Emily's POV
I was about to leave when I heard him murmur, “Don't go, Emily. Don't leave me.”
I looked at him painfully and smiled, “It's alright, Fayne. You'll be fine. You're a strong man.”
Then I walked out of my room and flipped my hair back.
Beth was outside, tapping her feet against the ground firmly.
“I’m ready,” I told her.
“Good.”
She accessed me from head to toe and then shook her head.
“No. Something's wrong.”
“What's wrong?” I asked her.
“Your outfit.” She responded.
“Come on with me, I think I have something good to sneak you into. Although it might not be the best but it is something.”
I entered the hut with her and she led me to her room. She opened the closet and handed me a dress that was green and soft looking.
“Change into this and meet me outside,” she told me.
I collected the cloth from her and changed into it and then looked at my reflection in the mirror. I looked like the way that I did when I was living with Fayne. So young and innocent.
When I walked outside, Beth gave me a look.
“Hmm, you look incredibly good. Are you sure the man you brought isn't your husband?”
I felt red in the cheeks which made me clear my throat.
“No, he's just a friend.”
I walked over to her and she nudged me. “If you say so.”
“Where's your farm?” I asked her.
“Over there!”
She pointed at the piece of open land several walks away from her hut.
“It's not too far away.” I said.
“Well yeah, I can't go further than that before I'm too afraid that I'll run into werewolves and boom, it will be the end of my life.”
I blinked. “I'm incredibly sorry for the damages you suffered when the werewolves strummed your lands.”
“My mother died because of those damn werewolves! I'm never going to forgive them because of what happened. Ever!”
I bowed my head to her. “I'm so incredibly sorry.”
If only she knew that I was a werewolf. If so, what would her reaction be? Would she be willing to kill me?
I also didn't want to bring much trouble to her. The place that I had left Viper's body was so porous for Mattoe’s warriors to see. I wondered if Matteo would come for me after realizing what I had done.
“Hey, why should you be sorry? It's not your fault those stupid werewolves decided to strip we humans of every single thing we got.” Beth said.
“I’m sorry about the death of your mother. No one deserves to go through any of that.” I said.
“Oh..” Beth sighed, taken aback by my generousity and kindness.
“Well, it's okay now. At first I was hurt, but now I have hobbies to keep me straight. Medicine is everything for me, and agriculture.” Then she giggled as though recalling something.
“What is it?” I asked her.
“Guess how old I am?”
Thoughtfully, I said, “Peharps in your mid-thirties.”
She bursted into laughter and shook her head. “I'm seventy one.”
“What?!”
I took a step back in shock. How could she be that old? It didn't make any sense! She could be an asset to my great cause if she was telling the truth.
“Are you talking me the truth?!”
“Yes,” she responded calmly, looking a bit offended that I did not believe her.
“Then how old was your mother?”
“She was killed by the werewolves at the ripe age of eighty nine. That poor woman didn't get to live ninety.”
“Wow.” I was shocked.
“You look so young. Your medicine is really great! Does looking youthful has its side effects?”
Beth smiled. “Although I look young, I still feel the effects of aging like sore back and weak knees.”
“Do you have a disciple?” I asked.
She cackled out loud. “And why would you ask that?”
I didn't feel confident enough to answer her.
“You mean someone that will take over my legacy?”
I nodded. “Precisely.”
“Well, I don't have a disciple to pass my heritage too. But I'm also not going to die young so I'm not scared.”
“Ma'am, you're seventy one. You're passing the threshold of living to some people.”
“Pfft. Live has only begun.” She said and I sighed, deciding to leave her to her own ideologies.
“Come on, let's go to the farm, we've been chatting here for too long.” Beth told me and we walked over of the farm.
When we got to the farm, I was in awe from how it looked. We were surrounded by a lot of food items. It was refreshing to see. But that was not all, there was a collectable of ripe vegetables fresh for harvesting as well as some medicinal plants and fruits.
Beth and I harvested the items she wanted and then we headed back.
“Should I make the food?” I asked. “Afterall, you've helped my friend and I enough.”
Beth smiled. “If you insist.”
So I went to the kitchen and made some black bean and corn relish. When I was done, I served some on a plate and went to the room Fayne was in. By now, he was awake and it made me a little embarrassed knowing that we had kissed.
