“I'm not swearing at anyone. I'm upset with Boy who always troubles others. I want to sell the heart to a flea market and buy fresh beef from the proceeds of that sale.” I dodge.

“Boy doesn't just piss you off, Kate. He pissed us off too.” Mom sighed.

“Well... that's the truth.”

Terrence pulled out an iron chair and sat down. “I don't have any more ideas. I'm tired of looking for evidence that I don't know where it is.”

“Oh honey, never mind. Forget about this for a moment. Look, in the afternoon I'm going to make Kate some sweet treats. Can you get her a new cell phone? Since she's been in the hospital, I can't reach her to offer a snack.”

“Gosh, I almost forgot that important thing. I'll go get her a new phone and take you home, Mom. You said you'd be home at three in the afternoon, right?” Terrence looked at the watch on his wrist—making sure of something.
