I sneak into Gabriel’s condo and watch Davina from the living room window. Gabriel’s condo is perfectly across from Davina’s. I know it’s creepy but I want to know more about her. I watch Davina cook her daughters dinner and they all sit at the small table eating and laughing together. They all are playing shoots and ladders after dinner. It seems as though they are enjoying the game. They then go into the what I am sure is the bathroom as the twins come out with wet hair. The girl’s room is not the bedroom that faced towards Gabriel’s apartment so I can’t see what they’re doing but I imagine Davina is getting the girls dressed and reading them a story before bed. At least that’s what I’ve always imagined my mate would do for our kids. Twenty minutes later she comes out of the bedroom and shuts their door. Davina starts cleaning up around the house. Putting the board game away, cleaning the dishes and sweeping the floor before going into her own room. I continue to watch as she sits
Davina I wake up at five in the morning like I always do. I reach under my bed for my prosthetic and grab the cover out of my drawer. The hospital was generous and made me two in case something happens to one of my legs. I never paid a single bill. Uncle said an anonymous donor paid for everything and I never found out who. I wake up the girls so they can get ready for school and I head into the kitchen to make their lunch. “That’s my shirt,” I can hear Malayah yell. “No it’s mine Malayah,” counters Maliyah. I sigh. “Y’all better figure it out or it’s going to be mine and neither one of you can have the shirt.” The girls tend to fight a lot and I am trying to let them learn to get through their arguments on their own, but sometimes I just had to intervene. It’s too early for the fighting to start. “Sorry mom,” they both say. I peak my head in their room to ensure they really are getting ready before heading to my room to get myself ready. I have to sit and take my prosthetic off
“Don’t grab a box that is too heavy Davina,” says my uncle as he heads inside. I roll my eyes. It annoys me when I am treated like I can’t do things like normal people. I grab the nearest box despite what my uncle said. It is heavier than I anticipated so move to adjust my weight but as I do I end up slipping and falling backwards with the box. I try preparing myself for the impact with the cement. I close my eyes, this is going to hurt. Instead of feeling cement I feel arms around me. I look up at who has caught me and it is Derek. “Are you okay,” he asks. He has me in a bridal carry with his right hand on my right shoulder and his left hand under my right thigh. My heart is beginning to race with fear and memories start flooding my mind. I stare at Derek and can’t find any words. He sets me down. “That could’ve been a nasty spill. Can I help?” He takes the box out of my hands, setting it back down. I still can’t say a word. He’s reaching towards my head and I flinch. “I’m sorry. It
Keila continues, “Davina remembers very clearly what Enzo did to her from start to finish. And it started with his hand on her right thigh. It’s a trigger spot and sometimes trigger spots for people can cause flashes of memory to resurface.” I hang my head in shame. I have hurt my mate by making her relive a horrible moment in her life. “Don’t feel bad Derek you didn’t know. And you still need to act as though you don’t know. I am only telling you this so you can ensure to not touch her there. Even if it’s to catch her from a nasty spill.” “Help me make it better. I don’t want her scared of me.” “I doubt she is scared of you but I’ll go see if she’ll talk to me.” Keila leaves and heads upstairs. Nero is trying to take over to follow Keila and Mark grabs hold of my wrist. “Down Nero, you’ll just make her shut everyone out more. Leave her be,” says Mark. He whimpers before retreating to the back of my mind. “Ugh…I take a step forward and I feel I just went backwards ten steps with he
Davina I am glad I called Michael and had that training session. I feel more confidant. I went to sleep easily last night and after waking up I feel like it’s the first time I’ve actually slept in six years. I had no dreams and no anxiety about going to sleep. I get out of bed to wake the kids for school and make their lunch. “You seem happy mama,” said Maliyah. “Well everything is perfect. I have two beautiful daughters and the restaurant is still going strong. I’m happy.” “Well then we’re happy too,” says Maliyah and Malayah nods in agreement. Malayah may have nodded yes but her facial expression tells me otherwise. “What is it Malayah?” “Will you ever tell us about our father?” My eyes go wide. I did not expect that question. Neither of the girls have asked about their father before. I put no one on their birth certificate and gave them the family name. I am not sure what to tell them. They’re too young to know the truth. “I will one day. I promise. When you’re older.” “
