Ever wiped the tears that streamed down her cheeks after her father sent her back to her room.
His father’s words echoed in her head. “Get the fuck out of here!” He had huffed and puffed.
She had not expected to be scolded and dismissed so harshly, especially in front of Emma, who sat watching the scene unfold.
Emma did not even bother to hide her amusement. This twist of fate was too perfect for her to handle. After all the sessions, she had endured Ever’s condescending behavior.
Seeing her sister sent to her room in such a disgraceful way felt almost poetic. A chuckle escaped her lips, though she quickly composed herself when her father turned to face her.
“Emma,” her father began, his tone softened as he regarded her. “Would you like to stay the night? Your mother will be pleased to see you tomorrow.”
Emma hesitated for a second, glancing at Damien, who was sitting silently beside her. His expression was unreadable, but when their eyes met, Damien gave her a subtle nod of approval.
“Yes,” Emma nodded, a small smile gracing her lips. “I would like that,” she added.
Her father’s face lit up with genuine warmth. “Good, I’ll have the guest room prepared for your visitor. It is the least we can do for your friend,” he added with a broad smile.
Emma appreciated the gesture, though she could not help but notice the tension in her father’s voice. She nodded politely as her father called for the maid to handle the arrangement.
The warmth of the invitation felt surreal, almost foreign. She was not sure if she could trust this, or maybe this was just a prank. Thinking about her memories, this was far from the father she had known. But maybe the Moon Goddess was already helping her.
They returned to eating. The clicking of cutlery filled the room as they ate quietly.
Damien kept a watchful eye on Emma and her father, catching the fleeting glances she exchanged with him.
When the meal was over, Emma’s father excused himself, saying he had some work to attend to. Emma nodded, giving her father the grace to leave them alone.
“Your family seems so kind,” Damien acknowledged immediately after Emma’s father left them alone.
“That’s a good compliment,” Emma nodded, standing up. “I will show you to your room now if you don’t mind.”
She gestured toward a corner and motioned for him to follow her.
The house, though, felt so familiar, like a labyrinth of memories Emma had tried to bury. Every corner and every piece of furniture seemed to whisper echoes of her past. She led Damien to the guest room, opening the door for him.
“This is for you,” she said simply.
“Thank you,” Damien replied, stepping inside and placing his hand on the wall. His eyes lingered on Emma for a moment. His concern was evident. “Are you okay?” he asked.
Emma gave a faint smile. “I’m fine, just trying to adjust,” she answered.
Damien nodded. “I understand. No problem. But if you need anything, just let me know.”
Emma smiled at him. “Did you forget this is my house? I should be the one to tell you that, if you need anything, you should let me know, not the other way around,” she answered, and they both smiled.
With a final glance, Emma left him to settle in and made her way to her room.
It had been a decade since she had slept in this house, but her room was untouched, as though time had frozen in her absence.
She ran a finger over the desk that was set on the edge of her room. With a deep breath, she walked to her bed and fell on it, pulling the cover over herself. She tried to sleep, but sleep did not come easily. Her mind was a whirlwind of emotion, confusion, uneasiness, and a nagging feeling that something was not right. She could not believe that everything happening right now was happening.
**
It was close to midnight when Emma suddenly heard a faint knock on her door. Her eyes snapped open. The door to her room was inched open, and a familiar figure stepped inside. It was none other than… Ever.
“Ever,” Emma pronounced, surprised. Her voice was slow but steady as she sat up in bed. “What are you doing here?” she asked.
Ever’s face was tear-streaked. Her eyes were swollen from crying. She closed the door behind her and leaned against it. “What did you do to them?” Ever accused, her voice trembling with a mixture of anger and desperation. “How did you make them like you so much?”
Emma could not help but laugh out loud in a way that bubbled out of her. It was sharp and mocking, a sound that made Ever flinch in pain.
“Are you serious right now?” She asked, a tone dripping with disbelief. “You’re accusing me of turning our parents against you. You must be delusional.” She smiled.
Ever’s fist clenched at her side. “They have never treated you like this before. Never. Especially my father. It’s like you’ve done something to make him hate me. What did you do? Tell me. What did you say to them? What did you tell them?”
Emma shook her head, leaning back against the headboard with a smirk displaying on her lips. “Oh, Ever, you’re grasping at straws here. Did you forget all the things you put me through when I was living here? The humiliation, the torment, the way you treated me like I was less than nothing?”
Ever’s face twisted with guilt for a brief moment, but she quickly masked it with defiance. “That was the past. I was young and stupid. I didn’t know anything then, so you just have to let the past be the past and tell me what you did to our father.”
“Spare me the excuses, please,” Emma cut her off. Her voice was cold. “You’re only here because you’re scared. Scared that they will finally see you for who you are. You can’t stand the thought of not being their favorite anymore, can you?” she asked.
Eva’s voice cracked as she pleaded. “I’m sorry, okay? I’ll do anything to make it right. Just don’t ruin this for me. Let me take back my place. I’m not in the family anymore. I promise to be better.”
