Emily Pov I heard voices and footsteps approaching from outside the motel room. I looked at Daniella and gave her a signal to keep quiet. Soon, a knock came from the door,, and I moved quietly to the doo,r, holding out my gun. Then peeped through the doorhole lens. I saw two men standing outside the room. One of them was the receptionist who lodged us in. And I wondered who the other man was. “Who's there? I asked. “We are from the reception. Please open up; we received complaints from other guests,” one of the men said. “Is everything okay in there?” he asked. The whole place was still rumpled thanks to me and my mental breakdown. I didn’t want them to see the damage I had done to the room. “Ehn… Yeah, everything is fine here, there's nothing to worry about. Sorry about the noise… I was playing some games with my sister.”I tried convincing them. “Yeah, but we still need to see for ourselves, mam. So would you please open the door?” the other man insisted. “Shit” I muttered un
Adam Pov It was around 11pm when we arrived at the motel. I had intercepted a distress call from the motel management concerning a woman who fit Emily's description. We had put out a Red notice to aid the capture of Dominic and his gang. All emergency calls were intercepted and recorded. So when the report came from the motel I took one of my trusted agents with me. The motel was in a secluded area, perfect for those who don't want to be found. We held straight to the reception and met a lady and two men. “Good evening, we are with the police,” I said, flashing my badge. “We received a call about a disturbing guest staying in your motel”“Yes officer, I was the one who called,” One of the men said. He moved closer to me. “I am Mr Gregory, the manager of this motel” " he said. “Alright Mr Gregory, would you confirm that the guests are still present in the motel?”I asked. I wasn't on for any pleasantries. I just wanted to confirm if it was Emily. I needed to take care of things be
EMILY’S POV I drove for a very long time till we finally got to my house on a private island. Adam and some agents had come looking for me at the motel and I was glad that we were able to leave before they arrived. Nobody knew about the Island and I bought it a long time ago under another name. I came here from time to time to clear my head when things became too much and right now… things were too much. “Where is this place?” Daniella asked as we came out of the car. “It's my property. It's on the outskirts of town and I am sure that nobody will find us here.” I told her. When I turned to look at her, she was beaming at the house in front of us. It wasn't a big house; it was a four-bedroom bungalow. I didn't actually buy it, it had been gifted to me by my father. “Wow. This place is gorgeous!” Daniella squealed. I smiled at her. “Thank you. We better head inside. I am exhausted and I am sure you are too after the long trip. You can freshen up for a bit and then we can get start
EMILY’S POV I stared at my laptop screen in shock as I looked at Adam's profile. I was now determined to know everything about him so I would know how to get back at him. The information I had uncovered so far was chilling. Dominic had been right about everything all along. Adam was a corrupt agent and I could not believe I had been working with him for so long without finding out. It had me thinking about how many missions I have worked on with him and he had manipulated me into thinking they were the bad guys when all along it was him. A big part of me also wanted to believe that everything he'd told me about Dominic might have been fabricated so that he could use me to get to Dominic. I shot down my laptop and moved outside to get some air. The information was too much for me. I didn't know how I had gotten mixed up in so much drama. Everything was like a Web of lies and it would take a whole lot to unravel it. I had very few resources that would aid me in taking Adam down, but
DOMINIC'S POVEmily stared at me with suspicion and contempt as she waited for me to tell her everything. I wondered if she realized that she was only wearing a thin, short nightgown and it was increasingly distracting. I had to fight hard to stop my eyes from wandering down to her body and I kept my gaze on her face. “The clock is ticking. Are you going to start talking now?” She muttered. I smirked at the fact that she was trying to be tough. She could try all she wanted, but she could never intimidate me. “Look, you're right. I have not been honest with you, but not for the reasons that you believe.” I started, all of a sudden feeling anxious about how she might react to what I had to tell her. If it was left to me, I would keep this to myself forever but I didn't have a choice. Adam had changed the story and was using it to pit us against each other. Emily straightened and gave me a look that told me she was waiting for me to continue. “I lied when I said I didn't know your f
EMILY’S POV My breathing stopped as Dominic stared at me intently. I knew that we should not be in a situation like this and I knew that I should leave, but I couldn't get myself to move. “You can't do anything I don't want you to,” I said, but it didn't come out as strong as I wanted it to, it came out as a whisper. Dominic gave me a small smile. “I don't think I will be doing anything you don't want me to do.” He responded. Our faces were so close that I didn't realize that we had even moved closer to each other. Dominic was staring into my eyes intensely and I could see the burning desire in them. It did something to me to see that he wanted me. I was wrestling with myself. I knew this was a bad idea. Everything in me was screaming for me to run away. His gaze dropped to my lips. “Ti desidero così tanto.” He whispered in Italian. “What does that mean?” I asked before I could think better of it. “Are you sure you can handle it if I told you, princess?” His voice was low as he
