Hello again, dear readers. This is your host, The Diwata, again telling you stories from beyond. And this time, we will be talking about a theater diva that seemed to never want to leave her beloved stage. As of this time, she is believed to have been haunting her theater for more than 70 years now.
Meet Marissa, the theater actress, through my student friends…

HANGING INCIDENT #1
So it seems that Marissa (now known as Marita) has had a variation of stories through the years. And it would seem she has a flair for reruns as most of the stories seem to be repeated but with different people (and plays) involved. Please note that this story is dated around the late 2000s since I was a student in UP during that time. I submitted this as part of my report for a class project. The worst one was what happened to *beep* in “Hinabing Pakpak”.
The story behind that was that there was a guy who was going to hang himself because of poverty and he was involved in a rape case. In that scene, a rope would come down from above and the kid would reach for it and then put the noose around his neck. Then lights off onstage.
On this particular show, the actor was now standing on the said ramp and has placed the rope around his neck. Then suddenly the actor’s mouth started to foam like he was having an epileptic attack and he jumped from the ramp!
Since he already had the rope around his neck the hanging has become real. One crew member went in to hold him while others helped remove the rope and lay him down on the stage. The actor, when he came around, didn’t remember what happened at all. He remembered blacking out but did not remember jumping from the ramp.
And no, he wasn’t an epileptic.
Many of us saw this and were so terrified. And then we remembered the story of Marissa, a theater diva who hanged herself in the same theater where we were holding the production.
Later on, I would find out that this incident has happened before from a friend's story…
HANGING INCIDENT #2
The conclusion of my Marita story is very similar, except that my story happened around the late 1980’s…
Remember that in the previous story, she has already tried to kill the actor who was portraying the rapist/antagonist in the play. In this story, my friend, who was portraying a rapist in the play, would hear someone calling him while in the upper dressing room beside the catwalk.
One time he did step onto the catwalk and he almost fell because he felt someone pushed him. But when he turned around, there was no one there. Good thing he was able to hold on to the railings or he would have had a serious accident.
But as I said, Marita/Marissa wasn’t done with him.
A bit of info about the play: It ends with the rapist being hanged. The contraption they used was an uber-large movable wooden wall with a painting of a large tree on one surface. The rope was solidly attached to the wall via the wooden braces behind it. That’s where the wheels were attached so they could roll the tree in during the very short lights out between scenes.
They also had an assistant behind the wall who would push three small blocks of wood so the actor can hold and step on them once he was “hanged”. Of course, they were camouflaged with paint so they would merge with the backdrop.
Basically, when the actor falls from the small landing in front of the backdrop, before the rope snags his neck, the assistant will then push the three blocks forward so that the actor could use them to support himself from actually getting hanged. Blocks 1 and 2 supported his hands and Block 3 supported his legs.
He hardly used the ones for his hands because he was afraid that the audience will see through the illusion and lose the dramatic effect of the scene. And it made such a great impression.
Let’s go through technical rehearsals so you can envision how this contraption works…
Lights out. Ghost-like voice over.
Lights on. Lots of people looking at the actor who’s standing on a ledge in front of the “tree”.
Lights out. Loud noise.
Lights on. The people are gone.
And the actor is hanging from the tree with “nothing” supporting him underneath.
Music fade in. Light out.
End of scene.
Everything had to be timed just right or else the hanging will truly kill the actor.
So the final show began and everything went on as usual…
Except that, this time, the assistant COULDN’T PUSH BLOCK THREE IN!
The actor was already kicking the wall and was holding on to dear life using Blocks 1 & 2 to hold him up but the rope was just too tight around his neck and he was weakening due to the lack of oxygen.
The assistant was already panicking. He pushed and pushed with all his might but he couldn’t budge the block!
During those years, there were no portable mics or radios back then to ask for help with. Worse, he had to wait until the lights were off to help the actor. The poor worried assistant was already swearing, praying, and screaming in his head.
The same was true with the actor.
The minute lights off came, the assistant ran to the actor, hugged the now unconscious man’s legs, held them as high as he could then started yelling hysterically to the backstage people (uncaring if he was heard by the audience) KEEP THE LIGHTS OFF! DON’T
TURN ON THE LIGHTS! HELP ME! *Bleep* JUST GOT HANGED! NO TO LIGHTS ON!I don’t remember if the actor got sent to the hospital or he was revived backstage. But thank God the dramatic ending of the play (which was the death of the antagonist) didn’t happen, on stage… or in real life.
See how similar the stories are?
It looks like Marissa doesn’t care if she’s in the afterlife but still continues to do all these things. Not really surprised. The show must go on, after all.

