Cela woke up effortlessly despite having very few hours of sleep. They say old habits die hard but it's a good thing that the early morning sky is worth waking up to. It's a treat.
"Good morning, Ms. Cela," Hyun excitedly greeted her on the phone while looking at himself in the mirror. He hates that he fell asleep without putting his facial mask on. "I'm sorry, I only saw your message this morning," he explained."Good morning, Hyun," Cela greeted him too. "I'm the one who should be ashamed for bugging you after I told you yesterday that you should ignore work related matters during this break." "It's okay, Ms. Cela. By the way, the team went clubbing last night and we had so much fun. You should join us next time," Hyun said."That's good to hear. You deserve to have fun. You should have told me about it early on so I could contribute," Cela said."I'll take note of that for next time. By the way, what is it about?" Hyun asked."Oh, actually I have a favor to ask from you," she said."What is it? Is it something related to the third book?" he asked excitedly."What's with the third book? Did Ivy go through about it already even without me?" she asked."Oh no, Ms. Cela. It's not like that. However, she told us to be ready for anything that you might need that is connected to the preparation of the third book," Hyun explained."I'm telling you, there's no third book yet," Cela said firmly. "I haven't agreed to write another one. I'm still exhausted from the last one. And why do you sound so excited about it? Weren't you the one who strongly swore that he would go on a long break without interruption once the second book was out?" she asked."Well, the truth is Ms. Ivy already converted to cash our supposed vacation," Hyun said shyly. He knows it won't sit well with her.Cela is speechless. She couldn't believe Ivy would go as far as monetizing the vacation of the employees for the sake of another book that she believes will be best for the company."Ms. Cela, are you still there?" Hyun asked to check."Yeah, I'm still here. I was just amazed by what I heard from you," Cela answered."May I know what is the favor that you want to ask from me," he asked to change the topic."Actually, I need your help in finding a person," Cela started.Hyun got curious instantly. "Is someone missing, Ms. Cela? Maybe we should involve the authorities," he asked."Oh no, don't be silly. No one is missing. I just want to reach out to someone I knew from way back," she replied."You mean to reconnect with that person?" he clarified."More likely," she said. "I'll send you the name and other possible names he might be using on social media. I tried last night but couldn't find a match and I am not really into social media so I definitely need your expertise," she explained.Hyun understood the instruction. "I'll let you know right away once I find even a close match. By the way, can I ask my friends to help me out too or is it confidential?" he asked."Oh no, it's not confidential. It would be great if you could get help from others. Appreciate it, Hyun" she said before hanging up.Cela takes a moment to look at the beautiful sky outside her window. It is so calming in her eyes and it seems to promise her that nothing will ever go wrong today. And for some reason, it brings back some good memories.
"Did you really design your team's uniform?" Cela asked Nate. She tried to keep it casual with him by limiting the topics of their conversation to things and activities around them.Nate took his portfolio from his bag and proudly showed to her all his designs."Wow! These are amazing. You sketched all these?" she asked.Nate smiled."You're so talented. You play basketball, you design, and you are a scholar on top of everything. You are sure to have a great future ahead of you. It's guaranteed," Cela said sincerely."My future is nothing compared to yours. You are sure to have a greater life ahead," Nate said."What do you want to do after high school? What course are you going to take up in college?" Cela asked."Well, I really want to study graphics designs but Mrs. Serrano, you mom, wants me to study architecture," Nate shared."Really, Does she have to choose that for you too? What will happen if you don't?" she asked."She will continue my scholarship up to college only if I take up architecture," Nate said.Cela felt bad for him. Her mother's controlling nature knows no borders. She wanted to console him but she noticed that some students were looking at them."Are you okay?" Nate asked."Yeah, I am. Sorry, something just came across my mind," Cela said."Are you always like that?" Nate asked."What do you mean? Cela asked."Pardon my asking but I noticed that you're always thinking of something," Nate clarified.Cela didn't know how to react upon knowing that there's someone who actually notices what she's doing."You are right. My mind always wanders. I have a thing for writing and sometimes scenarios play in my head naturally," she explained."That's amazing! Where are these stories? Will I be able to read anything that you wrote?" Nate asked.Cela was flattered. Her sweet smile came out naturally. "Believe it or not, I haven't written anything yet. It's all here," she said while pointing to her head."Oh, you have to put that in writing. Don't let it stay there. You have to share it," he said.
