In the
calm
and
deep
forest
of the mind
a wolf can wait
for all eternity
if need be.
I found Arwen like so. It was like a telepathic call. One for a long time- only reached one way. We met late in my life. Most werewolves my age already met their spirit guide. I remember my first shift like it was yesterday.
When it took me a painful forty-eight hours to shift and finally become a wolf... I had one thought, was it all worth it? The exciting wait to become a beast was more thrilling then actually becoming one. It took me almost nineteen years to figure that out.
The shift wasn't what I imagined on first go.
It took time to get use to it.
I was alone without a pack.
And now?
I run with my pack for the first time.
Except...
we're charging straight into battle.
A wolf can feel many emotions especially while
Eloise, Issabella, Maeve, Jordan, Eli, Mateo, Issac, and Atlas stayed close to us. They were tense as they listened for any surprises. We made our way through a bedroom and into a hallway leading deep into the pack house. As soon as we stepped into the hall it was like a wall came down. We could hear war happening further in. The sounds of growling and screams echoed through the halls. Speaking of the halls... The halls were bright and the wall interior was very modern. So they weren't living like cave men. In fact their interior was a lot more expensive then ours. It put our pack house to shame. The amount of living space here doubled our pack's house. This was obvious to us now. Pack Blacktail Growlers aren't going down without a fight. I underestimated them. I should have known that they lured the vampires into their den. It was obvious from the outside guards. They lured them inside here because there would be an advantage. They knew these halls better and could easily c
Brendon's POV:'BRENDON!' Viv's voice shouted. Everyone seemed to be silent from her voice. I felt pure shock and surprise. How did that man... grow a blade out of his arm? I never heard of anything like it before. Just like how Eder disappeared, the man left my sight. Leaving me in the path of a wolf's attack. I cringed as our wolf forms crushed together. But he wrapped me up in his arms to secure my fall. He was so fast. With transforming mid-air and making sure my impact would be light to the ground. I sustained enough injures that I'm sure would leave me upon death soon. Steele was nearby. I was impressed by this wolf's speed. I sniffed his scent. This is an alpha. He must be the alpha's son. He's too young to be an alpha... He was maybe Cole and Nena's age. If that.As soon as the head of the vampires disappeared both sides broke out in another war. Wolves raced to kill vampires as they tried to escape. It seemed like as soon as that man was gone the wolves
Back to Vivienne's POV:I looked through a glass wall at a hospital style room. Their infirmary hall was similar to the one Romona held charge of at the pack house. Brendon was being treated with an IV drip. Monitors were keeping an eye on his heartbeat.'He wouldn't be there if it wasn't for how selfish I was. Of course I wanted to save this pack… but if I knew it would almost cost his life… I wouldn't not have persuaded him.''You cannot blame yourself,' Arwen told me quietly.'I want you to stay with him until he wakes up,' I told her. 'Let me know as soon as he does.''What will you do?''I am the only one awake. I have to deliver orders to our packmates.'I heard footsteps that broke me from my conversation with Arwen. I looked down the hall to see my father walking up to me in a fast pace. We were now in our human forms. The alpha of Blacktail Growlers was kind enough to provide us with clothes. We would only remai
Niall's POV:"They did good out there," I heard Lamia's sweet voice say as I entered her private room. "The numbers of deaths were high for the wolves..." She chuckled. "And, I didn't even send the whole army." She tossed a report onto the table beside her. I looked towards Andrew who was carefully rubbing her feet down with lotion. I smirked as I picked up a cup of tea and took a sip."They really did," I agreed. We sat in her room in front of the fire place. Andrew redesigned the room to have a coffee table and a set of Victorian chairs facing each other."Oh, how is your brother doing?" Lamia asked me and gave me a concerning look. "I overheard Meynard went a little-""Lamia," I interrupted. "He killed Cal," I growled in irritation. She gasped in surprise."What? I'm so sorry!" She laughed out. Her humor sometimes... I kept a frown on my face to tell her I was upset. She settled down the minute she understood how I was feeling. "I really w
Malakai's POV:"That leg of yours is looking better already," Romona, my step-mom told me as she examined it. "It's a good thing I wrote the book on herbs," she teased me and looked over her shoulder at my sister, Nena. "He's going to be okay," she assured my sister. Nena gave a huge sigh of relief. She's been squeezing a clip board the moment she entered the room."Nena," I chuckled out. "I'm fine," I promised her. "Why don't you go get an espresso? You look tired." I could see the bags forming under her eyes. She's been up for a couple of days no doubt. I wasn't her twin- but I could sense she was loosing sleep. Mom tightened her back up and looked towards Nena. Her hands busy wrapping my leg up. Looks like I will suffer just a little longer in bandages."Nena, go home and get some rest," mom sudden commanded. "Look at how tired you look. By the time you wake up your father and the rest of the pack will be home. You don't want to pass out right as they return,
Continuation of Malakai's POV:We ran like wildcats through the trees. I haven't transformed, yet. I instead panted as I dodged trees. My bare feet barreled into sharp twigs. I wanted to snap and cry. I wanted to cringe and stop running. But damn if I did... I would loose my head! I could hear screams and growling. I remember busting through the pack's entrance. As we reached the front. Reality set in. Lamia's army was huge. They came well prepared with trucks in mind to take some of us back.Where would they take us?My legs felt weak at the thought of getting caught. What if someone from the pack sees me running like a coward? No one here was running. They were fighting for this territory. It might be so that our alpha is away but that didn't stop us from defending territory. The pack mates was going at it for their lives. They wouldn't leave willingly. The vampires simply outnumbered us.I could tell by the size of people.