“You're awake,” I decided to not sound overbearing.
Fayne didn't say anything, he simply just stared at me which made me feel a bit insecure.
“Here,” I handed him the food. “You should have it. It'll help you recover.”
Fayne collected the meal with his good hand and ate the meal as though he had never eaten anything else before. When he was done, I turned back to leave only to hear him whisper.
“It hurts.”
I scoffed and walked to the exit of the room. “Don't think I'll be at your very beck and call just because you're sick.”
“I'm not lying, Emily. It really hurts.”
I became nervous so I turned around to face him only to see that he had passed out again!
Emily's POV I rushed out of the room and went to Beth.“Beth, help me. My friend passed out.”Beth gave me a look. “What? But he should be fine now if he wakes up.”“He did wake up and then he passed out while we were talking.”“Maybe he was just too sleepy and then he passed out.”“Please come check him out.”Beth sighed, “Okay.”Then she walked to the room Fayne was in with me rushing behind her. When she went to check him, her eyes widened and she seemed a little panicked.“Why? What's going on?” I asked her and she shook her head at me.Then she continued to check Fayne's body as well as his pulse. When she eventually untied his wound, she sighed as she turned to me.“He seemed to have been poisoned.”“Poisoned?”I thought of how Fayne was shot and then remembered how brutal Matteo was. If he intended to kill me then he wouldn't let my slave live either least he try to avenge me if something should happen to me.“Can you cure him?” I asked her.She sighed. “The poison seemed to h
Emily's POV “Going somewhere?” She asked me.“As a matter of fact, yes. But I'll be back soon.”Beth looked at me from up to down. “Well, you can go but be careful, there might be some cruel werewolves lurking about.”“Don't worry about it, I'm pretty cruel myself.”I winked at Beth and went to the horse and carriage not far from the house and began to lead it into the woods. I found some carrots on the ground and I fed it to the horse as well as some water. When I was done, I walked where Viper had been killed and saw that his body was still there. I removed his body away from the tree and checked his pockets only to see a purse. I grabbed it and checked it only to see that it contained silver. I kept the purse in my dress pocket and found something I could dig the ground with. Then I buried Viper in a far away distance and headed back to Beth's hut. By now, it was dark and Beth was standing outside looking worried.“Finally, you came back.” She told me, looking nervous.“Of cours
Emily's POVStanding by the window pane in my blue dress, I took out my right hand and snaked my fingers through the rays of moonlight that beamed into the room. For a moment there, my fingers stiffened. My nails got darker and elongated till my claws were fully jutted out.It wasn't a full moon that night, but I hadn't gained total control over my wolf-self.Fancied, — as though I hadn't seen my claws a million times — I swung my hand and cleaved at the window, leaving four slash marks on the glass. I had to hold back, so I wouldn't have to start clearing up broken shards of glass, again. Then I heard a voice, a familiar voice…“Ugh… Seriously, Emily, you have to stop doing that.”I retracted my claws and turned my gaze away from the window. Standing at the other side of the bed, with a hand on her tapered waist, was my best friend, Lyla Dune, a beta like me. She was much stronger though.“You know we just got that window, right? If you break this one, we'll miss the party,” she adde
Emily's POVA dream was what I thought it was. Scratch that. A nightmare would have been more suitable. But it was neither of them. It was real. Real!I could tell it was real because of the pain I felt when Lyla slapped me on the cheek. It pushed my head sideways and I hit my temple against the door’s glass. It hurt. My head spun. The next thing I could remember was seeing her crawl towards the back and open the door. But I still had my weight resting on it, so I fell immediately when it opened.I struck my body against the concrete floor of the car park. I could have sworn to hear a few bone cracks. Then the jeep roared to life and drove out of the car park, feeding me with dust and smoke from its exhaust pipe.I was left battered and bruised, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It was probably still a couple of minutes to six that morning because the sun was barely out. The surroundings were still dark and bleak.I heaved a relieved sigh that it was still early. It w
