2. Got away by an inch

Silence befell, and the crowded hall turned eerily still. Every existing soul was rendered motionless as they stared in the direction of table number five.

All the gazes burned holes in Aria’s back. To say she was used to all the ignorance and cold treatment everyone gave her. As every eyeball appraised her at this moment, she prayed for the windows to burst open. She wished for a tornado to sweep her out of the room and take her away.

Aria lacked the courage to face or fight them, so she did what she could to avoid their gaze! She shut her eyes tight, cutting out the sight of this nightmare. But her life was a nightmare in itself, and there was nothing that could stop this from happening. This was inevitable.

Her body turned white, and she shut her eyelids tighter. Blood drained from her cheeks as Aria waited for the touch of his lips to fall on her own.

Great! She was going to lose her first kiss to a bully. An undeserving, filthy bully who all but respected her.

“Stay right where you are with your bloody mouth, Neil Weaver!”

A voice boomed over her shoulder, making a trembling course through her. Bewitching cologne that she contemplated as smoky wood hit her nostrils. It fluttered her heart and twisted her guts.

‘Jake!!!’ Aria whispered his name as he stopped beside her.

His muscled arm brushed against her skinny one and sent a current of nervousness slamming into her. She forgot to breathe as she peered at him.

His dark as midnight eyes set ablaze as he regarded the five bullies. Aria lifted a hand to touch her chest as her heart raced fervently through the corridor of her chest, pounding with an unstoppable intensity.

“Jake. Calm down, buddy. We’re just having fun. No big deal.” Neil moved backwards while raising his hands in surrender. “You can ask Aria if you don’t trust me.”

Grasping the front of Neil’s shirt, Jake growled grimly in his face, “No big deal? She’s freaking white from all the panic you injected into her. Do you think that’s not a big deal?”

Shockwaves scattered throughout Aria’s being. Was he speaking in her defense? Jake Ragnar, the future Alpha of the Sapphire Blue Pack, was speaking for her, the omega who couldn’t help herself.

She pierced her nail in the pit of her palm. The biting pain made awareness seep into her consciousness that this was not a delusion.

“Why are you overreacting, buddy? Calm down. I am your friend and you know I—”

“Exactly! Because you are my friend, I know what a jerk you can be in situations like these. You better not bother her again. Do you get that?”

“Okay, fine. Let go of me.”

Jake looked to his side at Aria’s face as he released Neil with a jerk. The corner of his mouth twitched, sending a thousand butterflies dancing in her belly.

“I apologize for their behavior, Aria. You can go back to work.” The world dimmed around the edges as she scrutinized his mouth and the small smile it sported.

“T-thank you.” Aria mumbled, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over her.

He not only saved her from the torment of physical abuse, but he also safeguarded her from the dire consequences of being expelled from her job. She was so glad, but she couldn’t express it with anything more than a mumbled thank you.

“Aria,” She had barely moved when Jake called her.

His voice caught her heart aghast. It started palpitating at an abnormal rate, which did not go unnoticed by Jake. Aria felt him close the gap between them and stop a hair-breadth away from her. Yet he was so close that the warmth of his body infiltrated her spine.

“I want to apologize to you on their behalf! Look what they have done to you. You are trembling!”

It was after he mentioned this that Aria realized she was indeed shivering. It was not because of her classmates who bullied her; rather, it was because of him, Jake Ragnar, the pack's alpha-bearer and son of the alpha.

“Th-at is completely okay. But… they didn’t do anything. It is just that I am too shy to face people.” She lied since she didn’t want to mess with Neil and his friends and avoid the future aftermath.

Jake could only save her once from them, not always. Furthermore, Aria could not take the chance, given that these guys would find a way to bother her because they were that bad.

"You can not even lie properly, and you do not have to.  I have seen and heard everything!” She lowered her gaze to the floor before he noticed the glimmer in her eyes that emerged because of him.

