No matter how hard she tried, Claire's past will come back to her. These vampires just won't leave her alone. Thank you for allowing me to tell this story. Don't forget to leave a thumbs up, comment, and share with your family and friends!
Knowing one of them wasn’t going to leave the alley, Claire took a defensive stance as she calmly spoke. “Just leave me alone and go somewhere else. I won’t say anything to anyone. Just leave and hunt somewhere else.” She wasn’t pleading, but giving him a chance to leave on his own accord.“Of course you won’t say anything, human. You won’t be saying anythi... AAARRRGGGGGHHHH!!”Claire ducked as the rogue vampire’s body swiftly slammed into the wall, then slumped to the ground. Another bigger black figure raised his fists and started landing blow after blow into the face of her attacker. Claire couldn’t believe what was happening: another vampire came to her rescue. The mysterious rescuer slowly stood up with his back to her as he straightened his black jacket and ran a bloodied knuckled hand through his hair. She knew that hand...“Malachy?!! What in the actual fuck are you doing here?!” She rushed to his side, grabbed his elbow, forcing him to face her. “Answer my fucking question.
Fresh coffee wafted into her bedroom, awakening her through her nostrils. Rolling over, Claire glanced at her alarm clock: 8am. It was later than she usually slept in, but after last night, she thought she deserved some rest. She padded barefoot into the kitchen to see a shirtless Lex cooking some eggs with Brady watching from the living room. Lex motioned behind him to the coffeepot, not diverting his eyes from the skillet. “Coffee is fresh. Now get a cup and sit in the living room. I’m cooking this morning and I don’t want to hear anything about it.”“Yes sir. No objections from me.” Claire made her cup and sat cross-legged next to Brady on the couch. “I could get used to someone else cooking around here.” The half naked man in the kitchen captivated Brady. Claire waved a hand in front of his face. “Earth to Brady. Come in Brady.”“Oh, sorry. I just can’t believe…”Knowing all too well what Brady was thinking, Claire nodded her head. “Did we have fun last night?” She loved teasing
Mal placed his phone in his jacket pocket. With a huge grin on his face, he looked at Lex. “Thank you, friend. I need to leave. Now.” As he walked past, Lex slapped him on the back. “You are very welcome. Now don’t fuck it up.” Wasting no time with formalities, Mal rushed out of his apartment to the garage with his multitude of cars. He opted for the black SUV and sped out of the garage like a bat out of hell.Within a few minutes, he was parking in front of her apartment building and running to the door. He pressed the call button for her apartment and a very male voice answered.“Hello. Unless you are a gorgeous man or have wine, we don’t want any.”“Um... It’s Malachy. Is Claire there?” He nervously glanced around. He could easily just break the lock on the door, but being gentle and practicing patience was essential. Claire was giving him a way in and taking Lex’s words to heart -he didn’t want to fuck it up. BUUZZZZZZDeciding against the elevator, he used his enhanced speed on
What just happened?Mal sat in his car, pondering the events of the day that led to him sitting in his car. Alone. Things were going so well, great even, when suddenly Claire shut him out and almost ran away from him at her doorstep. He glanced up at the building, finding her lit bedroom window, and watched her shadow pull the curtains back, then disappear as the lights turned off.“What are you doing, Little One?” he spoke to himself. He reached for his phone and dialed her number. The dial tone echoed in the car, then went to her voicemail. “Hi! Sorry, I’ve missed your call. Please leave your number and a brief message and I’ll call you back as soon as I can. Thanks and have a great day!” He could imagine the smile in her voice, and closing his eyes, he left her a message.“Please Claire. Tell me what is going on in that beautiful mind of yours. Please…” He wasn’t a man to beg for anything from anyone, but Claire wasn’t just anyone. He loved her, and he wasn’t going to give her up
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*Claire slammed her hand on the annoying alarm clock. 7AM came way too early. She rolled back into her bed, snuggling under the comforter, when she bumped into something cool and solid. Realization hit her like a brick. Mal was here in her bed, and he stayed all night. Her head rose to look at his sleeping form, her fingers trailing up his arm and down his chest gently.“You keep doing that and there will be consequences.” Mal spoke without opening his eyes, still laying under the blanket. He slowly opened one eye to look at her as she calmly got out of the bed and walked to her desk. She sat down, opened her laptop, and started typing. Claire needed to submit her last assignments and make sure the Foundation didn’t need any help today. She planned to only stay in this room with this handsome man, nothing more. She stretched her arms above her head and spun around in her chair to face Mal. “You must be thirsty. I’m sorry. I have nothing here.” Mal sat up in th
Patiently waiting in the living room, Claire and Sean watched some show called “The Big Bang Theory” when Mal stepped into the living room. With a huge smile on his face, Sean tapped the screen on his phone while Claire smiled at the tv. She silently mouthed “Quinn,” when Mal tipped his head in Sean’s direction. Smoothly, he sat next to Claire, but as soon as he did, she plopped into his lap.He held her close, kissing her shoulder, then turned his attention to the TV and whispered in her ear, “When did Sean and Quinn become an item? I thought that he and you were close. Especially when he volunteered to watch after you..” That caused Claire to cackle.“No. No. No- Besides being good friends, there is nothing between me and Sean. He only volunteered because: 1. He cares about me like a sister and 2. Quinn is his ‘mate’. If he couldn’t be around me, then he couldn’t be around her. So it was an obvious decision for him. One that I am thankful for.” She threw a pillow at Sean, breaking h
