Thanks to the run-in with Emily, the rest of Violet’s weekend was ruined. No matter how Violet thought about it, she had no idea how to defuse the ambitious werewolf. Emily didn’t seem like the person to believe Violet if she explained that she had no interest in pack politics or the beta. It was all so stupid that if she thought about it longer than three seconds, she became furious. All the real problems in her life and this stupid girl has to throw a ‘mean girls’ themed drama.
Violet joined Mia in the middle of the hallway once she’d finished the other rooms. “Done?” she asked and Violet nodded. There was a strange look on Mia’s face so Violet added, “I got the pleasure of running into Emily, she made a mess for me to pick, and tried to get me to lose my
After breakfast, Mia and Violet helped clean the dishes and prepare everything for lunch. Thankfully, lunch was easier than breakfast. There were only a few people who had stayed in to eat, though Mia told Violet dinner was usually the meal with the most attendance, and that’s the one the alpha tended to attend almost always. Knowing what she was doing, more or less, now Violet wasn’t as nervous as she was that morning.
Once again, the alpha wasn’t at breakfast and Nolan hadn’t seen him all morning. It had to be on purpose. He knew the alpha was going to speak with New Girl yesterday, but of course, Frank hadn’t come to see him afterward. Yanking Nolan’s chain as the alpha loved to do. He liked to claim it was to prepare Nolan to be an alpha. People tried to get under his skin all the time. It was a good try, but Nolan knew the truth. The alpha simply enjoyed messing with him. Honestly, Nolan didn’t usually mind. He was sure if his father was still alive, he’d do the same, and the alpha had tried to fill the void his father left
The next morning, Violet left her room to met with Mia. The conversation with the alpha yesterday was always at the forefront of her mind. To say the least, it had left her unsettled. First, what was Nolan’s deal? Why insult her then go and defend her? Secondly, the alpha wasn’t at all like Violet expected him and she was having a hard time picturing him as the cruel dictator Jeremy had described him. The only explanation Violet could come up with is she was seeing him from the inside, where he thought his hold of power was safe.
As the tray slid out of the oven and Violet managed to place it on the cooling tray while remaining burn-free, an enormous sense of pride filled her. After Violet’s last encounter with Emily, Mrs. Chaplin told her it was probably best to return to the kitchen. Violet didn’t mind, surprisingly. The duties involved in preparing the house’s meals had become familiar and the familiarities brought her a strange sense of comfort. Plus, none of the other duties had such good smells. The only drawback was her wrist.
Violet scrubbed the counters with singular focus or at least she was trying to give it her complete and total attention. It seemed her mind was intent on making her painfully aware of how much her life was a state of complete and total disaster. Her parents were dead, murdered, and Violet was starting to doubt the chance they would ever get justice. Her real friends seemed to have forgotten she ever existed, and the ‘friends’ she had now would kill her as soon as they discovered what she was. Then there was her birthday. It was her birthday today and she got to celebrate it by cooking food for her parents’ murderer. She was caught between wanting to scream at everyone and throw the knives she used to prepare their food at them and curling up in a corner and sobbing as hard as she could. Much as she tried, a few tears had escaped. Thankfully, no one noticed them.
Violet walked down the empty street filled with large homes. Her pace was slow, giving her time to think. The kiss with Nolan kept running through her mind. Nothing would come of it. Nolan must have been caught up in the moment or something and the kiss had been a mistake. Victoria knew that and had no plans of making a big deal about it, but still, the kiss was nice. She didn’t see the harm in enjoying the memory of it. It wasn’t like she had a lot to make her smile much anymore.Though her rational side argued they had more important things to think about, like getting into the alpha’s office. The smile fell from Violet’s face and she sighed. Sticking her hands in her pockets she looked down at her feet as she walked. The plan was to wait until Monday evening while everyone was at dinner. It seemed like the safest option. Though was any option safe?
Violet walked through the Alpha’s mansion with a cup of coffee in her hands. She wasn’t much of a coffee drinker but holding the warm cup helped relaxed her nervousness. Tomorrow was the day. The day she was going to make her move. She replayed the plan over and over in her head. As soon as the servers began serving dinner she would go upstairs to the alpha’s office. She would have a good thirty minutes at best to finish her search. The room wasn’t that big, it really shouldn’t take her that long to search the office.Stopping by the staircase that led up to the second floor, Violet took in a shaky breath. Every time she thought of breaking into the office, Violet started getting this sick feeling. She leaned against the railing and took a minute to concentrate on her breathing. She stared into the caramel-colored liquid, feeling her nausea start to pass. Hearing someone, Viol
Noah didn’t have the answers Violet needed so he left to find the alpha while she took a shower and changed her clothes. It was exactly what she needed and when Noah came back, Violet felt ready to deal with whatever answers the alpha had to tell her. He was waiting for them in his office. Instead of sitting behind the desk, the alpha was sitting in a chair near the window, looking out of it. As soon as the door opened, he got up and walked over to her. “May I hug you?” he asked. The question surprised her, but she nodded. “Yeah.” He swallowed her into a hug. It was a little tight but Violet’s entire body relaxed. Again, she was surprised. She felt safe. The alpha made her feel safe. “I was so worried when we discovered you were gone. I thought…” He paused as if taking a moment to gather himself. “I’d
“Don’t make me do this, Violet,” her dad saidViolet shook her head, not moving away from Nolan. At this point, the vibrating, buzzing sensation flooded her body. It was so strong she wasn’t so sure she could move.“After everything I’ve done? After everything I’ve sacrificed for you?” Her dad demanded before he walked up to her.As soon as he reached for her, the sensation that had been running through Violet exploded. All the anger, loss, and pain she had been feeling ever since her mother was murdered flowed out of her and against her dad. A brief look of surprise washed over his face as she shoved him. “You killed my mother,” she growled at him, not even recognizing her own voice. “You tried to have me killed too!”
