The days turned into weeks and then months. Gabe was always with her even after she stopped working at the high school and then changed her hours from the graveyard shift to the day shift so the two could have the nights to themselves. They had gone to two services in those first few weeks. They had also made a stand when people questioned the two of them being together.
“Larissa, I got some news today,” Gabe said as he walked into the house while she was cooking some noodles for their dinner.
“What is that?” she asked without turning around.
“Remember at dad’s service you asked me to leave this job, and I told you I would apply to the middle school a few towns over?” Gabe asked as he placed his things down on the table and then walked to in the back of her.
“Yeah, I remember that.” She said.
Inspiration Lewis Capaldi Hold me while you waitChapter 1Dawn Newberry walked onto the campus of the local college and could feel all the butterflies in her stomach take flight. She knew that she was different from every other person on the entire campus, and though she was special in some ways, different was not good when dealing with other people. She hated the idea that she was there. She was small and knew that she had mapped out the campus and had the map in her mind. She was going to take forever to get to one side and back. Her legs kept moving, though, knowing that she was probably going to be late regardless of whatever she did to try to make it on-time.She had been told from the Dean of the college that all her professors had been told of the slight difference with her. She knew that only meant one thing. She was going to be singled out even more. She would rather explain it he
Dawn walked into the chemistry building to find the teacher there waiting for her. “Dawn Newberry, I presume?”“Yes, sir.” She said as she looked up to him with her bright blue eyes.“I see it now.” He said with a soft smile. “The admissions board contacted me and some of the others to discuss you. We have a few minutes before class begins, so I would like to talk with you myself before allowing you into the classroom.”“Okay,” Dawn said as she looked at the man whom she could easily read as one of those professors who took safety seriously and was proud of what he had achieved in his life. She understood these people. They had worked to build a good structure in their classrooms. She could easily distract from that.“Why are you here?” He asked.“To learn.” She replied.“That i
He stood up and began to get ready to walk out. “Where are you going next?” he asked as he looked down at her. She already felt small, but when he stood up, he dwarfed her. She had to crane her neck backward to see his face.“I have an hour off, and then I have an English class,” Dawn said as she grabbed her bag.“Mrs. Little?” he asked as he made his way to the door.“Yeah, How did you know?” Dawn asked.“I have the same class.” He laughed. “Come on, kid. We can go there together.”Dawn had no idea that meeting someone who would be nice would be easy here. She thought they would all think she was a freak like the others she had known. Her friends couldn’t play with her anymore. Their parents didn’t like her now that she was different. They all looked at her weirdly. They looked at her parents, though with anger. Dawn kne
The pair were seen together through the days from fall to spring. They had three classes together, and those were the ones he wasn’t having trouble in. She spent most of her free time tutoring him on the other three. Because of her, he was passing now, and they laughed about it. They talked almost every day as well. Over the breaks it was weird to have the other one not around. Though it didn’t change once they were back together again.“Mav!” She said as she came running up to the bench. They always met up at before the long walk to one of the buildings.“What, Kid?” He asked as he looked up to see her flushed and smiling. At seven in the morning, she was never that happy. He knew this was going to be good.“You remember that astrological science group that meets here on campus on Friday nights and also Saturday’s?” She asked as he w
Over the summer, they attended the meetings, with her father dropping her off and Maverick bringing her back to the farm later in the evening. The next day was often the worst for her because she would still get up before the sunrise to do the chores she had been assigned. The fact she was different didn’t get her any special treatment on the farm. She was okay with that. Her parent's divorce was being dragged out in the court system even though all the kids had said who they wanted to live with already, and their parents were not contesting that at all.Maverick knew that she had told the courts she didn’t care who she had to live with. Her father had taken most of the custody when it came to her, but it was still a problem because of her being in college and her needing a ride to and from school. Her mother had little to no contact with her. Dawn wasn’t all that surprised by that either. He was, though. He had n
“What do you mean you can’t take me home because no one is there?” She asked with wide eyes. “You do realize I am there all the time with no one there. Plus, some of the workers are there.”“People who have no place watching you.” He said as she huffed, and he began to laugh. “Stop acting like your surprised, Dawn. You know by now I am not going to let you be in a situation that could end badly.”“Mav, fine, I will call a taxi.” She said as she looked at him.“Like hell, you are.” He replied. “The deal I have with your father is that I am watching you until I take you home.”“But you aren’t really watching me. I am not a baby that needs twenty-four-hour watching Maverick.” She said. She was mad and upset. He saw that clearly as he looked at her. He didn’t want to have this argument with her in the f
The drive to the farm wasn’t all that long. Though he knew this was not probably the smartest thing to do, he couldn’t argue with her. He honestly didn’t know why he voluntarily took this child as his responsibility, but he had as it seemed that no one else seemed to care what happened to her, including her family. They were the worst to her he had seen.Though she didn’t fit in at the university either. Most people ignored her and she was fine with that. She really didn’t try either. When they got there, even to his untrained eyes, the farm was huge. There were so many cows there in the open-walled barn that she didn’t seem to think anything was different. She went and opened the doors to the large farmhouse, and he followed her in. He saw the wall of photos that had to be her brothers and sisters that were scattered there just hanging up. He didn’t see many of her there. He didn&rsquo
