While Freyge had gone to collect herbs and potions for the alpha’s journey to the Burham mountains, Valencia had gone to pack some stuff in a duffel bag. She didn't have much to pack though, only two sets of clean clothes, a pair of daggers, and she was done.
Dominic didn't even bother carrying clothes and he just wore a long jacket with loads of pockets that he stuffed with daggers, and the potions Freyge had got for him.
Normally, they would just transform back into their human forms with their clothes intact, a blessing given by the moon goddess to make them feel less awkward if they were around other werewolves.
They could never have been thankful for a more suitable gift that helped him in battles, during the rare occasions that they would lose their wolf’s control or when they are turned for the first time.
Thirty minutes later, they all met outside Valencia’s home. She slung her bag around her shoulder and looked at Dominic to see if he h
Despite all his protests, Valencia didn’t bat an eyelid and Dominic had no other option but to follow her. As it was dark, Valencia took advantage of the fact and drove towards the nearest station and filled up the tank to the full. The guy at the station eyed them weirdly as the bike was a little out of fashion but before he could say something, Valencia drove off after Dominic managed to throw a wad of notes at her. Valencia throttled the engine and zoomed through the forest not even letting Dominic get a firm grip on the bike. He wasn’t sure what made Valencia suddenly behave differently. She had been all serious before leaving her home but then the moment they left it was as if something changed. “Will you please let me know what has gotten into you?” He asked her though his voice drowned due to wind rustling past them. Valencia was driving the bike through the dirt paved road that was riddled with roots, rocks, and uneven land. Ther
Dominic was thrown on his back uncomfortably, the rope digging into his skin while Valencia lay on top of him. They were both suspended in the air, around twenty feet high and there was no sign of anyone who would either hunt or rescue them. The alpha tried to sound amusing, “Looks like whoever the hunter was, set the trap and forgot all about it.”Though even his voice sounded off to him. The heat was rushing to his cheeks once again as Valencia was sprawled against him, her knees bent awkwardly.“Can we try to get up?” She asked him hesitantly. He tried to stop his voice from shaking, “Not me, I have fallen enough times already. You may do as you please.”Valencia looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, “You dare talk to your archon like that?”A ghost of a smile appeared on the alpha’s lips as he countered her, “The archon drove through the forest like a raging bull, crashed the bike in a
They hadn’t moved in the last few minutes and awkward silence was around them once again. Thus, Dominic cleared his throat and asked her, “Are you…okay?” Valencia nodded her head and pulled her hair away from his face. Her fingers brushed his lips and that was when Dominic’s eyes met hers. They were emerald green as always, shining with a fervor that she couldn't quite put a finger on. She hesitated and answered, “Yes” Dominic tried his best to straighten his legs as much as he could and said to her, “the hunter might come early morning to check if any of his snares caught a prey…so…it might do us good to rest a little.” Again, Valencia just answered with a small “Yes.” She didn't say anything else. It was as if her mouth refused to speak. He extended a hand for her to use as a pillow and turned his head away, closing his eyes to fall asleep. Valencia saw the dozen cuts his hands had received all the while when she was jumping around. That mad
The leaves parting on the horizon indicated that there were hycwens coming for them because there weren’t many beasts that tall, not at least, what they knew of. Dominic pulled out the daggers from his inner pockets and Valencia’s eyes went wide. “Why didn’t you use them to cut through the ropes?” She asked him disbelievingly. “We could have been halfway through the Burham mountains by now.” Well, she did have a point. However, Dominic had his reasons. “Had I freed us right away, you would have made me sit on that infernal bike again. I hate it.” He had expected her to be angry or irritated at him for wasting time but what he didn't expect was that a small smile appeared on her face. “What?” He asked her in the same tone and she let out a chuckle. Her laughter was music to his ears and it felt like all the ache and pain had been washed away, making him feel revitalized. However, he didn't let that show on his face. Befo
“I knew it” The archon had said with an excited voice but it got drowned amongst the ruckus caused by the other hycwens that she hadn’t seen earlier. They had reached a deeper part of the forest or someplace they couldn't quite put their fingers on. There was a clearing in the middle and large tree stumps were placed in a circle where most of the hycwens were seated apparently arguing over something. The hycwen carrying the rope trap in which Valencia and Dominic were present dumped it unceremoniously on the ground, sending them crashing into soil and gravel once again. All of the hycwens cackled like the beasts they were, their hideous brownish yellow teeth glinting in the sun. However, what astonished the two alphas was the presence of a person, a human amongst them. It was hard to make out the features of the person because he was wearing a large and oversized cloak that covered him from head to toe. The only thing that made