It had been a few days and Violet couldn’t shake the feeling she was just another prisoner. She was constantly followed by the big silent werewolf, not allowed to go outside, and she hardly saw her father. When Violet did see him, he tried to act like everything since that night of the attack hadn’t happened, and they were living an absolutely normal life. If she asked any questions he’d get angry and leave. When the big silent type wasn’t paying too much attention, Violet tried to eavesdrop on the conversations, however, she couldn’t pick up much. Though, she did learn that her father and Morgan weren’t seeing eye to eye on something. It had been a few days too long. Her patience had run out and now more than anything she wanted answers. Violet stopped her usual walk around the main room of the warehouse and turned to Big Silent. “I want to see my father. Where is
Still more than a little awe-struck, Violet followed her father into the warehouse with Jeremy or well, Morgan following behind herAs they walked through the warehouse, that reminded Violet a lot like the first one Morgan had taken her to, Violet tried to get her dad to say something, but he didn’t even acknowledge that he’d heard her. Her stomach twisted as she followed him, casting furtive glances at the warehouse in itself. The people there stared at Violet like she’d done something to piss them off. Others hid whatever they were working on as she passed. Something about all of this didn’t feel right. How was her dad alive when she saw the werewolves shoot him. She saw his lifeless body as the others took her away. Finally, her dad took her to what looked to be like an office. The windows were covered with what looked like brown pape
Two weeks passed since the welcoming party and it had been two weeks of very little news. Despite his best attempts, all Nolan had managed to learn is that people thought her dad was a creep, especially when it came to her mom. It seemed many thought he was purposely trying to break up her mother and the alpha while they were there with the pack.Violet remembered what the alpha had said at the party. People didn’t like her father because they didn’t understand him and Violet knew her dad. Honesty and honor were two of his core beliefs. He always instilled in her that no matter what she did, as long as she was honest and honorable there would always be a way forward. A man like that doesn’t break up a relationship. With a sleepy yawn, Violet joined the alpha in his office for breakfast. It’d become a routine for them to meet and discuss
The entirety of the backyard was used for the party. There were balloons and streamers placed elegantly through the yard. Tables were set up with mountains of food and there were places to sit and tables for eating everywhere. Instead of a welcoming party, it looked more like a wedding reception to Violet. All and all, she thought it was overkill in the truest sense. However, Violet put on her best politely interested expression and decided to take advantage of this situation to get what information she could. It sent a thrill through her when she noticed that several of the staff had joined. An older werewolf woman who looked like the definition of a ‘Karen’ stopped Violet. “Oh, hello dear, I’m Cathy Mills, and I just want to tell you how lovely it is to have you here with us. All of us were worried when the alpha refused to take a mate and had no children of his own.”
The next morning, Mrs. Chaplin left word with Violet that he alpha wanted to see her in his office. With her stomach in knots, Violet entered his office. There was a table set up with breakfast. The alpha smiled when he saw her and asked her to take a seat. The tightness in his smile or the tired look in his eyes wasn’t missed by her as she sat.“What’s wrong?” she asked, picking up her fork and started to eat.The alpha chuckled lowly. “Either you're getting more perceptive or I am getting worse in keeping up my mask.”“Perhaps a little of both,” Violet said then gave him a questioning look.He sighed and took a drink of the orange juice in front of him. “This is not easy for me to admit, Violet. I am the alpha
Despite Violet’s insistence that she could dress and make it upon herself, Mia refused to leave her room until Violet was ready for her date with Nolan. They went through all of Violet’s clothes and make-up until Mia picked out the things she thought would be perfect for Violet and her date with Nolan. While Violet may have protested a lot, she appreciated Mia’s help. Their bickering made Violet feel normal. She and her friends use to do the same all the time and it seemed like forever since she felt like she had a friend.“What do you think?” Mia asked when she finished with Violet’s hair.“Wow, I look great,” Viole replied as she looked into the mirror. “You are a woman with many talents.”Mia beamed, looking pleased. “I am, aren’t
Lunch was delicious and after a short rest, she was ready to tackle the hike back to the alpha’s car. As they walked, Violet couldn’t stop thinking about her situation with the alpha, and her father. The alpha made some small talk, and Violet contributed absent-mindedly. Her logical mind told her it wasn’t a betrayal to her father, allowing the alpha a relationship with her. The alpha made no demands to be recognized as her father. And what if she did recognize the alpha as her father? There were many families that had multiple mothers or fathers. There were godfathers, stepfathers, and all that.Violet tried to think of any reasons to not give the alpha a chance, but besides the feeling of betraying her father, she couldn’t find one.“Everything okay,” the alpha asked as they reached the car.