Claire had shoved her chair away from the table, and stomped towards her room, with Mal hot on her heels. “Wait a goddamn min..” She slammed the bedroom door in his face.Mal gritted his teeth and took a deep breath before entering the room. A bed pillow slapped him in the face as soon as he stepped in. He rolled his eyes at Claire’s childish antics. “Really? A pillow?”Seething in the opposite corner, Claire couldn’t hide the sarcasm and discontent dripping in her voice. “Sorry. I don’t have a wooden stake to chuck at your face.”Mal calmly tossed the pillow onto the bed before he walked to stand in front of her. He grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. “We both know a stake won’t do any harm to me. Now, care to tell me why I deserved a pillow to the face and why you stormed out of the discussion like a child?”Claire’s eyes burned in anger. “Really?! I can’t just skip out of town, Mal. There are people who depend on me; A job that I love. I can’t just leave with little
Everyone congregated in the living room when Mal and Ramona returned. Claire’s eyes met Mal’s, and they both smiled. “The foundation gave me the ‘all clear’ to take a few days off. My boss, Robyn, was pretty excited to hear I was needing time away. So, Mal, what’s your plan exactly?” Claire expected Mal to come up with some elaborate plan, but he shocked her when he lifted her from her spot, then sat her in his lap.Her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck when he spoke. “My plan is to get you out of the city, the state, actually, and have two guards come with us. They will meet us at the safe-house and will have already scanned the area for threats. So as long as everyone agrees, we will have about a week of hiding out while I have some other Enforcers keep eyes here in Chicago.” He nodded at Lex. "It’s pretty straightforward, so hopefully we are all jumping to conclusions and you aren’t being watched by some third party waiting to attack again.”Claire bit her bottom lip, noddi
Claire stood in front of the massive window, looking out at the Chicago skyline and sunset against Lake Michigan. She lost herself watching the sun’s rays slowly dissipate when an elbow nudged her shoulder, almost making her lose her balance.“Whatcha thinking, cupcake?” Sean crossed his arms and continued to bump into her, rocking her side to side. Her gaze focused on the reflection of the scene behind her. Quinn joking with Marian and Jack with Malachy behind them. His eyes found hers in the window, causing her heart to jump slightly. “You ever think that things happen for a reason? That fate, or whatever, knows the perfect time for us even when it hurts or feels like it’ll kill us?” She focused on her friend, who has been a rock for her over the last few years.Sean looked at Quinn and smiled. “You know I do. Shit. Look at you and me.” He waved a hand between them. “I had the hots for you and tried to charm and seduce you from the get go. Unknown to me, you were already head ove
Quinn stood with a battle stance, hands on her hips and her mouth and jaw clenched. Her wide hazel eyes burned holes into Malachy. He answered with his own eyes smoldering and his fangs elongated. Trying to ease the tension between the two, Claire stepped in between them with her palm in the middle of Mal’s chest and the other holding up her index finger in Quinn’s direction.“Everyone, calm down first.” She looked at her best friend, but her statement was more directed at Mal, since he could easily rip the small human apart. The couple slowly stepped out of the elevator with Sean wrapping his arms around Quinn, pulling her back further into the living room. If you could call it that. Claire made a mental note to look around this apartment as much as possible when she wasn’t trying to avoid a vampire attacking her friend.Quinn didn’t hesitate to jump Claire as soon as they set their bags down. “Care to fucking tell me what in the fuck is going on, Claire?! This scumbag left you t
“Care to tell me why you didn’t just kill the little human bitch when you had her alone?” Mirabella stormed into the extravagant office, unravelling her shawl as she went. Her red stiletto heels clicked loudly on the white tiles before she threw herself onto the sofa, then kicked up her feet onto the glass coffee table. She snapped her well-manicured fingers above her head, “what does a vampire have to do to get a decent fucking drink around here? Jeez!” A massive and dramatic sigh escaped her dark crimson lips. Her eyes found the dark silhouette against the wide windows, the bright sunshine against the mountains a stark contrast to the scene before her.“You could’ve ended all of this and gotten us out of this shithole hillbilly town. About fucking time!” Her hands clutched the wine glass before pressing it to her lips and swallowing deeply the thick red liquid.Sloane kept his arms behind his back, his body never leaving its position in front of the window. Closing his eyes and shaki
