DOMINIC'S POV“Boss, they are closing in,” Barry said. “How do we have?” “About an hour,” Barry said, looking very certain. “Fuck!” I cursed under my breath. “We need to get everybody to safety and we need to intercept them at the gate.”I ran my fingers through my hair as I struggled to think about what to do. I knew Luca would attack, but I didn't anticipate that it would be this soon. We were not prepared. “Get everybody into the safe room and make sure nobody leaves without my instructions to do so,” I told Barry. “Yes, boss.” “Also, get our snipers in position. Ezra can't work, but we need to be ready with our weapons.” “He just sent the word that he has moved everybody to safety. He will stay with them until this blows over.” I was angry that I would not be able to have Ezra on the Battlefield. He was the best with his weapons and he never missed a target, but having him with us would only pose as a liability. I clenched my fist as the pressure of the entire situation w
DOMINIC'S POV The moment that I ended the call with Martello, I grabbed my guns and strapped them in. I also put enough backup bullets in my holster. Then I carried another gun with me in my hand. When I got down to the basement, Barry was already giving orders to the men and ensuring that each of them was ready. I knew that Luca was not going to hold back and I needed to make sure that I was ready for every attack that he would send my way. I needed to strike first and pull out all the stops if I wanted us to win this fight. The place was filled with tension as I walked to the front of my mansion. My body was humming with the rush of adrenaline that was passing through it. My men were in position, some were hidden behind barriers, the snipers were stationed on the rooftop and they were ready to start shooting the moment I told them to. “Martello's men won't be here for another thirty minutes,” I told Barry. “We don't have that kind of time and we are outnumbered.” I smirked at
DOMINIC'S POV The air was filled with the sharp smell of explosives as I ran towards the safe room with my heart beating so loud I thought it would come out of my chest. As I approached, I saw Luca coming out of the safe room with his arms around Daniella and Anita, his gun pointed at their heads. When I looked behind, I saw Emily right behind him with a gun pointed at his back; when he turned around and saw her, he let out a laugh. “Let go of them, Luca,” I demanded. “If a single bullet from either one of you should go off, I will kill these girls right now.” “We had a deal, Luca.” “And you broke it when you sent me the cheap product. You really thought I would not notice?” “Fine. I'll send you the good stuff, just let them go.” I tried hard not to sound like I was begging. I didn't want him to think that I still couldn't blow his head off. I was only being careful because I didn't want anything to happen to my daughter. “I am not falling for it. I'm taking the girls and you
DOMINIC'S POVI felt like I was going to suffocate from the amount of rage that I felt inside of me. There was nothing I hated more than disloyalty in my camp. When I found whoever was responsible for this, I would tear them apart and lead them to a very slow death. I will show them no mercy. I was already angry about the fact that Luca had outsmarted me and he had taken my daughter. Now I had to deal with the fact that someone who was supposed to be part of my team was responsible for this. I turned to Barry who was sitting on a chair by the window. His Jaws were clenched because he was just as angry as I was. “We need to come up with a plan to find out who this rat is immediately. The other men cannot know about this while we conduct our investigation. Just you and Ezra.” “Don't worry, we already have it covered. We are going to find whoever this fucker is and teach him a lesson.” Barry said through gritted teeth. “We need to go back to our surveillance to see if anybody has been
ANITA'S POV The place was dark and it smelled heavily like damp wood, dead bodies and gasoline. I felt like I would throw up from the stench. My wrist hurt from where they had tied me tightly to the chair. Dani was beside me. I could hear her breathing unevenly, but that meant that she was still alive. Luca paced as he watched us intently. He looked like a predator that was waiting for the right moment to attack its prey. “Maybe your father doesn't care about you as much as I thought. You've been here for three days and instead of him to meet my demands to have you back, he's in his mansion brooding.” “My father is going to come for us. You'll see. Every one of you will pay for this.” I spat out. Luca looked amused as he crouched down and grabbed my face. “We have a feisty one right here. I guess you're not as weak as I thought.” He let go of my face and stood up. “I hope you are right and your Daddy does come for you; if not, it will be your funeral.” He said cynically and then
EMILY’S POV I have not slept properly since that night. I was filled with worry and anxiety about the girls. Men like Luca were very terrible. What if he did something to them, like touching them inappropriately? He might not kill them, but he never promised not to damage them. I kept tossing and turning and finally, I could not take it anymore. I got out of bed and I went to Dominic's room. Without giving myself a single moment to second-guess my actions, I opened his door. Just as I had suspected, he was not asleep. He was seated in front of his desktop and his full attention was on the screen, but I knew he was aware of my presence. I closed the door and stood awkwardly, wondering what had brought me to his room in the first place. Deep down, I knew the answer. I was seeking comfort from him. In some weird way, Dominic had a way of bringing both chaos and peace into my life. He was dangerous, he was vile, he was ruthless, but he made me feel at ease. I can never really understan