Emma narrowed her eyes in annoyance. “Take back your place? You think it’s that simple?” She leaned forward, her voice piercing. “You’re the one who destroyed your place in this family. Don’t you dare blame me for your mistakes, okay?” she analyzed her words.
“I’ll make it up to you. I’ll make them love you more than they love me. I promise.”
Emma’s voice was barely above a whisper as she pleaded. Emma laughed again, the sound devoid of any warmth. “Love me more than they love you. That’s rich. Do you think I care about their approval after everything I’ve been through?”
Eva hesitated, her desperation growing. “Please, Emma, I’ll do anything. Just don’t let them push me out. I’ll even be your slave.”
“Eva,” Emma interrupted before she could even complete her words. Her voice was ice-cold and commanding. Eva froze, staring at her sister in disbelief.
The corrections have been made, and the text now reads more smoothly. Let me know if you need anything else!
The next morning, the sun streamed through the window curtain, casting a warm glow over the room as Emma stretched lazily on her bed. She was startled out of her sleep by the sound of a knock on her door. Before she could answer, her mother stopped stepping. Her face was beaming with joy. “Emma, you are finally home!” Her mother exclaimed, rushing forward to wrap her hand in a warm hug. Emma sat up, smiling lightly as she returned the embrace. “It is good to see you too, mom. I missed you so much!” she exaggerated. Her mom pulled back slightly, her eyes scanning Emma’s face. “You look exhausted. Did you rest well?” she questioned.Emma nodded, forcing her tone to remain as casual as she could. “As well as I could,” she replied. Her mother seemed satisfied with the answer and began talking about how much she had missed having her around. Emma, feeling the weight of the previous day’s events, gave that response with hope for life, carefully not letting any bitterness seep through her
Inside her room, warm and golden under a worn-out chandelier, Emma sat with her friend, their quiet laughter defying the atmosphere.“I’m so excited for you, Emma,” Teena said suddenly, her cheeks flushing brighter.“Why?” Emma asked, surprised by the sudden declaration.Teena turned to her, face glowing with excitement. Clutching the hem of her silk gown, she waltzed around the room in an exaggerated circle. “You’re going to the ball!” she exclaimed. “There’ll be so many nobles there. Maybe you’ll even find your mate!” Grabbing Emma’s hands, she gasped in excitement. “This could be it!”Emma’s expression didn’t mirror her friend’s enthusiasm. Slowly, she pulled her hands away, the spark of excitement slowly leaving Teena’s eyes.“Emma?” Teena called with a soft and uncertain voice.“I don’t think I want to go,” Emma admitted, her voice sharp. “Look at me. I’m nowhere near attractive. No one even likes me, so what’s the point of it all?”“That’s not true! I like you,” Teena interrupte
The heavy doors groaned as they slowly creaked open, flooding the dark, oppressive room with a stream of light. Emma, crumpled against the cold stone wall, shielded her eyes from the sudden brightness. Her hands, bruised and trembling, rested limply on her lap. For hours, she had banged against the huge doors, the relentless effort peeling the skin from her palms. The bright light spilled over her face, revealing delicate features smeared with dust and streaked with tears. Her once-luminous hair clung dimly to her skin, yet even in her exhausted state, an undeniable beauty lingered in her fragile frame. As Emma’s blurred vision adjusted, a familiar silhouette stood in the doorway, and her heart sank. Ever.Clad in an ornate gown that gleamed in the light, mocking Emma’s despair, Ever smirked as she stepped inside. Her eyes sparkled with satisfaction.“Well, well,” Ever drawled, tilting her head in mock pity. “Look at you, Emma. Such a mess.”Emma, too weak to stand, clenched her fists
Inside her room, Emma paced like a caged animal, her heart pounding with fury. Today was the day of Ever’s mating ceremony with the Sutherland Alpha. She clenched her fists. Ever had won every other battle, but Emma wouldn’t let her win this one.The lock clicked sharply, and Emma realized she was trapped again. They had locked her in, just as they always did. For a moment, despair threatened to overwhelm her, but something deep within her stirred. Her wolf.A growl rumbled in her chest as a sudden pull of strength coursed through her veins. With a furious cry, she slammed her body against the door. And soon it came open, there was a storm and it greeted her like icy needles as she ran into the night, her feet pounding against the ground. Her breath came in sharp gasps, but she didn’t stop. She couldn’t.The forest was dark but she didn’t care. She continued to run toward the clearing where the ceremony was taking place. Different scents filled her nose but her focus was solely on th
Chapter 4Emma lay crumpled in the dirt, the cold ground pressing against her cheek. Everywhere was silent, only the sound of the bird and footsteps could be heard Her body trembled as sharp pain spread through her ribs where someone had kicked her. She blinked slowly, trying to open up her eyes completely but the view she met made her shut her eyes down almost immediately. “What do we do with her?” a rough voice said cutting through the silence of the environment. It came from one of the men standing over her, fear crept in and she wiggled praying inwardly for the ground to open up and swallow her.“We should finish her off. She’s already half-dead,” Another voice answered, lighter but no less cruel. Emma’s chest tightened. She wanted to speak, to plead, but her mouth felt dry, and every breath burned. She shifted slightly, and the pain shot through her like fire.“No,” a third voice cut in sharp and desperate. “Why waste her? We could… you know, have a little fun first,” he title