“Excuse me?” Maverick said in a deep growl, and the shadow came to a halt. They looked around and saw him. “I do not believe that she needs any company.”The person bolted out of the hallway and then out one of the doors. Maverick could breathe a bit better after realizing that he had saved her from probably some more trauma. Now he really didn’t want her to be alone. This was the final straw. He went over to the door and opened it and saw she was fast asleep, still on the bed. He shut the door behind him and went back to the couch though he thought it was too far away from her room. Whoever that was, knew she was supposed to be there by herself. That bothered him, but he couldn’t tell but generally who the other person was.He would have to look over the workers her father had there and see if he could see someone who met the description he had. This was not okay to him. It was planne
10When dinner was brought to the private rooms of the Master of the castle the three young women who did saw the couple on the back deck, they were wrapped up together deep in conversation to which none of them could hear. They glare at the woman who had just shown up with no warning, while their eyes rested on their lord the six of them softened.“I know what we have to do.“, one whispered.“What is that?“, the smallest of them asked.“A Yosei.“, the first young girl said.“That is a legend. She is just like you are me.“, the third girl spoke.“Look at her. She has the lord wrapped around her finger. She is Yosei. That is the only explanation.“, the first one hissed.“What do you plan on doing?“, the third asked.“We ha
9The announcement went as he expected. His people all loved her he could see that. That made him pleased as well. It was one thing he didn’t think he really cared about, but he did. She was now his intended bride. He did see the looks from some of the staff, the younger females, as he made the announcement within the castle’s walls. They were not happy with his choice. Though he meant to file that information away if any problems should arise he would know where to look, he was simply too happy to remember. He had done the unthinkable for himself, he had found a woman that wanted to stand next to him, not for the notoriety of it or the power of it, but one who wanted to be there. She had worn a traditional kimono for the announcement. Though it played with the
8It had been a quiet week for the two as he caught up with his own work as she had stepped in to help the staff with whatever needed to be done. Mitsuhide was watching her talk to the senior housekeeper on doing something a little different than they usually did it. As like every other time she had suggested something it went smoother and saved time. The head housekeeper was in awe of the tiny slip of a woman as were most. Except for a select few of the younger staff, everyone loved her, and they all had hoped an announcement would be made sooner rather than later. The longer he waited to make the announcement the closer it was that she would either leave or one of the other warlords would show up at the door and try to whisk her away. He was honestly surprised that it hadn’t happened yet. Hideyo
7“Do you see anything you wish to have?“, Mitsuhide asked as he followed her from stall to stall as she looked at everything.“Oh no, you have done too much already, Mitsuhide.“, she replied.“Have I?“, he asked. “I don’t see that I have. Do you like the colors in your room?”“The blue. Yes, it is my favorite.“, she replied.“You do not make it easy, Princess.“, he chuckled. “Let me get you something.”“Mitsuhide, I don’t need anything.’, she smiled.“Then I will have to guess, my dear.“, He said softly. The older man who was the stall keeper smiled knowingly at the exchange. He nodded to Mitsuhide and smiled softly toward the Princess.“Might I interest you in something My lord?&ldqu
6Usually an early riser Mitsuhide he often beat the others in the castle awake. After the night before he had allowed himself the comfort of sleeping until daybreak, but he was not the first awake. As he looked at the open door, he saw a shadow of the person who must be sitting out there. He at first wondered who it could be, it took only a few seconds for the realization to hit that it was her. When he rounded the corner, he saw her golden hair slightly wild, and her pale cheeks flushed from the slight wind. Her eyes widen and seemingly ready to learn. He could see the intelligence in them. She softly smiled. “The bed was much more comfortable than the ground.“, her voice soft.“Well, I should hope so.“, he replied. “What is that bag you hav
5“You know who I am?“, she asked as she looked at the man who was staring at her.“Should I?“, he asked.“You said you like you knew who I was.“, she said as she let her disappointment show.“You do not know who you are?“, he asked.“No, I do not. I hit my head last night. It must have been hard. I don’t know who I am or where I am.“, she stated. “The first thing I remember was looking at the lake in darkness. I can remember certain things but not others. I knew the sound of the horse, but not the name of it. I knew a sword and how to use it, but can’t remember how I know. The man who brought me here said it is uncommon for a woman to be able to do what I did.”“You killed three men?“, Mitsuhide asked.“Yes
4The morning light woke her from her slumber. She began to walk around a little further than she had the night before. She was still a little tired from whatever had brought her there to this place. She yet couldn’t name herself or where she was all she knew was she could get another fish when she was hungry. She looked at the lake again, sitting on a rock she watched over the water for what seemed a few minutes but when she looked up the sun was directly over. She worked the rest of the time to make a stronger shelter for the night. She was proud of the lean-to she had made. If she didn’t know where it was, she would have lost it. She lit another fire as she waded into the water and grabbed another fish. She repeated the process as the sun wa
3When she made it to her office an hour later as everyone had stopped her for the gruesome details of the night prior. She was disgusted with the behavior of the grown adults acting like school children waiting for the next piece of gossip. She forgot about the underside of how to be an adult. They were some unspoken accusations of maybe she didn’t do enough because she wanted the job that her boss had. This from a group of people who also could have jumped in and helped but did not.She hated them. Hated all of it. She went into the office and plugged in her drive. She uploaded the files and sat there looking as they were copied into the drive. She saved each one
2“What?“, he sister replied.“Come on I just had the day from hell just tell me what you need.“, the tiny woman replied.“Well, I kinda need to ask you for a favor.“, Susie started.“I figured as much.“, she replied.“Come on sis, you sound like dad when I ask him.“, Susie stated.“Suz, I just told you I had the day from hell. I really mean I had the day from hell. I’m tired, worn out, and well frankly I hurt like a mother-“, she started.“Come on now.“, her sisters normally calm voice went up an octave.“So what or how much do you need?“, she asked. Knowing this conversation was going to go around in circles for hours, and she wanted to sleep jus