Dominic had rushed towards Valencia who had transformed back into her human form. He wasn’t sure if she was under the influence of the curse or if she had acted out of instinct. She was lying on the ground, her hair sprawled all over the grass so Dominic gently scooted towards her and turned her face. She was unconscious but alive. Patting her face, he tried to wake her up to no avail. Recalling the potions, Freyge had handed them, the alpha quickly checked his pockets that held one of the many pouches in which he had given him various powders and some vials. Rummaging through his pockets, he found one vial that was named ‘For energy’ and hastily unstoppered it. Holding valencia’s mouth wide open with one hand, he poured the entire contents of the vial in her mouth and forced it close. There were almost a dozen such vials so he thought maybe she needed a more, stronger dose. Hence, he was about to unstopper another vial when the human made a spe
Curious, he turned around to see that the table was beginning to glow in a soft golden light. Or rather the symbols carved into the table were. They began to glow in an ethereal light, one that was slowly seeping into Valencia’s body from everywhere. Now, that they were shining could he truly look at them clearly. They had been etched into the cold black marble and were strangely shaped letters, diagrams, and circles, overlapping each other. Astonished, Dominic only watched in a daze as Valencia was flooded with the light that her body absorbed greedily. The soft light kept seeping into her as the woman kept chanting in utter concentration and tightly shut eyes. As light spilled in the room, Dominic could make out the interior which was empty save the table in the center. There were columns along the cavern walls that also had these odd symbols and some statues. Wanting to inspect them, he inched closer to the columns, and only now did he realize that
Valencia and Dominic did nothing but exchange glances while Mydra let them digest this news. She knew that it was shocking enough for both of them to hear her say everything she had said so far. But after the things she had witnessed, she couldn’t think of it as anything else other than a minor inconvenience. So, while the two werewolves digested the shocking piece of information, Mydra pulled a wooden chair near her and sat down. Valencia looked at her face, she looked old and weary. There were patches of grey in her hair and wrinkles around her eyes and forehead. It had been quite a few days since she had seen her or met her. If she were to recall and strain her memory, maybe she hadn’t seen her in years, the only communication had been a quick call to ensure her niece and nephew’s safety when they were born. Valencia hated politics and administrative stuff which was boring to her, only the thrill of battle and killing the hycwens and securing her t
Valencia let out a growl on hearing that. “How could you, Trecdor? She is a little girl…all these days…I have been living with the guilt of scaring her and it was you all along?” Trecdor spat at her words in disgust, “Trecdor? Do you dare call me by my name? Where is your respect for the Coven's head?” Valencia meanwhile kept glaring at him, “You lost it when you sent an untrained, tainted werewolf after my niece, you don’t have the right to that seat after what you have been doing to the humans…” Dominic tried to mind link her, “Keep him busy talking, I’ll try to untie the knots holding me to this filthy pillar.” She was startled to hear his voice in her head all of a sudden but Trecdor only took it as the reaction to his betrayal. To goad her further, he added, What use is she to me? Well, if she grows up and is capable of birthing a wolf then she may be of some use…if not, she is a burden on our community…like yo
After ensuring that the car was safely hidden out of view, both of them stepped out of it and peered through the gate.Luckily nobody had come running towards the gate when it had creaked loudly. So they believed that it could either mean that whoever was in charge didn’t think that anybody would show up or if they did then they wouldn’t walk out alive. After ensuring that nobody was around using their acute sense of hearing and smell, the two slowly edged inside. There was a lot of abandoned stuff littering around the open space so it proved to be effective in hiding. Thus, they used the empty drums and stuff lying around to hide them while carefully walking inside. The two werewolves kept inching towards the entrance that they hoped would be heavily guarded or at least tripped with wires. But to their surprise, again nothing obstructed their way. It was strange and both of them merely glanced at each other before walking
Running towards him, she turned him around and before he could react, she pulled him by the collar and placed her lips on his. Daniel had not expected her to have such a reaction and he was startled for a moment but soon he gave in to the feeling. He was afraid that she would shun him and was only around him for old time’s sake. The fact that she took the initiative to kiss him dispensed all the worries from his head. His arms went around her and he lifted him from the ground while kissing her back. Jenny smiled and a chuckle escaped her lips to feel him be so elated. His eyes were shining with joy and she could also see a tear or two though he was trying hard to not show it. “I love you” The words escaped his lips automatically and Jenny’s eyes mirrored his emotions. “I have always loved you, Danny,” Jenny replied and the two smiled again. “Now, put me down…” Daniel who was lost in the sensation of