Derek I watch Davina walk away after I have just asked her out. My wolf is howling so loud I don’t hear a word Mark is saying. “Earth to Derek,” says Mark waving his hand in my face. Keila then pinches my arm. “Ow, what the hell Keila, why are you always pinching me?” “I just wanted to let you know you aren’t dreaming,” she says laughing. “I can’t believe she said yes,” I say in a state of shock. I had fully expected to her to say no after what had happened. She was so frightened. I hope this is a turning point for her as well as for us. “So where are you taking her,” asks Mark. “I’m going to take her to the stables and we’re going to go riding. I’ll have a picnic waiting for us at the end of the trail. I figured we eat and get to know each other but have her back not too late. I don’t want to push my limit with her.” Especially since I already freaked her out once. “Who knew you are such a romantic,” teases Mark. I punch him the shoulder but he doesn’t even wince. Geez we ne
“We had a rider that was wheelchair bound. My sister had Bonnie trained for those with a disability,” I explain. I then get on King and we start heading down the trail. It’s a beautiful day for a ride. I look over at Davina and she’s smiling wide. “You doing okay over there,” I ask. “Yes I forgot how much I love to ride. So you ride horses, own many companies, and essentially run a free program for children to ride horses. Is there anything you don’t do,” she giggles and I laugh with her. “I don’t fly.” That earns me a laugh. I could listen to that all day. “Will you tell me a little about you?” “Sure what do you want to know. I’m sure Keila has told you lots already.” “She actually hasn’t. She said I’ll have to get to know you myself. Let’s start simple. What is your favorite animal?” “That’s easy, wolves.” I snap my head up looking at her. I didn’t expect that answer. Nero is jumping around all excited wanting out. I push him back making him whimper. “Just cause she likes wol
“You are a very curious girl.” She laughs. I love seeing her smile. I want to run my hand over her cheek and kiss those plump lips of hers. “I took some mythology classes while in school. Just for fun. They’re so interesting. Did you go to college?” “Yes and no. When my father passed I had to quickly learn the family business so it didn’t crumble which left no time for school. Once I got the hang of it I took online classes to complete my prerequisites. It took me four years to complete that. I want to get my degree in business but I’m not sure how long that’ll take since I can’t commit to my studies like a typical college student.” “I know the feeling. It took me six years to complete my business degree. You’ll get there I bet. Looks like we both missed out on the typical college experience.” “Do you regret it? Not being able to go in person?” “I won’t lie. Being a parent, let alone a single parent, I sometimes regret the decision I made. I always wonder the ‘what if’ question.

Derek As soon as we touch down on the runway we both unbuckle our seat belts and rush out the door as soon as it’s opened. There are two cars waiting for as I instructed. One to wait for our luggage and another to immediately take us home. I order my wolf to speed home. Davina hasn’t spoken a word since we left. I can tell she has been trying to communicate with Malayah with no luck. I have been practicing using my telepathy as well but haven’t been able to get through either. It’s weird being able to do that in my human form. I try communicating with Mark. “Mark can you hear me?” “Derek?” “Yes it’s me.” “How are you doing that?” “I’ll explain later. Any leads?” “No, she vanished. There is a package here for Davina though. It’s spelled shut. I think only Davina can open it.” “We will be there in ten minutes. Meet us in the conference room. Have mom keep the kids busy.” “Will do bro. See you soon.” The connections ends and I look at Davina. She is still concentrating. “Davina
“They look like they are having a lot of fun,” I giggle. There is a picture of Owen with glitter in his hair.“My mother sent me this yesterday. They are doing fine.” The pictures ease my anxiety and a server brings out our dessert. A simple cheese cake. I love cheese cake. This is truly the best evening and it’s only day one. Derek’s phone rings and he rolls his eyes silencing it.“Shouldn’t you take that?”“Whatever is going on I left plenty of people in charge to handle business matters. You have my attention this whole trip.” I smile as the phone rings again.“Derek just answer it.” He looks down at the phone and frowns.“What is it?” He answers the phone without answering my question.“What’s wrong mother?” Calista wouldn’t call unless something happened. My heart begins to race. I shouldn’t have left my children. “Call detective O’Neil, we are on our way.” He hangs up the phone and dials another number. “Jack get our plane ready we are heading home immediately. I look at Derek w
“Don’t panic love. Just calmly swim back to the boat.” I go to turn around are there are some blacktip reef sharks between us and the boat.“Derek?”“It’s okay, they won’t bother you. Plus you are a dragon that controls water. Just move them with your water powers.” I concentrate and make a water current that pushes the sharks further away so I can swim to the boat. I turn and I see the hammerhead next to Derek. Derek is remaining as still as possible but he needs air. I use my water powers to push the hammerhead away from Derek but the sharks tail hits Derek in the head causing his snorkeling gear to get knocked of this head. Derek is knocked further towards the sea floor, doing a few somersaults. “Shit!”“Derek are you okay?” He looks around confused for a second. He doesn’t look to be holding his breathe. “Davina, I’m breathing.”“What? How?”“I think we should head back early and call Dimitri. This is too weird.”“I agree.” We decide to head back to the boat and ask Hank to take
