Five years later...
On the top floor of the Langley Group, the whole floor was covered in dark clouds, exuding a sense of low pressure.
Inside the conference room, it was crowded with programmers, each filled with the same heaviness. There was a computer in front of him, and Martin's fingers were flying over the keyboard.
Sitting in the main seat, Martin had deep features, his eyebrows knitted tightly, and his lips pressed together, exuding an aloofness that kept others at a distance.
"Still no trace?" His voice was cold, like a god who held the power of life and death.
Everyone was immediately frightened, sweating profusely. Suddenly, a young man wearing thick glasses exclaimed excitedly, "Mr. Langley, I found it, I found it..."
Martin immediately stood up and walked over to him. Several big words suddenly appeared on the computer screen. There were thick black letters scrolling across the screen.
I AM YOUR FATHER! HAHAHA’
An implacable murderous intent instantly appeared on Martin's face. Whoever this person was had such audacity. Not only had they breached the company's reputedly impenetrable security wall and leaked the most important internal files, but they also repeatedly played tricks on him.
And all the programmers in his company couldn't trace his whereabouts. Damn it. Once he captured him, he would strip the man's skin off. Just then, Alan, Martin's assistant, heard a 'beep-beep' sound from his computer. He stood up excitedly and said, "Sir, we've tracked him down. That person is currently at Ivara City International Airport."
Martin narrowed his dangerous eyes and immediately decided, "Go to the airport right away, closely monitor his movements, and report to me at any time."
Having said that, he drove to the airport with Alan and several bodyguards. Today, he was going to catch him with his own hands.
Meanwhile, in the VIP lounge of Ivara City International Airport. Two beautiful children, like models from a magazine, sat side by side in chairs. They were twins, named Charles and Fannie.
Charles had a small notebook computer on his thigh, a wicked smile on his lips. He lightly pressed the Enter key and sent, yet another, virus to their dear father. Fannie, feeling a little guilty, watched as the virus was sent successfully.
"Charles, do you think it's right, for us to invade our dad's company, just to make money?"
Charles scrunched up his pretty little face. "He's not our dad, he's some bastard who abandoned his wife and child."
"But..." Fannie still had some concerns. She had heard that their dad was very powerful, and she was afraid of being caught by him.
Charles angrily said, "But what? All his money is going to his mistress's child, it has nothing to do with us. I won't feel sorry for him. Don't you forget how he treated mommy? I'm just getting back what she deserves!"
After hearing his words, all of Fannie's concerns disappeared in an instant. "You're right, this is the punishment he deserves!"
After successfully sending the virus, Charles packed up his computer and put it in his backpack.
Their mommy, Patricia, came out of the restroom, saying, "Jade has arrived, let's go quickly!"
"Got it!"
"Okay!"
The two little ones spoke in unison and quickly jumped off the chairs. Patricia reached down, picking up Fannie, and placed her on top of the luggage trolley. With her left hand pushing the trolley, and her right hand holding onto Charles, they walked out of the lounge.
Just as they reached the door, there was a commotion just outside. It was Martin, who happened to be surrounded by a group of admirers. His good looks, and his attire of a formal black suit gave off the air of mystery, drawing everyone’s attention and admiration.
Patricia hadn’t expected to encounter Martin, so soon, right after getting off the plane. Her breath caught in her chest causing her to momentarily pause. As she stood there all the past grievances, flashed through her mind like movie scenes.
Even though it had been five years, whenever she thought of his cruelty and heartlessness, she gritted her teeth as the feelings of hatred towards him surfaced.
Fannie saw Martin and nervously covered her mouth. "Charles, uh-oh, the jerk found us. Have we been exposed?"
Charles smirked. "No wonder it's the Langley Group. They have truly gathered the most elite experts. I've only been online for a while, and he managed to track me down."
Fannie's heart thumped with fear. "What should we do? Will we get caught?"
Charles looked up at his mother, who was still fixated on Martin. He calmly took out three baseball caps and scarfs from the suitcase, and gently tugged at Patricia's clothes.
"Mommy, mommy, quickly put on the caps and scarves. Be careful not to be discovered by that jerk."
