According to Xander, his younger brother has a martial arts competition after lunch. Of course, I was interested, as I have taken martial arts classes before.

Before heading to the stadium where the competition is going to be held, Xander treated me to lunch from the food stalls displayed around us, including sandwiches, drinks, and desserts.

I can’t really tell if they are that good because I am still feeling a little nervous when around crowded people.

“You’re still drinking matcha?” I wonder out loud when I see him carrying two cups of them before heading towards our table. He hands one to me before taking the seat before me. “Have you drank any other beverage aside from matcha?”

“W-Well.” He suddenly takes on an embarrassed expression. “I-It’s not like I have drank anything other than matcha ever since you introduced it to me.”

“Seriously?” I cock my brow while wondering if it’s my fault that this guy turned into an addict.

“What?” His tone suddenly takes a defensive one. “I

Patrick’s gaze registers fear and panic before he quickly masks them. “Did my brother forget to tell you that I am practicing martial arts? Getting a bruise is common.” Look at this sweet and adorable little child trying to fool me. “I agree. Getting a bruise is common for beginners practicing martial arts, but what I’m wondering is why is the bruise under your wrist? Kendo is a martial art that has four hitting spots—the head, neck, wrist, and stomach.” I counted them off slowly with my fingers, making sure that he understood where I was getting at. “The bruise is under your wrist, which is a spot that’s unlikely to be hit.” Getting hit under the wristtends to make it harder for the player to move his hand because of the swelling. Since Kendo is a sport that heavily uses wrist movements, it is pretty obvious that whoever did this to Patrick doesn’t want him to win. Patrick looks like he is going to be on the verge of tears, which is NOT what I wanted from him when I decided to co

I got lost—no surprise there. Thankfully, I managed to get directions from the female participants. It’s a little weird for me to ask them to point me in the direction of the boys’s locker room, but I gave them the excuse that I am a relative of one of the players. When I got to their locker room, I was just in time to see their coach leave. “Excuse me.” After making sure that my wig is still on my head, I head over to greet the man. “You’re Coach Leyman, right?” “Yes.” The coach pauses to answer me. I can tell by the look on his face that he is a little curious and wary of me. “Do you need something?” “Hi, I’m Barbara Sandoval. I write the news for Waynard High school paper. I heard that the boy named Patrick the younger brother of Xander Andrew Luis. Do you mind if I interview the kid? His performance was really amazing. You must have taught him really well!” I hope he did not see me gritting my teeth when I threw out a fake compliment. Though it is true that I just gave Patrick

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 67 Coaxing Out of the Van

“Hailey, stop acting like a wild animal and get down from the car.” Xander tries to coax me, but I just stay at the very back of the van, hiding. “Hailey, come on.” The manner in which he’s trying to lure me out reminds me of someone trying to befriend a feral cat. The nerve of this guy to tell me what to do afterward brought me to this place. And by this place, I mean Waynard High. THE TRAITOR! I try to leer at him, but from where I am hiding, it’s a little difficult. After all, I am in a crouching position while Xander is standing outside and waiting for me at the door of the van. He stands there looking confused as hell and probably wondering what’s up with my behavior. “Don’t try to tell me what to do after bringing me to this place.” I hiss and hide in the shadows when I am briefly exposed to sunlight. “You sound mad.” “That’s because I am mad.” “Why are you so mad when I just brought you to school, which, as I am to remind you, you’re a student of?”“Let me ask you thi

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 68 Locker of Memories

“Who died and made my locker the tomb?!” “Hey,” Xander says, placing his hands on his hips. “I’m sure that you are aware that it is not the point of me showing you this. You can read the message, right?” Of course, I can read. And just reading the notes pasted on my locker is already letting me realize the reason why he wanted to show me this. ‘Hailey, we miss you.’ ‘Miss Hailey, please come back.’ ‘We need our peacekeeper.’ ‘Thank you for saving me.’ ‘I’ve never been bullied again thanks to you.’ ‘Felisha is cool, but Hailey May Collins will always be cooler!’ These are, no doubt, words of encouragement from the students. I know because there’s no way that Xander and the others have done this. They all have wonderful penmanship, but the ones scribbled on post it notes on my lockers all have horrible writing—not that I am judging them for that. It’s just an honest observation. My heart feels lighter, for some reason, the more I read the messages. I headed over to my locker

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 69 Xander is Acting Strange

Maybe I was in over my head when I kind of made that promise to Xander. And by that, I mean returning to Waynard High. Standing before the gates of Waynard High with my hoodie covering my face is probably the only thing that’s keeping me from running back home and screaming in my pillow. I don’t even remember what drove me to get out of bed in the first place. “Hailey, is that you?” If I did not realize who it was that called my name, I might just bolt right then and there. When I turn around, Sandy is there, her eyes bright with happiness and anticipation. “H-Hey, would you mind keeping it down—” “It’s YOU!” Sandy screams gleefully before her face starts to look furious, for some reason. She starts to grab me by the shoulder and shake me violently, which surprises me that she has this much strength in her upper body. “HAILEY MAY COLLINS, HOW DARE YOU KEEP IGNORING MY CALLS!?” Ah. And there it is. The unwanted attention that I am so hoping to avoid. All of the nearby students l

