Chapter 22 : A Thank You Breakfast

I barely had any sleep that night even though I was exhausted. My mind was distracted thinking about the difficult mission ahead of us and my argument with Daniel. The rest of our shopping trip was awkward and we barely spoke as we threw things into our cart. Neither of us said anything after we put away the groceries and went to bed.

When I got to the kitchen the next morning, Franky was sitting at the breakfast counter with a cup of coffee in front of him. His kitchen was white and modern. He had state-of-the-art appliances that probably cost more than everything I owned, but it was a cozy place though.

“Good morning, Audry,” Franky said, giving me a sleepy smile. “There’s coffee in the pot.”

He was wearing his police uniform. As I got my coffee together, pouring cream and sugar into it, I thought about how different my life would be if my father hadn’t been murdered. I would probably be in my own apartment, drinking my own coffee, and in a uniform just like Franky’
