Chapter 4 Mistaken Identity

Fannie held Jade's hand; her eyes sparkling. "Jade, let's go to the supermarket. We need some things and it's not easy to carry so much luggage. We didn't bring many things back with us."

"To the supermarket?" Jade glanced worriedly at the closed bedroom door. Patricia reminded her to keep an eye on Charles. If they left, what about Charles?

Sensing her concern, mischievous Fannie said, "Charles sleeps for a long time. By the time he wakes up, we'll already be back! Don't worry, nothing will go wrong."

After speaking, afraid that Jade would refuse, she started to act cute again. "Jade, let's go, okay? You said earlier you'd buy me some candy to eat."

Unable to resist her cuteness, Jade nodded in agreement, and the two left for the store.

Not long after the two left, the closed bedroom door suddenly opened. Charles peeped his head out, making sure they were gone before sneaking out. He put on his backpack, wore a baseball cap, and catch a taxi at the entrance of the community, heading towards Ivara City Hospital.

Ivara City Hospital, located in the heart of Ivara City, was a private hospital established by Martin for his son, Randy Langley. It had gathered the most authoritative cardiac experts and professors from all over the country.

During the years that Patricia had spent out of the country, she had devoted herself to studying cardiovascular surgery. In the hope that one day she could, personally, perform surgery on her son and enable him to live a normal life.

After four years of hard work, her efforts paid off. She finally became one of the world's top cardiovascular surgeons. A week ago, she received an invitation from Martin to come back and treat Randy.

Patricia had long heard about her esteemed position in the medical field, and the hospital's attitude towards her was very enthusiastic. "Professor Watson, it’s been a long-awaited anticipation, and we finally have you here.”

Patricia felt embarrassed and apologized, “I’m sorry, there were many things I needed to hand over and explain at my previous hospital, so I arrived later than anticipated."

The hospital director hurriedly said, "It's alright, it's alright, I understand! Let me take you to your workstation so you can familiarize yourself with it and introduce you to your colleagues."

Patricia nodded and followed the director as they first toured the outpatient department. She had brief introduction with the doctors in the outpatient department. Then they moved on to the inpatient department.

The hospital director joked, "Before you arrived, Professor. Brown was the youngest professor in our hospital.”

“I always thought it was not easy for someone of her age to become an associate professor. Little did I know, you're even more impressive, becoming a professor at an even younger age."

"Professor. Brown?"

They arrived at the door of a doctors' office. The hospital director pointed inside and said, "You'll see her right away."

Saying that, he led Patricia in and introduced everyone in the office one by one. After the introductions, he noticed that Professor. Brown wasn’t among those in the room. Without being able to hold herself back.

Patricia asked, "Where is Professor. Brown?"

A male doctor, with a receding hairline, pushed up his glasses on his nose and replied, "The Langley family's child has disappeared. Professor. Brown and Mr. Langley went to look for the child together."

The Langley family's child? Was he talking about Randy? Patricia's heart immediately jumped to her throat.

"Randy is missing? Where did he go? Could something have happened to him?"

The veins on the dean's temple bulged. "You don't have to worry. Randy is just throwing a tantrum. This happens every week, and he doesn't have anywhere else to go. He always sneaks back home."

"Every week?" Patricia's heart twisted with pain, and her mind began to wander. Randy mustn’t be coping with the limitations of his illness, perhaps this was why he so often runs away. Her heart ached at the thought of poor Randy.

The dean cautioned Patricia, "This hospital was established by Mr. Langley for Randy. Professor. Brown is Randy's aunt. Randy has a peculiar temper and isn't easy to deal with. You should be very careful in the future."

Patricia exclaimed in astonishment, "Professor. Brown is Debbie Brown?"

The dean nodded. "Yes, that’s correct. She is also renowned for her research in cardiovascular diseases, combining expertise with beauty."

A cold glimmer flashed in Patricia's eyes; she would be working with Debbie again. This was an interesting twist of fate, and it just so happened that she outranked her as well.

After familiarizing herself with the hospital and confirming her start date with the dean, Patricia prepared to go home. Just as she reached the parking lot, she spotted a familiar mischievous face peeking around.

Patricia walked over in annoyance and grabbed his ear. "You little rascal, didn't I tell you to stay at home and not wander around? Why did you follow me?"

Randy winced in pain; his cute face crumpled. "You dare to grab my ear? You must be tired of living!"