Back To Vivienne's POV:Malakai's scent filled my nostrils. His delighted lungful of scent was something I forgot how much I enjoyed. Because Malakai was the only special beginning to my life. I once found him hard to sit with in a car ride... and now that's all I wanted. I wanted to go back to that first night we arrived at the pack house. I want to turn back the clock.I was hunting in a dark forest. The darkness alerted me I crossed over... once more. I was now on the other side. My heart ran fast. I didn't remember crossing over. I remember laying my head on Brendon's chest. I remember assuring myself... this was just shut eye."Mal?" I whispered out. My voice did not echo. In fact it was swallowed by a void."Vivienne," I heard a new voice rung in my ears. That wasn't Mal.No.. this was familiar."Fang?" I called out."FANG!" Once again.Silence echoed through the dark forest. There was no moon... no stars... no shadows. I
Continuation of Vivienne's POV:"What did the note say?"Alpha Aaragorn asked casually. We sat at a round table. It was just the two of us. It was private and he asked that even the guards outside were to not listen in. The room we were in was held for meetings. Obviously his father like a business setting for pack meetings. It was stylish... despite the Victorian styles that sat the pack cave back by a few decades."Lamia asked for my pack to surrender.""What did she offer in return?"I laughed at his question. Because, he sounded so innocent. He didn't know her at all. She was giving false hopes in her, 'offer'. Lamia wanted but one thing... to bring misery upon my family. Especially me."You don't have to tell me... I can already guess the false hopes she spilt out on that slip of paper. You should know that despite what happened in your pack's territory you have an open place here... especially in this trying time.""Thank you, A
Brendon's POV: I took the trailsinto the forst to the boarders of Lamia's territory. My only thoughts focused on saving Vivienne. She's my whole world now. There's nothing I want better then to find her alive still and save the day. I want to kiss her over and over and tell her I love her to the moon and back. Because, that's how far I'd go for her. I would go there all nine lives and come back to see her beautiful face. And our future children. And their future children. 'I'm coming, Vivienne... I'm coming. Just wait a little longer.'I knew she couldn't hear me but I decided to talk to myself. To keep from the thoughts of loosing Steele to talk to. I would have kept marching forward but the forest seemed to move in front of me before I could reach the borders. I instantly caught a glimpse of wolves in the distance. I hid quickly under the shelter of a heavy brush. I decided to keep quiet if I was going
Vivienne's POV: "What happened?" The words flung out of my lips as I couldn't think of what else to ask. "What happened to my pack when they got here?" I balled my first. I was angry. There was no sense in her killing them. "I know you didn't kill all of them." She clearly took the survivors away someplace. The woman I once thought that I could never compare to and still agree with... sat down in front of the window in a red velvet chair. She crossed her arms and pushed her black cloack over her knees and smoothed the cloth. Her posture was well defined where she sat. Lamia's stileto signature heels pointed like fangs into the hardwood floors and created a puncture. I held a gaze with her but my eyes couldn't help spot the bloodstair hiding in the crook of her red lipstick smirk. "This reminds me of the first time I saw you," she said as she looked to the floor. "but, you're not waking up from being overdosed. You're here under new circumstances. You can at least say hello. Are we no
Cole's POV: The warehouse. As Andrew once was held captive in and can now describe to me. It was a humid building. With wire cages no bigger then four by four and stacked on top of one another. It was huge inside. And, a storage for what my brother Niall and Lamia had been working on these past few years. It was a savage hell hole to look at. Because the cages were small and hardly any room to move in. This building was used for storage. And, this was an obvious building for werewolf trafficing. Apparently... Places like the Lycanthrope wasn't rare. And, there was many other reasons for wanting your own wolf-trasforming pet. Sometimes people that went into the warehouse... never came back out. And, my pack was forced in there when Lamia raided my pack's territory. As much as my brother's warning for me to leave stuck in my head.... I couldn't shake the feeling I needed to find my twin.Nena was in trouble. And, she needed me bad. It didn't take