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 70 Guard Dogs and Frying Pan

I feel like I have a bodyguard—no, a guard dog would be a more suitable description of Xander. I guess I am grateful that he is concerned about me and the fact that I am still a little uncomfortable with people talking to me, but that’s just for the people who I am not close with! He almost didn’t let Romeo talk to me the moment we got to class. “If you hadn’t convinced him to let me talk to you, I might have called him an ingrate.” Romeo mutters while we both watch Xander glare and block the school press from taking any pictures of me or getting an interview. “Sorry about that.” I don’t know why I apologized, but somehow, I just feel like it is appropriate. “By the way, how are you doing?” It’s a very late question considering the amount of time that passed. I feel like a terrible friend because I didn’t even manage to consider what the situation had caused him. “Pretty great!” He smiles, which is baffling considering that the scandal might have affected his career. My bewild

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 71 Gutsy Invitations of Hailey May Collins

I just got back to school and thought I’d missed it, but of course, that was me being delusional. I mean, really, who would miss school when you have to catch up on quizzes and exams?! NOT ME! “Sheen, you’re beginning to doze off.” Sandy looks at him with her hands on her hips, looking at Sheen sprawled on the couch. “He was probably gaming all night with his character dressed in a banana costume.” I can’t help but make a comment as I look up from the study material that Xander has created for me. I can’t help but snicker silently. Sheen catches me laughing and immediately sits up and points an accusing finger at me. “It was YOU, wasn’t it?! You were the person who kept shooting at me in that online shooting game!” Oops. Maybe I smiled too much, which gave it away. For the record, it wasn’t my fault that he was an easy target in the game. Who the hell wears a banana costume to a shooting game anyway!? It’s like they are either flexing that they spent money in that game or they

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 72 Are You Jealous?

“You might want to speed up a little there, bud. The zombies are catching up.” I can’t help but say this while Xander is still carrying me like a sack on his shoulder while running away from the students. “Stop kidding around, Hailey!” Xander scolds me like I have anything to do with the situation—in hindsight, maybe I do, but it is not my fault that I am popular. “At least do something to stop them!” “I told you, you have to help me since I can’t beat up this many crowds.” “Can’t you think of other ways other than using your fists?!”Xander's ability to run, scream, and carry me all at once is impressive. He would have fit in perfectly on a sports team if he were not on the student council. “Do something!” He repeats his words to me earlier. Well, I guess I should try doing something. Either I get sick from being carried and shaken too much or I get bored at this point. “There’s a flying cockroach!” Either these students love me so much or my acting was just plain good because t

My first instinct is to run away with Xander. My second instinct is to run towards Vanessa and tackle her. That girl deserves whatever body pain I am planning on inflicting on her. I guess it was not enough for her to ruin me. Now, she wants to drag Xander along too. She obviously needed some much needed drama to put her on the spot again. To what extent is she willing to ruin people’s lives just so she can stay in the spotlight? I have never been so angry at anyone before, but I will deal with my emotions later. My priority right now is Xander. Looking at Xander, I was surprised to see him standing so calmly in front of me. Well, he wasn’t entirely calm. He was shaking, but it wasn’t from fear or anxiety. He looks like he is about to burst out laughing. What is he so excited about? “Xander?” I grab his hand. “Xander, come on. Let’s get you out of here. I will call my dad to pick us up.” Xander’s gaze softens when he turns to me. “Thanks, Hailey.” He kisses my forehead, which

The big day has arrived, and even though I have complete faith in my mother's design abilities, I can not help but feel nervous. I have seen the design before, but when I look in the mirror, I cannot help but admire the dress. It’s a light lavender dress with a sweetheart neckline and a thin laced strap to keep it in place—my mom knows I was never gifted in the frontal area. The skirt is a flare shape, with the hemline ending perfectly a few centimeters from the floor. Most of the beadwork is at the neckline and waist since the material used for the skirt is chromatic. It shines perfectly on its own. My mother didn’t want me to look too mature so my hair is left in a side loose braid. “Perfect!” My mother enters the dressing room just as I finish clasping dangling earrings in my ears. I shy away from the mirror at how my mother is continuously gushing at me and my outfit. “Darling, you look wonderful! Of course, I expect no less from my daughter, who carries my perfect genes!” “N

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 81 Laying it Out

Preparation for the dance has been going smoothly. Our efforts have come to fruition when everything is finally coming together. I hate every second of the work, but getting to see the final outcome feels somehow rewarding. Speaking of which, while we were still preparing the venue, the others figured out that Xander and I were already dating. I’m pretty sure that was the case when we told them, because their reaction was a robotic surprise, like they hadn’t tried practicing it. “Wow. We totally had no idea.” “Really? We hadn’t noticed.” “Congratulations!” Only Leo had a really genuine reaction from the group, even lightly clapping his hands in celebration. This world needs a lot more Leo—so pure and innocent. The rest of us can just die (I'm kidding!). “See? I told you they’d know.” Xander crosses his arms and pointedly looks toward Sandy. “I bet you already have proofs and created a group chat where only you, Sheen, and Leo are in it to show the photos.” Leo and Sheen exch