Patricia chuckled in exasperation. "Who gave you the audacity to talk to me like that?"

Randy struggled with all his might. Fearing she may actually hurt him, Patricia let go, allowing him to break free.

"You..." Randy raised his little head, about to get furious, but when he saw Patricia's appearance, he froze. Various emotions flickered in his eyes, ranging from anger to astonishment, and then to disbelief, leaving only a sense of grievance.

"Mommy."

Only the heavens knew how many times he had said this unfamiliar term, but no one had ever responded. Seeing everyone else with a mommy while he didn't, he felt so envious.

Looking at him in this state, Patricia couldn't bear to scold him anymore. She bent down, picked him up from the ground, and softly comforted him.

"I'm sorry, did mommy hurt you just now? I’m sorry baby, don't blame mommy."

Although it was their first meeting, Randy felt that her voice was familiar. It seemed like he had heard it countless times in his dreams.

"Are you really my mom?"

Patricia was speechless, "What? You don't even recognize your own mother?"

Upon hearing this, Randy couldn’t hold back the tears, that had been threatening to flow.  The dam finally burst, and the tears poured down his cheeks. He tightly hugged Patricia's neck and kept calling out repeatedly, "Mommy, mommy, mommy..."

As if he couldn't call out enough. It seemed like he wanted to shout out all the longing from these many years. Unable to bear it, Patricia's heart softened. The anger inside her completely extinguished.

She rubbed his back gently, saying, "Alright, I'm not angry anymore, stop crying, okay?"

Randy cried for a while before releasing Patricia. Suddenly, there was a grumbling sound coming from his stomach.

Patricia looked at his little belly in disbelief, "Are you hungry again? Didn't you just eat a lot?”

Randy's little face turned bright red. The feisty little lion suddenly became a gentle kitten, quietly snuggling in Patricia's arms, too shy to speak. Patricia shook her head helplessly.

"Let's go, let's go home. Mommy will cook something delicious for you." Randy obediently nodded.

Patricia stuffed him into the passenger seat and sat in the driver's seat herself. Randy couldn't believe this was real. He was afraid that he was dreaming, so he pinched his own cheek forcefully, and it immediately hurt, making him take a sharp breath.

"It's not a dream, it's real."

Patricia smiled wryly. "Silly boy, don't do such foolish things in front of others in the future! They'll laugh at you."

Randy tilted his head, unwilling to shift his gaze away from Patricia's face for even a moment.

Patricia let him look, thinking he was silly and at the same time adorable.

Back at the hospital, Martin sent people to search all the places Randy could possibly go, but still couldn't find him. His handsome face grew darker and darker, as if he wanted to kill someone. His subordinates were too scared to even breathe.

Debbie walked over and comforted, "Martin, Randy will be fine. He doesn't have any money, so he won't go far.Look around the hospital; he can’t have left the grounds.”

Although she said these words, deep down she cursed, hoping that Randy would die outside.

That way, when she married Martin, their child would be the rightful heir.

Just then, Alan hurriedly walked in. "Boss, we've retrieved all the surveillance footage around the hospital, and we finally found Randy's whereabouts!"

After saying that, he inserted a flash drive into the computer and opened the video. When Martin saw the content of the video, his handsome face was covered with a layer of icy coldness. It was Patricia after all.

"Martin, is that Patricia? Has Patricia come back? Did she take Randy away?"

Seeing Patricia, Debbie's eyes almost popped out. She never expected that Patricia, who had been missing for five years, would suddenly return.

Martin's cold eyes shone as he gave an, emotionless, order to Alan, "Call the police!"

Alan was stunned. "Do we really need to call the police?"

She was, after all, Randy's biological mother.

Martin raised an eyebrow coldly, "Didn't you hear me? Should I say it again?"

Alan immediately broke out in a cold sweat, took out his phone, and dialed the police station's number.

Debbie looked at Martin's grim face, intentionally provoking, "Martin, why did Patricia suddenly come back? Could it be that she wants to come back and take Randy from you?"

Martin stared at the computer screen with a sinister gaze and suddenly chuckled deep in his throat.

"Take Randy? She doesn’t deserve him." After saying that, he left with the car keys in hand.

Watching Martin leave, Debbie trembled with anger, clenching her fists. It had been five years.

Patricia actually came back. There was no way anyone could snatch her man.
