Chapter 47

Author: No Questions Asked
"Well, since we've come this far, I suppose there's no need to hide it anymore. You'll see it for yourself soon enough, anyway.

"My backer, as you refer to him, is one of the higher-ups of the Celestial Throne, Lord Cloudrider, a subordinate of the Eastern King and one of the Four Heavenly Kings. Is that backing strong enough for you, Mr. York?"

Was it strong enough?

It was more than enough.

Ted lowered his head, lost in thought. He understood that he might not need to find another way to return or gather inside information anymore—all he required was being handed to him on a silver platter.

Ted believed what Mr. Zarkonnen had told him. From this short interaction alone, he knew that the other man wasn't a fool, nor someone who would blindly put his trust in another. It was clear that whoever it was had to be powerful and influential enough for him to be able to stake everything on that gamble.

The Eastern King was naturally strong enough to give him this confidence.

Mr. Zarkonnen's face revealed a satisfied smile. As expected, even the dazzling Theodore Quill wasn't immune to the Celestial Throne. This was the best-case scenario."There's no need to be in such a rush, Mr. York. You know how secretive the Celestial Throne is, and many things simply aren't shared with those outside. It's not that I don't trust you, but we've only just started working together. Rest assured, I will report your achievements to Lord Cloudrider, and I'm sure he can tell you anything you want to know."In fact, given your reputation, I wouldn't be surprised if the Eastern King himself came to answer your questions."Ted glanced at Mr. Zarkonnen, offering a polite smile. "I understand your reservations, but I have some things that require your clarification. If you don't help me out, there'll be no way I can proceed.""Then please, ask me, by all means. If it's something I can answer, I promise to let you know."Ted raised his glass, took a sip of his drink, and chu

"You're a sharp one, Mr. York! I hadn't even considered that, but you're absolutely right. Indeed, beyond the current Ten Monarchs, those occupying the top ten positions of the Divine Rankings represent the apex of global rankings. While it's true that exceptional combatants may hide themselves and remain unranked for personal reasons, the fact remains: the Eastern King is undeniably among the world's most formidable."On top of that, the Eastern King isn't a recluse, and he loves spending time building relationships and making allies everywhere. One day, he may become the new master of the Celestial Throne, and perhaps even a new Monarch. When that day comes, Mr. York, you and I will be handsomely rewarded."Come, Mr. York, a toast to the grand ambitions of the Eastern King, and to our bright future. We brothers have to work together, ha!"Ted clinked his glass against Mr. Zarkonnen's, a knowing smile on his face. The new master of the Celestial Throne, and a new Monarch?Buildin

The Whites were an unavoidable topic.Considering how Mr. Zarkonnen was plotting to make all of Easton's underworld his, then there was absolutely no way around it.The White family was a century-old clan, deeply rooted in Easton. While they did not expand their influence in the underground, their influence in the region meant that they were far from uninvolved. Putting Viper Scorch and his personal relationship with the Whites aside, even the two other Giants had to bow their heads and show that family respect. Not to mention, Adam White was still alive. He, alone, was enough to represent the Whites' true strength. Adam wasn't just highly respected in Easton, no. One would be hard-pressed to find anyone with influence and renown matching his, even if they combed through the entire southeast region.Hence, while Mr. Zarkonnen could afford to disregard the other Giants of Easton, he had no choice but to consider the Whites' standing. Despite his earlier tough talk, he wouldn't

Mr. Zarkonnen smiled. "You're being too much of a stranger, Mr. York. Having your help on this matter is an honor, so I'll naturally leave it all to you. Don't worry, you have my absolute trust, I assure you. So, what should we do next? I'll make arrangements for the first step."This question was also a way to test Ted, to get a glimpse into his plans. But did he really think Ted was going to let him know?Ted only smiled faintly. "Well, the first step is to not do anything. It's going to be Mr. White's birthday soon, so you're naturally going to visit him, given your status in Easton's underworld, yeah? When that time comes, I'll go see him too. It's been a while since I've met him, after all."So they weren't going to do… Anything?Their first contact would be during Adam's birthday?Mr. Zarkonnen was honestly quite thrown off by this."I'm not questioning your methods, Mr. York, but we're running short on time. Lord Cloudrider is going to arrive around the time of Mr. White'

Inside the room, negotiations were being carried out, with each man harboring their own private agenda.A wave of grim unease washed over Wolfie and his companions outside the negotiation room, their faces etched with discontent."Woflie, Boss has never treated us like this! That guy you brought back… what the hell is he doing, making a fool of us and turning Boss against us? It's completely unacceptable!"Everyone present expressed their utter dissatisfaction.Earlier, Wolfie had returned furious, saying that he'd been humiliated, and before they even stepped into the estate, a casual remark from Ted led to them slapping themselves a hundred times. Literally and metaphorically, it was a giant slap to their faces. If they could stomach this humiliation, they wouldn't be men who made a living in the underworld. However, despite their discontent, Wolfie and the others held back. Since Ted was Mr. Zarkonnen's guest, they didn't dare take matters into their own hands. According to Wo