EMILY’S POV “You don't really intend on staying here, do you?” I asked Dominic incredulously. It was the next morning and somehow, we had managed to pretend like the kiss last night didn't happen. Although, the atmosphere around us was still electric. “Yes, I do. How else do you think I can protect you? And you will come with me to Italy. I don't know how much longer this place will be safe.” Dominic said. “I already told you, I do not need protection. I can take care of myself.” I said strongly. “You are so stubborn. You do realize you can't hide out forever. Adam will find you and what are you going to do then? Huh? You have no weapon and Adam has men, you can't take them down alone.” He spat out. I glared at him. I knew he was right, but I also didn't like to be made to feel like I was weak and like I could not handle things on my own. “I can handle Adam. I've worked with him for a long time. I just need to clear my name.” Dominic let out a humourless laugh. “That son of a b
DOMINIC'S POV “So…” Emily said, breaking the silence between us. “About going to Italy… I don't think it is a good idea.” She said, I narrowed my eyes on her. “What do you think is a good idea then? Staying here and waiting for Adam to come and get you?” “You don't understand. I need to clear my name, and if I run away, then I look guilty.” She spat out. I gave a humourless laugh and I walked closer to her. “Have you seen the news lately? You fled arrest from the hotel. You already look guilty in the eyes of the public and you are in danger.” Her eyes filled up with tears, and for the first time, I could see the fear that she had been trying to conceal behind the wall that she'd built up. She's gotten so used to fending for herself that she doesn't know how to let someone else protect her. I moved closer to her and I brought my hands to her cheeks. “It's not safe here, Emily. Adam has very strong connections and he has a lot of people in his pocket. What I want is to keep you sa
DOMINIC'S POV The silence in the room was very heavy. The only sound in the room was of Emily clicking away on the laptop. She was so engrossed in the work, in trying to find anything that would help us take Crowley and Damien back. She spent the whole day on the encrypted server. “I can't really find anything more on him,” Emily said frustration filling her voice. I put my hand over hers and soothed my thumb over it. “Don't be too hard on yourself. Just take a break, and we can continue later. It's already getting dark. I think we should take a shower and sleep.” I told her. With a resolved sigh, she nodded her head, and I helped her up with my good arm. The pain from my injury was still very bad, but Emily disinfected it every night and dressed it. It was beginning to heal, but not as fast, and I could like it. Damien could strike at any time, and I needed to be ready. I could not do that with an injured shoulder. I hoped they would hold up any future attacks until I was
EMILY’S POV Dominic sat on the bed, still looking at the file. His jaw was clenched and I could see the calculating fury in his eyes. The way he went quiet when he was angry would be terrifyingly for somebody else, but not for me. It looked like a storm was brewing on the surface, and it was about to erupt and cause destruction. “This changes everything.” He told me, not looking away from the screen. He began to rub his temples with his good hand and I could tell that he was getting stressed. I moved to stand behind him, and I began to rub his back softly, which seemed to reduce the tension in his body. “We were focusing so much on Damien.” He said. “Trying to take him down, but all this while we were chasing the shadows. Damien is my brother; that much is true, and I think Crowley found that out and used what my father did to get in his head.” I nodded, releasing a slow breath and coming to sit beside him. “And if what the files say is true—and I believe it is, then we hav
EMILY’S POV I woke up feeling very groggy and sour from the night before. I reached out instinctively, my hand brushing against the side of his bed that was still warm. He wasn't in bed with me. I sat up straight, wincing at the dull ache between my legs. My mind went back to last night. It had been very intense and wonderful. Dominic moved in and out of me with animalistic strengths. He had an injured shoulder, but even that had not been able to stop him. Then he pulled me into his arms afterwards and whispered sweet words into my ears till I fell asleep. I ran my fingers through my hair, which was in a tangled mess. I wrapped the sheets tight around my body and walked to the window. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining, the sky was clear, the birds chirping in the trees. I couldn't help but feel a moment of happiness. But that feeling didn't last long when I remembered that danger was lurking in the shadows. Steven Crowley. A chill ran down my spine at the thoug