Patricia suddenly snapped back to reality, at Charles’ words. She quickly took the cap and scarf, from Charles, put them on, lowered her head, and forced herself to stay calm as she walked past Martin.
Just as she passed by, Martin subconsciously looked at her. When he saw the familiar figure, his throat tightened, making him want to chase after her immediately. He was stopped by Alan.
"Boss, the signal disappeared."
He abruptly came to a halt. Dangerously narrowing his eyes.
"The signal disappeared again?"
Alan's face turned red, and he shamefully looked down. "Just two minutes ago, we were able to track his whereabouts, but now we can't find him."
A cold air surrounded Martin's handsome face. "Are you able to find out where he was last seen?"
Alan kept his head even lower. "The person is very cautious, so we can't find out for now."
A fiery flame burned in Martin's eyes, like an enraged lion. He scanned the surroundings with his sharp gaze and noticed almost everyone had a cellphone and a laptop. Knowing, the surveillance wouldn't yield any results.
Feeling the anger from his boss, Alan wished he could disappear on the spot, but he had no choice, as he continued reporting with a stiff face.
"Just twenty minutes ago, our company's system was hacked again, causing us a loss of nearly 200 million dollars."
As soon as he finished speaking, a deathly silence hung in the air. No one dared to breathe. The sound of a phone ringing broke the silence. It was Alan's phone ring, thinking it was another crisis at the company, he hurriedly answered. But his face immediately turned pale after hearing the content of the call.
"Boss, the nurse just called. They said Randy is missing from the hospital."
Martin swore to himself. If something was to happen to Randy, they're all done for.
A bone-chilling coldness surged from the depths of Martin's eyes."A bunch of useless people who can't even watch a child. Send someone to find them."
"Yes Boss!" Alan, received the order, and hurriedly left with the bodyguards.
Before leaving, Martin took a look in the direction Patricia had left, as he stood deep in thought. Why did that figure just now resemble Patricia so much? Could it really be her who has returned?
Ha! There was no way it could be her, she abandoned her critically ill son and disappeared without a trace five years ago, and now she has the audacity to come back?
After searching around, Patricia finally found her best friend, Jade Williams, in the parking lot.Jade excitedly hugged Patricia and jumped up and down."My Professor. Watson, you finally decided to come back! I've been waiting for you for a whole year. I missed you so much."Looking at her best friend, Patricia couldn't help but tear up."I missed you too, I missed you so much it drove me crazy."If it weren't for Jade, she wouldn't have survived. Five years ago, Martin disregarded the fact that she was pregnant and tied her to the operating table. She had thought the baby wouldn't survive. But unexpectedly, the child, was strong and miraculously survived. When it was time to give birth, she had a difficult experience and gave birth to triplets. Charles and Randy were her sons, and Fannie was her daughter. Randy, sadly, hads evere congenital heart disease. He needed so much care, expensive care. Patricia was penniless and had no way to pay the required hospital bills. Putting Ra
Fannie held Jade's hand; her eyes sparkling. "Jade, let's go to the supermarket. We need some things and it's not easy to carry so much luggage. We didn't bring many things back with us.""To the supermarket?" Jade glanced worriedly at the closed bedroom door. Patricia reminded her to keep an eye on Charles. If they left, what about Charles?Sensing her concern, mischievous Fannie said, "Charles sleeps for a long time. By the time he wakes up, we'll already be back! Don't worry, nothing will go wrong."After speaking, afraid that Jade would refuse, she started to act cute again. "Jade, let's go, okay? You said earlier you'd buy me some candy to eat."Unable to resist her cuteness, Jade nodded in agreement, and the two left for the store. Not long after the two left, the closed bedroom door suddenly opened. Charles peeped his head out, making sure they were gone before sneaking out. He put on his backpack, wore a baseball cap, and catch a taxi at the entrance of the community, heading