DOMINIC'S POV “You can't really give him the entire shipment,” Barry said after I explained to him what Luca had demanded. “I am not going to, I just want him to think that I am,” I explained. He let out a sigh of relief. “That's better, but what is the plan?” “We have one week to find who the snitch is. When we do, we will try to get the location from them before we end them.” I said and then turned to look at Ezra. “Hope your legs are getting better; we will need you once we find whoever this fucker is". “Yes, boss. I can't wait to get my hands on them.” “Barry, are you any closer to finding out who amongst the three is culpable?” “Not yet, but I'll keep watching out.” “We need to interview the three of them one at a time. Maybe we can start with Enzo.” I muttered. “But we can't let it be known that we are conducting an interrogation. Bring Enzo to me.” Barry nodded, and then he left, and Ezra followed behind him. I leaned back in my chair, my fingers clasped together as I
ANITA'S POVI let out a groan as the pain from the rope tied tightly around my wrist bit into my flesh. I knew it was probably for the best for me to stop moving so much, but I couldn't help it. My arms hurt and the fact that I had been sitting for so long had become very uncomfortable. I just wanted to be away from this place. What was taking my father so long? “If you keep moving, the bruises will only get worse. Just sit still.” Dani said. She was very still, unlike me who was restless. She had been able to remain calm and I envied her for it. “How can you be so still? Aren't you uncomfortable?” I asked her. She turned to look at me. “I am used to things like this already. Plus, we have no choice but to wait for your father to come for us. There is no other possible way out of this.” I looked around the warehouse and shook my head. “There has to be a way out.” Just then, Luca and two of his men walked into the room. He had a mean-looking smile on his face as he walked closer t
DOMINIC'S POV The silence in the room was very heavy. The only sound in the room was of Emily clicking away on the laptop. She was so engrossed in the work, in trying to find anything that would help us take Crowley and Damien back. She spent the whole day on the encrypted server. “I can't really find anything more on him,” Emily said frustration filling her voice. I put my hand over hers and soothed my thumb over it. “Don't be too hard on yourself. Just take a break, and we can continue later. It's already getting dark. I think we should take a shower and sleep.” I told her. With a resolved sigh, she nodded her head, and I helped her up with my good arm. The pain from my injury was still very bad, but Emily disinfected it every night and dressed it. It was beginning to heal, but not as fast, and I could like it. Damien could strike at any time, and I needed to be ready. I could not do that with an injured shoulder. I hoped they would hold up any future attacks until I was
EMILY’S POV Dominic sat on the bed, still looking at the file. His jaw was clenched and I could see the calculating fury in his eyes. The way he went quiet when he was angry would be terrifyingly for somebody else, but not for me. It looked like a storm was brewing on the surface, and it was about to erupt and cause destruction. “This changes everything.” He told me, not looking away from the screen. He began to rub his temples with his good hand and I could tell that he was getting stressed. I moved to stand behind him, and I began to rub his back softly, which seemed to reduce the tension in his body. “We were focusing so much on Damien.” He said. “Trying to take him down, but all this while we were chasing the shadows. Damien is my brother; that much is true, and I think Crowley found that out and used what my father did to get in his head.” I nodded, releasing a slow breath and coming to sit beside him. “And if what the files say is true—and I believe it is, then we hav
EMILY’S POV I woke up feeling very groggy and sour from the night before. I reached out instinctively, my hand brushing against the side of his bed that was still warm. He wasn't in bed with me. I sat up straight, wincing at the dull ache between my legs. My mind went back to last night. It had been very intense and wonderful. Dominic moved in and out of me with animalistic strengths. He had an injured shoulder, but even that had not been able to stop him. Then he pulled me into his arms afterwards and whispered sweet words into my ears till I fell asleep. I ran my fingers through my hair, which was in a tangled mess. I wrapped the sheets tight around my body and walked to the window. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining, the sky was clear, the birds chirping in the trees. I couldn't help but feel a moment of happiness. But that feeling didn't last long when I remembered that danger was lurking in the shadows. Steven Crowley. A chill ran down my spine at the thoug