DerekWhen we begin to descend I wake up Davina. It’s about eight in the morning in South Carolina but here in Bora Bora it is two in the morning. But I am not tired and have other plans for the rest of the night with her. “Where are we? How long did I sleep.”“Look out the window love.” I know she won’t be able to see anything.“Umm..it’s dark out. I can’t see anything.” I chuckle at her. The steward asks us to fasten our seatbelts. We touch down and begin exiting the plane. It’s definitely warm out tonight. “Where are we?”“Welcome to Bora Bora love,” I whisper in her ear. She looks at me and smiles. “Really?”“Yep and I am glad you napped on the flight. I have other plans tonight.” I can see a fire in her eyes and she wants the same. I lead her to our private hut. Our luggage has already been brought to the room so there is no one to disturb us. “I’ll need a few minutes in the bathroom,” says Davina as she takes her suitcase into the bathroom and locks the door. What is that wom
“Derek, my wolf, my best friend, father of my children. When you walked into my restaurant for the very first time I felt this pull towards you. I couldn’t explain it but I felt safe when you were around. You were so patient with me and so kind moving our relationship at my pace. You made me feel confident to face the world and move past my fears. I am not the same girl I was a year ago and I have you to thank for that. You not only accepted me for me and my past but you also accepted my daughters. I couldn’t ask for a better father for my children. It’s a shame it did take you so long,” she laughs and so do I and the crowd. “I promise you my undying loyalty and love. I will stand by your side and love you forever even after I die.”“The rings,” says Dimitri. I turn to Mark and he hands me the rings. “Derek, do you take Davina to be your wife, to live together in holy matrimony, to love her, to honor her, to cherish her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsa
Derek I am super annoyed I got kicked out of my own room again. I haven’t seen Davina all day. I almost made it to the nursery to see her and the kids but Mark stopped me. I could smell Davina as she left the nursery for our bedroom. I can hear the girls chatting and laughing while they are getting pampered. I’m glad I rented the spa chairs. It sounds like they’re all having a good time. I’ve been rocking both the twins for quite some time before Mark walks in. “We gotta get you ready bro, guests are starting to arrive.” I sigh, not wanting to put my babies down. “Will you take Thierry and put him in his crib.” Mark walks over and takes Thierry. I stand and put Accalia in her crib. They’re both fast asleep. I check on Braydon who is also sleeping. Miss Kat and her niece were kind enough to volunteer to watch the twins while everyone else is at the wedding. “Being a father looks good on you Derek, but if I don’t drag you out of here your bride will be down the aisle before you,” he
DavinaThe day has finally arrived. We pushed the date again to March 25th but it’s finally arrived. I will be Mrs. Brooks by the end of the day. Calista and Keila forced Derek to stay in one of the rooms on the second floor. He wasn’t too happy about that. Everyone in the wedding stayed at the estate last night. We set up an extra crib in the nursery for Braydon.Keila is up early with me. We are having coffee and feeding the little ones. Malayah has been more compliant so we had my uncle seal the windows and outside doors so she can’t leave the house. This way she can at least leave her room. She’s helping me feed Thierry while I feed Accalia. I really wish this was truly her. Keila and I both snap our heads to the door. We can hear Derek arguing with Mark and we both laugh.“Mark at least let me see my kids. I’m not banned from seeing them before the wedding.”“No can do bro, Davina is in there right now.” I can’t help but laugh. “Keila I’m going to go shower. Let Mark know he can
DavinaBoth Derek and I snap our heads towards the door when we hear yelling. Derek rushes to open the door and finds Malayah’s guards about to knock on the door.“What is it? Where is Malayah?”“Alpha I’m sorry. Malayah went to the library to read. She jumped out the window and took off. We have wolves on her trail but she has quite the head start.”“Damn it!” “Derek we need to get to her before he does,” I say. “Davina please stay with the children, I don’t want to leave them unprotected in case this is a diversion. I want you and Maliyah in the nursery. I’ll have guards outside the window, in the room with you and outside the door.” Derek takes out his phone and dials a number.“Gabriel please come back to the estate.” He hangs up and uncle Gabriel appears.“What’s going on?”“I need you to go with Davina and Malayah into the nursery and seal it shut. No one gets in or out until I return. Malayah gave the guards the slip and ran off. I’ll deal with you two later, go find her,” he