As she kept thinking about this stuff, her feet automatically carried her to the headquarters. She walked inside the headquarters, climbed the stairs, and got to the upper floor where Daniel was sitting on the chair. He looked weak but not as exhausted as before. The guards stationed outside the room bowed their heads at her. “Has he eaten something?” One of the werewolves who were standing away from her bowed his head and answered, “Yes archon, we gave him food and he finished that reluctantly. In fact, he has been asking to meet you. But, we didn’t inform you because we thought it was too early.” She nodded her head in acknowledgment and went inside. Daniel was in a fresh set of clothes, probably Gerald had given her a new set. He even looked to have bathed and not as harrowed as the night before. Daniel had a notebook and a pen in front of him and appeared to be scribbling something. Seeing her enter the room, he got up from his seat and bo
The voice pained him and the icy tone with which she said that to him made him feel like he was punched in the gut. “Why are you doing this?” He asked in an anguished voice. She was still pinned to the bed and his hands were still holding hers. He tightened his hold on her and bent down again to say, “You don’t really mean that, you are saying that to get back at me.” Valencia kept looking at him with the same steady gaze, her eyes didn’t even falter for a second. She was proud of not giving away the roller coaster of emotions coursing through her. “If you think so…” Calhoun’s eyes grew darker and she hoped that he would get away from her the minute he realized that she wasn’t joking. However, he did just the opposite. Instead of getting away from her, he bent down and gave her the steamiest kiss ever. In one swift motion, he put his hands around her, pulled her in a tight embrace, and began eating her lips, devouring her
“Well let’s say fate decided to meddle with her life. She got separated from her parents and had to live on her own….but….she was a strong girl. As such, she decided to not let destiny decide the course of her life, thus she fought against all odds and became a queen from an orphan.” She gave a dry chuckle at that, “you make it look so effortless...” He responded, “I know it isn’t, but I didn’t want to go into the details of the pain and suffering of the girl, she has had her fill.” Valencia closed her eyes and replied, “Hmm…so, where is she now?” Calhoun looked at her face that was shining with innocence and pain. He wanted to kiss her so bad but didn’t want to take advantage of the situation. Thus, he answered, “She is ruling her kingdom all by herself.” “Oh, she doesn’t have a king?” “She could but she doesn’t need anyone I think.” “Well, everybody needs someone at one point or the other…” The words had tumbl
The word made her momentarily forget what she had been about to say. Nobody had called her queen before. Blinking her eyes she said while fumbling, “Yes…I am..” Though her heart had skipped a beat at that, she continued to look at him with defiance. Calhoun closed the distance between them and stood extremely close to her, their faces inches away from each other. “What wouldn’t have happened if I had stayed away?” He asked her again, slowly and steadily and she realized that he had understood that she had not implied the incident with the blue werewolf. A small part of her heart was amazed to see how he had clearly understood her but the other was still fluttering at the way he had called her queen. It felt oddly nice to hear him call her a queen. Scolding herself, she tried to get a grip on herself as even her wolf seemed to be confused now. Earlier, she had loved Dominic but now feeling what Valencia was feeling made her unsu
Dominic muttered and turned into his wolf. Valencia got up from the ground as the rogue motioned ahead and raised his hand to smack her again. But before he could do this, Dominic jumped on him, sinking his teeth into the werewolf’s arm. In normal circumstances, it would have sliced off the hand as an alpha’s bite was extremely powerful but no such thing happened now. The blue werewolf was more powerful than the alpha but it seemed to lose its mind from time to time. It was as if periodically it was being remote controlled by someone else and just moments of self control were granted to it before it was taken over by that other mysterious controller again. Dominic looked at his beta who got the message and quickly as his pack members to ensure that a stampede doesn’t occur and that everybody is taken to a safe place while they dealt with this rogue. Gerald and Patrick began guiding the frightened crowd, taking them away from the battle
“I kept telling myself that it will be okay, that I could always walk away and return the money if I didn’t like what was going on…” Daniel trailed off and his eyes automatically went to Jenny whose face was almost on the verge of crying. She couldn’t keep it together anymore. His face crumpled to see her like that and Dominic patted her head and pulled her in a hug to calm her down. Daniel felt relieved to see that neither of the alphas was hurting her even when they knew that she was their leverage against them. Gerald walked up to him and offered him a glass of water when the rogue moved his hands to his throat and touched the Adam’s apple. After emptying the water glass, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and continued, “I was taken in and asked to do some mandatory health check-ups that they assured me and the batch of people who had signed up with them…we were taken in a lab of sorts and asked to sleep on a table to take some scan…I do
