Even after Xavier scolded him, Stefan still behaved like a nocturnal animal that lurked in the dark. He neither went out nor prepared himself to meet Renee, and just sat there gloomily for a long time. th8s turmoil between Renee and Stefan is getting old. in the beginning of the story, his family helped them with Renee family's with their bankruptcy, and were close friends and had nothing to do with her parents' death. what made the plot change. why should he be hiding next door.