The phone rings bringing her back to the present. It's her brother."Hi. I'm sorry I forgot to reply last night. I got home safe and sound," Cela said."I'm relieved to hear that," Rolan said. "Can we visit you this week? I heard from Nanny Rita that you are finally on a break."Cela thought for a moment. "Sure but not this week. I need to do a lot of arranging and organizing here first before I can welcome any visitors," she said."We're not visitors. We don't mind if it has clutters. Actually, Nanny Rita would love to help. Can she come over to help you?" he asked."I prefer to do everything by myself here in my own place and enjoy it alone for now," she said firmly.Rolan understands that her sister wants to enjoy her new found life and privacy."Alright. Let us know when we can come to visit. We'll have a nice housewarming. Nanny Rita and I are both happy for you," he said"Thank you. I'll cook for you next time," she said.
"I'll look forward to that, sis," he said.
The clock shows 12nn. Time does fly and she feels unproductive because she hasn't done anything yet. However, she can't help but love the break from all the deadlines and wishes it stays this way for a longer period.Hyun calls in the middle of the afternoon. Cela can't explain the feeling while thinking what he will tell her."Ms. Cela!" Hyun seems excited. "We found him!"There's a moment of silence that brings a lot of thoughts. She can't believe Nate is already found. The possibility of reuniting with him is inevitable."Ms. Cela? Are you still there?" Hyun asked.
"Yes, yes, I'm still here," Cela answered. She's excited and it is clear in her voice. "How did you find him?" she asked."I told you I would ask some of my friends to help out and one of them found him," Hyun replied."But..but how? That's fast. That's amazing!" she said in a mix of nervous and happy voice.Hyun sent a screenshot of the profile picture of a graphics shop's social media account. It only shows an artwork and a little caption that says, "honored to have this design from the master @etanromero"."Do you think that's him?" he asked.
The artwork looks familiar and the backward spelling of Nate's name to "etan" now makes sense why she could not find him through different searches she did the night before."It's definitely him," she said.
"Well, I'm so happy my friend found him for you," he said
"Well, tell you friend that he or she is brilliant for thinking of a way to search for his name. Please thank your friend for me. Let's arrange lunch with him or her soon," Cela said."It's nothing, Ms. Cela. We are all happy to help…" Hyun said but suddenly realized that he had to be careful with his words. Ivy strongly instructed him to refrain from mentioning or implying anything about the third book at least for now."The account is private. You should send a friend request or a private message to connect. If you want, I can send the request and probe some more," he asked.Cela could not answer right away. She gets more excited by the minute like a young girl who just learned new information about her crush on campus. The graphics design is certainly Nate's and she's just a friend request away to finally reconnect with him after so many years without a single word from each other."The account owner who I assume also owns the shop knows him for sure. Actually, they could be business partners," Hyun said.Cela remains silent. Hyun sensed that she's thinking again."Ms. Cela, just send me message if you need me to help you further," he said."I'm thinking if we can we come to that shop tomorrow?" Cela asked."Oh, tomorrow is Sunday, they're probably closed. Most shops in that area don't open on weekends," Hyun said sadly. He didn't expect her to be that excited to go to the shop."Monday then?" she asked."Monday it is. Let's go meet him!" he said."Okay, let's do this. Who knows, that third book is already on its way," Cela said.Hyun's eyes grew bigger. Thankfully, they are just talking on the phone and Cela can't see how excited he is to hear the news first hand from her.
Tomorrow will be perfect.