Patricia didn't bring Randy home but went to the supermarket first to buy groceries. As she walked out of the store with a bag full of shopping, she was approached by a group of police officers, and the contents of the bag spilled all over the ground."Ma'am, you are now implicated in a kidnapping case. Please come with us."Patricia was dumbfounded. "Who did I kidnap?""The little boy beside you."Patricia chuckled angrily, "Officer, this is my son. Why would I kidnap my own son?"The police didn't listen, stubbornly dragging Patricia into the police car."Mommy!" Randy wanted to chase after them but was held back by the police."Randy, your father will be here soon. Behave and don't make him angry anymore."Randy stopped struggling. He knew very well that when daddy spoke, no one dared to disobey. If he wanted to save mommy, he had to get daddy's permission. A short while after the police car left, a luxurious Rolls-Royce stopped in front of Randy. It was his father. Martin got out
Patricia woke up early and started making breakfast. Charles and Fannie brushed their teeth, washed their faces, changed their clothes, and went to the bathroom in an orderly manner. After breakfast, Patricia took them to the kindergarten across the street from the community. Jade had completed the transfer procedures for the two little ones a week ago, so Patricia only needed to drop them off at the entrance of the kindergarten and personally hand them over to the teacher. Before leaving, Patricia worriedly reminded Charles, "You better behave, don't run around everywhere, take good care of Fannie. If the teacher tells me that you've been bullying classmates or skipping school, I won't be lenient with you."Charles let out a small sigh. "Why do I still have to go to kindergarten with them? Being with them is an insult to my intelligence." "Say that again?" Patricia glared at him fiercely, her gaze full of warning. Charles immediately shut up, smiled sweetly at her. "Dear mother,
In stark contrast to his reaction, Randy's irritable eyes lit up when he saw Patricia. He jumped off the bed and ran towards Patricia. He wasn't wearing shoes, and Patricia was afraid of his feet getting cut by the broken glass on the floor, so she immediately ran over and lifted him up. "Be careful, remember to wear shoes next time." Just moments ago, Randy was angry like an enraged beast, but now he was as gentle as a kitten, nodding his little head vigorously. "I'll remember, I'll definitely wear shoes next time." Patricia affectionately rubbed his head and held him in her arms for the first time, now that she knew he was her own son. There was a sour and bittersweet feeling in her heart, accompanied by a sense of contentment and fulfillment. Martin, on the other hand, watched as his son who had just been angry with him a second ago now obeyed Patricia. He felt jealous. "What are you doing here?"Faced with his question, Patricia calmly placed Randy back on the bed and extende
Martin held Randy in his arms, still unable to react, when Debbie rushed over and pushed Patricia away."What right do you have to question him? Randy ended up like this because of you! Yes, you guessed it right. He does have bipolar disorder, and his condition is becoming increasingly uncontrollable. Now that you know, are you satisfied?"Her words made Patricia's head spin. She only knew that Randy had heart disease, but never expected that at such a young age, he would also have a mental illness. How could this be?"Why didn't you mention it in his medical records?"Martin gently placed Randy on the bed, covered him with a blanket, and looked at her expressionlessly, "There are many things not recorded in the medical records. Do you want me to tell you one by one?"Patricia's heart skipped a beat. "What else is there?"A hint of ridicule flashed in Martin's eyes, "He also has asthma. Two years ago, he secretly ran away from home with his pocket money and a small backpack, wanting t
Randy's tantrums were causing a big disturbance, giving both the patients and doctors headaches. Patricia was a short distance away from the ward, but she could hear Randy's shouts clearly. “Get out, all of you! I want to find my mommy! You're all liars, you're all bad people, I don't want to see any of you!"Martin had been trying to calm him down for a while and was on the verge of exhaustion. He growled lowly, "Go and get Patricia."Alan received the order and as soon as he walked out of the ward, he saw Patricia rushing towards him. He breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Madam, please come and see. Randy is making a fuss, insisting on seeing you."Patricia didn't pay attention to his address, she quickened her pace and rushed into the ward.It was in complete chaos, the newly inserted IV had been pulled out, blood was flowing out, and the floor and bed were a mess. The medicine that had been painstakingly brought, by Patricia, was spilled all over the floor. When Randy saw her,