Emily's POVI woke up to find myself alone in the woods, on the night of a full moon.“Ugh…” I rubbed my glabella as my head throbbed in pain. It was as though my brain had switched places with my heart. My skull felt heavy. It was as I tried to lessen the pain that my nose twitched at the smell of a nice, savory scent. Still rubbing my glabella with two fingers, I dropped my head to see a small lunch box at my feet. It had a note stuck on it.I leaned forward as I reached for the lunch box with my free hand. I peeled off the note and brought it under my weary gaze.Even without looking at the footnote, I could instantly tell that it was from Tyler. His handwriting was unique.Reading the note in his voice, it said:“I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I had no choice. I thought you were dead.“I had to take you out of the house after you collapsed and passed out. My dad was visiting. There's food in the flask. Please eat that to replenish your strength.“And don't try to come ov
Emily's POVMy life in the palace wasn't as quiet as I'd expected, ever since I started cleaning in the palace, I had the king's eye on me ever since I started my job. At first, it started out as a curious glance and I shook it off as he was just being cautious around her due to me being new. But after a while, he assigned me to clean his own room and since then his quiet stares had incessantly increased and I felt more uncomfortable around him. I didn't make any friends in the palace and definitely didn't want to become buddies with the king. I tried to avoid him as much as possible but he was actually very persistent and frankly, there was nothing I could do to avoid a king.Soon enough, he started to talk to me with lust in his eyes. I knew that look when I saw it and I was tired of such looks, I really didn't want to be mated to anyone or even want to talk to any man. I wanted to be on my own terms for now. It was already hard enough to live with the hollow in my heart, I don't
Emily's POVI spent three weeks in the room before I decided to give the king my answer. During those three weeks, I had his undivided attention all through as he seemed to have abandoned all kingly duties. He made me his main topic and we did everything together. We dined together, talked together and I even started to confide in him a few details of my past.Whilst all this happened, I was thinking critically to myself about the choice I was going to make, it felt as if I really had no choice but to say yes. Before I did, I wanted to make sure the man I was involved with was as kind as he proposed to be. I mean a man who was four hundred years old, why would he fall in love with me? So I spent a few weeks watching his mannerisms and the hidden glances behind his gestures but I found nothing amiss. Maybe he was real I thought, maybe there was a chance that he really loved me but I knew deep down within the hollow in my soul that something was amiss. I sat down at my mirror on the f
Emily's POVA sigh escaped from my lips which made Aiden stare at me with a look I didn't quite understand.“Why do you hesitate?” He asked me.“Many reasons.” I responded. “Care to tell me?” “Well, I thought this would be my final resting place. A place I can live in until I die.”“Well, you will die if you get involved with my brother so snap out of your feelings and do the right thing.” He said sharply.“And the right thing to do is for me to leave this place.”“Ditto.” Aiden said after me which made me nod and exhale.“So… how do I escape? Your brother could kill me when he finds out.” I said and Aiden nodded.“Just leave this to me, I'll find a way for you. In the meantime, act normal around others. But make sure your things are packed just in case. And don't take too much stuff with you.”“Okay,” I said and he nodded.“Wait, what about the gate pass? I don't have it,”“You can steal it from my brother somehow.”“Leaving the risky business to me, why would I risk my life to get

Emily's POV “Emily…” he trailed off.I ignored him and led him into the the carriage and once he was seated, I looked at his hand. The blood had permeated through the fabric which I had used to tie his hand.“Fayne,” I whispered and then ripped apart another layer of my dress and tied his hand.“You do not have to do any of this.” He said.A sigh escaped through my lips. “Why are you so stubborn, Fayne?”I ignored him and turned around to leave when I suddenly felt his grip on my hand.“Fayne,” I said as I faced him.“Kiss me,” he said. “Kiss me before I die.”I stood there in confusion and shock. “Fayne, you don't mean that—”He grabbed me closer to him and before I knew it, I leaned forward out of instinct and our lips pressed onto each other. My eyes widened as I stared at Fayne whose eyes were filled with desire and many more emotions that I'd never noticed before.Fear and passion took over me all at once. Did Fayne like me?I pulled away from the kiss, stunned and filled with a