Claire let out an audible sigh. “Why is it that the drive back from a trip always seems to go by faster than when you leave?”Mal’s hand found hers, bringing it to his cool lips. “I promise you, we will be back there soon enough. That cottage has many memories now for us. Wonderful memories that I plan on replicating as soon as possible. But first,” his voice turned serious. “We need to make sure you and your friends are safe, then we can plan another long weekend away. Deal?”“Deal.” She leaned her head back and closed her eyes. “So stop by my place first? I can grab some more clothes and other toiletries for a few days.”Mal turned his focus back to the road ahead of them, nodding his head in agreement. “Lex and Brady are there now. Lex has been trying to convince Brady to spend a few more days at his place. But he’s a stubborn one. Keeps telling Lex he needs to check in on you. I think I like that kid.”She chuckled to herself. Only Mal and her father could get away with calling her
The rain continued its downpour, pinging as it hit the metal roof. Claire stretched in the bed, feeling the aftermath of the “strenuous activities” over the last few hours. She rolled to the side to find the bed empty, and she glanced around the room. Her eyes found the halo of light from behind the bathroom door. She slowly hung her legs over the edge of the bed, trying to get her bearings straight.Gingerly, she stood and looked at the clock on the nightstand. “Shit. It’s already 2 A.M. That went a lot longer than I thought…”A few tentative steps, and she was at the door to the bathroom. She could hear the shower running, but before she could even touch the door, it swung open and a very naked Mal stood in all his glory. She didn’t know why she was nervous suddenly. Her boldness from earlier seemed to dissipate after her little nap. “Hey. Are you finished in here?” She couldn’t meet his gaze until his fingers lifted her chin. “I was actually going to wake you to come join me, but
Claire had quickly changed into her cotton shorts and black tank top, then started her nightly routine. She stepped out onto the balcony, joining Mal to get some fresh air, and listened as the rain pinged off the metal roof. She wrapped her arms around him from behind, resting her face against his shoulder blades. He placed a hand on top of hers.“Your father and Marian headed out and are checking the perimeters as we speak. Marian texted and said they were staying out all night.” He slowly turned, embracing Claire, and he noticed she was biting her bottom lip. “You ok, Little One?”She didn’t know what she was doing, yet she knew exactly what she wanted to do. With a shaky breath, she leaned closer and whispered, “I’m perfect…” She craned her neck to look into his eyes, seeing the crimson color slowly swirling into the chocolate brown. And she licked her bottom lip.Mal closed his eyes to control himself. “What are you doing, Claire?” Her hands explored his chest, one grabbing the la
Everyone gathered next to the fireplace, watching the orange embers glow, enjoying their jovial conversation. Mal and Marian were sitting on opposite ends of the couch, with Jack and Claire sitting at their feet.“So, kiddo, what are your plans now that you’ve graduated? Trips around the world, working right away, nothing?” Jack leaned back against Marian’s legs, swirling his whiskey in its glass, intently watching his daughter as she quickly took a sip of her water. She shifted a bit to better focus her attention on Jack. “I’m not really sure what I’m going to do. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love working at the foundation. My coworkers are amazing and the kids are wonderful and so talented. I just feel like maybe there is something more I could do…”Mal turned in his seat to better look at Claire. “What do you mean? You love working with kids, you always have.” “Well, my actual plan kinda went to shit the second I left you all…”Piquing his interest, Mal leaned forward and tilt
“I’m going to go upstairs to prepare for my meeting. Will you all be ok for a few hours?” Malachy and Jack placed all twelve shopping bags on the kitchen counter. He looked back at the girls as they followed behind with bottles of wine, whisky, and beer that Marian insisted they needed for the remaining few days in the cabin. “We should be good to go! I don’t think I’ve ever brought so much alcohol in one trip. And that’s even counting my twenty-first birthday!!” Claire collapsed onto the nearest bar stool dramatically and threw her head back. “I’m exhausted. What’s for dinner?” Mal kissed her forehead. “Always food with you. There is plenty for you to whip something up in the pantry and fridge. I won’t be long.” He glanced at his watch before heading up the stairs. Claire watched his backside as he disappeared into the stairwell, biting her bottom lip.“I’ve got this chickie. Head on up there, put your shit up and jump that man in his office. I’ll keep your dad busy with the grill o
Gray clouds rolled in; a storm was brewing. The overcast skies and slight breeze caused a slight chill in the air. The steam from her coffee mug billowed into the air as she held it in her hands.“Storm’s coming. Should be a good one. It’s beautiful watching the clouds roll over the mountains, listening to the rain hitting the leaves, smelling the fresh rain. It’s a sight to see…” Jack stared off into the distance.“Cut the crap, Pops. I can’t believe you guys were just beating the shit out of each other. Do you have any idea how awful it was to witness that? To see my father, the man I look up to the most, pummeling his fists into the face of the man that I lo…” She stopped herself just in time. Jack rubbed a hand over his face. “You still love him. Even after all this time. After everything he’s done to you...to us. Claire, I can’t make you feel anything different for him. Just be careful. Malachy is a great man. I’ll admit that, but he has a past that may come back to haunt him. He
