Third Person's POV:

Isabel wasn't prepared for Emma's sudden and curious question, leaving her utterly scared about whether Emma had overheard Mason's outburst. Accustomed to honesty with her family, she struggled to come up with an excuse.

"No, Emma... Not at all. We were just talking about something. I'm really sorry if it sounded like we were arguing," Mason interjected, standing beside Isabel. He had heard Emma's question and felt a surge of fear when Isabel didn't respond. To avoid any doubts about their relationship from her family, something he dreaded, he decided to clear the air. He knew that if Isabel's family suspected something, the news could eventually reach his mom.

"Oh, okay..." Emma sounded flustered by Mason's interruption. While she acted as if she believed Mason's explanation, there lingered a suspicion that she had indeed heard Mason's angry outburst. For the moment, she chose not to press the matter further, deciding to discuss it later with her sister, Isabel.

Third Person's POV: "Why have you been criticizing my parents from the beginning? They didn't invite you to stay, and neither did I," Isabel exclaimed, unable to contain her frustration. The disparaging remarks about her parents were more than she could bear. Her emotions surged, and tears welled up uncontrollably. "Oh, I see... So, I'm the one at fault for staying here. No, not me. My mom is the reason I'm here. Are you indirectly blaming her?" Mason retorted, leaving Isabel utterly speechless. "What are you even talking about?" Isabel asked, genuinely curious. "Don't play dumb. I'll discuss this with mom," Mason threatened. Before Isabel could respond, he snatched the towel from her and retreated into the bathroom. Isabel decided to wait outside until he was finished. As she stood there, she couldn't help but blame herself for the harsh insults her parents had endured. Despite knowing she wasn't at fault, she couldn't shake off the feeling. Isabel consoled herself by acknowle

  • The Ugly Bride   22. It's Your Life, Isabel

Third Person's POV: "What! No, mom... It was my decision to leave. Mason had nothing to do with it; in fact, he wanted to stay a few more days. Believe me," Isabel spoke firmly, her nerves betraying her understanding that convincing Nina wasn't going to be easy. Nina keenly observed Isabel's visible unease while uttering those words. Familiar with Mason's capabilities, she couldn't help but believe he was the driving force behind Isabel's abrupt departure. Isabel hoped Nina wouldn't probe further, realizing it would be challenging to concoct more lies. Despite Nina's lingering doubt, she chose to act as if she believed Isabel, avoiding making the situation more difficult for her daughter-in-law. Nina left Isabel to her own devices, and after her shower, Isabel joined everyone for lunch. Mason was conspicuously absent, as he typically didn't come home for lunch. Upon the first bites, Nina and John immediately noticed a distinct difference in the cooking style, not typical of Martha

  • The Ugly Bride   23. Mason Felt Slightly Bad

Third Person's POV:Mason couldn't contain his panic, shooting furious glares in Isabel's direction. She caught on quickly, understanding that Mason had no intention of dropping her off at college. "Mom, it's fine. I can go to college by myself. In fact, I'm used to going alone," Isabel insisted, hoping to alleviate the tension, but Nina instantly disagreed. "Of course not, Isabel. Forget what used to happen before. Now you're Mason's wife, and he has the responsibility to drop you there," Nina stated firmly, showing no inclination to change her mind. "Am I right, Mason?" Nina turned to her son for confirmation. Mason was internally cursing Isabel for this predicament. His mom's directive made him wish he could make Isabel disappear on the spot. The idea of going out publicly with Isabel embarrassed him, and the thought of introducing her as his wife was something he wanted to avoid at all costs. Despite his intense disinterest, Mason had no choice but to agree with his mom's word

Third Person's POV: Recalling her class schedule, Isabel emerged from the washroom and splashed water on her eyes to reduce the puffiness caused by crying. With a heavy heart, she made her way to the classroom, the harsh insults from Mason and Anna echoing in her mind. Upon entering the classroom, she received no reaction, as was customary. Ignored by her classmates, no one bothered to inquire about her recent absence. With a heavy sigh, Isabel headed straight to the back seat of the classroom, where she usually sat alone or occasionally with her one and only friend, Olivia. Unfortunately, Olivia had yet to arrive, and Isabel impatiently awaited her, missing her best friend dearly. The other students in the classroom paid no attention to Isabel, a situation that had become the norm for her. Since the beginning of college, making new friends or interacting with classmates had been impossible for Isabel. She understood that her imperfections led to mistreatment from her peers. Ini

"But you seemed nervous about my invitation. Do you think your husband won't accept it?" Olivia sounded sad, eliciting sympathy from Isabel. Isabel truly didn't want to decline the invitation, but she felt helpless. Mason would never agree to go anywhere with her. Moreover, she didn't want to bring Mason to Olivia's house, fearing that Olivia might sense something amiss in their relationship. "It's not like that. I think he would love to go for dinner, but I don't want to," Isabel stated, instantly disappointing Olivia. "What?" Olivia exclaimed, surprised by Isabel's rejection. "Please don't be sad. Actually, I don't want Mason to feel pressured. He has been giving me time since our wedding day, barely attending his office. I don't want to interrupt him in the company's work anymore," Isabel explained,

Third Person's POV: "Did I? Hmm, didn't notice. Does it look like I've been crying?" Isabel feigned surprise at Martha's question, though inwardly she knew her reddened eyes likely gave her away. "Oh... I'm sorry for prying. I just thought..." Martha's words trailed off as Isabel cut in. "Don't dwell on it, Martha. I'm perfectly alright," Isabel replied softly, fighting back the urge to let her emotions surface in front of Martha. Martha didn't press further, choosing instead to leave Isabel to her thoughts. At dinner, everyone gathered around the table except for Mason. Despite Isabel's lack of appetite, she forced herself to join, not wanting Nina to suspect anything was amiss. Nina noticed Mason's absence and Isabel's uncharacteristic silence, her concern growing. "Is everything alright, Isabel?" Nina asked, her mind jumping to the possibility of Mason causing trouble. "Yes, Mom..." Isabel replied, pasting on a fake smile. Unsatisfied with the response, Nina encouraged her