Vivienne's POV: "Do not worry... princess." Aaragorn looked from me to his pack mates and nodded in their way. "My pack has orders to follow behind yours. If they do not succeed in stopping your pack..." He reached out and smeared away a tear running down my cheek. "We'll hurry and try to convince them to st-" "We can't stop them! They're too far gone, Aaragorn. Don't you see? They're acting on their own. They're going to do it and I need your pack to just fight amongst mine." He wrinkled up his nose. The nice expression he had now fading. "WE are cowards," I muttered. "I don't think either of us should be leaders." Aaragorn smacked me against my face. The impact leaving a sting on my skin. I whimpered from surprise. My fingers touching my sore cheek. It was already beginning to swell. "I am not a coward." He was begining to growl. "I'm a fucking alpha. My pack is going to save yours in this bloody fucking mess... and when we do. You'll BE my luna. Because of how much you'll be in
Continuing Brendon's POV: A monitor's noise started up as it was forced on. And, the familiar sounds of a heart monitor hit my ears. It was familiar- from when I heard Vivienne's moving. Or, Innath's. I felt a force of air push into my lungs and I opened my eyes. I was stuck under a white sheet. My body was numb. I couldn't move it just yet. What happened to me? Where am I? Where's Vivienne? "VIVIENNE?" I yelled and heard my voice echo through the empty room. I smelled the air and remembered where I was. Why am I still in Blacktail Growler's territory?? And, where is everyone? Why isn't Vivienne next to me? I sat up quickly and yanked the sheet off of me. I ran my hand over my chest as I felt for any wounds. I was healed. I was fine. I am breathing. My feet hit the floor as I moved too fast. I yanked off the monitors and the IV piercing my skin. I spun around the room before walking towards the door. I pushed through and looked down the hall.
Continuing Brendon's POV:We followed Mateo through the woods until he came across the scent markers for Everfur's territory. Once he crossed the borders he met with a few of their wolves guarding nearby. They escorted him to the pack's town hall. This is where Everfur's pack held meetings. Their pack territory- to my knowledge wasn't centered through a pack house but a town hall. The pack house was non-existent to them. Instead, they worked more as a town. And, their alpha like a mayor. Alpha Rivera was a kind woman when I did get the chance to meet her. She's lucky to have my sister as her luna.It seemed like most of Everfur's pack members were already arrived at the pack's town hall. They were already gathering for a meeting. Mateo shifted into his human form in an alley and changed with the ones he was being escorted by. They had extra clothes hidden in a trash bin. There wasn't any trash of course inside the bin."That's again," he said to accompanying wol
Brendon's POV:"In order for your nine lives to be granted I first require you go see Fang. His blessing will be the only reason I will grant you these extra lives.""Why does his opinion matter?""He'll first want to speak to you. You also remind me a lot of him. It's like the past will repeat itself if I grant you these lives. I want to be positive the past will not become the present. Once you speak with Fang and still feel strong about your decision on these nine lives... I will give them to you to do as you please.""I assure you Luna... I will not be repeating past mistakes."...My snout followed Fang's familiar scent. Luna's forest was absence of light the farther I ran from her. It was like the world itself here was nothing... without her. I ran as fast as I could. My emotions becoming heavy as I wondered... what if I don't make it to Vivienne in enough time? What if she dies and I have to live nine lives... without her? All because I'm taking too long to find Fang! I stopp
Continuing Niall's POV:"M-Meynard!" Lamia's voice chocked out. Her body started to fall towards the fire but I caught her in enough time. I gently lowered her to the floor. My eyes glanced into hers as I remembered... even if this woman is a bloodsucking monster... I still loved her. I grasped her hand as I yanked out the knife from her back. What have I done? I threw the knife away from us."Lamia," I whispered gently. It was interrupted as the door came off its hinges. Meynard had kicked it down. He glared in at me as his arm started to morph. His skin reshaped into a strong blade of a scythe. It was horrifying to see once again. My teeth clenched. I'm not like vampires... if he chops my limbs off I will die. I have to be careful. He doesn't have emotions. He only knows to protect Lamia without hesitation."What have you done?" He asked. His eyes held confusion. Since Lamia told him once before he couldn't kill me. He was hesitating to make sure he woul