Emma opened her eyes with a start, feeling a sharp headache hitting her. Her eyes caught the environment she was in. Everything seemed blurred, but one thing didn’t fail her ears; the constant beeping of a machine. She tried to open her eyes fully, but they felt heavy. With a deep breath, she finally opened them. The white ceiling and the white walls were the first things that caught her sight. She breathed repeatedly, unable to comprehend what was happening or where she was.She tried to remember how she got there, but everything seemed blank. Whenever she tried to recall, everything seemed to collapse, and she suddenly felt a huge headache. She relaxed her body, closing her eyes in an attempt to calm herself. She could smell the scent of the room, it smelled of antiseptic.Confusion clouded her mind. How had she gotten here? She groaned softly, attempting to push herself upright, but the dull ache in her head made her falter. The door suddenly creaked open and a nurse walked inside,
The moment the man mentioned his name, Emma’s body shook. She didn’t know why a stranger would go out of their way to save her. She didn’t understand exactly why. The man looked genuinely helpful and genuinely happy for her.“Can you tell me the reason why you saved me, if I may ask?” she questioned, maintaining eye contact with the man.“Of course, I have no reason,” he replied. “I saw you stranded on the road, and that is why I decided to save you. I don’t have bad intentions toward you. You don’t have to stress yourself. All you have to do is keep your mind at peace. Recover quickly so we can leave the hospital. Or do you like staying at the hospital, sleeping like this?”The man asked, and Emma wiggled her head in response. Even though the man was a stranger, the way he communicated with her, the way he conversed with her, made her feel at ease. The doctor opened the door and stepped inside, his eyes smiling at Emma.“Are you two having a private conversation, or should I excuse m

I hope you recover quickly,” the man said.“Yes, I hope so,” she replied. The man led her to an empty room and told her to rest properly while he went to the kitchen to prepare food for her.Emma was shocked and asked, “Can you cook?”The man smiled. “I’m not going to brag. I’ll prepare the food, and you can judge for yourself if I can cook or not.”Emma smiled back and said, “Okay, no problem.”The man gestured toward the bed before stepping out and closing the door. Emma is set on the long journey back to her parent’s house and her pack. The weight of her decision was pressing on her chest. The thought of finally returning home brought a rush of emotion through her body, a conflict that she could not quite place. She had been away for so long, and her mind was a storm of uncertainty. Would they welcome her back, or would they see her as a stranger? A lot of thoughts were roaming around her mind, but she kept her shoulders high, determined to go home. Even though she had told Damien not to worry about following her, he insisted saying he had made a promise and he must fulfill it. She has no choice but to accept. As they approached the outskirts of Emma's former home, the familiar scent of the woods and the remnants of old memories clung to her. It was comforting, but something about it felt so different. As though she no longer truly belonged here, she took a steady breath, pushed the unease that lingered and continued to move forward.Immediat
Two nights later, Emily woke up with a start, sweat foaming out of her body. Her breath was Hitching as the remnant of the nightmare gripped her tightly. Her body trembled, her chest was heavy with the weight of fear. She wiped her damp forehead with shaky hands with a trembling voice, she tried to steady her racing heart, for the image replayed in her mind like a broken record. The dream had been unlike any other she would ever experience. She saw her former pack, the home she had once cherished, crumbling to the ground. The world’s majestic structure, the people’s echoes haunt her even now. Amidst the crowd, two wolves chased her relentlessly. Toward the end of the vision, she stood over the lifeless body of the pack-mates. Blood was staining her hands, and the faces she once cared for were frozen in pain and betrayal. She had done it herself, She killed them all.Her moist palm rubbed her hair as she screamed out loud, not even knowing what the sound echoed from her lips until sh
A grand bouquet has been arranged in the pack. In order to maintain and talk about the pack territory, they invite different alphas from nearby packs to discuss the critical issues going on. Particularly, the rising threat of outside impacts from crossing the alphas’ bother. They arrange the hall greatly, everywhere boozed with energy, as packs leaders dressed in their finest attire. They fill the long wooden table that was set across the room. Their conversation was obvious in the air. Their laughter evident in the eyes. Some conversations were friendly. They talked and joked about parties that they attended, while some were tense with teasing. At the top of the table, Jayden and Kale stood at the head of the room. Their presence was commanding, and it was impossible to ignore. Jayden leaned against the table. His sharp eyes were scanning the crowd as if looking for any signs of trouble. Kale was beside him. His arms were crossed on his chest. His eyes sat in a straight, focused