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 80 Just A Normal Lunch

Taking a photoshoot with The Pandorgriffs always feels like bliss for me, despite the number of times that we’ve done this before. It seems that I will always be their fan, no matter what. Actually, that’s not the only thing that makes me excited to work with them. It’s also the fact that I get to work with Xander too. It’s only been a day since we started dating, but it seems like I can’t help but feel light and happy whenever we see each other. He keeps meeting my gaze during our turn and giving me secret grins and a wink. If Xander could be an animal, he would definitely be a fox. Sandy, the ever so reigning queen of gossip, managed to catch that Xander and I have been looking at each other all throughout work. This hellhound of a girl literally has been giving us both a look of suspicion and, I swear, I think her nostrils are flaring like she caught the scent of a hot topic. Xander and I haven’t told the others about our relationship yet. We’re not trying to hide it from them

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 79 Is it Hot?

As the school’s cool girl, I have numerous people confessing to me on a daily basis, but having someone that I know confess to me, especially one that I like, is just embarrassing—in a good way. You’d thought that I would jump in glee and throw sparkles and rainbows at everyone’s face out of joy, but nope. Before I could even give my answer, Leo and the others came back. The next day, I was so tired. I could not even sleep just thinking about it. We’re supposed to head to the mall today to buy the materials needed to make the design. Of course, Xander is going to be there. Unexpectedly, I arrived at the meeting place earlier than planned. I’ve got nothing better to do because if I continue to stay at home, I might just keep staring at my reflection and recalling the confession. It was a confession, right? I mean, I am almost certain that it was. Before we parted ways, Xander assured me that he doesn’t need an answer right away and is willing to wait. Actually, I really wanted t

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 78 Loveless

I rarely get into serious situations that I give a damn about. Right now, I badly wish that I was in one of those situations so I could just laugh and ignore it. I guess I have not gotten my luck as Hailey May Collins working yet because the situation in question involves Xander and the others. “You guys are going to disband?” My tongue felt heavy when I said it. I knew what I heard, but I still could not believe it. “Can you tell me why?” “It’s not exactly a secret, but I assure you that it was a mutual agreement on everyone’s part.” Xander looks uncomfortable, making me wish that I hadn’t asked the question in the first place. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer my question if you are feeling uncomfortable.” I hastily added and avoided his gaze. As much as I am dying to know their reasons, I should still respect their privacy. Xander’s chortle comes as a surprise to me. I stare at him, wondering what it is that he finds so amusing. Currently, I feel a little conflicted about

  • The School's Cool Girl   Chapter 77 Mulling Over

The very next day, I was humming as I headed to the student council room after taking my special exams—I’m not going to talk about how well or poorly I did. It doesn’t matter. I feel like I have accumulated enough points to graduate anyway.I met Sandy at the door, and I gave her the brightest mischievous grin that I could muster. Sandy just smiled at me in return before heading inside the council room. I still have the blackmail photo of her and Sheen on their secret date that I am dying to show her. Because my exams are finally out of the way, I have no choice but to participate in my student council duties. I don’t mind doing it these days, and my old self would laugh at me if I admitted it out loud, but hey, I am here to have fun with Sandy. It’s payback for all the teasing that she put me through. “Hey, Sandy.” I smile, heading over to her and plastering on a smile. Sandy gives me a perplexed look. She’s probably wondering why I wasn’t hostile with her today. “Good day to you,

“Do you think that they are on a secret date?” “I—” “I think so too. It’s very suspicious.” “Hailey—” “Do you want to secretly take photos of them for future blackmail purposes? I know I would.” I cheerfully as I continue to snap pictures of Sheen and Sandy buying tickets for a random romance movie. “You’re already taking photos of them. What’s even the point of you asking me about it?” I can feel Xander’s tiredness as a sigh escapes him. I believe that his exhaustion comes from him constantly trying to tell me against stalking them, but all his words simply go from one ear to the other. “Let’s go!” I drag him along after the couple finished buying tickets. “Where to?” “To buy some tickets. We’re watching the movie.” “Why?” “...That’s because the movie looks interesting.” Xander gives me a long stare. “You’re still going to spy on them in the cinema, are you?” “...No…?” The words left my lips in a drag, making it sound suspicious. “I mean, I am really interested in watchin

I wasn’t aware that my mother called Xander and promised to sponsor our attire for the dance. Knowing how I would have reacted, I guess I can understand why my mother kept it a secret in the first place. Still, it would have been better if she had at least given me a hint. Xander and I are sitting not too far from each other. None of us are even speaking. I am sitting casually and bouncing my legs nervously while thinking of ways to strike up a conversation. From how Xander is busy scrolling through his phone, I don’t even know if he would like to talk to me. It’s always been difficult to read Xander’s mood, so I decided to risk it and converse with him. “The weather is nice.” I start. “It’s raining heavily outside, Hailey.” He responded without looking up from his phone. Well, so much for an icebreaker. I should try another approach. “I didn’t know that you were coming.” “I thought your mother told you that I would be coming for the fitting.” This time, Xander did look up. I c
