Luckily for me, it's been smooth going so far. I haven't encountered any trouble yet today and hope it will be like that for the rest of the day.
I quickly get myself ready for school.
On getting to school, I hoped and prayed once more for today to be normal for me.
I keep my head down as I find my way to my classroom. My stomach keeps grumbling because I haven't had my breakfast yet.
I check my phone for bank alert, as today is the last day of the month, waiting for Mrs. Johnson, whom I work for as a library assistant, to give me my salary.
So I keep checking my phone as I sit down on my seat—in the far corner of the classroom near the window. I pretend to be looking out the window while at the same time being alert and listening to everything around me. And I rather sense that my classmates are busy today, as they gather in groups talking among themselves.
I use my listening ability to hear what they are talking about properly.
"Did you hear Steph? He is coming tomorrow. I'm so curious how he looks. I can't wait to see him." I hear the pack's slut, Chloe says.
"I heard he is so handsome and that he thinks his mate is in our pack; that's the reason why he is coming. I really hope I'm his mate." She adds. I wonder who they are talking about. Who is he that got every one of them worked up?
"The pack is so lucky to have him choose our pack to transfer to and will surely be happy tomorrow, most especially me." Chloe continues.
I'm beginning to get more curious as to who is coming tomorrow.
Usually, visitors from other packs do come to our pack for a visit, but there's rarely a case where they attend the school. It's actually very difficult to transfer schools between packs. Only very few people are privileged with the power to do so. These people are the royalties and those special cases where the royals and the wolf councils agree to transfer an individual with a special reason. So definitely the person coming will be either case.
"I'm so excited too, Chloe... I've been wanting to see him up close. I only got the chance to see him from a very long distance, and that was just three times when I followed my parents to the council meetings." Stephanie, one of Chloe's friends, replied.
My curiosity got the best out of me when I moved slightly to the side, making it very obvious I was listening to them.
The next thing I noticed was a book flying towards me. At the last moment, I managed to dodge it by shifting to the side, and the book landed on the floor with a thump.
I heard loud gasps as most of the students present were surprised I could avoid it.
I think mostly because, first, the speed at which the book was thrown wasn't normal, and it was with the intent of causing damage. Therefore, I shouldn't have been able to avoid it so fast since it was believed I have no wolf.
And also, my head was lowered when it was thrown, so they didn't expect me to avoid it since I didn't see it coming.
"How did you do that?" Chloe demanded coming to me with angry steps. I chose to ignore her and kept quiet.
"Answer me..." she said as she slapped me
This time I didn't avoid the attack but braced myself for it. But who would have thought that the moment she slapped me, her bones were heard broken, and following that was the scream of Chloe's voice?
"Ahhhhhhhhh...my hand...she broke my hand..." she shouted dramatically. What a drama queen! Isn't she a werewolf with her wolf intact and also has the ability to heal faster than humans? Serves her right anyway. Right now, I believe the whole school heard her voice, and literally speaking, they did. The moment she screamed, a large group of students and teachers rushed into the class.
"What's going on here?" The moment I heard that voice, I visibly shuddered. Leon, the pack's alpha to-be, asks as he walks in. He is mostly the instigator of the maltreatments I face, and there's no length he has gone to make my life a living hell. That's why today has been feeling so unreal for me because it was going just too smoothly to be true.
Well, it seems I've short-lived my smooth-going day so far. Now I prepare for the misery that's about to happen.
His gaze scans the class before landing on me. He growls out as he notices me looking at him sneakily. I quickly lowered my head.
On seeing him, Chloe ran to him with tears running down her face.
"Leon, she broke my hand."
"Really, how did it happen?" As far as we know, she has no wolf and is nothing less than a human." He said as he walked towards me. He stopped in front of me and said with venom laced in his voice, "Freak, answer me. How did you do it?".
I chose not to answer and kept my head down.
"Answer me," he demanded, using his Alpha order on me. (AN: She was born into the pack as a werewolf but not bonded with the Alpha, making her not having any mind-link with the pack. But she's still a member of the pack. An alpha's command can still be used on her.)
I notice that it doesn't work quite well on me...I just feel it slightly. I was shocked. It should have total control of me like it usually does before, but now it's just slightly that I can choose not to obey it. I think he also felt it because I felt him being shocked for a bit before he covered it up with his viciousness.