Ted now held the authority to shape every major decision and command every employee, which meant that Mr. Zarkonnen had basically gifted him the entire enterprise, served on a silver platter! It wasn't just a matter of a single corporation—it was about everything Mr. Zarkonnen had built and his entire empire. The commercial side of the Zarkonnen Enterprise was easily worth over ten billion dollars, but even more significant was the immense influence it held in Easton's underworld. To say that Wolfie and the others were dumbfounded was an understatement.Seemingly understanding what they were thinking, Mr. Zarkonnen didn't wait for them to voice their concerns. "Nobody has the right to question my choices. Did you forget that?"At that point, any further discussion was futile. All they could do was ask him about it privately after Ted left.Wolfie took a deep inhale, and bowed towards Mr. Zarkonnen. "Your word is our command, Mr. Zarkonnen. Henceforth, we will do everything we can

Three vehicles and a security team of over ten personnel escorted Ted York as he left.Once again, Wolfie found himself in the front passenger seat, his frustration almost palpable. He deeply regretted offending Ted back in Melville. His mission was supposed to be over, yet he was dragged into serving the man as a form of retaliation. But Wolfie wasn’t stupid. He knew that picking a fight with Ted at this moment would bring him no benefit. The man had already gained Mr. Zarkonnen’s trust. Whether that trust was genuine or not didn’t matter—out of respect for Mr. Zarkonnen, no one could say anything against it."Mr. York, Mr. Zarkonnen has arranged a residence for you near the city center. Rest assured, it's very quiet and peaceful even though it's in a bustling area, so you won't be disturbed."Of course, if you're not satisfied, we can arrange a different place for you, including the chefs, security guards, and other staff who will be serving you."Sitting in the back seat, Ted

Lavender Gardens' villa district sprawled across a vast expanse, surrounded by picturesque lakes and mountains. It was a tranquil retreat amidst the bustling city, almost like a hidden paradise.Despite the massive land it covered, only thirty-six villas were built in the entire area, a testament to how luxurious and exclusive it was. That evening, after finishing his business at the White Family, Yuvan returned to Lavender Gardens and caught sight of the commotion next door.Yuvan got out of the car, looking at his butler as he asked, "Mr. Zarkonnen owns that villa, but he's never stayed there ever since he bought it, has he? Did he decide on moving back today?"The butler quickly responded, “From what I’ve heard, it’s not Mr. Zarkonnen himself. Apparently, he has an esteemed guest who will be staying there. That's why they're making preparations now."Do you have any instructions, Young Master?"Yuvan was in his early thirties, yet he looked like someone in his twenties. His sh

Pantera smiled. He had been worried Ted would conceal the identity of this woman who had dumped him, only for this Panther of Melville to come running in and mention her out of the blue.It was a huge coincidence, but Pantera frowned at Panther's rude entrance without a knock. He stayed quiet, since Panther was supposedly Ted's friend, and waited to see how Ted reacted—even though Panther didn't really look like a friend.Wolfie, meanwhile, rolled his eyes and glared at Panther like he was an idiot. He knew a bit of the state of Easton's underworld and had more or less heard of Panther. He was at best a little infamous and didn't bolster much strength… to put it harshly, Mr. Zarkonnen and the others really didn't care about him.And while Wolfie wouldn't have cared what Panther did to Ted before, things were different now.As such, both Wolfie and Pantera stayed silent, waiting to see what Ted would do.That was when Ted frowned at Panther and asked quietly, "Panther, you say?

Ted York, the former Quill family heir, also known as Theodore the Magnificent, King of the Celestial Throne, the Forsaken Emperor whose name shook the world, and the Tenth Monarch whose existence left the world breathless, was divorced? And dumped? Was that even remotely possible? The woman had to be crazy to do that.Beyond others, the countless women who admired Ted York would've all gone crazy for him.Even Wolfie, who had been silent as he stood nearby, could see that Pantera was skeptical.Pantera aside, he himself was left to wonder. He naturally knew about Ted's divorce but didn't have all the details. While he thought nothing of it before, having been around Ted and seeing the things happening around him left him questioning if Luna Lambert was really worthy of Ted.Finding a man like Ted was nothing less than a miracle against all odds, yet Luna dumped him, just like that? She had to be deranged…Nonetheless, Ted, smiling, asked quietly, "When have I ever joked about

Meanwhile, Panther put away his phone and looked up at the sign that said 'Charity Hearts', hesitant if he should barge in to capture Ted York or wait outside. He couldn't make a scene, not in Eastport—Luna notwithstanding, he himself was reluctant, as things could go bad if his presence there became known.Checking the time, he mused to himself for a moment before turning to his henchmen. "Do you think we should wait or go in?"Naturally, we have to be quiet even if we are grabbing him. Ideally, we should force Ted to come quietly so that no one notices."Panther's henchmen were left scowling at his question. How were they supposed to respond? Why were there so many restrictions when they were supposed to just grab one man?Sure, there were pros to going in, but that was only if Ted came quietly with them. One of them said, "If it were up to me, we should go in. Let's pretend to be customers, and once we find where Ted is, we will go up to him and greet him like we're old frien

