The living room was dim, lit only by a few scattered lamps, and there, slouched on the couch, was Regan. His usually immaculate appearance was disheveled—his shirt untucked, his tie loose, and his hair a mess. But what struck me the most was the empty bottle of whiskey in his hand and the way he barely seemed to notice my presence as I walked closer. He was drunk.

I stood frozen for a moment, taking in the sight of him. My heart ached a tight pain that spread through my chest, making it hard to breathe.

“Regan,” I whispered. My knees felt weak, but I forced myself closer to him, ignoring the way the maids stood frozen behind me.

He sat slumped in the chair, clutching a half-empty bottle like it was the only thing keeping him upright. His head hung low. I knelt in front of him, my hand hesitating before reaching out. “Regan,” I pleaded softly, “please… you need to stop. You need to sleep. You’re—”

His eyes snapped open, bloodshot and wild, and his hand lashed out before I could even re

I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the faint outline of my reflection in the window. The storm had quieted, leaving only a steady drizzle against the glass. My chest felt hollow, the weight of Regan’s words still pressing against me like a phantom ache. The door creaked open, and I didn’t need to turn around to know it was him. His presence was unmistakable—heavy, like a shadow you couldn’t shake.“Anastasia,” he said, his tone sharper than necessary. I didn’t respond, my hands gripping the fabric of my dress tightly. He sighed; the sound laced with impatience. “Your mother called. She’s arranged a trip for us—two days at some resort by the coast.”I blinked, “A trip?”“Yes,” He stepped further into the room. “She thinks it’ll be… good for us.” His words dripped with disdain, but there was something else in his voice—a reluctance, a sense of obligation he couldn’t shake.I turned to face him, my eyes meeting his. “And you agreed?”He shrugged, “What was I supposed to say? No? Sh

The car pulled up to the edge of the beach, and as soon as I stepped out, the scent of the ocean hit me—fresh, salty, and oddly calming. I glanced around, taking in the private beach stretching endlessly before us. The sand was so white it almost looked untouched, the kind of pristine that made you hesitant to leave a footprint. I’d seen beaches like this dozens of times, from the Amalfi Coast to private islands in the Maldives, but they never failed to leave me in awe.“Wow,” I murmured, unable to stop myself. Regan didn’t respond. He was too busy pulling his phone from his pocket, already distracted as the driver unloaded our bags from the trunk. The beach house stood a little further back. The house was striking—modern, minimalistic, and drenched in sunlight. Glass walls reflected the ocean, and the sleek wooden decks were accented with lush greenery. It was the kind of property that screamed exclusivity, even by my standards. The driver handed me my suitcase with a polite smile,

I woke up slowly, my eyes fluttering open to the soft light filtering through the window. For a moment, I was confused. The bed felt colder than it had the night before. I blinked, trying to push the lingering fog of sleep away. I sat up, glancing around the room. The door was ajar, and the faint sound of something clattering in the kitchen caught my attention. Curiosity tugged at me, so I pushed off the bed, walked toward the window. I peeked out at the view—blue sky, the calm waves of the ocean stretching into the horizon—and for a moment, everything felt surreal. After a brief moment of peace, my stomach growled loudly, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten anything since the flight the day before. I made my way to the bathroom, quickly brushing my teeth and washing my face before heading toward the source of the sound. When I reached the kitchen, I froze in the doorway. Regan was there, but not the Regan I was used to seeing. He was cooking, his movements fluid as he worked over the

Soon after, I decided to step outside. Slipping into my favorite red dress—a flowy piece with delicate floral patterns that danced in the breeze—I felt lighter. The dress hugged me in all the right places. I let my hair fall loosely over my shoulders.Barefoot, I stepped onto the warm sand, Max trotting happily at my side. The beach stretched endlessly before me, the waves glimmering under the midday sun. I took my time, feeling the grainy texture of the sand beneath my feet, and the salty breeze brushing against my skin. Max wagged his tail enthusiastically, occasionally bounding ahead before circling back to me.After a while, I found a spot close to the water’s edge and sank down onto the sand, pulling my knees up to my chest. Max settled beside me, his golden fur shimmering like liquid sunlight. “You’re such a sweet boy, aren’t you?” I murmured, running my fingers through his soft fur. “I mean, look at you. You’re perfect. Too perfect to be hanging out with someone like me.” Max

As I stepped into the house, my heart still racing, I bolted to my room to get out of my soaked dress. I couldn’t stop thinking about the way Regan’s hand had felt in mine, or the way his gaze lingered just a little too long. I slipped into a soft, oversized shirt, hoping it would calm the chaos swirling inside me. But the second I opened my door, there he was again—standing by the window, his silhouette bathed in moonlight. “You changed fast,” he said, his voice low, carrying that teasing edge that made my stomach flip. “Could say the same for you,” I shot back, noticing his loose joggers and plain black shirt. He looked infuriatingly good, and I hated how aware I was of it. “You know, you looked really happy today. It’s been a while since I’ve seen you like that.” “Is that… a bad thing?” “No,” he said quickly, shaking his head. “Not at all.” We stood there, the dim light from the window casting shadows between us. The air felt heavy, charged with something I couldn’t name. His