This was her first ever close encounter with Jake Ragnar, and she already lied to him. What must he be thinking of her now? Aria stood there with her back still facing him. She didn’t have any courage to face him. Her stomach was in knots and her heart slowly climbing up to her throat.

This was his effect on her. No wonder she had a crush on him!

Even though they were classmates, Aria didn’t see him until it was the freshmen party. He was sweet to talk with. No, she didn’t talk to him, as she didn’t get any chance to. She had just seen glimpses of him talking with his friends with a warm smile. He was different, unlike other alpha kids who are arrogant and vile and consider others low.

Aria often wondered about his mate. So did others. He celebrated his eighteenth birthday a few months ago, and he still hasn't found his mate.

Jake was least bothered by her. Unlike other wolves, he refused to go look for her. He believed she would come when she wanted to come. Until then, he would enjoy his life.

But he has a girlfriend. A beautiful she-wolf who complimented his title yet contradicted his nature She was a narcissistic bully. Veronica, the daughter of the pack’s leading businessman and Alpha Ragnar’s friend.

Her lungs snarled for oxygen as Aria refused to breathe. She didn’t move either. Afraid that he might bring his gaze to appraise her. She waited for him to set her free from the invisible boundary of powers he drew around her. It was as if her movements depended on his commands, like it typically happens for typical omegas.

But he was indescribably different! Because what he did next shocked her to the very core.

Jake put his hand on her shoulder and made her turn around. His smile on his glowing handsome face came to her view, and she saw him assuring her, “You don’t have to be scared of anyone. Not when I am your alpha to be. I will make sure that these assholes never mistreat you again." He cast a glance toward her bullies over the table, and they apologized to her one by one.

“I am sorry, Aria. I didn’t mean to frighten you.” Dilane said.

“It was a joke. We would never do it to you.”

“We are sorry as well.” They apologized, taking her by surprise.

“Th-that’s ok-okay...” She hesitantly mouthed, not sure if they did it out of regret or Jake’s fear.

To her dismay, the expressions on their faces indicated both.

“Alright then, I assume you will keep your apology in mind and never mess with her.” Jake said before letting her go away.

‘Goddess! Why do I get so nervous around him all the time?’ Aria wondered as she came back to the counter.

She was not pretty enough that the future alpha would help, was she?

Tbc...

His best friends are Dilane, Kai, Neil, Zack, and Oliver.

  • The Silent Omega    129. Face off

    129. Face off"Where is she? What happened to her? Why is her blood on the floor? What did you do?" Zavier growled before tilting his head towards Beta Brent and his wife. Both of them shifted as they kept their eyes affixed on Zavier vigilantly, prepared for an attack. "The smell of your son lingers wherever her blood has been spilled. It's him, isn't it? He targeted my daughter to get back at Jake. He used my daughter against his enemy." Zavier threw Jake to the side and angrily marched inside the house. Brent tried to stop him but he shoved himself inside the door. "Where is Noah, call him down here! I saw the photo too. I know it was his cheap trick to provoke Jake." He looked around the hall with murder in his red eyes. "Zavier," Alpha Killian stood next to him, keeping a hand on his shoulder. Zavier harshly jerked it away and pointed a finger at him, "Don't come into this, Ragnar. Just don't..." "Zavier, listen to me. I can understand your situation but—""Oh no, you don't

  • The Silent Omega    128. Breaking in the Beta's house

    128. Breaking in the Beta's house Although Zavier was unruly, he had a good relationship with Brent. He liked Noah too and took personal interest in training him until that incident where the pack's leaders tried to use Aria against him during Professor Springham's murder case. Noah had been an active agent in that incident. He framed Aria so the pack leaders could use her and frame her for a fake investigation. Though Zavier never said that he would hurt his son for helping the leaders to use his daughter, it didn't mean he wasn't going to. Zavier was known for keeping grudges until he got the right time to seek his revenge. And his revenge was scary. He didn't show mercy. Shock and shiver writhed up Brent's spine. He blinked his eyes to compose himself as he let Jake go. "Your son has everything to do with her, Beta Brent. Do you even know that he's Aria's destined mate... And that he had been bullying her, assuming that she was dating me." Jake snapped, making Brent's eyes go

