The Waterhole
***Day Twenty***
It’s been a few weeks since I first met Audrey. She took me everywhere she went and along the way, we got to know each other more. First thing every morning, she would make her way to Evander’s house. Then we would hang out until nightfall. Hanging out with her made being her a lot less painful. Almost like hanging out Anna made me more comfortable with the Blood Moon pack. And I appreciated this.
I saw Evander less and less every day. But I didn’t mind that. He kept to himself, and I did the same. It was almost like we didn’t live together. Like we didn’t share the same kitchen and our bedrooms weren’t less than twenty feet away from each other. Only crossing paths when we’re outside in the common areas of the community. And even then, he barely glanced at me. It was almost like I wasn’t there at all.
This treatment worried me the first few days of him ignoring me. I couldn
Let's Start OverWade shouted, “Commander! Mia! You guys are just in time for round two.”Remembering what happened after the last guy touched me, I wiggled free from Wade’s hold. “What’s wrong?” Wade asked.Mia grabbed Evanders hand and tugged him towards the water until they were floating next to us. And without any words, she jumped on his shoulders.“Alright, now it’s a game.” Wade playfully said. He seemed to be the only one who was unaware of the situation. And I was partly to blame.Wade tried to help me back upon his shoulders, but I panicked. I moved away from him.“Don’t be rude Zaya. Get up there.” Evander said to me with no emotion. I couldn’t help but fear what would happen next.I did what was asked of me and got back on Wades’ shoulder.Mason, Wade, and Evander moved in circles trying to give us girl
Breaking BonesAfter our run together, our relationship changed. It was almost like he needed it more than I did. Afterward, we both got dressed and we proceeded to hang out.We talked over a few drinks while sitting outside under the bright moon.Evander asked the same questions that Audrey asked. He wanted to know about my history. I explained in detail who I was and where I came from.“So Godric gave me a tribute that didn’t belong to him.” He laughed at the idea while drinking his beer. I laughed at the irony. I was in fact his.I was done talking about me. And I didn’t want Evander to start asking me questions about my relationship with Godric. I turned the focus of our conversation to him.“Tell me about your upbringing? I know where you were from. But how did you become a commander of a great army.”“I come from a long line of commanders. My grandfather an
Thanks For Breakfast***Day Twenty-Five***Audrey’s revelation of how Evander became a rogue left me in a state of shock. His mate, who he loved more than anything, was killed in battle. Led to her death by a senseless command. And his grief led him to kill the third most important person in the pack. The Beta.I couldn’t believe my ears as the story unfolded into something dark. The torture he brought upon the Beta is why everyone around him feared him. Including me.But no matter how much I feared his angry side, I pitied him. The loss of a mate was a hard thing to deal with. On a rare occasion, the Moon Goddess would give the blessing of a second chance mate. It seems Evander didn’t get a second chance. He was stuck mate less forever. For two weeks, I held that information in. I never let him know that Audrey told me his story. And I never told him that I saw the picture. I decided I
The Invite***Day Forty***A heavy pounding woke me from my slumber. It took me a moment to realize the pounding was coming from the front door. Evander was already walking down the stairs by the time I opened the door. One of the soldiers was standing in the doorway trembling. “Sorry Commander for waking you so early but a letter just arrived from the Blood moon pack.”My ears perked up at the mention of the Blood Moon pack. I feared the worst. Was there something wrong with my parents?“What does it say?” I asked him without giving him a chance to read it.Evander opened the smooth white envelope. Inside was an invitation. My stomach almost dropped at the sight of the white card with fancy writing. A wedding invitation.“The Alpha King…..You are formally invited….Yada. Yada. Yada…. All Saints Ball.”“A ball?” My s
All Saints Ball***Day Forty-Seven***The four of us arrived in the Blood Moon pack lands a few hours before the ball started. Visiting packs were given cabins on the outskirts of the land to prepare and stay the night in. Ours was a two-bedroom cabin with a kitchen and living area. More than enough room for four people.Audrey and I got dressed in one room while Evander and Mason took the other roomI tried to calm my nerves while getting dressed but it was impossible. I’ve been gone for almost six weeks. I was excited to see everyone. Although I still couldn’t fathom why Godric invited us here, I was happy he did.A light knock at the door let us know the men were ready. Mason greeted Audrey as she answered the door. His hand was stretched across his chest giving the impression that his breath was lost in her beauty.Whatever attraction Mason felt towards her, he was no longer intere
A Quick ReunionEvander, Mason, and Audrey all stood there watching me interact with Godric. I tried to step away from him, but Godric held firm onto My hand.He directed his attention to the group while still holding on to me. “It’s nice to see you again Evander.”“Same to you Alpha Godric. I was surprised to receive your invitation in the mail. Seeing as though I am no Alpha, and my community or rogues are not recognized as an official pack.”They both chuckled. “I guess we both know why I invited you here.” Godric admittedly spoke.Evander nodded his head. “Well. You have laid eyes on her. You now know I stayed true to my word. She is not starving somewhere in a cage.”“Yes, I see that. But I’m not the only person who wanted to see her.” Godric pointed to the left and my parents were running towards us.“Zaya!” M
Late NightsMy emotions were everywhere. On one hand, my need to be with Godric was still strong. And on the other hand, I know we could never be together. But my heart couldn’t take seeing him with another. When we pulled up to the cabin, I exited the car alone. When the rest of the group exited, I heard Mason say, “We’re going to take a walk. It’s too nice of a night to waste inside.”He and Audrey made their way towards a wooded trail.I walked inside the house with Evander hot on my heels. He snatched my arm turning me to face him, just before I made it to my room. “I’m not going to ask you again. What is wrong with you?”I sulked for a moment before answering. Crossing my arms across my chest. “I’m just tired of not getting what I want in life.”“And what do you want?”“For once, I would like the person I like
No Loyalty***Day Sixty***It’s been two weeks since the All Saints Ball and so much has changed. Starting with Mia and Evander. Since their fight, she never returned to his house. And surprisingly, she kept her head down about it. I expected her to be a bit more like Sophie but she bowed out gracefully. Making me feel even worse about it.I knew they weren’t mates, but Mia had feelings for Evander. She must have, after opening herself up to him for so many days and nights.I wondered if she had feelings for him long ago when they left their pack. Mason was Evander’s second in command of the army. And also, his lifelong best friend. Naturally when he followed Evander out of the pack life, so did Mia. I always assumed it was from loyalty and love of her brother. Now I think I may have been wrong. Maybe it was because of her own love of Evander.“She doesn’t love him.&r