Cela spent the entire Saturday afternoon browsing movies and series to watch on cable channels and streaming sites. She ordered and ate a lot of her favorite foods. She did everything she could to keep her mind away from the thought of meeting Nate for the first time after so many years. It's now past midnight but she's wide awake. It may be an old habit that will take more days to change. She wants to keep her phone out of her sight but that's another habit that will not go away any time soon. She hates the frustration brought by not being able to see Nate's profile. Like her, he keeps his account private. She wonders if he also tried even once to find her all these years and did he also get frustrated when he couldn't view her account? Will meeting her also bring him excitement like it does to her? Monday finally arrived. It's the most anticipated Monday in her life for as long as she could remember. She thought she just experienced the slowest Sunday in history wanting
"Hey, where am I? Why is it dark here? Am I dead?" Cela asked herself. "Oh, no, no, no…it can't be. I can't be dead. I still have so much things to do that I haven't even started yet," she continued talking to herself in the dark.Hyun nervously waits outside the emergency room. He just called Ivy and asked her to rush to the hospital. "Hyun?" Somebody called him but the voice is not familiar. He turned around and saw Nate."I followed you here as soon as I learned about what happened," Nate explained. "Where is she? Who's with you?" he asked.Hyun could not answer immediately. He is still shocked and confused at what happened.Another voice called him. This time, it's Ivy. "Nate?" Ivy asked. She too knew Nate from high school. She's just not sure why he's here."Ivy? You're here too?" Nate asked. "Let's talk about that later. Anyway, Hyun, please tell me what happened," Ivy asked. Hyun was about to answer when Rolan came rushing. He looks very concerned but is tryin
Monday traffic starts to build up in the afternoon as office workers are rushing home. Nate is driving back to the gallery from the hospital. The things that happened that day were unbelievable and he can't get over them yet. The day started like any other ordinary day and never in his imagination that it would have this much happenings. He searches for good music to accompany him during the slow drive. The louder the better to distract him from thinking of things he's not supposed to entertain. While searching, he called Nina on the phone. "Hi, hon. Where are you?" Nina greeted him. "I'm on the road. It's traffic as usual," Nate said. "What else is new? How's your friend?" Nina asked. "She's okay now," Nate replied. "Please wait for me for another 30 minutes," he said trying to avoid the topic. "Oh, hon. I am actually with my high school friends right now. They came to the gallery this afternoon just after you left and surprised me with what they say is the first of the m
"How long has it been? I learned you're now an architect. Well, I'm a writer now. I came by to thank you for visiting me in the hospital. I apologize for making you worry."Hyun drives the car while Cela looks outside of the car's window. She's still thinking of ways to start the conversation with Nate when they meet that day."Are you okay, Ms. Cela?" Hyun asked. "Do you want us to turn around and go back to your place or go somewhere else?Cela turned to Hyun. "But why do we do that?" she asked.Hyun just smiled. No need to answer or explain his point. He knows she wants this meeting to happen whether she's ready or not."It's now or never, Hyun," Cela said as if she read his mind to know what he's thinking. The turn of events is real quick. It was just yesterday when they first learned about the gallery where they could possibly see Nate but one thing led to another and here they are again. This time, Cela ensures that she will meet Nate at all cost.A young lady came out an
Rolan anxiously waits at the lobby of Cela's condo. He's been trying to reach her multiple times but her phone is off. He thought of calling Hyun but decided to just wait. It's been raining for almost an hour now but the sky still looks dark. Ivy walks fast as soon as she got off the cab and went straight to the reception area of Cela's condo. It didn't take her another second to realize that Rolan is standing next to her. They're both surprised by their second unexpected encounter."Ivy," Rolan said.Ivy hesitantly smiled. "Hello. We meet again," she said."Good to see you again," he said with a big smile. He is obviously thrilled."Why are you here? Are you waiting for your sister? Is she going down now?" Ivy asked a string of questions to hide her awkwardness."Actually, I've been waiting for her but she's not in her unit yet and her phone is turned off," Rolan said. He saw an opportunity to begin a casual conversation."Is that so? Let me call Hyun. I knew they're toget
The night sky is pretty but this Tuesday evening is boring for Cela. There's nothing to look forward to the following day. It's not even relaxing because she's still feeling the effects of the drama that happened in the past few days and nights since her supposed break started."And they thought being busy was sad and bad to our well being," she told herself. Her brother ordered some delicious dishes earlier that night. Besides wanting to be present in her life again and see her new place, he dropped by to tell her that they've been invited to their high school's grand reunion where all past and present benefactors will be honored. As children of their late mother who was one of the biggest benefactors of the many students of th school, they are invited to receive the award on her behalf. Of course, it's needless to say that she turned it down in an instant. So now, there's nothing left to do. She sits in front of her laptop hoping for any idea or inspiration to come in but nothi