Luna continued, "Moran Group has a strong influence in Easton, the family is not to be underestimated. Most importantly, they are a client we got with our own efforts, and that makes them our contact. If we want respect, we need to accomplish something on our own instead of relying constantly on others' connections."Josie nodded quietly, though she appeared hesitant. "Do we really have to? He's nothing good, and he was already lusting after you the first time. It'd be dangerous if we went straight into his turf."Leslie Moran's entire appearance was inherently sleazy—fiftyish, balding, and fat-bellied—but the man was somehow even sleazier than he looked. The prior breakdown of negotiations stemmed from Leslie's solicitation of sexual favors, including engaging in overtly frisky and vulgar conduct at the table.Just remembering it left Josie sick, as she had been molested herself. While Luna had the White family's protection, Leslie didn't know that, revealing his true nature.H

Upon Panther's arrival at Easton, Luna and Josie, having departed earlier, naturally arrived as well. However, they were still in Luna's car, and Josie promptly put Panther's call on speaker so Luna could hear everything.Orphanage? Orphans? Spending the whole morning playing?Luna was perplexed—did Ted lose his mind? Did he really think she wouldn't find him?And instead of fleeing, he ran off to be charitable? Did he truly have nothing better to do? Or perhaps he was hoping to build good karma?Still, she remained indifferent to Ted's true thoughts and promptly told Panther, "Just do as I said before. I don't care what you do as long as you grab and restrain him."Panther promptly nodded. "Alright, Ms. Lambert! Don't worry, I know what to do. It might take some time since you told us not to cause a scene, and this restaurant—Charity Hearts, is a little important, so we have to be smart about this. But don't worry, it will be done in an hour."Luna cared little about the proces

Would anyone believe it even if they were told? Naturally, there was a chance that it was true, but how important did the family have to be to actually disrespect someone like Pantera? And while Pantera knew nothing about Ted's personal life, Wolfie did all too well. The man wasn't just married—he was divorced, and to add insult to injury, he was labeled a loser and the one who got dumped. To Wolfie, it still felt like a dream. On top of that, he was interested to see how Luna Lambert would react upon discovering this. After all, the ex-husband whom she had deemed a loser turned out to be the former heir of the Quill family, a prominent guest of the White family, Viper Scorch's friend, and now, Pantera Medlar's esteemed boss.Still, it would most likely feel like a lottery winner who lost their ticket—they'd be wishing they were dead.On the other hand, Pantera's question left Ted in silence.Should he lie? No, that was unnecessary. And he wasn't afraid of embarrassing hims

When Ted York started laughing, Wolfie should have done the same, as should anyone given the opportunity to be acknowledged by a member of the Celestial Throne. But now, he didn't think of it that way. As soon as he found out about how mysterious and powerful Ted really was, he promptly threw away all his opinions and observations towards the man, because none of it was right.Seeing Ted's laugh now, Wolfie didn't perceive joy, but the same amusement he saw in Pantera.Still, Pantera actually couldn't quite catch up, and turned towards Ted as he blurted in disbelief, "I mean, I don't care how ambitious this Zarkonnen character is, but he really has the support of the East King and Lord Cloudrider? Haha! When did the Celestial Throne change its policy?"Pantera merely chuckled and eyed Wolfie. He couldn't say it because his presence might derail Ted's plan.Ted simply smiled faintly in return and said quietly, "People change, just as time changes a great many things… including pe

Pantera pursed his lips—what was wrong with Theodore the Magnificent? And it was certainly much better than 'Pants'!However, there was no helping it since Ted was the boss, and even if Pantera was himself a big deal to everyone else, he was still just an obedient henchman to Ted, a fact he would never dare argue.Ted chuckled just then. "Relax—no need to get so nervous, Wolfie. Just remember what I told you, and proceed as you should. It won't affect me if you spill the beans, but I'm going to be really upset. And if I'm upset, everything you begged for earlier won't count. Understood?""Remember the story I told you earlier? So cherish what you have and don't disappoint me."Regardless of whether Ted's words held weight, they were certainly preferable to no assurances.Wolfie was immediately profoundly grateful towards Ted, and he suddenly saw him in a different light. All the animosity and resentment Wolfie had previously harbored suddenly turned into boundless admiration for

Wolfie, however, remained on his knees, trembling and afraid to make a sound. At this point, whatever Ted York said was law—Wolfie would not dare offer even a whisper of dissent. However, he was genuinely worried about Mr. Zarkonnen, which was why he disregarded what happened to himself and begged Ted.He would never believe anything Ted said, but he was powerless, and he suspected that he wouldn't leave alive. Was what he was witnessing knowledge he should possess?Absolutely not. It had to be a secret, but Ted wasn't keeping him out of the loop. What did that mean? Was he planning to silence him? Wolfie did not even dare to think. He tried nonetheless, "M-Mr. York, I don't mind dying, and I know I have no right to ask you for anything, but I owe Mr. Zarkonnen a tremendous debt and he saved my life on numerous occasions, and I couldn't repay him. All I can do is implore you to spare his life, and I will die without regret. Please find some mercy in your heart…"Ted sighed,
