Axel-

“Tell me!” I leaned in until I was but an inch from her face.

Misty flinched, but she didn’t open her mouth to speak. I was getting angrier by the second, and if she didn’t tell me soon, I couldn’t make any guarantees for her pathetic life. Every second I was wasting with her was another second that I could lose the woman I loved.

“How long do you think she can hold out?” Dominic asked.

“I give her another thirty seconds before her willpower is depleted.” Breck answered.

“Want to make a bet?” Dominic asked, obviously amused.

“Enough!” I yelled but kept my attention on Misty.

Breck had guessed correctly because thirty seconds later, Misty gasped, and her eyes clouded over. I didn’t know if it was because of her mark or what it was, but I had to admit I was slightly impressed with how long she held back. When her eyes locked with mine and she started speaking, it sounded as if she was a robot.

“Her name is Stormie. She is my twin sister. You were supposed to marry me, but I left,

Axel-Once the path was figured out, we rushed through the tunnel. It felt like we were getting lower in the Mine due to the downward slope. For a while, I wondered if I had been wrong and if we were going the wrong way.Ten minutes later, I saw a light in the distance and heard someone yelling. As we proceeded, the voice became louder until I could recognize it. It was my mother’s voice. She must have realized the main entrance had collapsed and found where the other exit was.A few yards from the wide exit, the ground began to shake again. Losing my balance, I stumbled but quickly caught myself against the wall, careful not to let Stormie get injured. Breck grabbed my shoulders and forced me to keep moving while helping me maneuver around the falling rocks. As we reached the exit, my mother grabbed us by our shirts, pulling us away. The tunnel completely collapsed just as we got out. We didn’t get out completely unscathed, as I was hit with a blast from behind and was thrown forward

Axel-Having not slept, I was already sitting up in bed, working on my laptop, when my parents returned. Breck and Dominic brought me some things from the house last night when I realized lying in bed wasn’t solving anything. I spent the night trying to find as much information as possible about Stormie, but everything was about Misty.“Good morning.” My mother greeted me as she brought over a container of food. “I thought you might be hungry.”“I am fine.” I accepted the container anyway, but set it aside for now.“You look like you haven’t slept.” My father’s tone was rigid, but when I looked at him, I could see the concern in his eyes.“I couldn’t. I decided to do a little investigation but couldn’t find anything about Stormie except for school records.”“I thought about it last night. I remembered Katrina and Corey had two daughters, but I didn’t know anything about the other daughter. Maybe I have seen Stormie, but I likely mistook her for Misty. I remember I asked about their ki

Misty-Waking with a splitting headache, I groaned as I rolled onto my side. What the hell happened last night? As I tried to recall what happened, my headache became worse. The last thing I remembered was returning home and preparing to take back my life. I found out my twin was pretending to be me while my parents waited for me to return.I hadn’t planned to return, but I realized that life as a rogue wasn’t something I envisioned for myself. I thought that the boy I met had been better than Axel, and he promised me the world. It didn’t take me long to figure out that I had simply been blinded by a teenage crush on a cute boy.He wasn’t as cute as Axel, but he offered me freedom. The one thing I had dreamed about was being free of my perfect sister. Well, technically, I was the perfect one. I had the looks, the friends, the clothes, and the boys, but my sister had something I didn’t. She was smart, and she was strong. When my parents told me my Mark was going to be yellow, I wanted

Stormie-I had to spend a full twenty-four hours at the hospital before they released me. I remembered what happened, at least to the point that I passed out. What I don’t remember is how I ended up with Axel again. The worst part was he called me Stormie.Since I woke up and he left, I haven’t seen him. I heard he returned after I went to sleep last night, but he was gone when I woke up. A guard was posted outside of my room, so I wondered if they were keeping an eye on me. No one has spoken to me besides the Doctor and Nurses. They didn’t say much except to tell me that I needed to stay in my room and that it was a miracle that I was alive and healed without much medical intervention. One Nurse had told me about Axel staying the night. Now that my identity wasn’t a secret, I figured Axel was simply keeping tabs on me but avoiding me.I tried not to say too much to anyone because I was scared of what was going to happen to me. I had deceived the Alpha family. It didn’t matter that I

Axel-“I don’t know where to start.” Stormie started picking at the corner of her thumbnail as she avoided my gaze and looked around the room.“You can start wherever you want, but if it helps, why don’t you start at the beginning?”She took a few deep breaths before looking me in the eye. “First, I suppose I should tell you that the mother I thought was my mother isn’t actually my mother. I only found out before coming here. I don’t know who my birth mother is, but I don’t know if I want to find out. I found out the reason Misty was always the favorite, which, in a way, makes me feel relieved.”“Why is that?”“Because it made it easier to cut ties with them. I no longer care that Misty and I are twins. I refuse to be nothing more than a spare part for her. I was ready and willing to die that night when they started beating me. The only reason I agreed to this setup about pretending to be Misty was because they promised they would send me away. All I ever wanted was to be free of them

