the condo at a decent hour, so they could get settled in and try to explore the city before classes started in the fall. Muscular arms surrounded her, pulling her from her thoughts. “You ready for this?” Zach plopped into the seat beside her. She nodded, “yeah. Time for me to spread my wings and all that shit.” They both chuckled while watching the sun’s rays poke through the clouds. He nudged her shoulder, gaining her attention.