"I can't believe we are ending another art exhibition in the gallery," Nina said.Nate didn't seem to hear her.Nina gave him a kiss on his cheek to bring him back."Hey, busy day? Deep thoughts," she said.Nate smiled. He's embarrassed that she caught him while his mind was wandering."Not really. The activities this whole month must have gotten over me. My mind wanders for no reason," he explained."I told you to let the wedding organizers do their job. They're actually surprised that the groom is more hands on than the bride," she said.Nate hugs her soon-to-be bride. "I think I can rest a little after the gallery's activities are over," he said."What have the gallery's activities got to do with you? It's my area, my job. I should be the one getting stressed out balancing and managing my job and the upcoming wedding," she said."I don't want you to be stressed. I share everything with you," Nate said as tries to kiss her."Hey, it's too early to be clingy. Why don't we thin
The phone rang for more than a minute before it could wake Nate up. He's exhausted from working on his sketch the entire afternoon yesterday apart from doing other things related to his real work and his upcoming wedding. The clock shows 9AM."Good morning," Nina greeted him on the other line. "Did you just wake up?" she asked."Yeah, I did. I'm so tired. I'm not gonna lie," Nate said."Oh, my love. Just rest until you are okay. Anyway, it's already Friday. You can relax plus I will treat you to dinner later," she said with excitement."That sounds like a plan," he said."Can you bring the bigger car later? I have some large artworks to bring to our sponsors," she asked."Sure. I'll be in the gallery probably after lunch. Make sure to have your lunch. I'll get some more sleep," he said."Okay. I love you," she said that surprised him."That's a first," he said.Nina hung up before he could say more and prolong the conversation.Nate is suddenly thrilled by Nina's sweetness th
The blue sky with the setting sun and the cool breeze make a perfect late afternoon at the park. This is one of those moments when it is certain that nothing will ever go wrong. It’s like the answered prayer that finally came after years of waiting, longing, and enduring sadness.Anyone can stay in this moment forever.Cela looks at her picture from her phone. She smiles at how she looks on the picture taken more than a year ago on the day of the viewing of her last book that was turned into a mini movie aired on television. One of the guests snapped a photo of her while trying to collect the roses that fell on the floor after she tripped. The picture is not bad at all. She turned into a meme that is rarely seen as beautiful rather than funny. She feels good about it and the memory of that night becomes a constant reminder for her to move forward and get what she deserves.“Hello,” she picked up her phone.“Hey, I’m leaving my hotel now. I can pick you up from your hotel,” Nat
“Are we all good to go for the viewing tonight?” Lora asked her team.“Yes, Ms. Lora. Everything is ready for tonight,” her assistant confirmed.“How’s the attendance?” Lora asked.“Only one has not confirmed. Nate Romero,” her assistant said.Lora sighed. She feels that the tiny hope is fading completely.“That’s fine. Our bosses are the important guests. Finally, this project will be over and we can plan for the next one soon,” she said.Cela’s entourage waits for her at the lobby of her place.“Wow, the gang is complete!” she said. “I’m staying here. We’ll wait for you to come back after the viewing,” Nanny Rita said. She’s holding her new born baby girl.“That’s a good idea. This cutie must take care of my place,” Cela said of Nanny Rita’s daughter. “Besides, your mother knows everything and beyond than what we are about to see in the viewing,” she said.“Good luck! Everything will be good,” Nanny Rita said.“How are you feeling, sis?” Rolan asked.“I’m okay. Everythin
Nate could hear Auntie May’s laughter from outside the gate. He thought she’s having another lunch with the ladies from her group in the church. To his surprise, she’s only having coffee with Dina. The two have grown closer these days.“How come you’re back already?” Auntie May asked as he's getting out of his car with those still fresh yellow tulips in one of his hands.Nate smiled at them but held back a little. After the small tiff with Dina last night, he’s not prepared to see her as early as now. “There’s something in my stomach. I had to rush back,” he said.“Those are beautiful flowers,” Auntie May said upon noticing the flowers.Nate looked at flowers with disappointment. “I wasn’t able to give them away,” he said.“You left without meeting your friend?” Auntie May asked. Dina quietly listens to the conversation. She too wasn’t expecting Nate to arrive around this time.Nate shook his head. “I couldn’t but I called her. I told her I couldn’t meet her today,” he said.T