Emily's POV “I'll leave it then to you.”The warrior was about leaving when all of a sudden, Fayne leaned to the left and his leg hit a thistle on the ground causing a sound to be made. The warrior's ear tilted to the side and he looked towards where Fayne and I were hiding.Fayne looked at me with guilt evidently written on his face.“You stay here,” I said with a definite smile on my face. “I'll go face whatever needs to be faced.”Fayne shook his head no but I ignored him and walked out of our hiding place and looked between the carriage rider and the warrior. The carriage rider turned to the warrior and said, “Go, this is between me and the Luna Emily down. If she is to die, at least her honour must be preserved.”“Yes sir,” the warrior said and left me alone with the carriage rider.I looked at my nails and blew on it gently. “So you're not just a carriage rider, huh?”The carriage smirked at me. “My name is Viper, I am a trained assassin for master Matteo.”“I see. So he has yo
Emily's POV “So, let's go.”“Okay.” I responded to the Alpha of Crystal pack who led the way.Fayne looked at me and followed behind me slowly. We headed to the woods and Matteo sniffed the air.“Oh no, something's wrong.” He said.“What?” I raised a brow.“Before, I sensed some scent around here but now it's not the same. Do you think the rogues left?” Matteo looked to the Alpha of the crystal pack.“Well, I'm unsure what is going on but we'll find out won't we?”“There's land at the forefront, maybe if we go there we'll find some clue.” The Luna of Crystal pack said which led me to smile and nod.Internally, I was nervous. I hoped they did not catch Penelope, Adam and the others. If they did, I was unsure if I would be able to help them.Goosebumps covered my skin as we got to the land at the forefront, there was a running wolf that was spotted and his wolf felt very familiar to me.“There's one,” Matteo whispered. He then brought out his bow and arrow that he was keeping around hi
Emily's POV “But Alpha, what is your plan exactly?” Adam asked.“In due time, you'll know.” I responded.“By the way, you and Penelope should get going. Have the others retreat and leave. When my brother's warriors arrive, it'll be hard to leave.”“Your brother?” Adam asked.“Yes, my brother Matteo is from the Donovan pack. He has some influence there.”“Oh, I see.” Adam responded.“By the way, how do we reach out to you?”“In Galahad clan. You just have to find the chance. I'll leave the packhouse every red moon so you can find me by that time.” I responded.Adam sighed. “It really is so glad to see you again, but the jewels you gave are not enough to build a pack house.”“I'll send you more when you come to Galahad clan. But please, be very careful and don't put your life in harm's way. Walk in groups so you won't be targeted.”“Okay, thank you Alpha.”“You should get going now.” I said.“Yes,” Adam turned away while Penelope hesitated and turned towards me. “Can I hug you?”I cr
Emily's POV When I stripped out of my clothes, I got into the pond and sighed from how refreshing the water felt against my skin.“Peace,” I whispered. The fatigue of the travel slowly unraveled from me. I wondered where Fayne was but I knew I didn't have to worry as he was probably going to be somewhere around here.I felt a bit guilty as I'd told him that I'd protect him but right now, I was nowhere anywhere around him. ‘It's okay though, he'll be fine. He's capable than you think.’ my wolf came into the surface, calming me down.I soaked my hair in the water and continued to enjoy the soak, then I heard a growl behind the pond.I leaned forward, gasping while trying to listen closely for any sound. Then I sensed a presence behind me.I turned around in the pond and saw a dark brown wolf with some clothes in its mouth. I got out of the pond and looked at the wolf, somehow feeling some sort of understanding towards it. It just felt like I knew it somehow.“Who are you? And why are
Emily's POV “It's nothing like that. It's just a simple gift to acknowledge our collaboration as allies.”I looked at Matteo.“Are you allowed to talk about that?”Matteo scoffed. “Oh the rider is one of my people, we can say whatever we want around him and nothing bad will happen haha,”“Please take back your gift, I don't want it.”“Well I'm not taking it back so you might as well keep it.”I sighed and placed it on the table.“What's the plan when we get to crystal pack? The deal is that we chase the rogues from the pack but just the two of us can't do that.” I said.“First of all, congratulations on getting back your wolf. Secondly, my people are on the way, they may just arrive a little later.”“I see.”When we arrived at Crystal pack, the Alpha and Luna came out holding each other's hands. The Luna looked at me with a wide smile on her face.“I knew you'd come back, Emily. It's so nice to see you.”“Thank you, Luna.” I responded with a kind smile.Matteo and the Alpha of Crysta