Wait a minute... I felt... like I seriously felt his feelings just now. How is that possible? How can I feel his feelings and him being an alpha-to-be at that? I tried feeling his feelings again, and all I feel coming out of him is anger at not understanding and controlling me right at the moment. I also feel his wolf trying to gain control because he could not tolerate disobedience. I sighed and chose to obey his alpha control
"I don't know, " I said in a small voice but every one of them can still hear me because of their high hearing ability
"You don't know..." he roared, losing control to his wolf. He raised his already clawed hands and was about to attack me with them.
"Leon... stop," his mate, Ever quickly went forward to stop him before he does. She gave me a sad look before dragging him out.
Well, that was close. God knows what would have happened had his mate not stopped him. I sit back in my seat as everyone else dispatches, and the teacher also entered right at that moment.I think it's high time I left the pack.I've been thinking about leaving for some days now, ever since the changes started. I can only hide them for a while. I don't know what will happen once they are discovered. Today was a close call, and I can't afford for them to know. It could lead to my death once discovered.Luckily for me, I was soon forgotten because of the excitement in the air. Mrs. Johnson even added a bonus to my salary because of it, which I was grateful for since I can now add more to my savings. The day went by quickly, and classes were over before we knew it.When I got to the packhouse, everywhere was filled with preparations, and I knew for one that I would definitely be ignored for the rest of the day and mostly tomorrow also hopefully. I quickly went down to my room and locked m
ZEID"Zeid... come to my study right away," the king, my father mind-linked me before cutting the link once more.Ever since my 20th birthday, my father has been wanting to pass over the throne to me but couldn't because I haven't found my mate. He has been persistent in helping me find my mate, to the extent of inviting almost every female werewolf in the whole of North America to the palace daily.Despite that, I still couldn't find my mate.I keep telling him that when it's time I will find her, but no, he wouldn't listen. All he wants is for me to find my mate so he can pass the throne to me.His excuse is that I'm fully ready to take the throne and that he entirely trusts my ability to lead the werewolf kingdom.Anyways, I'm actually the one in charge of mostly all the affairs of the kingdom; all he does is for him to put his approval on the necessary documents... so I wonder why he is still in a hurry to pass the crown to me.I don't mind it anyway; I'm already used to being in c
Zeid"You can both leave to prepare for your journey," my father said as he dismissed us.***We arrived at my mate's pack, the Blood Moon pack, precisely at 12 a.m. the next day. When we got there, it was the Alpha and the elders that came out to greet us, but at the same time, we could hear the sound of music playing from inside."Welcome, Prince Zeid, Prince Brice." They all greeted us, bowing their heads. My brother and I acknowledged them with a nod and followed them into the packhouse. On entering, my wolf started becoming restless, and I knew my mate was nearby.I tried to calm him down as I tried...take note, "tried" listening to the Alpha as he introduces me to all the elders one after the other.God knows I can't remember a single person's name among all of them. All my concern right now is to locate my mate.I mind linked my brother to keep the Alpha and the elders occupied while I excused myself.I take a turn to the corridor at the right, where I feel the mate bond getting
AshleyI ran as fast as I could to my room and picked up my already packed bagI know no one will be after me right now because they will want to leave a good impression on the prince's mind. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't hurry up.I know the moment they have the opportunity, I won't be left untouched for what happened.I heightened my hearing to check if any hurried footsteps were coming my way, and truly no one was coming.I took a deep breath and whispered to myself, "Now or never.".I opened the basement door quietly and checked the corridor once more to confirm if anyone was approaching. Once I confirmed it, I heightened all my senses to help me leave without being noticed.I quickly arrived at the pack's boundary.I take one last look at the pack before turning around to walk away, not regretting my decision to leave. Not even after finding out my mate was Prince Zeid.Like seriously, my mate is the prince Zeid of all people. How epic could that be?That me, Ashley has the pr
ZeidOn walking into the restaurant, my gaze moved across the room as it landed on her. I moved to walk towards her when I felt a hand on my arm stopping me. I growled in warning at Brice"Calm your ass down, bro," he said, rolling his eyes"You don't want to scare her away again, right? Remember how long it took for us to locate her. You wouldn't want to look for her for that long again or longer even," he said, pulling me to sit in one corner of the restaurant.Your Highness, Prince Brice is correct. It wasn't easy locating your mate. It's better if we don't rush things and take it one step at a time," my gamma Rye said he agreed to Brice. "Why not let me walk up to her and make our order to see her reaction first?"I nodded in agreement to Rye and sat down. It took all my willpower not to stand up and walk up to her. I can't help it. Looking at her now, she looks so different from how she looked when I saw her in her pack. The differences in her appearance are just too much. She loo