DOMINIC'S POV His Jaws were clenched as I spoke. I could see the obvious irritation on his face, but he was trying his best to conceal it. “Yes, sir.” “You've been my right-hand man for over ten years, and I am impressed with your work, and I've never had any reason to question your loyalty to me,” I told him. His features softened, and he looked happy with my approval, I could tell by the way his body relaxed. “Thank you, sir. It is a pleasure to work with you.” “I will be stepping away from my position for some time once this is over. I'm not getting any younger, and I need to work on building my family and producing an heir.” He turned to look at me like I'd slapped him across the face. “But things don't work that way, Dominic. Who will be in charge once you leave?” “You,” I said simply, and he looked like he was taken aback by this. “What?” He asked, his voice shaking. I've known Barry for a long time and it often took a lot to surprise him. He'd been through har
DOMINIC'S POVThe next morning, I peeled my eyes open slowly, and it was shining into the room. Emily was still asleep beside me, looking gorgeous and peaceful with the sheets wrapped around her naked form. I got out of bed, careful not to wake her up. I picked up my phone and sent a text blast to Victor, Barry, and Ezra. “Meet me in the basement, now.” I pulled on a tee shirt and a pair of black sweatpants, which took longer than usual because of my shoulders, which still hurt excessively. Emily was right, and I needed to get the wound treated by a professional. I'll have Victor call his doctor to take a look at the injury. I could not afford any distractions during this period when the threat from Damien seemed to be growing. When I got to the basement, all three of them were already there. Barry and Victor looked up and alert as usual, but Victor looked exhausted even though he'd spent the whole of the previous day resting. “Dominic, what was so urgent that you had to take me
DOMINIC'S POVEmily’s words kept playing over and over again in my head long after she said them. Dominic Moreno doesn't lose. I wish I had eleven of them with the same strong conviction as she did. I stared at the screen, at the man with calculating eyes staring back at me. Steven Crowley. The name did not ring a bell, although I had many enemies that I didn't even know about. So many people hated me. But the pattern of his involvement with Damien was what caught my interest. Originally, I thought that Damien had just been assembling thugs, but that wasn't the case anymore. He was building a strong army, and even I could not deny that he had very good alliances. It was obvious that that Crowley man was the brain behind what happened yesterday. Emily’s hands were still on my shoulders, kneading them softly to take the tension away. Her gentle fingers were very comforting. I looked up at her. Her hair was in a messy bun on top of her head, and her eyes were tired from sleep, but they
EMILY’S POVThe next morning, I could barely stand to look at myself in the mirror. My eyes were swollen from lack of sleep. My eye bags were probably the worst ones a person could have. My heart was also still very heavy with everything that had happened. Dominic was still asleep as I slipped out of bed. I had to be very careful so I would not wake him up. He definitely needed the rest. He looked more relaxed as a result of the painkillers he had taken, which had dulled the pain from his industry. I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, and then I made my way to Victor's study. The house was very quiet. Ezra and Barry had gone out to train the men, and Victor was still resting. That gave me the type of peace I needed to work. It had been a long time since I'd put my braid to good use, and I was excited. I sat in on Dominic's heavily secured computer. Just as he'd given access to his encrypted network right before he went to bed yesterday. Although I knew he did so with reluctance, i
DOMINIC'S POVThe pain in my shoulder kept me awake long after everybody had slept. Emily had insisted on staying by my side, but I knew that she was tired, and I made her lie down. The only time Emily genuinely looked to be at peace was when she was asleep. Whenever she was awake, I could see the worry in her eyes. I knew that she was having a hard time, and I felt bad because I put her in this situation, but I was going to make it right. Victor had gone to sleep immediately. His injury was not as deep as mine, but he was in pain nonetheless. Victor never complained, no matter how bad things got. I stared at the ceiling as I went over everything that happened in my mind. We had gone in just as planned. We had been fast and efficient, and we launched our attacks with precision. Everything was going well until ten minutes later when Damien's men began to attack. They were prepared—too prepared. That wasn't as a result of luck. They had been very strategic. And Damien was after me.
EMILY’S POV The car doors opened, and the men came out of the car one by one. Fear gripped my chest frantically as my eyes landed on Dominic, who was leaning against Barry with blood soaking through his white shirt. I immediately left the room and rushed downstairs to meet them. When I finally got to where they were, I noticed that Dominic's teeth were clenched in pain. “Dominic…” I breathed, walking towards him and looking him over. “I'm fine.” He muttered stubbornly through gritted teeth. “Your shirt is soaked in blood. You are not fine,” I said, placing his hand over my shoulders. “Let's go inside so I can take a look at it.” Victor appeared out of the car, clutching his side in pain and limping. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and I noticed that a nasty bruise was already beginning to form at his side, just above his ribs. Even though he was in obvious pain, he managed to give me a weak smile. “Don't worry, Em. We made it alive, just some minor injuries.” He said with a shrug, a