His fingers brushed softly against my skin, trailing along my legs, igniting a fire that spread through my entire being. I let out a long, quiet sigh as his touch neared places that left me trembling, the anticipation unbearable. A gasp escaped me, my voice trembling as I murmured through the haze of pleasure clouding my mind, "Regan." I lost control when he gently trailed his nose up mine, his touch igniting a fire within me. His hands moved with such deliberate tenderness, removing my remaining clothes as though I were something precious. My head spun, overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment.A soft moan escaped my lips, reverberating in the quiet of the room, as his fingers glided over my skin, leaving a trail of warmth. The sensation sent shivers down my spine; each caress more electrifying than the last. His tongue traced along mine, the motion slow and deliberate, sending shockwaves through my body. My gasps filled the air, unrestrained and raw, as I felt the ache of desir

When I opened my eyes, the soft light of dawn filtered through the curtains. It took a moment for the events of the night to settle in my mind, and when they did, a mixture of emotions washed over me. Regan’s arm was draped around my waist, his body warm against mine. He was still asleep, his breathing slow and even, his face relaxed in a way I rarely saw. It was strange to see him like this—unguarded. Peaceful. I stayed still, not wanting to wake him, but my heart raced when his arm tightened slightly around me, pulling me closer.“You’re awake,” he murmured, his voice husky with sleep.“So are you,” I whispered back, a shy smile tugging at my lips.He didn’t say anything for a moment, his gaze unreadable as it lingered on my face. Then, almost in a whisper, he said, “You’re not what I expected.” I blinked, unsure how to respond. “What does that mean?” Regan smirked faintly, his thumb brushing against my hip. “You’ll figure it out.” Before I could press him further, he rolled awa

What’s wrong?”He remained silent.“Is it about Mom? Dad? What’s wrong? Tell me”Regan didn’t immediately respond. His gaze flickered to me, then quickly away, as if he didn’t want me to see the strain in his eyes. He took a deep breath and said the one word that shattered my heart.“No”The weight of Regan's words sank in, and my stomach twisted tighter with every passing second. I tried to process everything, but it felt like my mind couldn’t catch up with the emotions swirling inside me. The concern in his eyes, and the urgency in his voice, all pointed to something I couldn’t quite grasp, but I feared I already knew.I stepped closer, my heart hammering in my chest. “Is it……” My mind raced, hoping I

I sat on the balcony, staring out into the blank space. My head throbbed where the doctor had treated me. Sheila had left a while ago, saying she'd be back soon. There was food on the table, but I wasn't hungry at all. All I could see in my mind was Regan's face, twisted with worry, as he looked at that other woman, Zarina. It was like a broken record, replaying over and over.Suddenly, I heard the door open. I thought it was Sheila, but then my stepmother's voice echoed instead. She stood in the doorway. She wore a tailored navy-blue dress that hugged her figure perfectly, with a matching jacket draped over her shoulders. Her hair was styled in a chignon, not a strand out of place. Her makeup was flawless, highlighting her sharp features, and her eyes were cold, and calculating.I turned to face her, my voice flat. "What are you doing here?"She walked closer, her high heels clicking on the floor. "I called Ella, you know after your old maid Susan told me you went to a party. But Ell

“ANASTASIA!” I heard Sheila’s voice, but it was as if everything around me had slowed down.I felt my body slip, and then there was a sharp, terrifying impact. The side of the pool slammed into my head, sending a pulse of searing pain through my skull. Everything around me spun—twisting, distorting, until I could no longer make sense of the world.Someone grabbed me, pulling me out of the water. The dizziness started to subside, but the ache in my head remained, throbbing relentlessly. As my vision cleared, I saw Alan beside me, his face tight with concern. Sheila was already in the pool, frantically swimming toward me.Everyone else stood frozen, eyes fixed on the scene, their expressions a mixture of shock and confusion."Fuck," Alan muttered under his breath. His voice was tense, and I could hear the faintest edge of panic in it. “You okay?”I wanted to tell him I was fine, but all I could focus on was the sharpness of the pain in my head. I couldn’t think straight. I glanced up, a

My gaze drifted back towards Regan and Zarina, drawn by a strange pull. They were looking in our direction, and for a short moment, our eyes met. A flicker of shock crossed Regan's handsome face; the exhaustion etched into his features momentarily forgotten. He looked… weary. His usually sharp blue eyes were clouded with fatigue, the dark around them. His dark hair, usually meticulously styled, was slightly mussed, as if he'd run a hand through it. Despite the exhaustion, his undeniable good looks were on full display – strong jawline, sharp cheekbones, and piercing blue eyes that always captivated me.The tension in the room was thick, but I kept my expression neutral. As I watched Regan and Zarina from across the room, the pain flared again. After a few minutes, I took a deep breath and straightened up. “I’ll just go to the bathroom.”Sheila squeezed my shoulder reassuringly. “If you need anything, just let me know.”I nodded and made my way back to the bathroom, needing a mome

