“Poor child. What bad luck you had!” She said it seems like deep thought.

“I’m sorry to ask, but you see, I can do a lot of things. I am versatile. I learn easily and efficiently. I really work hard. If you know someone I can work with. Even as a maid, that is perfectly fine with me,” Maya said, desperation laced on her voice.

It had been a while when she last felt desperate. Years ago, it was so damn annoying for her to do it again.

There seems to be no way out of here, at least not anytime soon. Since she was already in the country, why not take advantage of it.

Probably a new start after she lost her job?

There was nothing wrong with trying again. Maya was desperate, and she was ready to try anything.

The old lady smiled but remained silent. Of course, because of Maya’s recent luck, she was already a ball of negativity.

So after a short while of waiting, Maya gave up on the idea that the older woman can help her.

Maya released a heavy sigh before she spoke with a forced smile, “You know, madam, don’t worry about it. I could-”

“I know a place you can work.” The older woman interrupted suddenly with a bright smile on her face.

Maya’s eyes bulged. “Really? Thank you so much!” Not knowing how to react, Maya hugged the older woman so tight.

The older woman laughed at her, but Maya did not care, as long her problem would be fixed, and she would not do anything illegal, everything is going to be fine.

“Hush, child. You are welcome.” She said while trying to escape from Maya’s tight embrace.

“Thank you so much! I swear you will not regret it. So who will I be working for?” Maja asked excitedly.

“Me.” The old lady pointed to herself proudly.

“Huh?” Maya asked in confusion.

The older woman snorted before unhappily spoke. “What? You don’t want to work for me?”

“Oh! It’s just that I did not expect it. Still, thank you so much!” Maja said assuring, as she smiled so coyly, trying to be cute, before asking, “Would you mind telling me what my job will be?”

The old woman waves her hand, “For starters, introductions. You can call me Mrs. Knight. Mrs. Sicilia Rose Knight.” She said proudly. Face up, nose pointing upwards.

‘What is wrong with her? Is she expecting something?’ Maya asked herself before she spoke with a smile, “Nice to meet you, Mrs. Knight. I am Maya Jacobs at your service.” She then stood up and made a respectful bow towards the other.

Mrs. Knight looked at Maya amusedly, “You seem not to know me?” She asked, surprised. The older woman seemed offended.

Maya looked at Mrs. Knight dumbfounded. She was from another country. How in the world would she know a woman?

Still, Maya hurriedly said, “I am really sorry, madam! I am not good with names. Are you a politician perhaps?” She asked curiously.

“No. But I’m famous just like any celebrity.” She said proudly.

With a bright smile on her face, Maya nodded as if she understood.

However, she had zero interest in who her boss, Mrs. Knight, as long as she has worked and got paid enough to return to her country.

Of course, provided that she won’t be sold in the process as well.

There should be no problem, right?

‘Maybe I should start praying a little more,’ she thought as she crossed her fingers. It seems her prayers were responded to.

Suddenly the older woman stood up. Maya looked at the older woman. Mrs. Knight was making a face, a sign of disapproval.

Maya looked at the place or person Mrs. Knight was looking at. She saw a man wearing a suit heading towards them.

The man seemed a little old, but not as old as Mrs. Knight, maybe forty-something.

“I’m sorry, Ma’am, I had to wait for the person in charge of the flight, and I called the young mister to see what’s he’s going to do,” he was panting.

‘Give the man some break,’ Maya thought.

“Well, that’s fine. I didn’t have such a bad time waiting for you anyway.” Mrs. Knight said as she gestured to Maya as if silently saying that she had a good time waiting because of her.

Then Mrs. Knight  asks the man, “Well, what did you find out?”

“The flight had been delayed due to a storm coming. There is no flight coming today or tomorrow. I spoke to the young mister, and he said he would be arranging to have a private flight if the weather allows it, instead.” Sebastien explained respectfully before his gaze shifted to Maya.

“Alright then, there is nothing else to do but go home,” Mrs. Knight started walking.

Then Mrs. Knight stopped and looked at Maya, then at her driver, “Oh silly me, Sebastien, this is Maya she is working for me starting from today.”

Mrs. Knight then turned towards Maya, “Dear, pack your things, and we are leaving this boring place ASAP.”

Without questioning anything, Maya did what the older woman asked her to. Sebastien helped her with her suitcase.

‘He seemed like a nice man,’ she thought.

On their way to the car, many questions she did not dare to ask. The most she wanted to ask was the salary amount. Well, she doesn’t want to demand much because she was only on a tourist Visa after all.

All three arrived at the parking lot. As they all headed to the car, Maya could not help but notice the luxury of the vehicle.