Someone gave her a thumbs up, admiration on their face. "Professor. Watson, you really have a way with things."A child as difficult as Randy was now taken care of. They could only say these words silently to themselves, not daring to say them out loud.Patricia caressed his head, with a face filled with affection. "He's so well-behaved and obedient, quite likable, isn't he?"The atmosphere immediately froze. Everyone's expressions remained fixed, as only Professor. Watson said that he was well-behaved and obedient. Those words didn’t match with Randy at all, did they? He was a complete little devil.Seeing that no one was speaking, Patricia approached her desk, had Randy sit obediently on her lap, and began prescribing medication on the computer. Randy sat quietly; his eyes curiously fixated on the computer screen.Suddenly, a pair of hands blocked his line of sight, followed by Patricia's gentle voice by his ear. "Children shouldn't stare at computer screens; it's not good for their
Martin, lost in thought and gazing into the distance, didn't see Charlotte deliberately fall to the ground when her relatives reached out to her."Ah..."Her cry successfully snapped Martin back to reality. He immediately bent down to help her up. "Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?"Charlotte, tears welling up in her eyes, replied pitifully, "My wrist hurts so much, I think I've fallen on it again! I hope it's not dislocated?"Martin noticed the bandage on her wrist had come undone. The packet of medicine inside was nearly falling out. Anger started to well up inside him; this time, he was thoroughly enraged."Alan, take all of them to the police station, contact the lawyer, charge them with slander, intentional harm, extortion... I want them in jail."Feeling his boss's rage, Alan immediately carried out the order."Why are you suing us? We're the ones who have been wronged.""Just because you're wealthy doesn't put you above the law. Let me tell you, we won't back down without pr
Hunter looked at her with tenderness, patiently waiting for her to finish speaking.Seeing his gentle expression, Patricia found it difficult to voice the words at the tip of her tongue. Nervously she reached for the lemon water on the table and took a gulp. She drank too hastily, and the sourness made her teeth quiver, causing her face to scrunch up.Hunter was amused by her adorable expression and considerately poured a little packet of sugar into her lemon water."I remember you used to hate sour tastes! What changed? Are you not afraid anymore? Going straight for it?" he asked with a smile. With her cheeks flushed with embarrassment and faced with his caring gesture, found her words of refusal even harder to pronounce.Hunter stirred the water in her cup with a straw for a while, making sure the sugar dissolved, then handed it back to her: "Here, try now. It shouldn't be sour anymore."Patricia nodded and took a sip through the straw. The taste was a bittersweet delight.Although
Only when the phone’s ringtone broke the silence, the deadlock was finally broken.Martin glanced at the caller ID with a gloomy expression, sighed, turned the phone upside down on his thigh in resignation. He turned to Patricia, unbuckled his seatbelt, and moved closer, taking hold of her shoulders. With a serious and helpless look on his face, he said, "Patricia, I'm sorry, I admit I was too overbearing just now. But I'm being overprotective because I care about you so much, and I don't want to see you getting too close with Hunter."Care? It was the first time Patricia had heard this word from him.The anger in her chest dissipated almost instantly, and her tone softened unconsciously. "Hunter and I grew up together. When Debbie and her daughter bullied me, he was the one who protected and encouraged me time after time. He is very important to me. If a condition for remarrying you is to cut ties with him, then I can give you the answer now."Even without her saying it, Martin gues
Martin didn't give her a chance to escape, questioning every word, "So, is what Hunter said true? Are you really going to get engaged and marry him?"Patricia felt that the matters between her and Hunter couldn't be explained in just a few words, and moreover, everything was premature without having cleared things up with Hunter first.Seeing her still not responding, Martin grew impatient and urged, "Answer my question."Patricia pulled her hand back and said indifferently, "I won't marry him."That was her only answer. The rest, she wasn't ready to share with Martin yet. This answer caused a surge of joy in Martin's heart, his previously tense facial features gradually softened as he smiled like a child, unable to hide his delight."I knew you wouldn't like him." He said.Patricia rolled her eyes at him, "Now take me back to the restaurant."The smile on Martin's face vanished in an instant, and he refused without hesitation, "No, I won’t..."Before he could finish, his cell phone r