So there you go, dear readers. And those aren’t the only stories that star this devious diva with a vendetta and many of them are quite terrifying. I promise you, there will be more stories about her, and spirits like her, in the future.
I truly hope that you enjoyed these stories. Meanwhile, I will have to say goodbye to you. My pets are waiting to be fed.
Thank you and goodnight.
Good evening my dearest reader…I’ve been preoccupied these past few days with my new friend. He’s a young boy of seven and he recently was left to his father. His mother has decided to leave him to have a new husband but I believe she has her reasons. But the boy is truly heartbroken so I introduced myself to him. He has now abandoned killing himself and we are pretty close now.Of course, he is not our story for today. The stories will be told by two of my other student friends who have experiences both
I absolutely adore butterflies, dear reader! I try not to play favorites with my pets since I do love all of them, even the poisonous spiders and vicious praying mantis. But just like the crow, butterflies seem to be connected to death, but in a more subtle and positive way…Join me today, The Diwata, as I ask one of my very special human friends to talk about butterflies and their most beautiful but mysterious connection to the afterlife…
Hello there dear reader, maybe I should share a little more about myself before we continue. I am what you would call a moon deity. Some think that I inhabit trees, but they’re not exactly incorrect. Since trees absorb moonlight as much as they absorb the sun’s rays, I feel I am one with them somehow. If you ever want to feel my presence the most, try going out while the moon is full and stand beside a tree then close your eyes.Of course, if you are terrified of the dark, I suggest you avoid doing this. Your fear might invite “other” less friendly and more malevolent beings other than me. And believe me when I say that this has been proven by the many paranormal experts and magic u

Well dear readers, did you miss me?Have you experienced laughingso hard because you’ve heard a ghost story from former critics of your ghost stories? This is one of the stories that really made me laugh for the same reason. It comes from another one of my human friends. And yes, this is a scary but funny story.++++++++++++++&
Hello again, dear readers... I'm back again, as promised. Speaking of promises...Do you keep your promises? Or are promises meant to be broken? There are people who never consider following through with their promises or even forget about them. Others believe that their word is bond, like my own Eron. And sometimes, these very committed individuals will find themselves staying, despite death, just to fulfill their promises to a loved one...++++++++++++
Hello again, dear readers! I was wondering, who among you here have what most people would call a “third eye” or a “sixth sense”?Well, if you do have those gifts - some call it talents, skills, etc. - you would be able to see me. And a lot of other things too…There are those who ha
Good evening my dearest readers! I’m looking at my human friend’s stories right now, deciding which one I will share with you tonight.Yes, she’s the one who performed in the Noh play in our past chapters. She’s actually a member of the Paranormal All-Stars and is quite active in documenting their stories, cases, tours, and experiences. So yes, there are quite a number of tales here in her journal. And they are all so g
And now, comes the last chapter of this very long but very eventful story.Enjoy, dear reader!+++++++He swept his room with his gaze. His sights then turned towards the wall clock. It was past three in the morning. He could only shake his head and weep. If only he knew that this would happen to them, he would have stopped their group from playing with the Ouija board. He wished that Mark was still in school. Maybe Rachel would still be able to stay sane today. Chris would p
Well hello again, dear readers. I'm hoping that you are enjoying this story since you're almost at the end now. Even if you're just reading out of curiosity, I hope that it's already partially satisfied with all the happenings and information that are being brought to light. And once again, one has to wonder, why did they not reconsider playing such a "game" and is the price of such "play" was worth it. It could have helped if they had an expert to guide them but no, they went ahead and did what they thought was "fun"...Dear reader, are you having fun while going through their sto
And finally, we are introduced to the specter who first showed up during these student's Ouija board session. Unfortunately, he isn't your typical ghost...He is vengeful, murderous, and violent. If only the student
Maurice, on the other hand, couldn’t help but smile. He thought that Kuya Devin was taking the notion of him having a third eye too seriously. “What does Mike look like right now? Ask him if he’s okay.” He was trying to hold his laughter in as he asked.Kuya Devin didn’t bother answering him. He just looked at Mark and after that, suddenly changed the topic. “Didn’t you guys also see the ghost of the kid I was talking about? Didn’t you see her hanging from the tree?”
Devin, for some reason, had managed to tell some people about his crazy experiences recently. To be honest, he really didn't want to because of the possibility of being called crazy or too imaginative. It's not exactly what he needed right now, considering everything that has happened. It was, therefore, a relief that someone did acknowledge his visions. And it was quite a surprise for him to realize who it was.“You have a third eye,” Mang Ronald, the elderly janitor, said to Kuya Devin, “You can see ghosts.”
The janitor has a very important role in this story and I don't intend to jump the gun.However. we will be jumping to the time where Devin has already gotten home from school and has just taken a nap. Nothing in this world would ever prepare him to what will happen next.Enjoy, dear reader...++++++++++Kuya Devin was woken up by sound
At this point in the story, Rachel interrupted Mike."And what you saw then was actually inside the school grounds, right?"Both guys looked at the spaced-out, wide-eyed girl sitting on the edge of her hospital bed. Their surprised expression was very evident, especially with Mike.
Even now, Mike hasn’t told anyone about the frightening experiences that he was having. Not even to Kuya Devin, who was the only person who would believe him. So even if they decided to meet up so they could visit Rachel, he kept his mouth shut about what he was seeing the whole time they were together. He didn’t want anyone to know that he was also being disturbed by ghosts.
Our narrator then took some time off because he was busy with school work. Now I'm starting to wonder if he and his cousin Devin attended the same school. What do you think, dear reader? All I'm really thankful for is that this story has been documented in Paramdam although it is written in the author's local language. At least I have managed to share it here with you.But enough of that...