Axel-Morning came too fast, so I slipped out of bed while she slept. I kept the noise down while I got ready for the day before going to the gym to conduct interviews. As applicants began to show up, I thought a lot of them had potential. They weren’t what I was looking for as Stormie’s personal guard. Since we also needed more warriors to guard the territory, I accepted more than half.A few I had to turn away completely. As the day dragged on, I didn’t think I was going to find anyone who was the right fit to protect Stormie. Breck was with me, helping me decide, but even he didn’t think any of them were good enough.“How many are left?” I asked after a man, I had to refuse altogether, left the gym.Breck looked at the sheet in front of him before answering. “One more. Maybe tomorrow we will have better luck with the next list of applicants.”“Maybe.” I sighed, but I wasn’t sure about it. “Send the last one in.”I thought about having another of my warriors do it, but I needed some

Axel-Not wanting to waste time, I entered the kitchen and quickly made a sandwich. The staff asked if I wanted to wait twenty minutes for the food to be done, but I declined. I left the kitchen after telling them to send a plate to my office later.I thought about what I told my father about asking his Beta to give me a hand. It wasn’t as if it was a bad idea, but I had only told him that to help him feel at ease. I had nothing against his Beta as far as his abilities, but he was Dominic’s father. When he heard I planned to name Breck and Dominic as my Beta, I didn’t like him on a personal level. Dominic might not show it, but I can tell he doesn’t get along with his father. I once overheard Dominic getting yelled at by his father for being useless and not being the only Beta.I wanted to set his father straight, but he told me to leave it alone. I chose both instead of just one because we worked well as a team. What Breck lacked, Dominic made up for, and vice versa. The three of us

Axel-After our meal, we decided to walk a few blocks to the cake shop Stormie wanted to go to. When we entered through the door, I paused when I saw Landon sitting at one of the tables, eating a cake. This couldn’t be a coincidence.Grabbing Stormie’s hand, I was about to ask her to go somewhere else, but she didn’t give me the chance. Her hand tightened around mine before pulling me toward the counter. My gaze kept shifting toward Landon. The theaters were one thing, but I didn’t believe in coincidences enough to think two encounters in one night were possible. Granted, it seemed he had been here for a while, but I couldn’t help but feel he was following us. Stormie began pulling on my hand to get my attention, so I focused on her and the lady behind the counter.“What would you like?” The cashier was all smiles as she glanced between me and Stormie.“I want to try that.” Stormie pointed to a slice of chocolate cake with coconut shavings on top.“And for you, Sir?” The cashier asked

Axel- Sitting at a table in a holding cell meant for visitations, Stormie and I waited for a guard to bring Landon in. Considering Landon had been involved in harming Stormie, I wasn’t about to let him near her without enforced supervision. After waiting for five minutes, the door to the cell opened, and Landon was guided inside with his wrists and ankles handcuffed. Once Landon was sat down and chained to the chair, I waited and watched to see what would happen. I didn’t have much to say to Landon, as I never planned to forgive him entirely. Until he could prove himself worthy, I would always regard him as a danger to Stormie. I was only here to give my mate the support she needed. I noticed that even as Landon sat across from Stormie, he avoided her gaze. Stormie, on the other hand, stared at Landon for a long time. Neither of them said anything, and I wondered if we would sit here silently for the entire hour. “I am sorry.” Landon mumbled forty-five minutes later. Stormie kept

Stormie-“Is it because I am the Alpha King?” He chuckled.Feeling a knot in my stomach, I tentatively nodded, my hand instinctively reaching up to rub the back of my neck. “A little.”“When I met your mother, she pretended to be human. When she was pregnant, she left me a note telling me that she was pregnant but had to return home. I tried to find her, but it was like she vanished off the earth and then reappeared with you and your sister. She vanished into thin air before I could ask her where she had been. I realized that nothing about her was simple. After I lost the two of you, I stopped searching for your mother and focused on finding you.”Feeling like this was a lot to take in all at once, I wanted to change the topic. “I am sure I will have more questions, but we can slowly get to know each other over time. Why don’t we head to the cemetery now?”Axel stood and helped me to my feet just as my father stood. Still a little nervous, I grabbed Axel’s hand as we headed toward the

Stormie-When I went to the living room after my shower, Axel was pacing the floor. Before letting him know I was done, I watched him for a few seconds. He kept mumbling something as he paced, but I couldn’t hear what he was saying. He kept rubbing his hands together, and his eyes were drawn to the ground.“Axel?” I approached him slowly. His movements stopped as his head snapped up. Like a deer caught in the headlights, he stared at me before rushing toward me. I couldn’t help but flinch when he suddenly grabbed me by the shoulders and steered me toward the couch. Forcing me to sit down, he resumed pacing.“What is wrong?” I asked, starting to feel anxious.Rapidly, he stopped pacing and sat beside me on the couch. His body was angled toward me, and I could see he was trying to process something. The longer it took him to speak, the more afraid I became.“While you were sleeping this past week, there is something I did that I didn’t report.” Axel said in a rush.“Whatever it is, you