Ashley"What...what do you mean 'by I'm not coming back?"He walks to the driver's side and hops in. "It means what it means. You know what? I think I prefer it when you don't talk or ask questions," he said, driving out of the parking lot. I shut my mouth and turned back to see Prince Brice and the rest enter the other vehicles I failed to notice were there before following behind us.I look at the restaurant where I work fade slowly as we move farther away from it.My heart becomes heavy as I wonder where he is taking. Is it to my old pack or the palace? What is he going to do to me? Is he going to punish me for running away? Many questions keep coming to mind as I twinkle my fingers together, trying to calm myself down.I looked at him and couldn't help being drawn to him. He is just what you call perfection, but I won't let his look distract me from my current situation.I need answers to the questions in my mind, and I can only get them by asking him.I took a deep breath and dec
Ashley"Alpha," she said, suddenly bowing her head to him.I was surprised by her action and widen my eyes. Wait a minute, my eyes were opened, but I remember closing them before. When did I open them without me realizing it? Okay, hold on, that's not important. How did she know what I'm thinking? Can she hear my thought? but how?.I widen my eyes more as I realize she just greeted Prince Zeid. Can she see him? Can he see her? But how is that possible? Am I going crazy here? no, I'm not crazy that I'm sureI slowly turn my head to look at the prince to confirm my thoughts. Seeing his shocked expression and his train of sight that definitely wasn't looking at me but past me confirmed my thoughts that they can see each other."You can see her?" Still, I asked him to confirm it fully. That was when he finally looked at me with questions written all over his face."What's going on here?" he asked me, confused.I turn to look at the Airwoman. 'Since I don't know her name, I've decided to ca
ZEID "What's going on here?" I asked my mate, in which she turned to look at the woman for explanations, which she explained. The woman whose name she later said was Hera explained the situations to a certain point to the both of us, but despite the explanation, there were still some things that left me confused, like, was it not only the royal family that had the privilege to own special powers, but it could still be understood that because she's my mate, she also could be entitled to a special ability just like my parents, but according to what Hera said, she has more than one ability, which I can also have access to whenever I'm in close vicinity with her? Hearing that she possesses the ability to limit my access to her abilities filled me with a profound sense of sorrow. Why would she want to block my access to her powers as I am her mate? Except she doesn't want me as her mate; would she think like that? Was that why she ran away when she first saw me without allowing me to have
At my question, he looked away, unable to meet my eyes. After a lengthy silence, he finally sighed and softly whispered, "That night, I was not myself. It was the red blood moon night, and I couldn't control my actions. On every red blood moon night, every creature that was yet to have a partner in our kingdom was unable to control their transformation and urge to copulate with the opposite gender. Hence any creature that was still single on this night would find themselves in a precarious situation. For those with royal blood, the situation was even more dire. The urge and lack of control were ten times stronger than the average changeling. We can hardly control ourselves, and most times, we tend to isolate ourselves completely from others to avoid any potential harm or consequences." He said with a heavy heart before walking the short distance to the window and staring blankly into the distance."That day I had been away on a trip that needed my very presence. It was one that I coul
"What? My father?" I looked at the 'young' handsome man in front of me in disbelief. He was claiming to be my long-lost father, a fact that seemed impossible to comprehend.I mean, how could someone this young be my father? He looked so young that he could easily be mistaken for my older brother. He was fair, almost pale white. His unfathomable, golden-brown eyes contrasted exceptionally with his light-toned face. His chestnut-colored hair pulled back into a neat ponytail; he truly was the epitome of elegance and grace. He had a certain air of wisdom and maturity that was beyond his looks, making it even more perplexing to accept the fact that he was my father. With his cheekbones and piercing golden brown eyes, he certainly had the same striking features as me, making it difficult to deny that we were related. However, that wasn't the thing that got me perplexed. It was his status as king that got to me the most."Wait a minute. You mean to tell me that you are my father and also the
Unknown POVKnock, knock, knock. The knocking on the door disrupted the activity that was going on behind the closed door, and a series of frustrated curse words came gushing out of the mouths of those occupying the room."Greetings, my Lord. May I come in?" A man in a combination of black clothes with an eye patch on his left eye, with silky long black hair tied together at the nape of his neck, said towards the door to the man in the room."Didn't I mention it earlier that I'm not to be disturbed? Why do you think that you could disobey my orders?""A-apologies, my Lord, I came bearing news of great importance that could no longer wait for a moment." The man standing outside the room stammered."What is so urgent that it couldn't wait until morning and had to trouble me on it?"The man's disgruntled voice grunted out between groans of pleasure as the owner kept pounding the female bent before him with urgency. The sound of flesh hitting flesh increased drastically along with the wai