We pulled into the driveway, the festive decorations already visible through the front windows of Ella's house. Sheila parked the car and turned to me with a concerned frown. "Anastasia, are you sure you're up for this?" she asked softly. "We can turn around and head home if you'd rather.""No. I came this far. Besides, I wouldn't want to disappoint Ella."Sheila reached out and squeezed my hand gently. "Of course not. But if things get too overwhelming, don't hesitate to tell me, okay? We can sneak out anytime."Taking another deep breath, I forced a smile onto my face. "Alright, let's do this."We climbed out of the car and made our way towards the house. The cheerful sounds grew louder as we approached. As we reached the front door, it swung open, revealing Ella standing there, a radiant smile lighting up her face."Anastasia!" she exclaimed, "You actually came! I'm so happy to see you!" Before I could respond, she pulled me into a hug, the scent of fresh flowers and baby powder

Five days had crawled by since the trip. Since the storm Regan left without a word, leaving the mansion feeling even emptier than usual. The silence in the house seemed to stretch on, oppressive and suffocating. The maids had fussed over me all morning, urging me to eat, but the sight of food on a silver platter only turned my stomach. Nothing felt right. I couldn’t shake the image of him walking away, of his cold eyes, and the thought that he might be with Zarina now.Zarina. Her name lingered in my mind like a bitter aftertaste. I had no proof, no confirmation, but the way Regan had behaved—it made sense. Maybe they were together. Maybe that was why he’d stormed off. The thought of him with her twisted something inside me, something dark and painful. I didn't want to think about it, but I couldn’t help it. It was all I could think about.I reached for my phone again, fingers trembling as I unlocked it. I scrolled through the messages and then tried calling Regan’s number, again, for

As Alex pulled up to the grand driveway, I felt a lump forming in my throat. The house loomed in the darkness, familiar yet somehow alien after the whirlwind of the past few days. I unbuckled my seatbelt slowly, my hands trembling as I reached for the door handle. Before I could step out, Alex rounded the car and opened the door for me. “Hey,” he said softly, his voice grounding me. “You’re going to be okay. One step at a time.” I nodded; my throat too tight to respond. As I stood, he surprised me by pulling me into a hug. His arms wrapped around me firmly, shielding me for just a moment from the storm raging in my chest. “Call me if you need anything”“Thank you”He pulled away, his hands lingering briefly on my shoulders before he stepped back. I gave him a faint smile, the best I could muster, and watched as he walked back to his car. He paused for a moment before getting in, as if he wanted to say something else, but then he simply gave me a small wave and drove away. Turning

The car's engine hummed softly as Alex drove away, his focus entirely on the road ahead. We didn’t speak much during the drive, but I could feel Alex’s concern in the way he occasionally glanced at me, his brow furrowed with worry. I felt so exposed, and vulnerable, and yet there was something about his calm presence that grounded me. Eventually, we arrived at the house he had rented, a charming place. The rain was still pouring down in sheets, but I barely noticed it as Alex helped me out of the car and led me inside. The house was cozy and warm. He guided me to the couch, urging me to sit as he went to gather supplies. I watched him move around; his actions were quick but gentle. It was clear he knew what he was doing. “Just a few scratches,” he muttered as he carefully cleaned the scrape on my knee. The warmth of his touch as he tended to my wounds made me feel something unfamiliar, something soft, and I didn’t know whether I should be grateful or confused. His brown hair was tousled by the wind, a few strands clinging to his forehead as he made his way closer, his jacket sticking to his frame in the rain. The jeans he wore were soaked, hugging his lean figure, and despite the storm, there was a warmth in his eyes—a warmth that was the complete opposite of the coldness I felt inside.I could barely believe my eyes when I saw him standing there."Anastasia," he said again, his voice carrying a sense of relief mixed with panic. His face was full of concern. Without saying a word, he rushed over to me, kneeling beside me in the rain, his hands reaching out, but stopping just short of touching me."What the hell happened?"I could see the worry etched into his face, his brow furrowed, and his eyes scanning me, searching for answers. I just wanted to drive—to escape, to feel something other than the pain. I slammed my hands against the steering wheel, my fingers curling into the leather as I tried to steady my breath. “What the hell am I doing?”I was speeding, too fast for this kind of rain, too reckless in my desperate attempt to escape. The road in front of me was a blur, the rain so heavy I could hardly see past the windshield. The wipers swiped back and forth, but it didn’t help. Everything felt so... suffocating.“Why am I doing this?!” I muttered aloud, my voice shaking. “You’re being stupid, Anastasia!”The sound of the tires skidding on the wet pavement made my heart leap into my throat.