Nate looks behind to check on everyone who suddenly becomes very quiet. The children are all sleeping. They’re all tired but happy from a day of activites in a different parish. Dina watches the road while a kid sleeps on her lap. Nate finds the scene very calming.“What is it?” Dina asked.“Nothing. You look so calm back there,” he said.“Hey, talk to the driver,” she said.“It’s still early. He can’t sleep while driving at this hour,” he said.“Look at these kids,” she said.Nate smiled. They’re like a married couple travelling with their kids.“Auntie May’s calling. I’ll put her on speaker,” he said.“Why are you two not answering my texts?” Auntie May asked.“I’m sorry, Auntie. We are on our way back. What is it?” he asked.“Tell Dina to come here after you bring the kids home. Her mother’s joining us for dinner,” she said.Dina agreed. They arrived just in time for dinner. Nate started browsing his messages. He couldn’t check his phone earlier.“Anything wrong?” Dina a
The morning breeze entered Cela’s room and woke her up gently. It’s a new way of waking up in the morning and so much better than waking up with the annoying sound of her phone’s alarm. She realized her phone’s battery was drained all night that made it easier for her to get better sleep.A beautiful smile quickly showed on her face the moment her phone opened. She carries that smile the whole morning.“Do you think they’re now talking?” Lora asked Hyun.“She’s not saying anything,” Hyun said. Both speak in a low voice as they watch Cela type on her laptop.“Is she hiding this thing from you now?” she asked.“It’s probably to avoid the jinx. By now, I know her well. She’s trying not to expect a lot but inside she does,” he said.“But she keeps looking on her phone. Is she still meeting me? Am I waiting for something here?” she asked.“I’m really sorry, Ms. Lora. She’s been losing her focus these past few days but you know….,” he said.“I understand and I want to be more understan
“Hyunnnn!” Hyun heard the loudest greeting from Cela that morning.“Ms. Cela, calm down. Tell me happened. Should I go to your house or to the studio? Should I call your brother? Ms. Ivy? Wait…what’s really going on?” he asked almost non-stop.“You’re so overreacting,” Cela said.“Alright, alright. I overreacted but what happened to you?” he asked.“Nate sent me a message this morning,” she said with so much joy in her voice.“Really? What did he say?” he asked with excitement.“Well, it's just the usual greeting for now,” she said.Hyun is a little disappointed but he doesn’t want to let Cela feel it.“Did he say he’s calling you any time soon?” he asked.“Oh, dear. I shouldn’t expect that but I will wait,” she said. “Surely, you can wait,” he said to himself.“What’s that? Did you say something?” she said.“Nothing, Ms. Cela. I’ll meet you later in the studio,” he said.Hyun is still in awe at Cela’s change in behavior. She’s acting as if she were a teenage girl who just sa
Cela’s hands are shaking in excitement. She just received the best news she’d been waiting for the longest time.“He contacted you?” she asked Lora repeatedly.“Yes. He replied to my message that I sent last year. I called him to be sure it was really him who replied to me,” Lora said. “You did? How’s he?” Cela asked more excitedly.“Well, it was a quick call and the reception’s not good. I thought he looked almost the same the last time I saw him,” Lora said.“Where’s he now?” Cela couldn’t stop asking questions. “He’s back from the Pines City just yesterday. He stayed there for close to 5 years,” Lora said.“Pines City? He’s been here all this time? Where exactly here?” Cela asked.“I wasn’t able to ask but maybe you could ask him. I took the liberty of giving him your number?” Lora said.“Oh my God, he asked for my number?” Cela asked.“Ah….I was very excited, I just gave it away. I’m sorry,” Lora said. “Oh no, that’s fine,” Cela said.Hyun and the others are glued to her
The rain pours down heavily, and it looks like it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Only a few tourists visit the Pines City during the rainy season and it’s perfect time for those who are seeking peace and quiet away from the noises in urban cities.Amidst the cold weather, Nate took a long stroll from the main road to the foot of the mountain where the main entrance to Pines City is. He had to stop somewhere to let the rain pass. From a distance, he discovered an old building that looks like a chapel. Later, he realized that it is the chapel of the seminary that is standing right behind it.“Good afternoon, Sir. May I still enter?” he asked the staff who is closing the chapel’s main entrance.“I’m sorry but the last mass was already finished. We have the first service tomorrow at 6AM,” the staff said.“I understand. Thank you,” Nate said. He looks so tired.“Wait. Don't you have an umbrella?” the staff asked.“That’s what I forgot,” Nate said.“Can you wait here. I’ll get
One year quickly passed leaving tons of questions and dramas, the TV adaptation of the first book of the three-part series is finally shown and it's immediately trended on social media. "Congratulations, Ms. Cela! You are now a certified blockbuster writer," Hyun said."Thank you but I'm hardly a blockbuster writer so please stop saying that. Also, I don't want to hear those compliments that may lead to more work," Cela joked."Got that," Hyun said. "But now you have no reason to decline blind dates and speed dating."Cela sighed. "Dear, you know how I feel about being pressured," she reminded him."Oh no, no, Ms. Cela. That's not my intention. All I wish is for you to never totally close your doors to these things. But please take your time," Hyun said. "It's okay, Hyun. I understand you. But yeah, I will take my sweet time. I don't feel there's a reason to rush. Besides, I am so freaking tired. Don't worry, I'll get there naturally if that's meant to happen," Cela explain