DOMINIC'S POV His Jaws were clenched as I spoke. I could see the obvious irritation on his face, but he was trying his best to conceal it. “Yes, sir.” “You've been my right-hand man for over ten years, and I am impressed with your work, and I've never had any reason to question your loyalty to me,” I told him. His features softened, and he looked happy with my approval, I could tell by the way his body relaxed. “Thank you, sir. It is a pleasure to work with you.” “I will be stepping away from my position for some time once this is over. I'm not getting any younger, and I need to work on building my family and producing an heir.” He turned to look at me like I'd slapped him across the face. “But things don't work that way, Dominic. Who will be in charge once you leave?” “You,” I said simply, and he looked like he was taken aback by this. “What?” He asked, his voice shaking. I've known Barry for a long time and it often took a lot to surprise him. He'd been through har
DOMINIC'S POVThe next morning, I peeled my eyes open slowly, and it was shining into the room. Emily was still asleep beside me, looking gorgeous and peaceful with the sheets wrapped around her naked form. I got out of bed, careful not to wake her up. I picked up my phone and sent a text blast to Victor, Barry, and Ezra. “Meet me in the basement, now.” I pulled on a tee shirt and a pair of black sweatpants, which took longer than usual because of my shoulders, which still hurt excessively. Emily was right, and I needed to get the wound treated by a professional. I'll have Victor call his doctor to take a look at the injury. I could not afford any distractions during this period when the threat from Damien seemed to be growing. When I got to the basement, all three of them were already there. Barry and Victor looked up and alert as usual, but Victor looked exhausted even though he'd spent the whole of the previous day resting. “Dominic, what was so urgent that you had to take me
DOMINIC'S POVEmily’s words kept playing over and over again in my head long after she said them. Dominic Moreno doesn't lose. I wish I had eleven of them with the same strong conviction as she did. I stared at the screen, at the man with calculating eyes staring back at me. Steven Crowley. The name did not ring a bell, although I had many enemies that I didn't even know about. So many people hated me. But the pattern of his involvement with Damien was what caught my interest. Originally, I thought that Damien had just been assembling thugs, but that wasn't the case anymore. He was building a strong army, and even I could not deny that he had very good alliances. It was obvious that that Crowley man was the brain behind what happened yesterday. Emily’s hands were still on my shoulders, kneading them softly to take the tension away. Her gentle fingers were very comforting. I looked up at her. Her hair was in a messy bun on top of her head, and her eyes were tired from sleep, but they
EMILY’S POVThe next morning, I could barely stand to look at myself in the mirror. My eyes were swollen from lack of sleep. My eye bags were probably the worst ones a person could have. My heart was also still very heavy with everything that had happened. Dominic was still asleep as I slipped out of bed. I had to be very careful so I would not wake him up. He definitely needed the rest. He looked more relaxed as a result of the painkillers he had taken, which had dulled the pain from his industry. I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, and then I made my way to Victor's study. The house was very quiet. Ezra and Barry had gone out to train the men, and Victor was still resting. That gave me the type of peace I needed to work. It had been a long time since I'd put my braid to good use, and I was excited. I sat in on Dominic's heavily secured computer. Just as he'd given access to his encrypted network right before he went to bed yesterday. Although I knew he did so with reluctance, i
DOMINIC'S POVThe pain in my shoulder kept me awake long after everybody had slept. Emily had insisted on staying by my side, but I knew that she was tired, and I made her lie down. The only time Emily genuinely looked to be at peace was when she was asleep. Whenever she was awake, I could see the worry in her eyes. I knew that she was having a hard time, and I felt bad because I put her in this situation, but I was going to make it right. Victor had gone to sleep immediately. His injury was not as deep as mine, but he was in pain nonetheless. Victor never complained, no matter how bad things got. I stared at the ceiling as I went over everything that happened in my mind. We had gone in just as planned. We had been fast and efficient, and we launched our attacks with precision. Everything was going well until ten minutes later when Damien's men began to attack. They were prepared—too prepared. That wasn't as a result of luck. They had been very strategic. And Damien was after me.
EMILY’S POV The car doors opened, and the men came out of the car one by one. Fear gripped my chest frantically as my eyes landed on Dominic, who was leaning against Barry with blood soaking through his white shirt. I immediately left the room and rushed downstairs to meet them. When I finally got to where they were, I noticed that Dominic's teeth were clenched in pain. “Dominic…” I breathed, walking towards him and looking him over. “I'm fine.” He muttered stubbornly through gritted teeth. “Your shirt is soaked in blood. You are not fine,” I said, placing his hand over my shoulders. “Let's go inside so I can take a look at it.” Victor appeared out of the car, clutching his side in pain and limping. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and I noticed that a nasty bruise was already beginning to form at his side, just above his ribs. Even though he was in obvious pain, he managed to give me a weak smile. “Don't worry, Em. We made it alive, just some minor injuries.” He said with a shrug, a