That woman was not lying. She definitely is a celebrity with a car like this one, Maya felt like destiny maybe smiling at her again like the time she got the job at that fantastic restaurant, but her moment of joy was short-lived.

The car started going. Maya recognized some streets, but some were strange to her. Minutes later, the car went to a quiet neighborhood.

A grand entrance revealed itself, and the car started slowing down. Maya was left speechless when she saw the luxurious mansion in front of her. She had never seen anything so significant before.

The car stopped, and the driver got out quickly to open the door for Mrs. Sicilia. Another man was waiting at the entrance of the house.

Maya got out of the car, and she stood for a minute, looking at the house. She never felt so low and so small in her life, her dream was to live in such a home, but with her current situation, that dream seems to take a lot of time.

Mrs. Sicilia handed her coat and bag to the man waiting for her at the entrance as Maya did the same. As for the driver, he was ordered to carry Maya’s belongings to her room.

The luxurious European architecture, the gold engravings on the walls, the large crystal chandelier hanging from the high ceiling illuminating the whole entrance left Maya in awe.

Maya followed the old lady to what seemed like a living room.

“Sit down, dear,” Mrs. Knight said.

In the United States...Maya was standing in the house that she thought she would not see again.Sicilia was at the door waiting for them to come. When she got out of the car, she immediately went to Sicilia, who embraced her in a long hug.“God, I thought I would never see you again. I was so devastated.”“I thought I would never see you either,” Maya responded after breaking the hug.“So he managed to convince you ?” Sicilia looked back at Alexander.“No, it wasn’t him, it was someone else,” if Pete didn’t come and say those words to Maya, she would still be determined to turn down Alexander, or she would’ve left already. It was all because of Pete, who reminded her to look for her happiness. She thought if she ever forgives Alexander, she would be less of a woman, but that wasn’t the case. She felt even stronger, having the power to reunite them or never be with him a

“I uh…” Thomas could not help but feel emotional, but then he snapped. He realized that Mrs. Simons intended to do this! Thomas, enraged, shouted as he threatened Mrs. Simons, “How dare you bring someone like her? She’s my daughter, and she died; you brought that girl here to rub it in my face? Is that it? Huh! You wench!”Mrs. Simons smirked, and just then, Maya stopped the old Duke’s hand mid-air and said, “Please, don’t hurt Mrs. Simons. She was just trying to help me.”Thomas found it odd. Everything about Maya reminded him of his dead daughter- from her eyes, smile, and her kindness. It was too much for the old Duke. Kate passed away young but had she grown up to reach that certain age, Thomas was sure she’d look like Maya. The old Duke left after seeing such resemblance, and that left Mrs. Simons, who was devilishly grinning as everything was going according to plan.Meanwhi

Upon arriving at France, Maya sighed heavily. She felt bad not having to say goodbye at everyone, but then again, she didn’t really think she could face any of them at the moment. The people Maya trusted the most ended up lying to her and manipulating her.But Maya was really bothered about what Alexander said about Mrs. Simons being her aunt. It was impossible, right? Maya knew almost for sure that it was impossible. Perhaps because of Mrs. Simons’s wealth and status, Maya never imagined herself to be anything related to her.Maya shook her head.“Are you okay?” Mrs. Simons asked, “How was the flight?”“Everything was super okay. I didn’t know airlines could fly at any time preferred without any prior notice on the schedule.”Mrs. Simons chuckled, “They didn’t. The plane we rode here is our family’s personal plane since the old Duke, and I love traveling.”“

She did not know what to say because the truth was it was her and Mrs. Simons who was manipulating Maya right now. Mrs. Simons’ plan was to break off the connections holding Maya back from leaving for France- and those were her friends and Alexander.Stephanie gulped hard, kept her composure, and said, “Just remember our agreement. You’ll cut off connections with Alexander. I’ll let what happened last night when you dance with him go and everything else if you just stay away from him as soon as you leave for France.”Maya scoffed, &ld

What are you planning?”“Since Pedro gathered them all up to delay Maya leaving for France, I’m just going to ‘undo’ what he did,” Mrs. Simon reasoned, “Once Maya knows about how Alexander, Oli, Sally- the people she trusted the most, are all trying to delay her form-finding her family, she would be so devastated a

Maya groaned as she thought to herself, this is not how I planned our meeting to happen. In fact, Maya never planned to cross paths with Alexander ever again. Maya awkwardly greeted, “Hello. I figured only one would have this bag in possession since it was discontinued, and there was only one of this manufactured because it was Kate’s work. Kate made it as a gift for her aunt, and that is none other than you, Mrs. Karin Simons.”Mrs. Simons scoffed, “I’ve always loved the bag but thinking that Kate made it was disgusting, but still, I had to keep up the act and wear that bag every day.”“This green bag is the only physical evidence that would bring you down.