  • The Silent Omega    127. A hunt for Noah

127"Noah! Noah! Where the hell are you, bastard? Come out here and talk to me." Jake dashed inside Beta Brent's house like a hurricane. His shoulders were stiff, eyes dark with murderous intentions and his nostrils flaring. His waterline was red from intense anger that flooded his veins."Noah Rhodes, come out here! You woman-beater asshóle!" Jake's voice boomed through the huge hall of the beta's house.Servants gathered around him, moving back towards the wall to make themselves invisible. Jake's aura was glowing around him. His eyes darkened to the shade of obsidian as his wolf's anger showed through them. He was fuming angrily and his chest heaved up and down as the images of Aria's house flashed before his eyes. Her blood and hair strands were in her room and outside of it in the corridor. The broken walls, the splintered furniture, the wreckage of her room was sufficient to tell him that Noah manhandled her."Can you hear me, mother fuckér! It's either you come down here... Or I

  • The Silent Omega    126. I want Aria back!

    126. Jake nodded before he ran a hand through his hair, "I learned a valuable lesson, Kai. Don't jump to conclusions. Communicate.” "And don't let assumptions cloud your judgment." Kai added. Jake smiled wryly, "Yeah, that too." "You'll get through this, Jake. You and Aria will work things out." "Yeah, we will. I'll drop to my knees if that's what it'd take to make things right with her." Jake said as he prepared to get up.Kai noticed it and asked him where he was preparing to go."To meet Aria, where else?" Jake shrugged. "I was feeling too ashamed to go to her after I saw the video. But after talking to you, I realized I should be with Aria already."The color of Kai's face changed. He tried to make Jake stay as going to Aria's house was going to send his anger soaring. Everything was still a mess after Noah's leave. Aria was missing too."Man, I can't put off seeing her any longer. I need to be with her as I've already made a huge mistake by staying away. The asshóles at scho

  • The Silent Omega    125. I misunderstood her!

    125. Jake's POV "Jake, you are here and I looked for you everywhere." Kai stopped next to his best friend in the sports ground of their school. The lights surrounding the ground illuminated intensely as Jake remained seated in the centre on the ground. The night sky was starless and the moon was crescent. Heavy grey clouds floated overhead as the winds started growing stronger.Kai, who had been searching for Aria, had noticed Jake's car parked just outside the school's gate. Although his priority was to find Aria, Kai needed to have a serious conversation with Jake too. Hence, he decided to prioritize meeting Jake first before resuming to look for Aria.He sat next to Jake on the ground as he realized that his friend was blankly staring at the goal net. His knees were drawn closer to his chest, his hands wrapped around them, while I deep frown set between his brows.Although the stench of alcohol clung to him like a long lasting perfume, what really puckered his own eyebrows was V

  • The Silent Omega    124. Veronica's dirty strategy!

    124. Veronica's dirty strategy! Jake's POV Disgust slid through me as I pulled away from her. I roughly wiped a hand on my mouth before spitting out my saliva to get rid of the taste of her blood. She seethed as I spit out several times and dashed my hand recklessly over my mouth. "What the fuck, Jake Ragnar? Who do you think you are!" Rage nearly consumed me as I scowled at her in response and snatched her arm to yank her closer, "Who do you think you are, huh? How dare you seduce me?" "Seduce you? Don't act like a jerk, Jake! It was you who pulled me in your lap. I just came to say hello!"I swept a gaze over her body. She was barely dressed. What I felt smooth under my touch wasn't her top— she was actually naked. She had no panties on and that spoke a lot about her intention. She did it deliberately. She knew I'm drunk and not in the right mind to inspect between the right and wrong. This bitch! My wolf hollered, wanting to come out. He was already pissed at me for acting lik