Stormie-Moving from room to room, I was amazed at how spacious everything was. The apartment had a living room, office, kitchen, and dining room, all of which had an open concept. Aside from the bathroom connected to the primary bedroom, a smaller bathroom was next to the living room. There were also three bedrooms in total. One of the bedrooms had been converted into a nursery. The nursery hadn’t been fully set up, but it was filled with things for a baby.A box contained magazines and samples for decorating a nursery. I felt emotional as I sat on the floor and skimmed through one of the magazines. Inside, I found hundreds of notes in Axel’s handwriting. He noted the things he liked and put my name and a question mark on a few others. Many of the notes were about what to get depending on the gender of the baby. There were also notes about whether something would be safe for an infant.Tears filled my eyes as I flipped through a few more magazines. At the bottom of the box was a book

Stormie-When Landon released her, I rushed forward to get Misty away from him. In a split second, Landon turned Misty toward him and plunged the knife into her chest. My own chest exploded with pain as Landon pushed Misty away, and she fell to the ground.Placing my hands over my heart, I gasped for air. Falling to my knees, I was thankful when Axel caught me. My eyes focused on Misty as she lay on her back, with blood pouring out of her chest. Her eyes were staring blankly at the ceiling.I didn’t need to confirm that she was dead, as I could sense it. A dark cloud formed inside me, and I slowly succumbed to the darkness. Falling limp in Axel’s arms, everything around me disappeared. While I was asleep, I kept dreaming of the life I had, starting from an early age. Every good and bad moment replayed in my head. When I woke up, I abruptly sat up, gasping for air. My hands covered my chest as if I could relieve the pain in my heart.“You’re awake.” Axel moved onto the bed from a chair

Stormie-Something snapped inside of me at the last second. As if time slowed down, my face hardened as I glared at her. Feeling my strength return in a hot burst, I broke through the rope that tied me to the chair. My eyes burned with fury as I narrowed them on her. Seconds before Misty could shove the needle in me. I caught her wrist with my newly freed hand. Her eyes widened, and I could feel fear resonating from her. Keeping her wrist in my hand, I rose to her level. She took a staggering step back as he attention darted to my hand around her wrist. Misty attempted to twist her wrist as she tried pulling it away. Not willing to release her, I tightened my grip.“You have made me suffer, almost killed me, turned people against me, abused everyone around you, stolen from me, tried to take away the one person you will never be able to have, and so much more.” I edged forward, pushing her back at the same time. “Never again will I allow you to treat me like this. From this moment for

Stormie-“How can I trust you not to change your mind again?” Axel's jaw muscles tensed as he glared at Misty.“If you want to be technical, you were the one to break the rules.” Misty stepped away from me.“What rule did I break?”“I told you your body can’t touch the ground, but you did multiple times. The only reason I didn’t say anything was because I was enjoying the show.” Misty moved away from me, but she was out of my line of sight.Craning my neck, I looked over my shoulder to see what she was doing. I was nearly at full strength but still needed a little more time. When I saw her approaching the crate holding the wolfsbane, my eyes widened as I turned my head toward Axel. From what I could see, he was watching her every move. Turning my head again, I couldn’t see what Misty was doing, as her back obstructed my view. It wasn’t difficult to guess that she was preparing a syringe to inject me again. My gaze moved past her, where Landon was standing. His eyes were also focused o

Axel-Hearing a noise from behind me, I didn’t need to look behind me as I heard a whooshing sound, like a bat swinging through the air. Ducking my head, I grabbed the bat after it passed over my head. The rogue held tight. While he pulled on it, I reached behind me and grabbed the rogue's ankle. Another attack came as I pulled the rogue's leg out from under him. At the last second, I had full control over the bat. Using it as a shield, I blocked the next attack and then retaliated.Swinging the bat as hard as I could, I smashed it against the second rogue’s leg. When I heard the sound of a bone breaking, satisfaction swirled within me. A third rogue came at me with a whip in his hands.Unlike the others, he didn’t directly approach me. He stopped a reasonable distance away before swinging his arm out to throw the whip toward me. Using the bat, I held it out so the whip twisted around the bat. Grabbing the end of the whip with my hand, I pulled it toward me.The guy holding it wasn’t

Axel-“What do you want us to do?” Breck’s and Dominic’s voices overlapped as they spoke inside my head.“It is too risky to try anything right now. Until I can find an opening, I have no choice but to play by their rules.” I responded through the Pack link.I hated that Stormie was injured twice because of my failure to abide by Misty’s wishes. I could tell that Stormie was more upset about what I was being forced to do than the pain that had been inflicted upon her. Regardless of how much it hurt mine and my wolf’s pride, nothing was as crucial as Stormie’s life.“I have never asked you for anything, but I am begging you to please stop.” Tears streamed down Stormie’s face as she looked at Misty.“I am okay.” I gritted my teeth and smiled at Stormie, but she didn’t look in my direction.“I am just getting started.” Misty swatted Landon away from Stormie.Landon seemed reluctant at first but ended up backing away. Seeing that Landon was showing a little decency to Stormie, I might all