Upon hearing his question, Patricia burst into laughter, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "So what if it is? What difference does it make if it isn't?"She did not deny it.Martin took her non-denial as an admission, and his handsome face darkened like the bottom of a pot, his eyes filled with brooding shadows."I don't agree.""Haha..." Patricia laughed even harder, her snort of derision loud and unmasked. "And might I ask, who are you to me? By what right do you interfere? What does it matter to you whom I'm with? At best, you're nothing more than my ex-husband. Remember, ex-hus-band."She enunciated the words “ex-husband” deliberately, making sure he grasped their significance.Martin's normally composed brows furrowed, wrapping him in an aura of cold sternness. He was clearly displeased with these words. Then silence hung in the air, heavy and enigmatic. He spoke with grave seriousness, "Let's remarry!"As he spoke, a chilly wind blew past them, its whistling sound drowning out Mar
Hunter expected Martin to back down and leave in a sorry state. However, to his surprise, Martin’s expression was filled with pain as he stared at their clasped hands for a moment and then strode over to them.Confusion filled Patricia as she instinctively turned her head and locked eyes with Martin, whose gaze burned with fierce anger. Her mind felt like it was exploding as if something detonated."How did you get here?" Patricia asked, barely able to form the words. No sooner had the words left her lips than Martin had reached out, forcibly separating Patricia and Hunter's clasped hands. In Patricia's stunned state, he grabbed her wrist and started to pull her away."Martin, what are you doing?" Patricia's heart began to flutter with slight panic.Martin's face had been a ghastly sight just now, as if he was on the verge of a killing spree. She had no clue where his rage was coming from.Hunter quickly stood up and seized Patricia's other wrist, forcing Martin to stop. Martin turned
The doctor conducted a thorough examination of Charlotte. Her wrist wasn't fractured but had suffered from a dislocation and soft tissue damage."Mr. Langley, please hold her tightly. I'm about to reset the bones in her wrist, which may cause some discomfort. Keep her steady, and do not let her move.""Bone reset!" Just hearing it, Charlotte's eyes widened with fear, and her body trembled. Despite this, she bravely closed her eyes, extended her hand, and prepared herself for the pain. "Go ahead! I'm not afraid of the pain!"The doctor looked surprised and said, "It's going to be very painful. Are you sure you're not afraid?"His words instantly drained the color from her face, but she vigorously nodded, clenching her teeth, and refusing to voice her fear."I'm not afraid! Back when I was boarding at school, someone pushed me down the stairs, and I broke my leg but didn’t cry. I can handle this pain!" she explained."You were pushed down the stairs?" Martin's discerning eyes narrowed,
Patricia's heart skipped a beat. She knew she had been framed, again. And this woman's tactics were identical to Debbie's.Not only did she remind her of Debbie, but her methods and cunning were also the same. Indeed, Martin's taste had never changed. He always liked these hypocritical, nauseating women who could put on an act.The incident had happened too quickly; the onlookers only saw a scuffle but hadn't truly seen who had started it. They only saw someone fall and another with a hand outstretched as if pushing, so they naturally assumed Patricia was the aggressor."Professor Watson, what happened? Why did you push her?" one on looker asked."Yes, Professor Watson, is there some conflict between you two? If so, have a proper conversation about it. Getting physical in public won't do your reputation any favors." Another said."Yes! Professor Watson, perhaps you and her should talk in your office? It's not convenient in this corridor."After the incident with Debbie, everyone's vie
Martin had thought he would be calm when he saw Patricia again, as if nothing had ever happened. But in this moment, with Patricia standing right in front of him, his heart raced with intense emotions that he had suppressed for so long. It was in that moment that he realized the depth of his love for her, far greater than he had ever imagined. He couldn't bear to see her with Hunter, nor could he draw a clear line between them. "You..."Martin's lips parted as he tried to speak to her, to bridge the distance between them.Unfortunately, Patricia had made up her mind to keep her distance, and with her head bowed, she took a step back, yielding the path ahead.Martin clenched his fists tightly, struggling to contain the anger and turmoil within him. Unaware of the tension between Martin and Patricia, Charlotte flashed a sweet smile at Martin and said, “Martin, let’s go! I can’t wait to see Randy!”Patricia smirked derisively, her lips curling up."Well, isn’t that affectionate?"Marti
