Allison's Gambit

Allison looked at herself in the mirror of her bedroom. The years had not been unkind to her, really, but the creases in the lines of her forehead said differently. She straightened her blouse and took a deep breath before she picked up the glossy business card lying on her dresser. "Sarah Goldstein, Executive Producer," it screamed, with a phone number embossed in gold.

It had been a totally out-of-the-blue offer, one of those reality television shows following her life as a single mother—rising businesswoman, all that jazz. "From Scandal to Success," came the title, and Allison had laughed at it, but she had not been able to shirk the opportunity.

Her cellphone buzzed with a text from Morris. "We gotta talk about this shenanigans of a TV series. Dinner tonight?"