"Yes, we are changelings. We can change our appearance at will, blending seamlessly into any environment or society. We are a rare breed, feared and misunderstood by many. But to those who truly know us, we are loyal and protective friends."Hmm, loyal and protective indeed. With a sly smile, he added. "For thousands of years, we have stayed hidden, isolated ourselves from the rest of the world, until recently. There are those who no longer like the way we keep to ourselves and want to let the world know of our existence. It's probably one of them that you encountered before me and that tried to harm you. The reason behind that attack is unknown to us, but rest assured, I will protect you from anyone who tries to harm you and also find out who has done such a thing and the reason behind it. I will get to the bottom of it. But for now, this is all I can tell you. I will leave the rest to your father to explain to you when he comes to see you."The whole information about their being wa
"What do you mean by that?" I was confused by his words. Why is it his duty to protect me?"Protecting you is my sole purpose," the mysterious figure replied with a calm and reassuring smile. "I was privileged to be appointed by your father to protect you at all costs."Perplexed, I repeated questioningly, "My father?" I wasn't sure if I heard him correctly.Growing up, all I heard about him was that he was a beast that had forced himself on my mother and had his way with her. I never imagined that, apart from hearing about my father in the same sentence as a monster, I would hear about him in a different sentence entirely different from the ones I had grown up with. I had no idea if he was even dead or alive, or who he was or even looked like. There was nothing to tell me anything about him. The word father to me was more like a passing word that was used to insult me when needed."Yes, your father. He is very much alive, and he sent me to look for you and protect you as soon as he go
I quickly walked toward the door and hoped it wasn't locked, but my hope was dampened when I tried the handle and found it wouldn't budge. I became more anxious as I realized that escaping was going to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. What to do?What to do?I searched around the room to see if there was another way out.The window.I quickly darted toward it and checked if it was unlocked. To my joy, it was. However, that joy was short-lived because, as soon as I pushed it open, I realized that it was way high above the ground, and attempting to climb out would be extremely dangerous. To be precise, the room I was placed in was at the top of a tall tower. I was trapped. No wonder they hadn't bothered sealing the window shut. It was impossible to escape.Feeling extreme despair, I collapsed onto the cold stone floor and held my head with both hands. A sense of hopelessness washed over me as I realized there was no way out.I stayed that way for a while, only to hear a wiz
"Hehe, I didn't think it would be this easy after everything that had happened so far," another male voice said."Of course it is. That was why I told you guys to let me do it since no one would suspect me and I have the closest access to her." I heard Agatha's voice say, surprising me. I didn't expect her to be involved in this. I never for once thought she was involved in the whole thing."Yeah, let's get out of here before they notice her absence and come searching for her," the first male said."As if they would. No one cares about her that much, especially not her so called mate." With a smirk laced to his voice, the second male replied."Let's just get out of here before they notice her absence for too long. "Before they realize she's missing and start looking for her," another voice said, and I felt my body being lifted and moved right before I completely lost consciousness.Prince Dante's POVI know I've not been the best mate to her, but I needed to keep my distance from her
By the time I finished taking my shower and came out of the bathroom, the prince had gone, with no sign of him ever being there in the first place. I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment and longing. I had thought that since he had taken the time to come to the room today, we would have had a chance to finally talk and get to know each other better. But now, it seemed like that opportunity had slipped away.Talk of someone who goes and comes as he wishes, it was clear that he had no intention of working on our mate bond—at least not now.It was quite disappointing, but who was I to blame if not me? I could understand his unwillingness to complete the mating bond between us.After all, I was the one who worked as a spy for the enemy and is still being suspected of working for the enemy, no matter how subtle they seem not to show their suspicions towards me.I let out a deep breath and went about doing my usual routine for the day.By evening, the dress finally came from the
On getting to the prince's private quarters, I was extremely tired and fell asleep immediately. However, I was woken up by a loud noise in the middle of the night and jolted up from the bed, frightened. Initially, I thought it was the prince who had entered the room, but to my surprise, it was a shadow hidden in the darkness of the room that sent chills down my spine."W…who is there?" I called as I quickly reached out to switch on the table lamb that was placed beside me on the bedside table. However, when the light illuminated the room, there was no one there. Instead, only a cold, empty silence filled the air.But I could not be wrong about what I had seen. I was certain that I saw a shadow in the corner of the room right before I turned on the light, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that someone or something was watching me. But since I didn't see anything, I tried to put the unease feelings aside and went back to sleep. But the lingering sense of unease stayed with me through
