BRODY'S WRATH

Meanwhile, Jasper stormed through the corridors, his mind reeling with conflicting emotions. He couldn't shake the feeling that he had made a terrible mistake.

But he refused to acknowledge it. He would not be swayed by his feelings for a servant.

As he entered his chambers, he saw a figure waiting for him - Alira, the elderly servant who had been kind to Athena.

"My lord," Alira said, her voice trembling. "I saw what happened. I am so sorry."

Jasper's eyes narrowed. "You dare to pity me?"

Alira stood tall, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I pity Athena, my lord. She deserved better than your rejection."

Jasper's face twisted in rage, but Alira's words struck a chord deep within him.

Jasper's anger faltered, replaced by a creeping sense of doubt. Had he made a mistake by rejecting Athena?

Alira's words echoed in his mind: "She deserved better than your rejection."

He tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered, gnawing at his conscience.

Meanwhile, Athena walked through the dark corridors, her heart still heavy with rejection. But with each step, she felt a sense of liberation growing within her.

She was free from Jasper's toxic grasp, free to forge her own path.

As she turned a corner, she saw a figure waiting for her - Lucas, the mysterious rebel who had been secretly helping her.

"Athena," Lucas said, his eyes gleaming with warmth. "I heard what happened. I'm so proud of you for walking away."

Athena's lips curved into a small smile. "Thanks to you, I had the strength to do it."

Lucas's face softened, his gaze locked onto hers, before leaving her. "You are strong enough on your own, Athena. But I am glad I could help."

Athena's heart skipped a beat as she saw the sincerity in Lucas's eyes. Maybe, just maybe, she had found a true ally - and something more.

Athena's moment of triumph was short-lived. Brody appeared out of nowhere, his face twisted in rage.

"You dare to defy our Alpha?" he snarled, his fists clenched.

Athena stood tall, her heart beating in her chest. "I will not apologize for speaking the truth."

Brody's eyes flashed with anger. "You will pay for your insolence."

With a swift motion, he grabbed Athena's arm and dragged her to the training room. The other servants watched in silence as Brody forced Athena to her knees.

"This is what happens when you cross our Alpha," Brody spat, his foot raised to strike.

Athena flinched, but Lucas appeared out of nowhere, his eyes blazing with fury.

"Leave her alone, Brody," Lucas growled, his voice low and menacing.

Brody sneered at Lucas. "Mind your own business, rebel."

But Lucas stood firm, his gaze locked onto Brody's. "I will not let you hurt her."

The air was electric with tension as the two men faced off.  Finally, Brody backed down, his anger simmering just below the surface.

"This is not over, Athena," he snarled, before storming off.

Athena let out a shaky breath, her heart still racing. Lucas's hand on her shoulder was a warm comfort.

"Thanks for standing up for me," she whispered.

Lucas's eyes softened. "I will always protect you, Athena."

Athena's eyes met Lucas's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The air was charged with a newfound awareness, a sense of connection that went beyond mere friendship.

"Let us get out of here," Lucas said finally, his voice low and husky.

Athena nodded, her heart still racing from the confrontation with Brody. She followed Lucas out of the training room, her eyes fixed on his broad back.

As they walked, the tension between them grew thicker, like a palpable fog. Athena couldn't help but wonder if Lucas felt it too.

They reached the servant quarters, and Lucas turned to face her. "You okay?" he asked, his eyes scanning her face.

Athena nodded, her lips parting slightly. "Yeah, thanks to you."

Lucas's gaze dropped to her mouth, and for a moment, Athena thought he might kiss her. But then he looked away, his jaw clenched.

"I will always protect you, Athena," he repeated, his voice rough with emotion.

Athena's heart skipped a beat. What did he mean? Was it just friendship, or something more?

Athena's eyes lingered on Lucas's back as he walked away, her mind racing with questions. "Hey, Lucas, wait up," she called out, running to catch up to him.

Lucas turned, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What's up, Athena?"

"I just wanted to thank you again for standing up to Brody," Athena said, her voice sincere. "I owe you one."

Lucas's expression softened. "You do not owe me anything, Athena. I just didn't want to see you get hurt."

Athena's heart skipped a beat at his words. "You are a good friend, Lucas," she said, trying to sound casual despite the flutter in her chest.

Lucas's eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense. "I am more than just a friend, Athena," he said, his voice low and husky. "I care about you deeply."

Athena's breath caught in her throat. "Lucas, I"

But before she could respond, Lucas's eyes flicked to something behind her. "Ah, perfect timing," he said, a sly grin spreading across his face.

Athena turned to see what he was looking at, and her jaw dropped in surprise. There, standing in the doorway, was a familiar figure - Alira, the servant who had been kind to her.

But that was not the surprise. Alira was holding a small, adorable puppy, its fur fluffy and white.

"Meet Snowball," Alira said, smiling. "I found her hiding in the stables. I thought you two might get along."

Athena's heart melted at the sight of the puppy, and she felt a surge of gratitude towards Alira. "Thank you," she said, taking the puppy from Alira.

As she cuddled Snowball, Athena could not help but notice Lucas watching her, a soft smile on his face.

As Athena cuddled Snowball, Lucas approached her, a curious expression on his face. "You know, I never thought I would see you with a puppy," he said, his voice low and teasing.

Athena smiled, feeling a sense of joy she had not experienced in a long time. "I never thought I would see you smile like that," she retorted, nodding towards Lucas's soft grin.

Lucas's smile faltered for a moment, before he looked away, his eyes clouding over. "Yeah, well. I guess we are both full of surprises."

Athena's heart went out to him, sensing a depth of emotion beneath his words. She reached out, placing a hand on his arm. "Hey, Lucas? What's going on?"

Lucas's gaze snapped back to hers, his eyes searching. "Just” he paused then continued, “stuff, Athena. Don't worry about it."

But Athena did worry. She could see the pain lurking in his eyes, and she wanted to help him heal.
